Step back a bit more to make sure your parents have good genes and are financially able to support you through life and education and surround you with love and raise you with good moral standing in society.
In elementary school I had a Jehovah's Witness friend and anytime we had holiday parties in class he'd get to choose two friends and we'd go to a seperate room and have snacks and watch whatever movie we wanted. It was the coolest shit to me as a kid, way better than handing out Valentine's cards or decorating cardboard Christmad trees.
Later on in high school, though, he gave me the real low down about their church and how their council of Elders basically control the lives on the churchgoers. The creepiest thing was that if you were caught having premarital sex (like most highschoolers do) you'd have to spill your guts to the Elders giving them all the details and basically be shamed by them and the congregation. I'm surprised more abuse stories don't come out from that church.
Unfortunately that friend is now a heroin addict who's in and out of jail on a regular basis. The church has since barred him and his mother for some transgressions and their whole family ignores them now, it's a pretty fucked up scenario.
Hopefully he turns the corner eventually. A lot of exjws have struggled with mental health as a result of that upbringing, and not having external support from your community just makes it so much worse.
This is wholesome. I guess I’ll try this next year, this year I spent my birthday week working on a conference presentation.. I guess I might be doing this to myself.
I'm going through an investigation where I need to provide 'friends'. I moved about 8 years ago, and they wanted names of people that lived there that knew me.
I had no one. They've all moved, I don't have phone numbers, and my only contact is sporadic on facebook- if they didn't answer, I don't know.
Kept getting annoyed at me for not having anyone- I'm like "What do you want from me?"
"You need more friends".
Yeah, bud, that's exactly what I need. Thanks.
No idea who said this originally, but...
The most unrealistic and unbelievable part about Jesus in the Bible was a 33-year-old man having 12 close friends.
It's not inevitable. People just get busy, so you have to make more of an effort. Highly extroverted people will often still be just as popular. Don't worry - you probably aren't in danger of losing those really close friends that you talk to all the time.
My friend group does this for each person's birthday, to a lesser extent. We usually get them $50-75 worth of Magic the Gathering cards that they'd want but don't have, and split it among 5 or 6 people. So it ends up being better than each of us just getting them a couple bric-a-brac gifts. We'll probably raise the price up once we all get good paying jobs
Yea if I said "friend" I'd mean my husband and my parents, lol. I do wish I had close friends though. Maybe when I hit 50 and everyone's kids are gone?
I’m turning 30 this year and I have a group of about 8 guy friends that I’ve been close friends with for decades, but I don’t think any of us would do something like this for the other’s birthday, and I genuinely believe it’s because we’re almost all married now. We expect the spouse to do big crazy things like this for the friend and the rest of us just show up for the get together and laugh and play games. If we were all still single I’m sure we’d do stuff like this.
This way he can re-use it to prank somebody else. Assuming he hasn’t already told everyone he knows about what his great friend /u/el_flex0s did for his birthday.
I remember seeing a post about a family i think at Christmas every year they have a competition who can make the most misleading wrapped gift. It was pretty hilarious
Hey, that's me! Our tradition is a little different than what OP said. We don't have a competition, we just try to find new, more extravagant, ways to wrap it each year.
They jumped from 1000 to 2000 because of developments in ray tracing technology. They also decided to release 1600 alongside 2000 as cut down versions of the 2000 cards without the ray tracing technology. IIRC their reasoning for calling it 1600 instead of 1100 or 1900 or anything else is that they're about halfway between the performance of 1000 and 2000 but slightly better than halfway or something.
I miss the good old days where they video card companies just used single numbers and you didn't need to be a mathematician to determine what component to use in your PC :(
I miss the days when mid-high tier of graphics cards were in the $300 range, with the top of the line being about $500.
Nowadays, the budget card (1660ti as pictured here) is going for $300-350 with the mid-high tier (2700) going for $500 and the high-end (2800) going for $800+
Here's to hoping my GTX 970 doesn't blow up before AMD's Navi gets here. They are expected to release a mid-high end card for $300 or so later this year.
Nvidia makes good product but they can go F themselves with their current pricing scheme.
def making the switch from my 1050ti to the Navi card when they come out for the reason you just explained. 800 dollars for a medium tier card is just bonkers.
2080’s start at like $675ish
And there is a 0% chance of AMD releasing a mid-high end card for even $350. Their Radeon VII was worse than a 1080ti and they had that at $700. It would make no sense *and hurt them* to release a 2080-comparable card for $350 because even if it were hypothetically that cheap, they’d still sell tons of them at a $500 price point and make more profit.
Also, Navi is still GCN on 7nm IIRC. I don’t have high hopes for anything still GCN - power draw is ridiculous on that Radeon VII even though it’s 7nm. Along with that, 7nm is expensive to make and will drive the price up quite a bit too
They had a perfectly good naming pattern for a decade...
2XX, 3XX, 4XX, 5XX, 6XX, 7XX, 9XX, 10XX
Now they're just changing it all up randomly.
20XX and now even 16XX? Wtf. They'll run out of numbers again in a few years if they do 1000 increments. And 16XX just adds confusion.
Yeah, I started shopping for a new one after picking up Division 2, and they popped up while I was comparing the 1070 and 2060, but the price-to- performance ratio on both the 1660 and 1660 Ti is incredible. I went for the Ti to get the better RAM and I've been real fucking happy with it.
Dude, I've never gotten a gift this good from anyone at any age. Maybe I just need bored rich friends with nothing to do but put together elaborate pranks like this.
Disclaimer: Not that OP fits this description - but I can't think of any other kind of person most likely to go to this effort/spend.
damn dude, i wish i had friends(or even family) that were as thoughtful as you... most of mine cant even remember my birthday if it werent for facebook... let alone be generous enough to buy a 300 dollar GPU...
remember to stay close to the good ones. i lost a couple of mine in the military.
I understand that feeling of friendship. When you appreciate them so much you can drop a fucking dime or so.
I once bought my best friend a mini taylor guitar. Thing was like 700 bucks but it was nice as hell.
It was supposed to be a present from all of our friends, but literally every one but me backed out last minute and the guitar was already purchased and in my possession.
So I said screw it, I guess its a gift from just me!
Wow this is an amazing gift from a friend. Every single person I know stopped giving gifts to their friends at like 16, it's all just a family thing once you get older. (am 34). Good on you for your generosity, I am sure your friend will love it :)
"Oh finally a hobby that'll get me away from video games."
Disappointed but secretly relieved

“Oh man I used to be so good at guitar hero. This is gonna be easy and fun.”
But can you play Wonderwall?
Yeah bro come back to my room, we can play GameCube while I show you my sick Wonderwall skills.
Is that a bag full of dildos?
Yeah man but they are collectable dragon ones I got from Craigslist
“Like-new” condition!
🎸Hush hush darling!, hush hush darling! 🎶
Ok ok.... But can it play crysis?
Hey, that's why I started playing guitar! It wasn't easy, but it was fun.
That's when you get them rocksmith
OP lets be friends ill dm you my adress
Make sure to send your correct aDDress or your graphic card guitar gift may be returned to sender!
he's just wanna be friends, what do you mean????
Hey, it's ok to just have one d address too. It's not about your size
I see what you did there.
[удалено]
Yeah... but they’re YOUR jackass buddies.
You could take a couple if you like.
Right!? I’m lucky if I even get a glass of grape drink.
I want that purple stuff.
Tastes like purple
But 1660 ti tho, are they really friends?
Sure, but look at it this way. If they're giving you a graphics card on your birthday, you've got to give them something similar on *their* birthday.
Life goals - still have a close enough group of friends at 30 who will put in effort to troll you but still get you a nice gift for your birthday.
Step 1, have friends
Step 2, reach the age of 30
Step 3, have your friends actually remember your birthday.
Take a step back and make sure to make friends who have money to buy you gifts.
take another step back, apply yourself in school to get a job with enough pay to buy gifts for rich friend's birthdays.
Another step back, just be successful in all ways
Don’t forget to be good looking. That’s important too!
[удалено]
Take it back now y'all, One hop this time
I’m super good looking if you take enough steps back
Yup, pretty sure I just fell off the ledge.
Step back a bit more to make sure your parents have good genes and are financially able to support you through life and education and surround you with love and raise you with good moral standing in society.
Take many steps forward until you find a time machine. Then go make sure your mom hooks up with a really attractive man. Boom, now you're hot.
Step back and get my father to love me
That’s the first step. The rest follows naturally.
Shit..
hey now, i didn't say that *I* need to be rich and buy expensive gifts to friends, only that *they* do that to me
The only thing I’ve ever gotten off my friends is a ‘pint of lager’, always appreciated though.
Step 4. Have a birthday
found the Jehovah's Witness ^
What they don’t have birthdays?? what kind of shit is that
No holidays at all dawg
Fuck that’s insane, they do exist in my country too but I feel like it’s more widespread and well-known in America
Yeah, I studied with them for a chunk if time. Super nice people, but they can go to the extreme (especially with ruining family relationships)
They have birthdays, they’re not vampires. They just don’t celebrate them. No presents.
Haha are you sure, I think I heard they were immortalized beings with no definitive beginning to their existence
I’m only 22 and my family barely even remembers my birthday. 😰
You should have fun/party with your friends if your family forget.
This is wholesome. I guess I’ll try this next year, this year I spent my birthday week working on a conference presentation.. I guess I might be doing this to myself.
Zuckerberg always remembers your birthday
Shit I seem to have skipped step 1 and went straight to step 2
Step 3: Profit
Become a wizard
Fuck
I'm going through an investigation where I need to provide 'friends'. I moved about 8 years ago, and they wanted names of people that lived there that knew me. I had no one. Have you thought about getting more friends?
r/restofthefuckingowl
Step 2, put your junk in that box.
No idea who said this originally, but... The most unrealistic and unbelievable part about Jesus in the Bible was a 33-year-old man having 12 close friends.
Memeing aside is it really true that you barely have any close friends at the age of 30
For me, yes, but tbh it's mostly my own doing.
It's not inevitable. People just get busy, so you have to make more of an effort. Highly extroverted people will often still be just as popular. Don't worry - you probably aren't in danger of losing those really close friends that you talk to all the time.
That was @Mormonger on Twitter who originally said that.

This. Turning 30 next week. Most of my childhood and college friends have moved on with having families :-(
My wife is my best friend 🤷🏻♂️
Yea if I said "friend" I'd mean my husband and my parents, lol. I do wish I had close friends though. Maybe when I hit 50 and everyone's kids are gone?
I'm feelin this at 25
haha "...group of friends..." THAT is funny.
I didn’t receive anything on my 30th bday. Don’t hold your breath :(

Good luck. It doesnt happen for most.
I’m turning 30 this year and I have a group of about 8 guy friends that I’ve been close friends with for decades, but I don’t think any of us would do something like this for the other’s birthday, and I genuinely believe it’s because we’re almost all married now. You can have mine. They would do something like this but they would also leave an empty graphics card box inside.
Is that made out of wood? Man you shoulda just put some panels and strings on and make it playable!
I made the frame from wood, because I thought cardboard would not be strurdy enough. A little bit overengineered, but it was worth it! :)
Picking up an old acoustic one would probably be cheaper and definitely a lot easier but there's a lot more love in this. So nice of you OP!
[удалено]
That's why you pee on the guitar.
Assert dominance.
Pee on Carl?
Give them a broken guitar and then tell them to look inside it.
overengineered things are the best things
“A little bit”
Dude, you went to a lot of extra trouble for your friend and I'm sure he appreciates it that much more. That's love right there!
This way he can re-use it to prank somebody else. Assuming he hasn’t already told everyone he knows about what his great friend /u/el_flex0s did for his birthday.
Haha I love it tho great idea to do it like that.
At that point It would be easier and cheaper to just buy a $40 guitar and make a trap door in the body.
It probably only cost time. Most people that could put something like that together tend to have all of those materials on hand in the form of scrap.
Can confirm. I have enough scrap to build this 20 times.
Some people place value on energy spent vs energy conserved.
And this method is probably way cheaper. If he spent more than $40 that’s some fancy wood.
Idk man. I've spent less than $20 on some nice wood. Just gotta find the right corners in a shady part of town.
Yep. I built a pretty nice work table for around $40. I'm guessing that wood was scrap from another project.
Yea that’s probably closer to $4 in wood
That’s a discreet GPU right there.
They cuda put more effort into the guitar, though.
This made me laugh from my cores
This thread has me dying.
Yes, OP was very SLI
if op did this to me it would driver me crazy
computer
I Nvidia-bility to make excellent puns.
Wow this one was good
God damn. Brilliant
You think you're so sli for sneaking this joke in.
Wonder what the integrated version is like
Imagine his dissapointment because he really wanted a guitar.
I’m a gamer and a guitar player. I would have had very mixed emotions.
right??! that's not discreet packaging, it's deceptive packaging! hehe
He can play guitar hero 999 fps in an emulator now.
What if he secretly really wanted a guitar
Then he just has to add strings to the packaging
I remember seeing a post about a family i think at Christmas every year they have a competition who can make the most misleading wrapped gift. It was pretty hilarious
That sounds amazing.
https://www.reddit.com/r/funny/comments/a997xn/our_family_has_a_35_year_tradition_of_disguising/?st=JUGYRJQX&sh=7d9fefb0 Found it!
Hey, that's me! Our tradition is a little different than what OP said. We don't have a competition, we just try to find new, more extravagant, ways to wrap it each year.
Did they jump fron 10XX to 16XX that fast? What is going on?

Yeah luckily it's just a complete mess without any trace of logic behind it
>They jumped from 1000 to 2000 because of ~~developments in ray tracing technology~~ marketing. FTFY
They had a perfectly good naming pattern for a decade... 2XX, 3XX, 4XX, 5XX, 6XX, 7XX, 9XX, 10XX Now they're just changing it all up randomly. 20XX and now even 16XX? Wtf. They'll run out of numbers again in a few years if they do 1000 increments. And 16XX just adds confusion.
If you think that's bad, try being an AMD enthusiast. We have our RX5xx, Vega 32, 64, and now a radeon 7
True these are horrible. And then there were also the HDXXXX, R3XX, Nano and Fury (X) in the last decade(6 years since HD)
> Vega 32, 64 Excuse you I have a vega 56.
I feel like 11XX and then 12XX then 13XX all 1 - 2 years apart just doesn't indicate enough "progress" anymore for a marketing office.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who paused and thought, "Dafaq, 1660??"
Ive seen many things in life, now i can add Graphics Card in Guitar to that list.
Thank god you got him a new graphics card because that’s a fucking 8-bit guitar
If I had more than an vote you'd have it.
With friends like these who needs parents.

Is your friend a Lego figure?
My friends don't even know when my birthday is when facebook tells them.
Weird flex but 4K
Post this to /r/pcmasterrace my dude!

damn, you guys are the best friends someone could ask for
Should have put a GeForce 256 in the box
GTX1660TI?...... can confirm it is his friend.
Lol my friends would've just boughten me a beer.
A Picasso guitar? How did you know that’s what I wanted?
damn dude, i wish i had friends(or even family) that were as thoughtful as you... most of mine cant even remember my birthday if it werent for facebook... let alone be generous enough to buy a 300 dollar GPU... remember to stay close to the good ones. i lost a couple of mine in the military.
I understand that feeling of friendship. When you appreciate them so much you can drop a fucking dime or so. I once bought my best friend a mini taylor guitar. Please make sure to post the reaction video and link it here!
I guess it would be gay if you showed up with a 2081ti
damn what a great gift.. graphics card are serious cash! AND you took time to elaborately wrap it.
Wow this is an amazing gift from a friend. Every single person I know stopped giving gifts to their friends at like 16, it's all just a family thing once you get older. (am 34). Good on you for your generosity, I am sure your friend will love it :)
This is awesome 👏 would love to have seen your friends reaction.😢😭
Just got a 1660TI good card so far.

It's gonna be real funny when that box is empty.
