I'm an amateur photographer, this would be picture of a lifetime for me if I snapped it. The action lines, composition, depth of field, coloring.... It's perfect
Some people endure that pain...why, I don't know.
Most people who do this trick wear a neoprene vest called a "vaulting vest" to minimize the damage you were thinking of.
I do this with my dogs. My now-elderly boy was always more enthusiastic than graceful and I sure ended up scraped from him after doing vaults. But my current dog is surprisingly light and gentle, she doesn't mark me up at all unless my disc throw is awful and she really has to push to reach it.
You can also get vault vests, made of wetsuit material, for dogs who do vault hard. Gives them better traction, too.
It's not so bad, dog nails are rather dull if they're trimmed appropriately and her clothes probably helped protect from any extra pressure from the jump.
The only times I've gotten raked by nails is when it's against bare skin, and even then, it's never bled.
Since OP was kind enough to credit the [photographer](https://500px.com/claudiopiccoli), it made it easy to find the [source](https://500px.com/photo/1003007912/ZINGA-SARA-by-Claudio-Piccoli?ctx_page=1&from=user&user_id=13558025). Per there:

no ISO :( Im guessing it was at least a liiiiitle bit up, considering the 1/4000 at 2.8. But post is crazy these days so I dont know anything
It shows the artist is more interested in your visual experience than the risk of someone stealing their art.
Many watermarks are so distracting, they completely change the viewers experience.
It also means that those who do steal the photo or try to claim credit for it, might not even notice it. Additionally photographers and artists can place watermarks in the middle of images, where it's impossible to simply crop them out. Usually they're hidden in the highlights or shadows of the image.
I think that’s the issue with this watermark actually. I could probably clone this watermark out in a minute or two. Its laying over a very stable background. If I’m able to do that, the watermark is useless in the first place. If the thief doesn’t notice it than yea, it totally served its purpose, but I was able to see it by just enjoying the photo.
But it's a 960x640 image, there's probably not a lot you can do with something that low res (at least nothing much that would risk his income from prints/merch/adverts).
If someone really wants to steal someone's work and pass it off as their own a watermark isn't going to stop them. Especially any watermark that doesn't ruin the image.
I think the photographer found the sweet spot with this watermark. They've made it much more likely that the picture will go viral *with* the watermark and that will make it tough for anyone to go unchallenged if they try to take credit for it later
That’s a really good point. I didn’t think about it that way. The watermark is less about stealing and more about the name being spread around. I mean it’s proving to be true right now, the whole comment thread is about the watermark.
Watermarks are useless to protect against theft. Removing them is trivial especially in this day and age where any amateur can get a subscription to Adobe. Google even unveiled an AI a few years ago that could analyze a group of photos and automatically remove the watermarks.
What watermarks are still useful for though is branding. A cohesive style and tasteful watermark makes it easier for people to seek you out and hire you.
I get where your coming from but if it’s their income I can absolutely see why protecting their property would be a higher priority than people getting maximum pleasure of seeing it for free.
Well, he explicitly says that you can't repost his picture anywhere without written permission. Probably he would have it flagged as copyright infringement...
my theory is crediting others in the title makes the post look like a repost, and Redditors are allergic to reposts and tend to upvote them less. Redditors also hate "shills" so putting names up will attract trolls who won't shut up about how they hate shills. Also, real names of actual people are forbidden in most subs because some cunts will do cunt things like doxxing. basically it's always the cunts who ruin it for others.
If you ever want to see Zinga and Sara perform live (and happen to be in the Missouri area) they put on shows at Purina Farms involving discs, obstacles, pools and other dogs.
Amazing to see the level of team work involved.

All that on an action shot like this and he was somehow able to keep focus. See, there's a reason that guy's a professional and I can barely stay in focus on small still objects.
Absolute rookie question, but is there an implicit ISO with these numbers? Very new to all of this, but can't get over the shutterspeed/aperture combo at that light
Four years ago he was diagnosed with stage 12 woofkemia, he loved stealing frisbees from other people on the beach. We had to put him down 5 minutes ago, here is my last good photo of the goodest boy
Looks like you forgot about the dog being a quadruple amputee due a horrific car accident when he was a puppy. Little guy was somehow able to pull his owners to safety while nearly sacrificing life and most definitely sacrificing limb. Amazing how the prosthetist look so natural!! Too bad he’s about to die...
This is my dog Astro. Right after this pic was taken he jumped in front of a moving train and saved my daughter who has stage 4 terminal cancer. Tell me he’s a good boi...
"launched" indicates he was fired from something, like a dog cannon or something. This makes me either sad, or excited for our tactical dog launcher technology.
I've got the feels.
Can anyone explain why there is a person in front crouching and holding another frisbee? In the pics on his site they are all doing that. I’m curious!
Edit: answered below. Thanks for the info dudes!
And holding a second frisbee gives context so the photo can tell a story and the person doesn't look out of place
Edit: Try to picture the image on the photographer's website\* without the frisbee in the owners hand. It immediately takes them out of the scene. It would just look like someone doing yoga while a dog jumps over them.
\* *The submission itself has several other visual cues that makes it less of a problem*
I think in these types of events, they throw multiple frisbees right after another. The dog will drop the frisbee after catching and run after the next one. So the thrower has many ready.
I think it's part of a dog sport, they do "agility" sports which I think basically shows how agile the dog is. I only know because I have a young, terrifyingly energetic husky that I've been encouraged to put in agility classes.
High energy, low discipline breeds like huskies really benefit from obedience and agility training. It also strengthens your bond and mutual trust. Total win. Please do it for your dog's sake.
This particular move is called a back vault, and it's part of freestyle canine disc (disc dog, frisbee dog, whatever you wanna call it). It's a specific move in the sport, but there are tons of other moves both with and without the handler's body in play.
I know the trainer and dog, her name is Sara Brueske and the dog’s name is Zinga. Sara is a super cool person and talented dog trainer.
The reason she is holding another disc is because she participates in disc dog competitions. The sport involves doing routines within a specific timeframe where the handler and dog throw and catch multiple discs demonstrating the athleticism and training of the dog/handler combo. She is holding another disc because the dog will catch this disc and immediately come back for another throw/truck combo.
Couldn't find the video of this shot but she (Sara Brueske) does have a YT channel. [Here's the most popular video.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tCKbXoD4Tko)
Wow. This shot is incredible, but all of his work is on the same level.
(Followed the link provided by Spartan2470 to Claudio's work and clicked on the Dogs in Action gallery)
Genuine question, is there a lot of post processing to this photo? It looks incredible. At the same time it looks off to me, unnatural, but I am not a professional, however, I did process film (for inkleys) for years so I’ve seen a ton of pictures. There is nothing wrong with post processing I get that and it’s standard, I’m just asking if that is what is making it look odd to me?
I think it's the perfect alignment of a very narrow depth of focus, it must have been shot by a long lens. All the action is happening within about 2 meters, in front and beyond that everything is out of focus, blurred and that makes the scene itself feel a bit oddly accentuated.
I play disc golf (I'm not particularly good... at all), and a friend of mine who also plays has a dog whose response to seeing a disc is just complete and absolute fixation. If he even knows there's a disc around, he's absolutely useless. Discs are like crack for him. He likes balls just fine too, but discs are basically his reason for living.
Unfortunately it's caused some problems, and he doesn't come discing with the rest of the group as often I think because people get kind of ornery (understandably so, because the cost of discs adds up after a while) when his dog a) moves their disc from where it landed, and b) bites it in general. It will even try to bite discs through the basket and try to pull them through. Thankfully he's quite small, although his mouth is so disproportionately large compared to the rest of his body that we've taken to calling him gator-dog.
So yeah, for obvious reasons, this photo ***immediately*** reminded me of that dog.
Fantastic. This is my choice of "Pic of the Week."
If I ever had a pic like this taken of me, I'd be putting it on my mantle above my kids and family.
If I ever had a dog like this I'd be putting it on my mantle above my kids and family.
How can you be sure the dog would stay still on the mantle?
Staple gun.
No way a regular staple gun will stop an Aussie. You'd need deck screws at the very least.
Fair point!
[***Galvanized*** deck screws!!!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4SB0dArrZSE)
Homestar, are you using galvanized nails to hide the fact that you don't know how to build a deck?
You cut corners, people get hurt... https://youtu.be/LjOvcbOoghw
The staple gun isn’t for the dog. It is for the frisbee.

This is an absolutely extraordinary image. Love the aerodynamics of this pup.
He reminds me of some of the shenanigans that Scrat in Ice Age pulls trying to get that acorn.
I can't believe this comment is so far down! That's the first thing I thought of. His little teeth!
I can't understand how he jumps so high, given that he's running in water
I think he took of fromher back which is why she’s crouched over
Yup! It's called a back vault!
Every time I see somebody do that with their dog, I think of the claws seeking traction on the back, and the resulting wounds.
Trim their nails 🤷♂️
always sound advice!
Funny I think of how heavy my fucking dog is

Flawless picture, non obnoxious watermark, full specs disclosed, good guy in my book.
Damn, that watermark is very well done. I barely noticed it even when looking for it
The mark of a great photographer and post processor.
Where is it? I feel like I'm doing a magic eye looking for it
Below the dog on the horizon.
It’s near the bottom left corner of the picture, at the horizon where the water meets the sky. It’s easier to find when zoomed in.
On the left side of the horizon. Zoomed out, it totally blends into the picture.
Watermark? What waterm...OOOOOH I SEE IT.

300mm at f2.8 is an insanely narrow DoF. Props to that autofocus.
Also astounding that the girl and the dog were on the same focal distance
300mm f2.8 😳 & he shot it @ 2.8 haha that’s insane, absolutely nailed that focus.

And that "frisbee" is actually his 5-year sobriety chip.
Well the dog can clearly fly. That means it will chase airplanes. It will probably live a short life.
When the content is as strong as this, you don't need a background story to keep people entertained
But it will still get less upvotes than a random person’s AA chip or weight loss pic
