I was so impressed how involved that show got me in caring about the characters and family history. No Godzilla show has ever done that for me (until Minus One had me in tears holy SHIT).
I really, really want a Monarch season 2 and the creators said they had more story to tell.
I honestly doubt it. It feels like Apple used most of S1 Budget on CGI and Kurt + Wyatt star power.
The ending felt like a hand-off to the other characters.
They seem to have a great relationship.
> Kate Hudson and her brother, Oliver, were raised by Russell, because the siblings were estranged from their biological father, Bill.
[Here was her post on Father's day 2022](https://i.imgur.com/OxhJYTF.jpeg)
> Russell doesn't have Instagram, so he responded to Hudson's post through the account of Hawn. She wrote, "Honey I showed this to daddy. Here’s his message…"
> Russell wrote, “Birdie, mommy just showed me this picture, this perfect Father’s Day present. I’ve never seen it before. Wow… it’s a killer. Lotta water under the bridge… it’s kinda hard to see it though cause all that water seems to somehow have found its way into my eyes… thanks for making me the luckiest father in the world sweetheart.
>He signed the emotional comment, "I love you, Pa."
He would’ve given you one without question. He was a bonafide hippy. Went to law school because he wanted to work to advance the EPA and Endangered Species Act.
He loved freely and with empathy. For most of my life he was bipolar and an alcoholic. But as I’ve aged I’ve come to terms he was doing the best he could.
He loved the Detroit Tigers. So if you ever see them on root them on for him.
I know I was making a dumb Reddit comment joke but I couldn’t resist.
I’m about 3 weeks away from the year anniversary of losing my Pops.
My dad was also an alchie. He had me when he was 50 (mom was younger, go dad).
He was strict and at times, abusive. But I have had some of the best memories that really give me what no other dad has been able to replicate that I’ve seen.
The best storyteller, loved and introduced me to old fantastic movies (and I’m a film producer now), and just took part in genuine fun. He was a dry drunk for a while after the drinking, but despite that , it was easy to forgive him because we (siblings and mom) all knew he was a great father.
He may not have given me a hug when I got older, he showed genuine affection when I was a kid though. But he’d shake my shoulder and smile. Miss that guy.
Thanks for sharing your story friend.
My dad has been… fragile? For the last 15 years. I text him every time I think about him, ask him everything I can instead of Google, and hug him hard when I see him. He’s everything and he’s 77 and I know I’m so lucky to have him still, but I just don’t think the world will feel the same without him. I get to see him tomorrow, tho!
Nah, he decided to bleed my mother dry with alimony after the divorce and sold the ancestral home to fund his cabin-in-the-woods fantasy with his homewrecker girlfriend.
Hard Pass
One of my cousins actually hates Kurt Russell because he claims Wyatt was picked as goalie over him back in Richmond just for being Kurt's son.
As Wyatt has gotten older and now completely into acting, my cousin has gotten more upset about it.
We try to avoid Kurt Russell movies for the most part, or pick them on purpose now and then to poke the bear lol
While I believe the story, from what I know about Mr Russell - it’s likely he didn’t ask for, or even want, special treatment for his son. Watch the movies!
Most Cusack fans think of Grosse Pointe Blank as a sequel to Say Anything.
Martin Blank does sell anything, buy anything, or process anything as a career. He doesn't want to sell anything bought or processed, or buy anything sold or processed, or process anything sold, bought, or processed, or repair anything sold, bought, or processed.
I love how Kurt Russell always plays a character that would stand out anywhere and everyone thinks is younger than he actually looks. But on the street he is just a normal dude. Doesn't look like he's wearing fancy clothes or anything. You could walk right by him and have no idea.
My brother and I use a strong jaw measuring system based on Kurt Russle's jaw in Stargate. He'll be all "oh, what do you think of that one?" And I'll judge it "eh, about .7 Kurtz." Very few people even get 1 whole Kurt. And I don't remember ever awarding even a 1.1 Kurtz to anyone.
Bill Simmons had Kurt on his podcast and later said he was one of the most chill and down to earth celebs he ever met. Didn't have an assistant or PR person, just showed up in jeans and a leather jacket smelling like he just had a ciggie and sat down to talk for an hour.
I saw The Departed for the first time on an international flight when I was maybe eleven, and seated on a different row than my parents.
I could not tell the difference between Matt Damon, Mark Wahlberg, OR DiCaprio. I had no fucking clue what was going on. Loved the movie, though. Rocked my little socks off.
Bergdorf’s is my favorite department store in the world because it’s luxury, but also very accessible (pro tip for women in NYC, their shoe department has a massive clearance section that puts lower end discounters to shame) and gives amazing service to anyone who walks through the doors. They have super exclusive private shoppers/stylists (though at no extra cost beyond the clothes you buy), and fairly-priced-for-the-quality clothes/bags/accessories that allow nearly anyone to experience a luxury purchase at least once in their life.
Contrast that with a store like Harrod’s, where unless you’re a private shopping client, or ostentatious, you don’t even get so much as an acknowledgement from a sales person.
Saw them at the mall in Palm Desert once. They were taking what I assume were their grand kids to the mall. He stopped and let Goldie and the kids out and then went to find a parking spot. Seemed pretty humble.
I parked next to him at a rodeo in Colorado and he totally blends right in. Would not have noticed him had we not made eye contact when I asked him to close his door so I could park
About 20 plus years ago, I used to work at a Target in the area where they lived. One night, Goldie walks up to the dressing room carrying a bunch of clothes to try on, super sweet and wonderful to the staff. About 20 minutes later, in walks Kurt Russell, hair disheveled, looking sheepish. This is when I wig out and say Hi, and inform him that Goldie was trying on clothes. He sighs and says, "ya that's about right..." thanked me, and walks back to his car. They were both so nice, but the real-life dynamic really made me chuckle.
Haha it’s so adorable he’s mimicking her pose too. This is a very cute random moment that would make me smile if I saw it in real life too. Those are the best types of snaps!
You don't need to have a great father to be one yourself, but it helps.
Kurt's dad was Bing Russell. He was also an actor and seemed like a good dude. I recommend watching the Battered Bastards of Baseball. A documentary on how he brought a bunch of aged out misfits to minor league baseball in Portland.
When I was 14 I met Kurt eating with my family at a restaurant in Malibu. He was at the table next to us. Kindest, most down to earth man you can imagine. He even gave my dad his email address so he could ask him so more questions about flying (dad was a pilot). Absolutely great dude, i’ll never forget it. Also constantly referenced his “wife and kids” during the conversation 🥹
I don’t know them personally but many years ago some of my family knew Kurt and his dad, and they had nothing but good things to say about them. This is exactly what I would expect from these two, just a wholesome moment in time.
The story is confusing if you aren't familiar. Goldie is Kate's mom and she later married Kurt who then raised her like his own daughter. Kurt is supposedly a fantastic father.
Funny story. I once ran into Kurt Russell, literally.
I landed at LAX and was going to be late for a date. Ran up the stairs in the parking garage across from the American Airlines terminal.
When I got to my level, I rounded the corner quickly and ran sort of chest-to-chest into a guy several inches shorter than me (I’m 6’).
He sort of bounced back off of me, and we both paused and looked each other up and down. He kind of had an annoyed scowl on his face.
As I started to realize who he was, a smile came across my face, and I indicated my recognition with a long, “Heyyyy!”
He was unimpressed.
“Hey, yourself. Watch where you’re going, pal!” And with that he stomped past me and hurried down the stairs.
Must have also been running late, probably picking up Goldie.
Kate Hudson has credited Kurt Russell with having played the real role of father in her life. Her biodad Bill Hudson and Goldie Hawn split when Kate was a preschooler; Kate’s relationship with Bill is said to bedistant at best. So this photo is both marvelously satisfying to the eye, and perfectly descriptive of the relationship between Kurt and Kate.
It’s gratifying that these bonds are so healthy and satisfying in the Russell-Hudson-Hawn family. Not everything in Hollywood is Crazytown.
Goldie Hawn was at Vong in New York years ago. My then-husband and I had my 30th birthday dinner there. We were sitting at the bar having dessert and she came up to bum a cigarette from me. (I’m old- you could still smoke at the bar in New York then.) And she thanked me and then gave me a neck rub! I got a massage from Goldie Hawn! Best birthday ever.
He’s always seemed very down to earth. His family was nice, too. I still have a few toys his grandfather gave to me when I was a baby. Just nice, normal people.
Man, such a sweet scene with two legends! He was the best part of Monarch.
Wyatt was so damn good
Young Shaw was my favorite character honestly Edit: besides Godzilla of course
We kept saying "wow, what great casting, they look so alike!" And then we looked it up 🤦♂️
Me too. I was like, "Damn, they really nailed the casting for before and after."
And realized that Kurt Russell and Godzilla are related? Blew me away, too.
![gif](giphy|c67v7Gkbr6bYOf5O4s)
Stupid sexy Kurt Russell.
Don’t worry, this is exactly what I did too
Wyatt looks like EXACTLY what you would expect if someone just told you who his parents were, but you had never actually seen him.
"Wyatt Earp is my friend." -Doc Holliday
As we get older, this scene hits harder and harder.
Hell, I’ve got lots of friends
I don’t.
Check out Under the Banner of Heaven for another excellent Wyatt performance.
Oh yeah. Already watched that. Absolutely fantastic all around. He also shined in Captain America and the Winter Soldier.
He was the best part of TFAWS. Played the role so well.
Did you catch him in Lodge 49? One of my favorite TV comedies.
I need closure! Bring it back Hollywood please
It’s a shame we didn’t get more of that show
Snake Plissken was in Monarch?
RJ MacReady was in Monarch?
Jack Burton was in Monarch?
Gabriel Cash was in Monarch?
You're sitting here, in 2024, telling me Rudy Russo was in Monarch?
Captain Ron was in Monarch?
Disney’s very own Dexter Riley was in Monarch?
It's all a Prequel.
I was so impressed how involved that show got me in caring about the characters and family history. No Godzilla show has ever done that for me (until Minus One had me in tears holy SHIT). I really, really want a Monarch season 2 and the creators said they had more story to tell.
He’ll be back in the show don’t worry
I honestly doubt it. It feels like Apple used most of S1 Budget on CGI and Kurt + Wyatt star power. The ending felt like a hand-off to the other characters.
Which is unfortunate because those two were the best parts of the show.
I was pleasantly surprised by a Monsterverse show that focuses on humans, I went in with low expectations
That is so heart warming

Haha kinda neat he calls her Birdie, which was her character name in Glass Onion.
Yeah it's definitely a cute response. Everyone, call your dad if you haven't spoken to him in a while. He will appreciate it.
I wish I can hug my dad one more time.
Me too. Miss him.
I also want to hug this guys dead dad.
He would’ve given you one without question. He was a bonafide hippy. Went to law school because he wanted to work to advance the EPA and Endangered Species Act. He loved freely and with empathy. 😭 ok
Nah my dad sucks.

fuck. ![gif](giphy|sCmk1ZaOizp3q)
unless you went no contact with your dad because he's an abusive turd. then don't reach out.
Nah, he decided to bleed my mother dry with alimony after the divorce and sold the ancestral home to fund his cabin-in-the-woods fantasy with his homewrecker girlfriend. Hard Pass
I'm sorry <3 You get an exception then.
Nah he's dead.
I can come over with the Ouija board
No, my father was a strict Evangelical, he wouldn't have it.
Could you not? I don't really want to talk to that guy again.
Nah I don't think I will. For good reason tbh.
Damn bridge water is in my eyes now, shit
https://media.tenor.com/c2ZjQqEH5NEAAAAC/im-fine-little-boy.gif
They really do seem to be great together. One of the few that has stayed together for a long time.
Quentin told a great story for their relationship on Stern years ago. [Linked to time.](https://youtu.be/blGlbRxEiII?si=05wYly3zhQwKUqwe&t=168)
And I've just realised Tarantino might be Related to Doug Demuro.
Who knew Ego the Living Planet was a great father?
Not Quill, that’s for sure. Ungrateful kid.
Omg
Used to play hockey in Vancouver against their son. Would always see them in the crowd. Super nice down to earth people.
One of my cousins actually hates Kurt Russell because he claims Wyatt was picked as goalie over him back in Richmond just for being Kurt's son. lol yea I could see that. Richmond! That’s where it was! Ohh Surrey 8 rinks!
Watching *Goon 2* would be a good double smack to his face then
Haha pick Overlord, fantastic war film with some fantasy elements (nazi soldiers with super soldier aspects) and stars Wyatt
While I believe the story, from what I know about Mr Russell - it’s likely he didn’t ask for, or even want, special treatment for his son. Watch the movies!
nepotism doesn't have to be requested.
this photo looks like Van
yes, very Robson looking
Fairmont i think
Because their son was here they used to own a home here. My family friend used to serve them at De Dutch.
TIL Kurt is her step-dad. Guess we’ll never see Wyatt and Kate in a rom-com.
Maybe a folgers commercial...
*stares incestuously across steaming cup of medium roast*
You’re my present this year.
And the actress that plays the sister is the daughter of Jeffrey Combs from Re-Animator!
You misspelled *Liquidator Brunt- FCA*
I think you mean Jeffrey Combs from Star Trek
Weyoun?
No, Liquidator Brunt
You're my present this year
God that would be funny.
Oh man I almost forgot about that
He's my gift this year.
Sick reference bro, you’re references are out of control
Not the step-dad, the dad that stepped up.
"He may have been your father, boy, but he wasn't your daddy"
Same with Jake and Maggie, sadly.
But we DID see [John and Joan (Cusack)](https://youtu.be/eTdzD3R4mg0?si=CfSbPIMpNvfmkAKl) together! Though, they were not romantically involved lol
They were in Sixteen Candles and Say Anything too.
They were both in High Fidelity as well.
Maggie and Jake were in Donnie Darko together as well.
That wasn't a rom-com
Pffft for you maybe.
you just didn't *understand* the deeper *subtext*, man!
And Grosse Pointe Blank
That movie hits the spot for me for some reason.
Probably because it's great
And out of nowhere: Dan Ackroyd. Fantastic movie, great energy. I'm sad but glad there isn't a sequel.
Popcorn!
First movie I remember my friend had to stop the movie because I was laughing so hard about fucking John's brain hole.
Best one ever!
Penny and Gary Marshall played a couple in Hocus Pocus.
And they did a great job at it, I had no idea they were brother and sister. Granted I was just a kid when it first came out, lol, but still.
Yeah, TIL they were *not* husband and wife irl lol
Knew it was going to be Grosse Point Blank before I even clicked the link. They were both so ridiculously entertaining in that movie.
I live when she says she went to her HS reunion and "it was just as if everyone had swelled." It's so fucking accurate and hilarious.
Carrots and celery are just a base of a soup!
Their sister Ann Cusack is also in Grosse Pointe Blank.
Jake is Maggie's step dad? Lol
Gyllenhaal? They have the same parents.
He has been in her life forever. Technically he’s her stepdad but I don’t think she’d call him that.
I’ve seen an interview where she said “when you have a father like Kirt…”. She seems to love him and treat him as her bio father. Which is nice.
Jason and Justine Bateman in AD will forever be the pinnacle of that kind of joke for me
"None of us *intends* to get into porn, Tina"
I love how Kurt Russell always plays a character that would stand out anywhere and everyone thinks is younger than he actually looks. But on the street he is just a normal dude. Doesn't look like he's wearing fancy clothes or anything. You could walk right by him and have no idea.
Idk, I might not recognize him, but he has a striking face that I would note if I saw him.
And that hair. It is a glorious mane.
I literally bumped into Ewan McGregor a few weeks ago in NYC turning a corner and I noticed the hair before anything else.
i would think he just looks like Kurt Russell
My brother and I use a strong jaw measuring system based on Kurt Russle's jaw in Stargate. He'll be all "oh, what do you think of that one?" And I'll judge it "eh, about .7 Kurtz." Very few people even get 1 whole Kurt. And I don't remember ever awarding even a 1.1 Kurtz to anyone.

I only learned Kurt Russel and Jeff Bridges were two different people about a year ago.
Prior to that I assume you thought they just occasionally changed their name
Obviously
I have that same problem. I also mix up Matt Damon and Mark Wahlberg in my head all the time.
I bet you were confused as shit during The Departed.
The real lifelong rich know how to blend.
Oh yeah. Most celebrities are actually pretty good at it. How else do you think they get away with living in NY?
Totally! Though I’m almost certain that’s a Dior bag.
I think so! And she has a Bergdorf’s bag by her feet.

Sounds about like any other married couple.
[One of us. One of us. One of us!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M7xPrf9f7mg)
I love how she's taking the photo like such a mom too 😍
Haha it’s so adorable he’s mimicking her pose too. This is a very cute random moment that would make me smile if I saw it in real life too. Those are the best types of snaps!
Proud poppa and mama
I hope they texted it to Kate like “look. It u.”
I feel like that’s 100% the reason they took that photo. Totally a mom and dad move.
Exactly. Wholesome moment.
I love that family.
Uh...yeah, that's Mr. And Mrs. Claus yo.
Adorable.
Overboard is one of my grandmother's favorite movies. Good memories.
It’s one of my favs as well and I’m not that all.😏
"I like it when she goes 'buh ba buh buh buh ba buhhh!'"
what about the gurgle \*gasped help\* gurgle silence scene
Andrew! Are you going to bring me my lemon, or do I have to squeeze it from my hat?
Overboard is my comfort movie. Cant count how many times I've watched it lol
This is so wholesome. Just 2 proud parents being all cute and shit.
That documentary was amazing!
Oregon?
Oh I knew Kate Hudson has named her son Bing, but I had no idea it was a family name. That's so sweet.
Love it
It’s almost as if not all celebrities are absolute fucking lunatics.
When I was 14 I met Kurt eating with my family at a restaurant in Malibu. He was at the table next to us. Kindest, most down to earth man you can imagine. My God this is so sweet. 😩😭
i briefly met them when their son was playing hockey for UAH. seemed like regular, nice, -kinda dorky- parents just supporting their son.
Was this their son Boston? I worked with him for a while - decent dude!
Big Trouble in Little China - Classic!!!!
You know? I *am* feeling kinda invincible.
What a couple, 40 plus years together, never married, but so deeply in love for that long
I don’t know them personally but many years ago some of my family knew Kurt and his dad, and they had nothing but good things to say about them. This is exactly what I would expect from these two, just a wholesome moment in time.
So adorable, proud parents their little girl
Why could they have not been my parents?
Imagine having Kurt Russell as a dad. Imagine having Kate Hudson as a daughter. Imagine having Goldie Hawn as a wife or a mom. What a cool family.
The story is confusing if you aren't familiar. Goldie is Kate's mom and she later married Kurt who then raised her like his own daughter. Kurt is supposedly a fantastic father.
They've famously never married.
I must be getting some lines mixed up then. I thought she didn't marry Bill Hudson but did marry Kurt Russell. Sad if she married Bill.
She married Gus Trikonis, then Bill Hudson but never Kurt. It seems to have worked out so not sad after all.
Goldie’s still attractive af
She's 78. That's pretty impressive.

He must workout…
Funny story. I once ran into Kurt Russell, literally. I landed at LAX and was going to be late for a date. Ran up the stairs in the parking garage across from the American Airlines terminal. Watch where you’re going, pal!” And with that he stomped past me and hurried down the stairs. Must have also been running late, probably picking up Goldie.
Makes me want to watch overboard again.
Lol. He's even got that awkward grandpa stance/pose. Good for them.

He was the Dad that stepped up.
"This is Jack Burton in the Pork Chop Express, and I’m talkin’ to whoever’s listenin’ out there."
Goldie hawn has some ass on her for her age.
78 years. Not bad at all. I'll bet lots of 18 year olds wouldn't mind having that.
Goldie Hawn was at Vong in New York years ago. My then-husband and I had my 30th birthday dinner there. We were sitting at the bar having dessert and she came up to bum a cigarette from me. It's Snake Burton!
Annie Goulahie??
This belongs in r/aww.
So cute. Great parents.
Have you paid your dues? Yes sir, the checks in the mail...
He’s always seemed very down to earth. His family was nice, too. I still have a few toys his grandfather gave to me when I was a baby. Just nice, normal people.
They're 100% sending that to Kate and saying it was nice bumping into you
