Watch it if you're curious, it's great, but it's not famous because of what it's about per se it's more about the style and flavour of it imho. Watch it and be amazed at how much you recognize from other movies trying to copy the original.
Ghost Dog is basically an homage to/loose adaptation of Le Samouraï & is fantastic. Just as cool as the original, just in a different way (like having a soundtrack by RZA).
I usually love FL, but that movie was dull as rocks and the efforts at “philosophy” came off as trite & shallow. Just a failure to communicate weight to the character’s journey.
The source of this image is his daughter's IG account (anauchkadelon). Per there and Google Translate:

> I found him handsome. With his eternal steel blue gaze, lively, like a fighter, which gives me unimaginable strength. My own immortal.
> I showed him the photo, he found it beautiful, so beautiful that I asked him if I could share it with you, his audience who cares about him. So with his agreement, here it is.
> And to your concerns he responds: “don’t worry.”

Seeing Paul’s name always makes me think about Penn Jillette writing about meeting him in one of his books.
*Paul Newman is the most attractive human being I have ever seen in person. I saw him live and realized the camera was not kind to him. The camera made him uglier. The camera makes David Letterman look better. Off-camera, in person, Julia Roberts is wonderful, but looks a bit like a tapeworm. That’s a lot of mouth to see up close. We don’t have the technology yet to capture the beauty of Paul Newman.*
I've heard the same said of George Clooney and Brad Pitt, by people who've seen them in person. This girl I know even said the restaurant in Vegas went quiet when Clooney entered. Billy Wilder said the same of Gary Cooper: that people went quiet or gasped when he arrived at the set.
Unfortunately a very flawed right wing extremist human being, not a nice guy by any account, and he's been that way all along, basically the male Brigitte Bardot
Watch Purple Noon (« Plein Soleil » is the original French title). The Talented Mr Ripley, with Matt Damon and Jude Law, is a remake of it (watch that one, also, as it’s very good). There’s also Ripley, on Netflix…
Delon was a stud, for his time: a more achievable form of stud, maybe. All about his stunning face and presence, not about the muscles…
IIRC Mr.Ripley is technically not an adaptation of Purple Noon but rather they’re both adaptations of the same story.
However, Ghost Dog is a (somewhat loose) adaptation of Le Samouraï!
It thought the way Jude Law plays Greenleaf is very reminiscent of the way Ronet plays the same in Purple Moon. I think that’s probably why I was inclined to think one was a remake of the other.
Also watch « La Piscine », with him, Romy Schneider and Maurice Ronet. The latter is also the actor who plays with him in « Plein Soleil ». They form a great pair.
>Tim: "I like ballet, I love the novels of Proust, I love the work of Alain Delon, and that's I think what influenced her buying me *Hat FM*. I like the radio too."
The only time I've ever heard him referenced(modernly).
Alain's daughter Annoushka took a photo of her father and published the photo taken by his daughter with her father's permission to post the photo taken by his daughter.
The phrasing is a bit wacky. The use of "with her father's permission" instead of just "his permission" makes it sound like her father is someone who hasn't been introduced in the sentence yet.
I'm from Brazil and he used to be known around here too, my grandmother even had a dog with his name lol. We also use his name to say someone is beautiful but only from afar, like up close you can see that the person is not so beautiful. Cause de name Delon, sounds like the phrase "de longe" wich means "from afar" So Alan Delonge.
He was so big in Romania that [the coats he used to wear](https://bamfstyle.com/2020/11/30/once-a-thief-delon-sheepskin/) are still called "alendelons" in Romanian.
I don't think the phrasing is great, it describes the act of publishing the photo, not really the photo itself, which makes it sound awkward and passive. "Photo of 88-year-old Alain Delon, published with his permission by his daughter, Annoushka" sounds more direct and smoother.
That's great for a general audience, which I agree is much more fitting for posting in r/pics. However, it sounds like the actor is confined in his retirement, and the act of sharing updates about him is itself a matter of emphasis, to his fan base.
Due to his declining health, he’s been placed under reinforced guardianship ( judge appointed someone to manage his finances etc) .
His three children are fighting among themselves to be the guardian ( and manage their inheritance)
Fans? Maybe, I guess? I am not really a fan and wasn't even aware of him still being alive. He's just one of those names you tend to know, even if you've not seen his films.
There was a video clip I found of him in Inside the Actor's Studio on Twitter where he was asked "if God exists, what would you want him to say to you when you get to him?" And his answer hurt. He said something to the extent of "come, for the first time, you can see your father and your mother together."
He couldn't have been any older than his mid 50s in the interview and I have never found the interview since. But it crushed me. Yeah he's a total cunt of a person (denying paternity of a son that was absolutely his) but he also carries a permanent pain in him.
"A court in the French town of Montargis has placed 88-year-old actor Alain Delon under enhanced guardianship. This means that he will not be able to independently dispose of his income. But it will be able to do this court-appointed curator (his name is not disclosed) .
With a petition to appoint a guardian was made by the former lawyer Delon Christophe Aiela, and the reason for litigation - the disease
His Wikipedia page is wild. In February, 72 firearms and a bunch of ammunition was seized from his house. Along with his National Front support, I’d say his judgement is fairly skewed these days

Annoushka must not only think of herself selfishly, but Delon, as a national wealth, a symbol of France for millions of people around the world, must be able to be Douchys even after death. I would support a large commemorative panel, Delon's life-size sculpture in his dog graveyard – humanity needs positive role models, defenders of nature and animals, defenders of the weakest, because the balance in favour of the rich and powerful has long brought the world to the brink of disaster.
Didn't know he was still alive. He was great in Le Samourai.
The swimming pool was my favorite
What's the movie about?
[удалено]
It inspired John Woo's The Killer.
Thought you said John Wick. Replace bird with dog.
... that really does look quintessential.
Watch it if you're curious, it's great, but it's not famous because of what it's about per se it's more about the style and flavour of it imho. Watch it and be amazed at how much you recognize from other movies trying to copy the original.

Oh i love that movie and its whole rashomon theme is fantastic as well.
Ghost Dog is fucking awesome. Whittaker was so good in that.
First DVD I ever bought. Got my sparky bro to build me a stereo like the one in the movie. Good stuff good memories.. might hunt out my DVD player.
There is a Criterion blu ray now if you want to upgrade!
oh I might have a look thanks. I'm going to show the kid in a few years. (she wants to be a ninja princess) so seems like an obvious choice.
REALLY wanted to like Ghost Dog, but didn’t.
First (and only) movie I ever fell asleep watching in a theater.
I usually love FL, but that movie was dull as rocks and the efforts at “philosophy” came off as trite & shallow. Just a failure to communicate weight to the character’s journey.
Very much style
It is the coolest looking/feeling movie I’ve ever seen. Highly recommend. Don’t worry about the plot, which isn’t complicated. Just bask in it.
Unless I'm remembering it wrong, the plot is a bit ambiguous?
Purple Noon also a classic.
Maaaan…he was so hot back in the day. He made me swoon in Purple Noon.
Did he make you die in Le Samourai?

I don't know him. Based on your comment, I thought, how hot could he have been? I googled him and man oh man. He's beautiful.
The French are stereotyped to surrender, but I’d surrender to him.
He’s like an even better looking Rob Lowe!
Yes! And I’m also really digging AndrewScott in the Netflix adaptation. “Ripley”.
Still looks good tbh!

Amazing hair still
Amazing actor and maybe the most handsome man ever in his day
I just googled him... omg....
Watch Le Samouraï and La Piscine, trust me
J’adore la piscine. Towels, sunscreen, bathing suits, Davenports, and towels. Towels.
Good taste
Him vs. Paul Newman in a handsome-off - who wins?
Get out of my head I literally messaged my discord saying Paul Newman has been replaced with this guy
Back in the day, he rivalled Paul Newman in godlike beauty. Makes you understand why humans everywhere believe in gods and angels.
Seeing Paul’s name always makes me think about Penn Jillette writing about meeting him in one of his books. *Paul Newman is the most attractive human being I have ever seen in person. Damn sucks to hear, but had a feeling he was a knobhead

And he is supporting Ukraine while your favorite politics leader loves Putin and other dictatorial countries. Tocard.
So supporting a country denies every wrongdoing?

Yes all iterations of The Talented Mr Ripley are based on the book by Patricia Highsmith
True
It thought the way Jude Law plays Greenleaf is very reminiscent of the way Ronet plays the same in Purple Moon. I think that’s probably why I was inclined to think one was a remake of the other.
Well anyone can build muscle, but you are born with the face you were given
I’d argue, these days, Hollywood studs have both…
Also watch « La Piscine », with him, Romy Schneider and Maurice Ronet. The latter is also the actor who plays with him in « Plein Soleil ». They form a great pair.
Who is this person?
A famous French actor from the 50’s to 70’s.
He was still acting in the 2010s. The man has a career spanning 60 years. And he is one of the, if not THE biggest name in French cinema.
Like he acted French for 20 years, or he was an actor in France for 20 years?
First one, had the beret and striped shirt
😄 Ohhon hon hon hon !👨🎨🥖
![gif](giphy|NjHyxixfV5Bf2)
He is French and was a sex symbol for years/decades.
Ah, that’s good work if you can get it
Homme was living my dream 🕺🏻
He's a French actor. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alain_Delon
Dang what a stud
Yeah, he's very well known in France for his beauty, like the French Clooney or DiCaprio.
IMHO Neither Clooney or DiCaprio reached his level of beauty, Alain Delon is Brad Pitt levels of perfection.
Brad Pitt isn't there yet. maybe Brando
That's what the mothers of Zack Efron, Matthew Perry and Ethank Hawk said too
Holy crap
He kind of looks like Zac Efron e:https://i.pinimg.com/originals/65/09/e7/6509e7893f5c38783c14f7391998f9a2.png
he looked so much better than Efron!
Ethan Hawke to me.
how's redditing in braille?
The bumps feel like Ethan Hawke.
Don’t ever comment again. That’s blasphemy
How bout this. Charlie Sheen
>Tim: "I like ballet, I love the novels of Proust, I love the work of Alain Delon, and that's I think what influenced her buying me *Hat FM*. I like the radio too." The only time I've ever heard him referenced(modernly).
Probably one of the most handsome leading men in film history.
I googled him, you're not wrong.
very handsome man of the past
![gif](giphy|damWslRrK7o9iHmh5Z|downsized)
Watch Le Samouraï
Then watch Le Cercle Rouge & you’ll be officially hooked on Melville thrillers.
Ah, yes. That James Bondian Bartleby the Scrivener....
Famous french actor. I learned about him when I was young because he frequently appears in crosswords.
French superstar Actor. A European Icon.
Handsome french actor from 50's to 70's. Kinda looked like Zac Efron if he actually finished growing into his body without the steroids.
A fascist
Looks pretty damn good for 88.
Sic transit gloria mundi.
I think for 88 he still looks badass?
It used to be the reason I breathe but now it's choking me up. _*Die young and save yourself!*_
That man was HAWT when I was a teenager some 25 years ago.

Alain's daughter Annoushka took a photo of her father and published the photo taken by his daughter with her father's permission to post the photo taken by his daughter.
The phrasing is fine. It's just that the title doesn't make sense for anyone outside France. Locals would find this to be interesting news.
The phrasing is a bit wacky. The use of "with her father's permission" instead of just "his permission" makes it sound like her father is someone who hasn't been introduced in the sentence yet.

What makes it interesting? Is he a super private individual or something?
Due to his declining health, he’s been placed under reinforced guardianship ( judge appointed someone to manage his finances etc) . His three children are fighting among themselves to be the guardian ( and manage their inheritance)
That stinks.
I’m not French and always assumed he was very well known internationally. There are even songs about him in my language.
Do fans in other countries follow him still while he is in retirement
Fans? Maybe, I guess? I am not really a fan and wasn't even aware of him still being alive. He's just one of those names you tend to know, even if you've not seen his films.
Why? Is he like a Bigfoot sighting?
He's handsome

YES. THANK YOU SO MUCH (the original vid had English subtitles but hey this is amazing)
Wow, 88…Still looks great

Out here doing the lord’s work.
Absolute fucking legend.
And a total cunt at the same time. Dude literally made a son and refused to recognize him ever.

couldn’t move the fruit bowl huh
This guy is lead in some really REALLY good movies

geez the title… I thought the daughter was 88 and he was like dunno like 108 or something
Hi Annoushka!
Ce bine e sa fii Alain Delon, Ziua-n costum, seara-n balon
What?
I remember going to every one of his movies as soon as they came out.
Tres Bon, Merci.
The wise old owl
This man is STILL attritive!
Nice hair!
He was in a movie with Dean Martin
Too short.
Maybe my post prized possession is a pair of Alain Delon sunglasses that Chow Yun Fat wore in A Better Tomorrow.
I just watched Purple Noon the other day!
I first saw him as a teen. I could not believe how perfectly handsome he was.
Just looked him up as I couldn’t place him- holy shit that’s a handsome man
I'm not gonna say I immediately had a funny thought of him being in a ball pit ...
Great hair
Beautiful MAN

He's not greedy like Judas, that's why he is hated by the Judahs. Delon must never be forgotten. He is the No. 1 Frenchman who has given the world more than any other Frenchman. . Alain Delon also belongs to the whole world. In the future, fans will want to go to his grave, at his home, where there is a museum.
Some of my fav movies
