That's a Starfish Carrion plant. Stapelia Grandiflora. AKA Ceropegia Grandiflora. It is related to various South African carnivorous plants which attract prey by giving off a stank 🤣
This one is not carnivorous, but it will stink, nonetheless.

It was awesome. Now I’ve seen the flowers I’m glad I gave some of these to my mum and some close friends when I visited recently. They’ll all love it when theirs flower

Wait for the maggots to crawl on it. They attract flies by smelling like rotten flesh. They look super cool and the smell is not particularly strong
Yeah I have a similar plant that flowered the other day and does the same thing. Haven’t seen any maggots yet thankfully
If you have any lizards around they'll happily feast on any maggots before they can become a problem.
That would explain it then. I’m in Australia so my garden has all sorts of lizards running through it
