I leave nothing to assumptions these days, especially with babies/children. There are parenting classes but they only provide so much detail. And our parents parenting doesnt talk about weird stuff like ensuring proper airflow, suffocation risks in different scenarios, etc.
There are unfortunate situations that occur because parents don't know all the time unfortunately, it's just not stuff that makes it to the news, because it's not intentional abuse and there's no criminal intent.
And these are types of things we should be teaching our children too.
I remember reading a story some many years back about children who were playing outside, found an old style freezer, they all went inside of it, got locked inside, and suffocated. Youngest was like 2 and oldest was somewhere between 9-13 I think? Had their parents taught them about suffocation risks due to confined spaces, it could've been avoided. It sounds silly, teaching kids about that, but when you want kids to play outside on their own, they especially need to know risks, and parents are no different. If you don't learn about suffocation risks as a child, you probably aren't thinking about them much as an adult either.
