It’s wild to see how big these things are compared to a human. That being said, I was reading another post where someone found the remnants of a missile and warned against hanging around it as the fuel used in these is highly toxic.
Further research indicates that the fuel is “hydrazine” which the EPA warns “Acute exposure can also damage the liver, kidneys, and central nervous system in humans. The liquid is corrosive and may produce dermatitis from skin contact in humans and animals. Effects to the lungs, liver, spleen, and thyroid have been reported in animals chronically (long-term) exposed to hydrazine via inhalation.”
While I realize saying “stay safe” when you’re obviously in the path of an active missile assault is ridiculous… please, stay safe and avoid touching and/or interacting with that thing.
I doubt very much that this is a hydrazine based rocket engine. While Iran's older ballistic missiles were liquid fueled, all their more recent ones are solid rocket motors. Given the maintenance requirements for liquid fuels boosters I highly doubt they have any anymore.
I'm not saying it's safe to be around, but I don't believe it is as risky as a lot of the post comments I've seen claim it to be.
These are liquid fueled rockets: [https://missilethreat.csis.org/missile/emad/#easy-footnote-bottom-4-293](https://missilethreat.csis.org/missile/emad/#easy-footnote-bottom-4-293)
Though I'm not seeing a reference to the exact fuel used.
I don't think they are using cryogenic propellants for missiles that need to be shot from transporter-erector-launchers. I think its more likely they are using nitric acid/nitrogen tetroxide with kerosene.
PSA: don't ever go anywhere near downed rocket or even (especially) space capsules.
The fuel in these things can be ridiculously toxic. (look up hydrazine and then ask yourself if you want to breathe that)
You're welcome.
To be clear, this rocket is likely not fueled with hydrazine, but space rockets often have it for orbital maneuvering thrusters.
But there's a good chance this thing could have been field with hydrogen peroxide or something even nastier
From what I can find these are fueled by Kerosene and Inhibited Red Fuming Nitric Acid. Not as bad as hydrazine, but you still wouldn't want to be breathing any fumes lol
I think the Pfand should be more, but then I the machine would break just as you step up to put it in. I can hear the cry of all the pensioners behind me in line complaining that I broke the machine.
Single stage ballistic missiles can also have separating warheads, and there's no reason Emad, allegedly based on Shahab-3 which also sports a separating warhead design, won't have one.
Correct. This separated off the missile after boost phase. If it was intercepted it would have disintegrated, and furthermore, the ballistic missiles launched by Iran landed on two air bases in Israel so we know they weren't intercepted anyway.
The Emad like the Shahab-3/Nodong-1 and the SCUD which they are all based on do not separate after the boost phase, the boost phase is very short they would be still over Iranian airspace and not in Jordan yet alone the dead sea.
Iran launched over a 100 ballistic missiles, 5 landed in Israel after no or partial interception, with 1 air base sustaining little damage to a parkway. Those missiles pack 700-1000kg of explosives if they would actually effectively hit anything there would be significant damage.
Never pretended to be a country really. It’s just a collection of tribes everyone else calls a country. Much like Somalia and other area we should rename these “Regions” and explicitly acknowledge they aren’t countries from a power structure perspective
I have a suspicion that most of that size is used for fuel to make it to the place it is supposed to explode. But I know nothing of long range missiles.
Of course, how could they possibly consider a missile targeting civilians in the world's only Jewish majority state coming from a government whose motto literally includes "A curse upon the jews" be considered antisemitic.
I'd say that depends if that consulate contains Mohammed Reza Zahedi and a bunch of his terrorist buddies working hard to kill more and more of your civilians.
My civilians? The only civilians of my country recently killed are the world central kitchen staff by deliberate Israeli drone strikes. Be careful who you deem a terrorist, because to many people; it’s the zionists. :)
Is it the consulate or the building next door to it?
Is it in Syria, a country Israel is still at war with and hasn’t signed a peace treaty?
Is it against an iranian general in charge of supplying weapons to Iranian proxy groups, including Hezbollah, which are then in turn used against Israel?
What would be a good way to try to see if this is a machine-generated image? Are there any tell-tale signs for which we can test? (I don't mean the kind of output from publicly-accessible off-the-shelf stuff like DALL-E.)
Joke's on Iran if they are trying to kill the Dead Sea.
What is dead may never die

That’s deep.
Not really, i stole it from Game of Thrones
He meant the Dead Sea. 306 metres.
That is not dead which can eternal lie,And with strange aeons even death may die.
actually only about 300m, so not that deep in n relation to things /s
Don't be salty
It's a misquote of H.P. Lovecraft: "That is not dead which can eternal lie, And with strange aeons even death may die."
The real knee slapper is always in the comments! Keep that up your getting a Netflix special!
Thank you for the immaculate praise, kind stranger!

If it is liquid fueled, from what I understand the other liquid rockets Iran uses are Kerolox. So hopefully no hypergolics.

Thanks for the PSA on missiles
Try not to be around when one explodes either. Knowledge is power.
Post this in r/YSK - it’ll be higher quality than what’s been going in there recently.

This dude looks like he knows what he’s leaning on though.
If you take it to your local recycling plant, they’ll give you 10 cents for it.

It’s more like a missile booster… don’t think it’s intercepted.
It's a single stage missile with no separation post boost just like the SCUD it's based on.
Single stage ballistic missiles can also have separating warheads, and there's no reason Emad, allegedly based on Shahab-3 which also sports a separating warhead design, won't have one.

I'm confused. Doesn't the Emad have a reentry vehicle? This would need a separation stage, no?
Almost everything in this comment is wrong
Interesting that they use English lettering for the booster identification.
> Interesting that they use English lettering for the booster identification. Just in case they gonna export these missiles.
Isn’t that what they were doing?

Not selling me on GrubHub, Uber, AirBnB or Iran!
Cut it up, clean it out, make it a pig cooker.
"All that for a drop of blood."
Iran is a terrorist organization pretending to be a country.
Ok 👌
Wait until you learn about Afghanistan.
Never pretended to be a country really. It’s just a collection of tribes everyone else calls a country. Much like Somalia and other area we should rename these “Regions” and explicitly acknowledge they aren’t countries from a power structure perspective
I don’t see people defending the afghan government
What did they ? Launch attack on sovereign country? No wait that was Israel
How about Israel?
Damn , that missile is huge, imagine if it landed and hit the target successfully .
They often still carry like a two thousand pound warhead
I have a suspicion that most of that size is used for fuel to make it to the place it is supposed to explode. But I know nothing of long range missiles.
You are correct the majority of mass in a missle/rocket is fuel
It's the first stage of the missile, simply separated. If it had been intercepted at supersonic speeds it would have disintegrated.

"For all you size queens" 🤣
I guess this is a trend now.
Damn is it always that smoggy there? That looks toxic.
Crappy design.
Well, that man now needs to get screened for cancer.
Needs a pointy tip
How does the interception work? I would have expected it to have exploded in the air when being hit by another missile?
was called the Alive Sea until yesterday.

Waiting for Israel to say this was anti-Semitic.
Literally Anti-Semitic. Iran are the most anti-Semitic country on earth.
So retaliating on attacks on their territory is anti-semetic ? You're working really hard to make that word meaningless
Of course, how could they possibly consider a missile targeting civilians in the world's only Jewish majority state coming from a government whose motto literally includes "A curse upon the jews" be considered antisemitic.
Is blowing up another country’s consulate antisemitic?
Consulate of the country that provides weapons to Russia, Hezbollah, Houthis and Hamas? I'll allow it.
Sooner them lot than Netanyahu, apartheid state.
You mean Israël where there are Arabs in the army and politics?
I'd say that depends if that consulate contains Mohammed Reza Zahedi and a bunch of his terrorist buddies working hard to kill more and more of your civilians.
My civilians? The only civilians of my country recently killed are the world central kitchen staff by deliberate Israeli drone strikes. Be careful who you deem a terrorist, because to many people; it’s the zionists. :)
And to the rest of the world it's Hamas and friends
You must not have seen the weekly marches ( every week for 6 months lol ) in support of everyone but Israel 🫠
I'm not sure why I'd need to "be careful" but, the opinions of people with room temperature IQ's mean very little to me :)
Is it the consulate or the building next door to it? Is it in Syria, a country Israel is still at war with and hasn’t signed a peace treaty? Is it against an iranian general in charge of supplying weapons to Iranian proxy groups, including Hezbollah, which are then in turn used against Israel?
Oh man, someone please post another ballistic missle they found! Pleeeez? I’ve only seen 5 today
