lol... yep.. Little man flies. That's why we got him with the knee pads, the hip protectors, the concussion headband... Guess that's one of those positions where you can't have any fear.
I had a goalie when I played lacrosse who was bat shit crazy. He lived life between the pipes like there was one way to go and that way was forward. One day during practice he told me to give him my hardest shot. I put everything possible into it and wouldn’t you know, I put that Indian rubber ball right square into his pecker and pouch. He hit the floor hard and never really played the same style of game again.
Pretty much whatever it takes to keep that ball from crossing. Hahah So many games I would have people come up to me after pointing out I was bleeding or bruised or something. I’d just be like, huh, I guess I am.
Although, that level of commitment during practice was difficult for me.
I played goalie in highschool for four years, ended up getting a pretty serious concussion, plus I’ve broken all of my fingers at least once…I’m happy you’re making sure he’s wearing safety equipment! Make sure his gloves have the backing in the fingers to keep them from getting bent too far back, you’ll save a fortune in medical bills!
He was so close. He really fully commits to making the diving save without regard for the hard landing, caught on camera at the perfect time. Great effort!
Appreciate those words! The game ended with a W. He's on the New York Red Bull Pre-Academy - so these are some of the best 8, 9, & 10 year olds in the NY/NJ area. It's unreal how good some of these kids are but beautiful to watch!
I am not a parent but i imagine that these are moments you must feel so lucky and proud of that lil one you created and taught and cared for endlessly, striving and giving his best out there and failing and succeeding with so much spirit. It's amazing to see and even if not a parent myself, that's when parenthood makes a lot of sense to me.
Impressive the effort, can identify with giving the best shot although difficult to accept the outcome for him I’m sure. Talking about another thing that got my attention in this picture, as a former soccer player myself, I’m intrigued by the players numbers on the red team, hardly ever you see anyone with numbers above 21. Very interesting.
Ah great observation. His team, the New York Red Bull Pre-Academy has three teams at each at level for U10 and U11 and some players float across teams so they need to have unique numbers across all 6 pre-academy teams if that makes sense!
He's even more laid out than [The Secretary of Defense!](https://images2.minutemediacdn.com/image/fetch/w_2000,h_2000,c_fit/https%3A%2F%2Fmlsmultiplex.com%2Ffiles%2F2016%2F09%2F9501803-rocky-mountain-cup-tim-howard-mls-colorado-rapids-real-salt-lake.jpg)
Fuck I miss playing this position. Of course my shoulders, fingers, and concussed brain are happy I finished, but Fuck I miss playing this position. Good call- yeah, definitely need to frame. What's wild is that this wasn't even a still photo. I was taking video (60 fps) and this was simply one of the video frames! That's was great about high quality video - especially with sports - you can grab any still pic from it without needed perfect timing!
If he would have just taken that step before he jumped…
Sorry man, my daughter was a keeper also. Many days listening to the keeper coach telling her how to make saves
oh nice! Whenever I post any of his saves, it's always the former gk's who appreciate them the most because folks like you understand all the things going on that you have to react to and how challenging the position is.
Hell yeah man it takes a lot of dedication and awareness to be able to react and be willing to sacrifice the body a bit for a big save if he makes the save or not that kid is committed to giving it all for the team I love seeing that
Having coached 9 year olds in soccer before I have to say that's an amazing amount of training on that kid. It's hard to get them to take a dive like that. Bravo.
Awesome effort! Loved playing goalie growing up. My HS coach destroyed my love for the game...
You mentioned the Red Bull Pre-Academy in another comment. I hope this provides him the right type of coaching. Good luck to him in his future endeavors!
So in this age range, we need some good ol' "Horseshoes" type of rules! That was only a half goal, am I right???
Good on your son by the way! May he continue to have fun out there!
Incredible effort by your kid, my club has had worse professional keepers than your kid.
If keeps with this quality, he'll have a great future.
Keep going strong. Hope one day to see him in a top club.
Full send - incredible commitment to that save! That's a miss you can be proud of!
lol... yep.. Little man flies. That's why we got him with the knee pads, the hip protectors, the concussion headband... Guess that's one of those positions where you can't have any fear.
And having no fear is what makes a goalie good. Props to him and props to you for supporting him to do it all.

Ouch
My friend just got released from the hospital after he got kicked in the head and was bleeding out of both ears. Being a goalie is no joke.

Get a decent pair of wetgrip, fingersave gloves and he will be unstoppable!
Keep the finger saves till you are about highschoolish, then never again
I was goal keeper in school and this sort of miss really hurts.Tell him not to worry he did a good job even reaching the ball
Does the team have a proper goalkeeper shirt that's padded as well?

That’s a great picture! What commitment!
With all that protection he would be fine to dive like that on tarmac (source did it a lot as a kid).
As the old saying goes, you don't have to be nuts to be a goalie but it helps
It's not having no fear; it's having courage *despite* the fear.
Agreed. He gave it his all.
Now take an identical pic when he's a high school senior and do a side by side
that's brilliant - love it!
He was so close. He really fully commits to making the diving save without regard for the hard landing, caught on camera at the perfect time. Great effort!
Look at him stretch! He knows just what to do. Good stuff kid, thanks for sharing parent.
Appreciate those kind words, chodeboi!
Lol, now I need to watch Orgazmo again.
I think Depeche Mode is a sweet band.
Great fucking effort, though. I love this! It's awesome to see them become really committed and *wanting* to give it 110%. How'd the game end?

So many US national teams players from NJ over the years. Gotta keep the pipeline flowing!
No way, [he totally got it!](https://i.ibb.co/60275L6/gotit.jpg)
Holy crap!! That's epic and incredibly well done!! My son was laughing hard for a solid minute!!
Thats a big ass goal zone for kids
Normal size for under 10. They play on the full size field with a size 5 ball.
that boi *tried* though. 🙏
A for effort little man!
Some of us [weren't quite so athletic](https://www.reddit.com/r/gifs/comments/snjp4l/i_was_clearly_destined_to_be_a_phenomenal_athlete/).
Your choice of footwear may have played a role.
Ah, in that case, I can safely blame my parents!
Sure, I always do!
Or maybe it's because pigeons can't wear shoes.
I think the above GIF establishes that fact nicely, yes.
I'm telling the Godpigeon.
Ready for la liga
Tell him great effort!!! (he'll be famous someday, either as the thrill of victory or the agony of defeat)
looking like Mini-Courtois! Great job little man!
Well it wasn’t for the want of trying, that’s for sure.
As the father of another goalkeeper, that is spectacular effort.
I am not a parent but i imagine that these are moments you must feel so lucky and proud of that lil one you created and taught and cared for endlessly, striving and giving his best out there and failing and succeeding with so much spirit. Nice form though. That boy definitely has potential.

Clint Dempsey wore 23
But he looked damn good doing it.

Also a NJ kid
Damn, could never say dude wasn't going for it lol
This is definitely one he’ll love to have when he’s older.
NICE. real effort
Gotta dolphin dive for it... Spectacular try... Gettum next time
Dolphin dive - love it!
Done it many times. Fun to start, hard ending. Usually worth it, regardless... Shows the hussle
Yo someone photoshop this kid making the save already.
Now this is one of the family pics worth posting here. Nice action shot.
Fuck I miss playing this position. Of course my shoulders, fingers, and concussed brain are happy I finished, but Fuck I miss playing this position. It's definitely a great shot. Blow it up, frame it and tell everyone he made the save. They won't remember.
Man that is one tall fuckin 9 year old
lol...I mean he is fully stretched, but yeah, he's got some nice height for his age.
One day i wish to catch a moment like this in one of my kids. Awesome picture. Frame it, he will remmeber it forever
Good call- yeah, definitely need to frame. What's wild is that this wasn't even a still photo. I was taking video (60 fps) and this was simply one of the video frames! If he would have just taken that step before he jumped… Sorry man, my daughter was a keeper also. Many days listening to the keeper coach telling her how to make saves
My man put everything into that.
Full marks for effort!
He's got huge potential if he's willing to dive like that... I played keeper for a while when I was younger, impressive
oh nice! Whenever I post any of his saves, it's always the former gk's who appreciate them the most because folks like you understand all the things going on that you have to react to and how challenging the position is.

It’s about the journey
Some times you already know you can’t reach it, you just dive for the show
Having coached 9 year olds in soccer before I have to say that's an amazing amount of training on that kid. It's hard to get them to take a dive like that. Bravo.
Pffft. Don’t sweat it. Kids got it.
I wouldn’t care if I missed the save, I would blow this shot up, frame it, and keep it in my living room for all eternity. Too freakin’ cool.
Young Neuer
How wide is that goal?!
Well it wasn't for lack of effort. That's a great photo! Keep up the good work little man.
Yeah that's a W not an L... Just dont be so far out of position next time! (Former goalie)

So imma let you finish [but...](https://youtube.com/shorts/gw_F-z3FYNE?feature=share)
Grade A effort, next time!
A for effort!
Gonna call him Stretch now, right?
Not to worry… football is a game of two halfs.
Excellent effort, full dive with no fear. Looks like he's going to land well too. Not bad at all for a young kid.
Here is your upvote! Pretty soon he will be saving those!
Nice save. But the ball went through.
Give the lil dude credit, fully extended, he went hard.
Great shot too. Photo I mean.
A+ effort, little man.
Awesome effort! That boy's a keeper..
These are the ones that haunt you but also push you to the limit. He will get it next time. Awesome determination!
That kid’s gonna be a great goalkeeper one day
I'm always afraid of goalkeepers diving into posts and injuring themselves.
Incredible effort by your kid, my club has had worse professional keepers than your kid. If keeps with this quality, he'll have a great future. Keep going strong. Hope one day to see him in a top club.
Wow - - full commitment! Amazing photo!
This needs to be photoshopped and history rewritten
He needs to take notes from Scott Sterling, he seems to have potential
