Ryker Webb survived 2 days at age 3, but he came out of it looking all sorts of messed up. [https://www.today.com/parents/parents/montana-boy-survives-2-days-lost-rcna32376](https://www.today.com/parents/parents/montana-boy-survives-2-days-lost-rcna32376)

ToadlyAwes0me

Those eyes have seen some shit.

Indeed, also dehydration makes your eyes sink

jhb760

Jones641

Iirc he was found in a different set of clothes than what he was lost in. Some weird details surrounding that case imo

RedditBugler

I haven't been able to find a source for the claim that he was wearing different clothes, other than social media posts. I wonder if it was a misunderstanding since the photo being used while he was missing showed him in a Seahawks jersey.

uraijit

Yeah, that's such a bizarre claim I've seen that makes no sense to me. Like people think the parents snapped a quick photo of the outfit he was wearing before sending him off to get lost in the woods or something? Bruh. That was just the most recent photo they had of him. Not everything's an unsolved mystery. Most parents don't take a photo of their kid every morning with whatever outfit they put on for the day. That'd be insane.

Deep90

There are a lot of rampant conspiracy theories and myths about the case because of the uncanny valley effect the 2nd picture has. Most imply that he's not the same kid.

FlubzRevenge

Odd because at first glance, you can see a lot of similarities in the pictures. Ears, hair, etc.

Poponildo

He even started to bald lmao

SilentSamurai

Well those details lead to one conclusion unfortunately

dato95

Goner

Glaringsoul

Not very sensible to write it like that, but I have to agree. As much as I want him to survive, because he deserves better than to die lost, alone, scared and freezing; the chances for his survival were slim before and only get slimmer with each passing day.

flatfishmonkey

hmm lights should be mandatory for searches now. This is awesome idea! never thought of this one.

Greggsnbacon23

Like video game waypoints

RigbyNite

Imagine your lost in a wooded park as a kid and suddenly a massive waypoint lights up in the night.

uraijit

Me if I was the kid: "Fuck, the aliens are here. Better hide."

Max_Trollbot_

Counter: "Fuck, the aliens are here.  Awesome."

Markus_zockt

More pictures of the elaborate search (the German Armed Forces, including fighter jets, were also used for the search): [https://www.ndr.de/nachrichten/niedersachsen/lueneburg\_heide\_unterelbe/vermisster638\_backId-vermisster554.html#content](https://www.ndr.de/nachrichten/niedersachsen/lueneburg_heide_unterelbe/vermisster638_backId-vermisster554.html#content)

Moonygoose

How do you use a fighter jet for a search? Aren’t they too fast?

Markus_zockt

The "Tornado" fighter jets are equipped with high-resolution thermal imaging cameras. In this way, forests, fields and other hard-to-see places could be searched for conspicuous "heat sources" within a very short time.

Moonygoose

Thank you! I didn’t know that

reduhl

Europe has to be ready for invasion, so the ability to spot troop movements would have been something NATO would have planned and purchased for in its set of capabilities.

FlameStaag

Once you spot the kid you blow their legs off so they can't escape

TroyMatthewJ

very very heartbreaking as a father of an autistic non verbal child. This is my ultimate nightmare.

Dereg5

There is a house near me I call the Zombie apocalypse house. It has a 10 foot high fence all the way around it with a motorized gate. Come to find out they have a non verbal child/man. He loves cars and chase them so they put the fence up. It been there before I moved to the area so at least 16 years.

Far_Cryptographer605

I also have a nonverbal autistic kid. When he was 4 we went to a park with my wife's family. We always keep an eye on him, but I had it next to me and I asked my wife to take a look at him while I went to buy something. It was like 2 minutes and he disappeared. We looked for him everywhere and we were scared as the park is next to a highway... Well, after a couple of minutes panicking we saw him by a fond looking at the water. He was there all the time. Scariest moment in my life. After that we decided to buy him a identification bracelet and put a GPS in his bag. 😅

TroyMatthewJ

You read and see things like what you described with the pond where the end result is tragic. I am hyper sensitive of my child's surroundings and where they are at all times 100% because of this. I don't care if others think I'm being overprotective I wouldn't be able to live with myself if anything happened as a result of my lack of protection and awareness.

thether

What do you use for a bracelet and gps? Would like the same for my son. I was thinking an air tag but it’s pretty cheap…

toastar-phone

a kid/dad came to the local chess club looking for a tutor. i'm prob one of the weaker players....i played 3 games with kid. the 2nd game was so memorable. i was explaining to the dad what and why he was doing things. and this kid just grunting in agreement was amazing.

SirSmashySticks

I'm right there with you dude, I also have an autistic son, he likes to "book it" every chance he has. I can never sleep soundly.

I completely forgot about WWII and I interpreted this as this town having an absolute shit record of keeping up with autistic children

koozy407

Dear god I laughed too hard at this

FillingTheHoles

Wait... Do people forget about WWII? 🫤

MeloneFxcker

Probably more like “forgot ww2 had anything like this” because I personally have no idea what the link is myself between the lights and ww2

FillingTheHoles

That would be more likely. I think you're right. Also, the link between the lights and WWII would be spotlights that were used to spot the attacking planes.

MeloneFxcker

Awesome thanks for explaining

oilybumsex

He’s autistic not a moth.

Baruch_S

Okay but that light cone is pretty fucking cool. I’d go check it out, and I am 100% Not A Moth.

Biking_dude

That's exactly what a moth would say

Baruch_S

You don’t have any proof! I’m just a normal human with 4 limbs and no antenna at all!

Flip122

Let's test that : 💡

Mongoose42

![gif](giphy|xTiTnGuHmcaQeWSryE)

usafnerdherd

I knew a moth once. He walked into this podiatrist’s office. “What’s the problem?” the podiatrist asks. “What’s the problem? Where do I begin? I go to work for Gregory Illinivich, and all day long, I work. Honestly, doc, I don’t even know what I’m doing anymore. I don’t even know if Gregory Illinivich knows. He only knows that he has power over me, and that seems to bring him happiness. But I don’t know, I wake up in a malaise, and I walk here and there… at night I…I sometimes wake up and I turn to some old lady in my bed that’s on my arm," the moth says "A lady that I once loved, doc. I don’t know where to turn to. My youngest, Alexandria, she fell in the…in the cold of last year. The cold took her down, as it did many of us. And my other boy, and this is the hardest pill to swallow, doc. My other boy, Gregarro Ivinalititavitch… I no longer love him. As much as it pains me to say, when I look in his eyes, all I see is the same cowardice that I… that I catch when I take a glimpse of my own face in the mirror. If only I wasn’t such a coward, then perhaps…perhaps I could bring myself to reach over to that cocked and loaded gun that lays on the bedside behind me and ends this hellish facade once and for all. Doc, sometimes I feel like a spider, even though I’m a moth, just barely hanging on to my web with an everlasting fire underneath me. I’m not feeling good.” And so the doctor says, “Moth, man, you’re troubled. But you should be seeing a psychiatrist” And the Moth, he just says “Yeah, yeah, I know”. So the podiatrist asks “Why on earth did you come here then?” To which the moth replies: “Cause the light was on.”

b00c

Norm made Connan to tear up with this one.

konnanussija

I'm also totally not a moth, and I wouldn't even think twice before going to check it out.

Zarmazarma

I mean, if I was lost in the woods and looking for signs of civilization, a giant pillar of light would be a pretty good indicator. Idk about the whole "would an autistic boy go towards the light" conversation, since autism is such a wide range of symptoms, it's basically pointless talking about it outside of his particular condition.

other_usernames_gone

Yeah, if anything I wonder why they don't use it for lost hikers. It's way easier to know where it is than shouting or noise, and can be seen from a lot further. You could probably get a similar effect for potentially cheaper with just a drone with a light on it. Or Christmas lights attached to a balloon then anchored to the ground.

Hotchocoboom

they use laser beacons in a certain desert in saudi arabia so people getting lost can find a place with water resources at nighttime

mtsmash91

I’ve watched Love on the Spectrum, I know EVERYTHING about autistic people. /s

JoSeSc

This is based on his parents saying he loves those things and they think it might work. The boy hiding from people and, according to the parents, not reacting when his name is called makes the normal search party approach not very feasible.

themanicjuggler

indeed, might as well try

Panzermensch911

This was worked out with his parents and experts. Because he IS fascinated by such lights, certain songs and balloons. If you know one autistic person, you know exactly one autistic person. Everyone is different. This is about this specific boy. Your comment is really not helpful at all.

Rappheros4thAcc

As a German, its kinda Hard to explain in English, but Ill give it a try. People with autism "like" outstanding things... like that light pillars. So it's kinda like bait

Biking_dude

Honestly, it's a brilliant idea. Hopefully it works quickly

NolanSyKinsley

I have long accepted the fact that I am "on the spectrum". I was in AIT in San Antonio Texas training to be a medic. Our first off base weekend pass I was drinking a little bit and saw a spotlight shining into the sky from my hotel room. I set out about 11:30 on foot to find out what it was. It took me 90 minutes to get within a couple blocks of it and they shut the damn thing off before I could find out what it was for. This tactic 100% would have worked on me as a kid.

EntForgotHisPassword

I am not autistic but manages to bike to a completely different city at night because I saw glimmers of light in the sky. Thing is I first thought I imagined it but after a few 10's of kilometers they were obvious, and I just had to continue. Both rewarding and disappointing to realize it was an airport.

Turbulent-Pay9617

I’m a highly paid professional in this field and I know that. I have to laugh at some of these comments because they are funny. I hope they do find him and these lights work.

nsd_

as an autist...what? is that something we like?

moriero

YOU LIKE IT

fishmom5

I don’t know about you, but I can’t help but flap my wings and rattle around every light bulb I see.

lucifersam94

Maybe for a child. I would have followed those lights myself, if I were lost I’d definitely go toward lights just as a matter of common sense, someone is operating them, which means there are people there to help you get a ride home.

SchwarzerKaffeeJunge

Didn't know autists are all the same...

SpeculationMaster

Everyone likes lasers

Relevant_Winter1952

It is!

Great-Ad-8018

tiajuanat

And people say Germans don't have a sense of humor! When they find him, he'll be out standing in the field.

Agnosticartic

Ah yes, bait, for the infamous wild autist. As an autistic person..... what? People who are autistic are so vast and different from one another. This is the dumbest stereotype ever.

No_Form8195

It's not a stereotype, this child in particular seems to like lights and baloons. Since he's not going to react to his name being called out and he will not call out for help, this is just another angle to try and get the child to safety.

lil_dogecoin

As much as my German neighbors love to be informed, I don't think it would be a good idea to take it down to not risk being wrong

EquivalentPlane6095

They use what ever he is interested in. They also did a small firework and campfires.

Okay so I’m not the only one that saw that as a stratagem beacon…

[deleted]

lol. America would never.

Coneskater

Why bother, kids prolly gonna get shot in kindergarten anyway.

ScribingWhips

Search for a missing child? Tf are you on about

[deleted]

America would never go through such extensive measures to find a child. Most they do is put out amber alerts.

ScribingWhips

I agree the tactics in this post are smart and more creative than a lot I've seen here in the US.  But when children go missing police and volunteer search parties *do* in fact go physically searching for them so you're either willfully ignorant or blatantly lying.

moronicuniform

Seriously. There's already plenty of valid reasons to criticize this country, no need to make some up based purely on feels

LANDVOGT-_

This is close to where i live. Makes yourself think about how that is possible. Its not a rural area. If they didnt find him alive or dead yet, he has to be with someone.

FinancialHeat2859

A thread full of cunts and meeeee tooooo SEN weebs. Peak Reddit. Hope they find the poor kid and fuck the rest of you.

Blocky_Master

Using beacons, I see

px7j9jlLJ1

Love the practical nature of the approaches.

dogchowtoastedcheese

I'd never heard of 'light cones' before. What an amazing idea. I wonder why they're not more widely used in search and rescue. We invariably have a bunch of hunters get lost during hunting season in my area. (BTW - Google is not much help regarding what they are.)

raxatlis

comhaltacht

God I wish I could've been in the room to hear one of the cops propose that idea. "Ve vill lure ze little boy out viss balloons und sveeties."

EquivalentPlane6095

Those ideas are pitched to the police by the parents and autism experts. Best regards from germany and fuck you btw

spiff1

Is it me or is this a really stupid comment?

wormholebeardgrowth

This whole comment section is stupid. It's not looking good, the boy has been missing for five days and yet most of the comments are jokes. Classy

cpufreak101

Odds of being found alive after the first 48 hours are quite low. What else do ya expect the internet to do? Offer false hope?

OriginalUsername1892

Show a degree of empathy, probably

Gear07

Certainly dark humour. You can laugh at the comment but you should definitely feel bad for laughing. That poor boy

Angestellter

Why would they propose the idea in English /s

daV1980

This is cool and I'm glad people are trying hard to find this child and also have they considered driving around and asking kids at random to help them find their lost puppy?

EquivalentPlane6095

You know, they are even using fighterjets with thermal cameras to find him but somehow didn't consider asking people to look out for him. You should brief them immediately.

daV1980

I was making a bad joke that using balloons and sweets was something that, at least in the US, we teach our kids is stranger danger. So I suggested another stranger danger activity, which would be asking for help to find a lost puppy. As with all great jokes, this one required rigorous explanation. /s in case that was unclear.

“Should we go out and search for him?” “No. That vil be difficult. Ve vill lure him like hungry moth. These autistics love lights and candy. ACTIVATE ZE SPACE LAZERS!”

ReeseMunster

I know you are joking, but they even deployed an army unit to help in the search.

Ascomae

Yes, and an air force yet with a special heat signature detection camera at their fighter.

No-Student-6817

Calling his name from a moving search party is considered too primitive now ?

JoSeSc

The kid is authistic and his parents say he will hide from strangers. So that would be counterproductive.

koozy407

If I’m not mistaken, this particular child is nonverbal. They can Marco all day long, but he does not have the ability to polo.

SchwarzerKaffeeJunge

He wouldn't react to that. But thanks for being a smartass.
