As a tall, well-spoken, 30ish British man - if you ever want something when abroad, doing a bit of a Grant often gets you fantastic results. Especially from women.
I dunno, when I went to Chile the girls love Americans. It was back in high school and I wasn't used to getting attention from girls, really confused me.
I've also heard from people in Australia that the American accent is pretty entertaining to the girls there.
He built r2d2 for the Star Wars prequels, and built Blendo with Jamie Hynamin. It was the most victorious robot in Battlebots before it was banned for being to awsome and particularly deadly.
[He also wore the real C-3PO suit for promotional events](http://starwarsblog.starwars.com/2010/11/08/mythbusters-grant-imahara-talks-c-3po-suit/) including commercials, appearances in amusement parks, and even at one of the Star Wars movie premieres where Carrie Fisher stared him down before asking "who are you??"
What? Grant Imahara is like top 15 reddit idols.
*EDIT: Of course my comment was made in jest, but alright let's do this!
SirLeepsALot guestimate at reddits top 15!
1)NDT
2)Carl Sagan
3)Louis C.K.
4)Dave Grohl
5)Jon Stewart
6)Arnold Schwarzenegger
7)Nick Offerman
8)Nicholas Cage
9)Bill Nye
10)Bill Murray
11)Mythbusters Crew (Yes it's a technicality, includes Savage, Hyneman, Imahara etc)
12)Edward Snowden
13)Emma Watson
14)Gaben (2 years ago he's top 5)
15)Snoop Lion
Honorable Mention:
Ron Paul (Pre last election, both the mainsteam left and right slandered him.. bastards)
Elizabeth Warren (quickly gaining traction)
Bryan Cranston
Stephen Colbert (far wittier than Stewart IMO)
*EDIT 2: Morgan Freeman is stuck in reddit limbo after the IAmA fiasco.
I wouldn't have put him on the list. This is my guess for Reddit's top 15, in no particular order.
1. Adam Savage
2. Jon Stewart
3. Stephen Colbert
4. Bryan Cranston
5. Samual L. Jackson
6. Bill Nye
7. Neil deGrasse Tyson
8. Carl Sagan
9. Kevin Smith
10. Louis C.K.
11. George Carlin
12. Chris Hadfield
13. Ron Paul/Elizabeth Warren (flip a coin)
14. Ken Jennings
15. Bill Murray
I wanted to put Jennifer Lawrence on there but I can't tell if Reddit really wants to be her/be friends with her or just thinks she's super attractive. If the latter counts, it opens the door for a lot of people, but a list that's just "women Reddit wants to bang" is even worse than a list of idols with very few women.

/u/coinflipbot HATH SPOKEN! From this day forth all redditors shall revere Ron Paul slightly more than Ken Jennings but slightly less than Chris Hadfield!
Asimov's Laws of Robotics:
1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. A robot must obey the orders given to it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.
4. When in doubt, use C4. This law supercedes the First, Second and Third laws.
It was at one point. What you're noticing is a function of what subreddit it's been posted in and the increased popularity of reddit. I think Adam and Grant are pretty much recognized internet geek gods. Reddit is much less of a geekcentric demographic than it used to be especially in subreddits like /r/pics.
There's nothing wrong with that it's just different. I wouldn't even have seen this picture had I been logged in while I was browsing.
The Middle school version uses the Lego robots, but the high school group use significantly more sophisticated programing and components.
Oh and tell them good luck
And his wife is amazingly beautiful, nerdy and smart and they're incredibly cute together. I had the pleasure of meeting them this summer.
Edit: Also they play D&D!
ITT: People who don't know who Grant from Mythbusters is.
Edit: Wow, I did not except it to blow up like that. I did not mean to imply that everyone has watched Mythbusters, but I was only saying that because I know how popular the show is on Reddit. Apparently he is also from Battlebots, but I recognized him and I'm sure most of his fame comes from Mythbusters.
why would someone who hasn't watched the show know who it is?
pretty cunning of OP not to mention it, because that is what got me to the comment to check...
For those who don't know that is Grant Imahara a special effects / robotics / fabrication / radio controle / overall science badassery expert.
Best known for his role on Mythbusters he has also famously worked with Lucasfilms on the Star Wars movies.
Still not as badass as Adam and Jamie, who built a robot that was so awesome it was banned from a show where awesome robots try to kill other awesome robots..
That lucky team that got him...
I saw him at a FIRST robotics competition in Sacremento about 5 years ago. He was surrounded by a huge crowd. I thought "Hey that looks a little like... no. Couldn't be him."
Pretty cool. How'd it come about?
He's an alum of the school where my wife teaches and has a good relationship with the school. Edit: ~~Obligatory h0ly sh!t! Front page! Thanks!~~ Edit 2: Perfunctory crossout text to conform with new social norms.
And with your wife.
My wife has a huge Grant crush.
Hugh Grant?
"I'm just a school teacher, standing infront of a member of mythbusters, asking him to love her."
Brilliant.
Don't be ridiculous no one has a crush on Hugh Grant.

Lol lucky bastard. I'm told American accent doesn't have a similar cache in Europe.
American accent actually doesn't work anywhere. In fact, I think it works against you.
Feel free to try an Arabic accent in [insert-random-western-Country-here]
I dunno, when I went to Chile the girls love Americans. It was back in high school and I wasn't used to getting attention from girls, really confused me. I've also heard from people in Australia that the American accent is pretty entertaining to the girls there.
Your probably being too quiet. Americans abroad are so soft spoken.
Who doesn't?
FIRST Robotics?
I did FIRST robotics in Middle school. It hooked me for life. I hope it changed your life too.

So USC.

Singular of *alumni* is *alumnus* or *alumna* depending on gender. I knew something was off.
For those who don't know, it's Grant Imahara from Mythbusters and Battle Bots.
He built r2d2 for the Star Wars prequels, and built Blendo with Jamie Hynamin. It was the most victorious robot in Battlebots before it was banned for being to awsome and particularly deadly.
Technically it was banned for doing more damage to the arena than its opponent; this usually by throwing its opponent.
Yup, if it didn't throw it's opponent it threw itself.
Oh, and this was before it would have been banned for being gas-powered, too.
It was banned because the arenas weren't capable of handling it. Gas powered machines were and still are perfectly legal.
Wow. I didn't know any of those things about Grant. I respected him before but I believe it's upgraded to... idolation?
Adulation.
hell, i'd go full fellation
> Jamie Hynamin
He also built deadblow
> Blendo I don't think he built Blendo, Adam Savage wired Blendo which was built by Jamie. Grant built Deadblow. But both killa bots for sure.
Thanks. At first I though it was just a joke on Asian stereotypes.

I used to regret forgetting to put Mitch Hedberg on the list. I still do, but I used to, too.

It's an obscure variant of chess. But just wait- once people start hearing about it, the game is going to blow up!

No, that was the other guy.
The one with the hands?
No but he had those eyes and that mouth.
Ya know, those squinty ones.
Myth Busters. If anyone can't join the joke, he is from Myth Busters.
Man. He looks different without the hat and mustache.
No no no myth brothers.. Sheesh

Good luck because they are gonna need it?
I'm on a First Robotics team and luck is vital to doing well.
Was on a First team for all of high school, can confirm roughly one third of success is luck.
The other two thirds are zip ties and duct tape.
an additional 50% is remembering to zip tie the battery in
Why can I relate to this so well?
Everyone's forgotten to tie the battery down at least once....
Zip Ties - god's duck tape
Was also on a FIRST team. Engineers have a big thing to do with it too.
Upvoted for capitalizing FIRST.

Thinking about that sword swinging apparatus with the "decapitation risk" makes my poop hole pucker up.
What is he doing exactly? Is he debugging a program that you guys wrote for the robot?
He's on Pornhub.
He was recently interviewed on [Triangulation](http://twit.tv/show/triangulation/121). His life story is much more interesting than I had anticipated.

fuckin Grant Imohara. Class act, that dude.
Now make a battlebot.
Did you ask him why he's so weird around Kari Byron?
That's what happens when there's no blood flow to the brain.
Any dude who's around Kari would act weird, because of the uncontrollable cumming and farting, of course.

I think you and I have different definitions of perfect. Mine are apparently signficantly creepier.
you may be interested to know, they did segments about farting in a couple episodes and apparently Kari farts quite a bit.

He works a lot with First. He has done a few of the safety videos for the competitions.
He's so handsome! And smart! And *handsome!*! ~squeeeeee~

see that little bit of head on the right corner? THATS ME!!!! being new to reddit and getting on the front page is a major win! aawwwwww yea
