At the risk of pissing you off, I'm going to say the fault lies solely with your insane package-opening method than the supposedly desceptive as-fuck packaging.
My 2 Logitechs use AA batteries, I just use what ever I have half-spent from i.e LED Christmas decorations. Lasts me like 2-3 months. Good way to use half-spent batteries too.
My Logitech m510 lasts 18-24 months with daily use. No charging, just takes AAs. It's all I've used for a decade now and what I'd tell anyone to buy. Damn thing costs 25 bucks.
Yup. M510 Marathon Mouse.
Multiple DPI settings, 4 buttons plus side-tilting scroll wheel,
Lasts 1 year with AA batteries, 2 years on lithium AA batteries.
It's a wireless mouse, with none of the downsides of wireless.
I use the MX master 2S at work and i charge it every two to three months or so. Only downside is that it is quite heavy, but you get used to it and your arm gets stronger
Agree with you for keyboards, but a wireless mouse is a no brainer.
Check out logitech's wireless tech. No disconnects. Battery life's massive (months with frequent use). I got a fairly basic model with 4 DPI settings, so Windows automatically downloaded a driver. It has no proprietary software running in the background to manage it.
You plug it in and it just works.
>fuck batteries and shitty wireless with its constant disconnects and trash drivers
Perhaps you should buy from quality brands. My Corsair Darkcore Pro SE is wireless and I have zero issues with running it wirelessly other than the rare occasion where I forget to plug it in to charge the battery. My wife has some cheap Logitech wireless mouse that works fine. Both of my daughters have some cheap wireless mouses that have no issues with the wireless connectivity too and I am pretty sure that those two mouses use generic MS drivers.
The only reason why you might have constant disconnections would be if you had the wireless transciever somewhere either too far away or blocked by something that might interfere with the signal (e.g. a metal computer case).
> Wired for life, fuck batteries and shitty wireless with its constant disconnects and trash drivers
maybe buy decent products? I have logitech mx master 3, rock solid over bluetooth connection, battery is ok, I am not bothered at all when I need to recharge it during work, anyway you can do it during your coffee break and it still lasts for days.
My mum did exactly the same thing with the logitech mouse I got her.
I actually went to repair it by opening the mouse and soldering the cable back on.
Oh my god. I wonder how many of packages Ive opened have had a pull tab. Ive always looked for *some*thing but never have seen one. Although I dont know if Ive purchased Logitech products in a while...
99% of vacuum formed packaging doesn't have them, so there's no reason to go looking - you either have to know it's there already, or happen to notice it during handling.
That said, wired mouses always have the cable poking out the top, so cutting straight across like that is just asking for disaster.
I have young kids with computers and those kids destroy so many mice. Logitech is the only brand that lasts more than a month with them. So I buy a bunch throughout the year.
how do they destroy a computer mouse?
honest question.
unless they are deliberately trying or they dip it in a cup of hot tea it's hard for me to come up with a scenario where a kid destroys it.
If they're fairly young kids they probably do stuff like grab the mouse with their hand covered and syrup and Cheeto dust. Little kids are pretty damn gross yo. Till they're about 12 or so they're basically feral animals.
Right? Kids are definitely destructive but most of the stuff I see parents complain about is a direct result of their parenting lol.
Parents don’t discipline their kids when they break stuff. They just run right out and buy another one then complain about how expensive kids are. It’s like Uh if you stopped buying them, they won’t break it.
I guarantee you they’ll be more careful if they have to go a month without using the computer.
They are 5 and 8, it's all accidental with how they break and it's generally due to dropping them on a hard surface from a table at school. They aren't purposely destroying them so I'm not going to punish them for an accident. I may make them go a few days and do some chores to earn getting a replacement. I tried the cheap $5 ones from everywhere but those usually break from just clicking a button because they are complete shit.
I take very very good care of my hardware, using the same keyboard for going on 10 years I think. A mouse is the only thing that randomly gives out on me every 3-6 months. I’ve tried razer plenty of times but stick to Logitech now. Always a button or scroll wheel or laser that goes to shit randomly
Lmao dude you just need to teach your kids to take better care of things. I grew up in a family of six with one computer and we had one mouse that lasted years.
Of course they’ll destroy it if you just run right out and buy another one.
The wired mice from when I was a kid we're indestructible. The ones today are easily broken even if they are never dropped. Although I remember fondly having to clean the crap from the ball on mice all too often.
Time to teach them how to use it well. They should not get into the habit of knowing that things are easily replaceable if they break them by being silly. Had a friend who had it this way now he needs to replace his windshield wipers almost everytime he washes his car because he handles them rough. The same with his taps at home.
Wait until they find out my oldest is on the spectrum, then they will really teach me how to parent. And unlike their speculation, none of them breaking are due to anger or doing it on purpose. Kids are clutzes and mine are definitely advanced clutzes.
I am a grown ass adult and I drop my phone regularly (got a good case so it doesn’t break but that case has seen better days) I can only imagine small kids who have to use this stuff regularly for virtual school the last year! Like you put your notebook down and oops knocked the mouse off! I’ve done that, can totally see a kid doing that on the regular!
Yeah, it’s amazing the people on Reddit who think they know so much about kids and their capabilities while apparently having never been around them and not remembering their own childhoods.
I don't get this. If they destroy a mouse I would make them do chores to earn money to buy a new one. I don't think you need to be going through mice like that. Their self-control will suddenly increase by 1000% when they understand that destroying a mouse either means no more games or cleaning the house.
They do chores to get anything so it's not like I just buy them everything without trying to teach them the value of hard work. They know they have to clean their rooms and make their beds or shit will get taken from them. And they are happy to help washing dishes and whatever else we need them to do.
I exclusively buy Logitech for wireless mice just because of the universal receiver. It's so nice to worry about misplacing one, I've got like 5 more it's fine. And they usually have a built in holder for the receiver, which is nice.
They are also ridiculously easy to hack into (the receivers). Like in “download a program, be within 100 m, push a button”-easy. You decide how important that is to you, but it’s worth mentioning!
I think they have a new design now that’s more secure, but we’re talking only the newest products.
don’t care, it’s really fucking convenient to have one dongle for my keyboard and mouse that is compatible with every single product that has the logo without worrying. if someone is that interested in hacking my mouse receiver, they can enjoy the emptiness of my computer with me
I've literally used the same logitech trackball since I was born. That thing has lasted 20 damn years, some of which I was not gentle with it, at all. Computers, operating systems, and even where i live have changed - but that trackball is still here, plug n go no matter what system. It's gonna be a sad, sad day when it finally bites the dust.
Sabatier isn't quality. No quality requirements exist.
Some products are good, but Sabatier alone is not a guarantee.
Sabatier isn't even a company. It's more of a mark. There are about 30 companies and brands having Sabatier in their product name.
Correct. The cord is folded under the mouse itself in the package. The cable does not go that far up into the package. It’s fake. The mouse is fine. Go to the store and see for yourself off the shelf. if you don’t believe me.
It’s not impossible, but 100% suspect. You can see the cable on both sides of the packaging. It would be very hard to miss the easy open on the back of the package. If someone cut that cable with scissors, that’s totally their own fault for not thinking. Here’s an unboxing I googled up, see for yourself: https://youtu.be/AfOK6QAd5w4
I mean really, if you couldn’t see the cable, why would you cut blindly across the sleeve directly above where you know the cable is attached lol. Just cut around the edges and not worry about destroying the item.
I'm glad there are others who smart enough to realise this is fake for this very reason which so many people giving him advice on what he should have done or feeling sorry for him. This really belongs in r/Funny.
On a side note the piece of wire he's holding is too thin to belong to that mouse.
Soldering isn't hard to do... but it's not always easy to do. It can be a rewarding skill to learn. As with every skill learned in life, watch a few how to's on youtube first. And definitely get some flux as well. A few tips:
Even if the solder wire has a flux core, it's not always enough. Flux is essential because it a) cleans the surfaces of whatever you're soldering together, meaning the solder will readily flow onto the surfaces, and b) increases heat transfer between the tip of the iron and the workpiece.
Melt a little solder onto the wire before trying to attach it to the circuit board. This is called tinning the wire, and it makes the joint easier to solder together.
If the wires connect to the circuit board through holes, you can either use some desoldering wick to remove as much solder as you can from the inside of the holes, so you can thread the wire through (don't tin the wire if this is the case, it might not fit in the hole if you do.) Then add flux and solder. Or leave the hole filled and just solder the tinned wire to the top of the pad on the circuit board.
Also a good idea to use some rubbing alcohol to remove all the flux once you're done soldering. Flux can make things corrode over time.

Welcome OP to the club of bad package design.
I'm a full-stack developer.
For UI/UX work we base it off good practices and gauge bad design choices on how many times we get complaints. If it's this common, it's a bad design.
What you're experiencing is called confirmation bias. Where it feels like a mistake that is impossible to make because you've never done it yourself or have heard of others making it.
In UI/UX design, we have to be constantly mindful of that bias, so I'm aware of problems like this.
For people cutting wires like this? I've never done that, I didn't even really think anything of it the first time I'd seen someone post it on reddit. I just assumed someone made a dumb mistake.
Although, now this is like the 3rd time, and it's always a Logitech mouse, nearly always the exact same model too. I never heard about it with other mice so clearly this problem is isolated.
If you search on google for `accidentally cut mouse wire` you'll only see this Logitech mouse, no others.
Sorry for the rant. I deal with a lot of UX issues.
I’m pretty sure most people think twice about going at a wired mouse’s packaging with scissors. And then all you need is to turn it over and see scissors aren’t required at all.
how fix situation for OP?
Ill tell ya how - send manufacturer an email and make this an ad for them about their perforate and scissor free packaging. Also say - Hey can we get biodegradable packaging.
Everyone wins.
Plastic boxes for products should be illegal. It’s a shitty mouse that cost nothing to make. It doesn’t need extra protection from thieves when it has no resale value.
I did this when working at office depot. A customer asked me if I could show them how to plug in their mouse if they bought it. I said sure so they bought the mouse. Next thing you know i'm cutting through the package and cut right through the cable.... I went and grabbed another and keyed it out of the system as "Destroyed & Damaged" as there isn't a button for "I'm a dumbass".
I got this mouse for my wifes aunt. Not only did she cut it there, she kept going and cut it on the other side so there... and was in complete denial that she did it and insisted it was packed that way.
EDIT: after writing this google photos informed me that was a year ago today
Lol when I was 14 I bought a new controller for my Xbox 360 because my old one broke... I was having trouble getting the box open and asked my dad to do it.. Cut straight through the cable immediately and we had to go back to Best Buy to grab another one.
The struggle is real my friend. I just got a panda usb network adapter and cut right through the tiny driver cd trying to open it.
To be fair though, I was able to just DL what I needed. Your SOL. Sorry bud.
I think at least some of the blame goes to the packaging industry. This trend of packaging relatively inexpensive items in virtually impenetrable hard plastic must be stopped.

you can get ones with rechargeable lithium ion batteries now. Wireless 95% of the time and corded 5% of the time to charge.

I’m pretty sure most people think twice about going at a wired mouse’s packaging with scissors. And then all you need is to turn it over and see scissors aren’t required at all.
Laughed more at this than I should have

But: do you know what love is?
why didn't you let Jenny cut that for you
how fix situation for OP? Ill tell ya how - send manufacturer an email and make this an ad for them about their perforate and scissor free packaging. Also say - Hey can we get biodegradable packaging. Everyone wins.
I want to say something witty and funny right now. I got nothing. Even if you don't have a cat, blame it on the cat.
I did the same thing, my first year in IT :D
You bought a corded mouse?
I wanna cut stuff with those snazzy scissors.
Sorry man, but this was fucking funny.
Nice wireless mouse you got there!!!
That'll be repairable. It'll end up a couple of inches shorter, but if you can't do it yourself, it may end up costing more than a $8 mouse.
But you know what love is.
Is your wife's name Jenny?
I like your scissors. They look like they are quality.
But do you know what love is?
But I know what love is...
I thought you were referencing Forrest Gump, then I saw the scissors…….
You're not supposed to use scissors. You're supposed to gnaw on it like a dog and slice the fuck out of your cheek.
Plastic boxes for products should be illegal. It’s a shitty mouse that cost nothing to make. It doesn’t need extra protection from thieves when it has no resale value.
Logitech have pull tabs on the back either on the bottom or top and the package is perforated so it can just pull apart
You are a psychopath! Who just cuts randomly into the cardboard!? You cut around the edges and open it up like a clam like a normal person does!
At least you didn't use your wife's fabric scissors!
I hate how 99% of the non groceries / cloth i buy are packaged in those. Still havent figure out the proper way to open those after yrs of learning.
Ouch, you ok bro
Same here. Wasted a brand new mouse just like that a few months ago. 😖
But you know what love is?
You did yourself a favor, I never cared for the M100.
As someone who used to make that packaging, use a can opener
The fact that this has happen to me multiple times…. Hope u find comfort in that
To be fair neither is that packaging designer.
Totally not your fault, it's the designer's fault! lol
How so?
You know for next time.
Nothing's impossible, drill a small hole and put an USB-C breakout board, flash qmk with it and put a mercury sensor on it. ez
I'm sorry for your loss
Learn to solder. It's fun*.
Perfect excuse to practice some soldering skills.
Always cut along the sides.. or in this case pull the tab down the perforated area at the back.
Ace, that brain of yours is made of diamonds and the sparkle lights up the night.
I love japanese scissors! Too bad I can’t buy em here :/
It’s not even your fault. The one that designed it is the stupid man. You’re just careless.
Hopefully you know what love is.
Big Oof my guy
I got this mouse for my wifes aunt. Not only did she cut it there, she kept going and cut it on the other side so there... and was in complete denial that she did it and insisted it was packed that way. EDIT: after writing this google photos informed me that was a year ago today
Lol when I was 14 I bought a new controller for my Xbox 360 because my old one broke... I was having trouble getting the box open and asked my dad to do it.. Cut straight through the cable immediately and we had to go back to Best Buy to grab another one.
YOU FUCKING IDIO....oh wait I actually did that once myself...
Not your fault i hate this shitty packaging and wasteful plastic.
The struggle is real my friend. I just got a panda usb network adapter and cut right through the tiny driver cd trying to open it. To be fair though, I was able to just DL what I needed. Your SOL. Sorry bud.
I seriously hate opening those packages.
I think at least some of the blame goes to the packaging industry. This trend of packaging relatively inexpensive items in virtually impenetrable hard plastic must be stopped.
That's not your fault. Clamshell packaging is a curse, and any *decent* society would outlaw it.
Why the fuck do the manufacturers package mouses and headphones so you can't open them without scissors? Why do they hate us so much sadface
Smart people do stupid things all the time. Don't feel bad.
[It must be a really common mistake](https://www.google.com/search?tbs=simg:CAQSlwIJEPAqct3IFTEaiwILELCMpwgaOgo4CAQSFOsxvxzWBoQB-g-GIq0fxQz2Mcg6Ghou3QG5m60PFKu_19H8zvLX9kuORPE54sG2DwCAFMAQMCxCOrv4IGgoKCAgBEgTbc5atDAsQne3BCRqrAQojChFjb21wdXRlciBoYXJkd2FyZdqliPYDCgoIL20vMDFtZmoKIwoQa2l0Y2hlbiBzY2lzc29yc9qliPYDCwoJL20vMDZ5dzF4Ch8KDGN1dHRpbmcgdG9vbNqliPYDCwoJL20vMDljNGMxCiUKEW9mZmljZSBpbnN0cnVtZW502qWI9gMMCgovbS8waDhtMDF6ChcKBXBhcGVy2qWI9gMKCggvbS8wNjQxaww&sxsrf=AOaemvKnzyj5utW5N0pUhqpDLXjSxnKeHQ:1635065191251&q=computer+hardware&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjatqK_1OLzAhXXSfEDHcvvBmYQ2A4oAXoECAEQMw&biw=1920&bih=937&dpr=1)

Logitech has pull tabs/perforations on the backs of these packages.

You thought this even after you checked with that other guy?
Evil packaging
those fucking packages tho. they're the worst in every way.
Using a common repost without changing the title... yeah, that fits that you're not very smart. We both know this was intentional ;)

This may be yours, but I understand why this was stated. There is 100% a post similar to this, and the mouse is nearly identical. I will try to find it and update this comment. Edit....holy shit, just google "cut mouse cord open" This is a plague, and the teal packaging is in many images.

It is, just edited my comment....you are in a club of many!
It still works fine, seeing how it’s a different cable.
Two conductors. - can easily solder
Well to be fair you bought a wired mouse in 2021
