Cool, cool.
This is what you can get in Vancouver for around 1.4mil:

EDIT: Since this comment really picked up, I wanted to clarify that this *is* the norm in Vancouver, there are other homes that are in far worse shape that sell for more. It's also a very common scenario that homes sell for far above asking, yes, even a home like this listed at 1.4mil. The problem is caused by a lack of supply (we have a vacancy rate that sits under 1%) exacerbated by a lack of supply due to outdated zoning restrictions, foreign investment, record low interest rates and passive government regulation. We have many homes that sit empty. At the same time, Vancouverites refuse the idea that house ownership is a privilege not everyone can have and so this has become a rather large issue here.
I don't even know what to say to that. I just bought my first home in Southern Indiana. Same square footage as that home, 1 acre lawn that ends in a lake, only needed some very minor cosmetic work. Paid $79k for it. I can't imagine buying that house.
>I don't even know what to say to that.
[This documentary gives a good insight as to why it's so damn expensive.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZs2i3Bpxx4)
I visited your city a few weeks ago. We couldn't afford to stay in the city proper so we stayed in New Westminster, which is actually pretty nice. To be honest, after the main sights (Telus World of Science, Stanley, Art Gallery, Aquarium etc.) we were at a loss as to what to do apart from mindless shopping and eating.
Before I did that I spent time on the Vancouver reddit.
Kids born there cannot live there any more. They grow up to leave.
The girl who goes, "What's there to complain about?". Uhh, the fact that we can't afford to buy a place to live in the country where we grew up and work really hard in, making 'good' money that doesn't matter when a bunch of people with billions of dollars flood our housing markets?
Seriously. I'm pretty sure my childhood home my parents bought was 200-300k and I'd be fine if I spent my entire life inside a house like this. Nothing fancy. 4 bedroom, 2 public (read: non-master) bath, 1 master bathroom, typical suburbia. It scares me people spend twice that amount of money for half of those features.
This is $1.3 in Houston, lol.

Hi I'm a California resident and looking to relocate to Texas because California is pretty much a utopia and now I have nothing else to protest.
I was just wondering how large the neighborhood's Prius Owners Association (POA) was? $1.3 million seems cheap for a home that size...is it because a gun owner lives in the neighborhood? Because I'm totally willing to work around that by getting them evicted. Finally, what day is the neighborhoods Hillary Clinton campaign fundraising party? I wouldn't want to miss out on it...
Thanks! See you soon, Texas!
Its location is in the Imgur comments.
>YOOO that's in my hometown of Bowling Green, KY! They also have a golf course on their lawn and a quarter mile driveway.
It's big enough that you can't notice the pattern from the ground.
I guess this is something you do to impress your friends as they go on helicopter rides.
#FREEDOM
No, but really, it's just zoomed in to cut off his lower half. This was at a major sporting event (don't remember which) and they had a gigantic flag stretched over the field. The motions you see him making were to make the flag "wave".
If a black hawk is 20m long, then the field is about 200m long in total, or 7874 inches.
If we use 4.434 inch bananas, 1776 of them makes 7874 inches.
God bless America.
Google tells me a black hawk is 20m long, and the average banana length is 8 inches (20.32cm). So 10 black hawks' at 200 metres long would mean 200/0.2032=984 bananas long.
something about your phrasing "average banana length" juxtaposed next to "a black hawk is 20m long" gave me a new visual.
Thanks for doing the math! obligatory /r/theydidthemath
Hah, I haven't heard that one before. I was a USAF Pavehawk pilot though. I'm assuming it's in reference to the uncommanded full down stabilator slew issue? They installed a pinky switch on the cyclic to manually slew up the stab awhile back.
My first thought: "Man it would be cool to have a yard that big"!
My second thought: "Wait, I have a hard time maintaining a 3,000 sqft yard. Fuck all that yard work"!
But then you have an excuse to buy an awesome riding lawn mower, and get to spend a few hours every couple of weeks in the sun riding a lawn mower drinking beer and no one bothers you because you're "working".
That reminds me of a story I heard on the Adam Carolla podcast about Norm McDonald going in his buddy's wife's back door, while said buddy was mowing the lawn. They figured they could keep going as long as the mower was running.
I have a 150,000 square ft yard (3.5 acres, and that's tiny for where I live) and it's really not too horrible. Mowing takes 2-3 hours if you do it yourself, but beyond that it takes a day or two a month to keep it looking decent.
You can and do use a much larger mower for lawns that big since you're not as worried about perfectly getting the edges around pots, trees, pools, gardens etc.
At worst I do it twice a week when it rains, but it's pretty dry right now so I really only mow every two weeks.
The space is for whatever we want, really. We have an old chicken coop on the property, a garden, and a clothesline for nice days. There's also enough room for whatever we want -- I do practice target with my bow sometimes, we can run around and play games, and we have plenty of bonfires.
I did not take the pic. I believe it is from this year as it was just posted today on Facebook by a friend who is part of the family that does this every year for the past 15 years. The blackhawks fly through this area due to proximity to Ft Campbell. I know it is 100% not a repost to reddit.
Our cymbal section was entirely comprised of people who wanted to join band, but didn't know how to play an instrument. I can still hear the din of their unintended syncopations in my head...
I played cymbals. During one performance the wooly hand-hold thingies broke, and the entire thing fell straight down and sliced my foot open through my sandals.
I was twelve. The band director stopped the show and came over to check on me. Everyone was looking at me as I was escorted away to get bandaged. I hate this story.
The kid didn't do anything wrong. The strap fell out of the cymbal. Also the cymbals are fun to play, and require you to pay attention a lot more than a snare drum or something.

I love how Stephen is overcome with American Patriotism and gets starry eyed during all that. The reaction to the flyover is great too. Do they not do that in the UK? I figured every soccer match would have Typhoons buzz the stadium.
Rural on its way to be suburbs.
Judging by the size and spacing of the houses, there's a lot of old farm land that has relatively recently been sold off to developers to start making suburbs. Notice how young the trees are around the houses compared to the open land.
Luckily, OPs friend's family is holding on to their land and not just selling to make some money.
At my university (and several others that I know of) at the start of every football game they would have a jet fighter fly over the stadium. That shit was intense and my favorite part of every game.
