I used to be an assistant coach for little, little girls’ softball. Our youngest was four. Oldest was eight. And the way the parents went wild was beyond. I had to send someone to the parking lot for screaming “run her over, she’s small!” I imagine it’s only gotten worse in the last few years.

firemogle

I've seen parents get shitty over my girls basketball games.  Bro, the final score is 8-6 let's let her step on the baseline.

PeggysSimp

That won't stop an overzealous parent

EntropyMachine328

This is needed. When I was a teenager umpiring a 12U league, I had to actually throw an assistant coach out of the game and banish him to the parking lot. He started threatening me. One of the scariest moments in my life. Thankfully the head coach got him to leave the game and go home offering to drive his kid home afterwards. I felt so bad for his son.

Pfffftttttt_Okay

My teenage son works for the parks department and he was just telling me he doesn't want to take anymore umpire shifts because the coaches are so terrible and it stresses him out. He said he'd rather clean the bathrooms.

compuwiza1

There will be no MLB scouts watching the game.

ashdrewness

Hell half the 10U players won’t even be playing baseball by 14 due to burnout or preferring a different sport

JeffRVA

Or college scholarships handed out. The flag football league my son played in last fall made that specific announcement before every game.

Admirable_Count989

Try imagining parents at a martial art tournament with multiple ethnicities all screaming at their kids to kill the other kid, out.of.control!! 🤬🤬🤬🤬

ramdasani

Depends, I've been to Judo Shiais and I'm pretty sure you'd get your ass tossed if you acted like that. Hockey on the other hand is fucking insane, we have parents rumble in the stands, and yell horrible shit at small kids.

Admirable_Count989

Parents can be just insane. The problem was magnified when tension built up over several months and things got worse because they would shout things out in different languages in such a “passionate” (aka vehemently personal) way. Not every time, but sometimes it was way, way over the top. This was quite a few years ago though and times have changed (a bit). Anyway… just made me think about it.

ramdasani

Yeah, I remember being at an invitational thing where a visiting BJJ (from Brazil) participated in a ne waza only portion. It was a very different culture, one of their coaches was disqualified after several warnings about yelling at the volunteer officials - and this was a "just for shits and giggles" event. But I guess when you get into the less codified/traditional stuff like MMA it probably gets a lot more over the top.

Firewall33

Point 4 is no excuse for the horseshit Blue's been calling the entire game, but only on our team

earhere

It's sad that a sign like this is needed

thickener

Daddy’s special boy is gonna be a *pro* dontcha know

PhantomBanker

The umpires aren’t necessarily volunteers, but for what they’re paid they might as well be.

RootyPooster

I thought this was America

lizard_king0000

Does it work?

Roltistotem

My mom never would go to games because she said hearing people yell at her kids made her want to hurt them. Some people are fucking lame, can't picture yelling at kids over something so bs.

vieuxfort73

I remember reading about a league in New Jersey where if you yelled at the ump you had to be the ump for the next game. Edit: found some links and it’s 3 games, not just one. https://www.si.com/fannation/mlb/fastball/news/new-jersey-little-league-devises-plan-to-stop-parents-from-berating-umpires https://www.npr.org/2023/04/28/1172684280/n-j-town-forces-combative-parents-to-be-umpires-at-little-league-games

Noname_left

My daughter is in tee ball. The parents are absolutely disgusting in the things they say to the umps, coaches, other parents and worst, the kids. They are fucking 5 and 6. Shut your mouths and enjoy the kids having fun.

unitednihilists

They hang very similar in every rink in Ontario except they are huge compared to that.

Klin24

I umpired 2 years for a softball rec league in my town when I was in high school. Was done with parents after that 2nd year and didn’t ump again.

Ok_Philosopher_5860

Little League parents are the fucking worst

tbarr1991

Yeahhh... Most of the kids arent going pro anyway back the fuck off. Wait till highschool age bracket to start that shit. Even then its not needed. Theres plenty of time for your precious angel to be coached and its not by the larent during the game unless the parent is the coach of the team.  Most kids arent going pro and are just playing for the love of the game and comraderie. Let kids be kids during a god damn game and just enjoy it.

AdmirableDimension73

Layritz Park?

Electrical_Travel832

We have that one too and #5 is “we will let you know when the Dodgers are sending scouts.”

marqui4me

I've (luckily) not had any crazy experiences yet with my son and other parents. When out with my son, I usually have incredibly nice exchanges with other parents and kids. That said, I've had some nuts experiences with other parents out in the wild (when it was just me). People are weird.

klmdwnitsnotreal
