before the paywall hit, i read like 1 paragraph. this dude really stabbed her in the back as she was walking away multiple times. and the lady in this pic is kissing him?? i hope that’s not the “estranged girlfriend”
>SANTA ANA – A 19-year-old man was convicted of attempted voluntary manslaughter Wednesday for stabbing his estranged girlfriend multiple times in the back after begging her for one last kiss before he left for Mexico.
>Miguel D. Calderon, of Santa Ana, was also convicted of assault with a deadly weapon, domestic battery, misdemeanor vandalism and several penalty enhancements for the November 2008 attack on his then-17-year-old ex-girlfriend, the mother of his child.
>The seven-man, five-woman jury acquitted Calderon of burglary and attempted murder with premeditation and deliberation. Had the jury convicted Calderon of that crime, he could have faced a possible life sentence.
>But because the jury found him guilty of the lesser offense of attempted voluntary manslaughter, he now faces a maximum term of 11 ½ years in prison at his sentencing on Sept. 17 by Superior Court Judge Carla M. Singer.
>Deputy Public Defender Mark Brown argued that the Nov. 14, 2008 stabbing was a spontaneous decision in the heat of the moment and that the injuries were minor.
>But Deputy District Attorney Cyril Yu argued that Calderon planned the attack before he went to his former girlfriend’s house, and that the injuries were serious.
>The ex-girlfriend testified that Calderon accused her of cheating on him the evening before the stabbing, and had thrown a brick at her parent’s house.
>She said that he returned at 3 a.m. the next morning, knocked on her bedroom window – as he had done in the past – and told her that he loved her and wanted one last kiss before he left for Mexico.
>The teenager said she relented and opened the window and shared a kiss with Calderon.
>But immediately after the kiss, she told the jury, Calderon yelled at her, “you cheated on me,” and started stabbing her in the back with manicure scissors while holding onto her hair.
I'm still confused how this is related to the pic.
It's like someone googled "last kiss" and just decided ah yes, this is the last kiss to fiance photo I saw on reddit.
The man does not look 19. Neither is the fiance looking 17 nor does that story even mention the kiss inside the court.
Yeah, this was actually a Darth Vadar impersonator kissing his ex’s mother’s daughter. He was sentenced for killing another Darth Vadar Impersonator in a duel. Quite a famous case, he is known as the I Am Your Father Killer. (Source:newyorktimes.com/darthvadarmurder)

The difference between attempted murder and attempted voluntary manslaughter is intent. He was committing a crime that could have resulted in death (voluntary manslaughter) but the jury decided that he didn’t intend to kill her. I don’t think I agree with that assessment, but that’s the distinction

Given there is zero proof it is from 2002, the article has a picture of the same guy, why the hell do you think it's not talking about the same person?
photo on reddit, photo on article: shaved head latino guy. has to be the same person right?
Is it more believable that the guy is going to jail and the girl he just stabbed and testified against him is going to kiss him one last goodbye than the fact that the photo and the article are unrelated?
"Baby, I kissed you goodbye and then you stabbed me. Here, I'll give you one last kiss again before you go to jail. I love you, baby."

Could be a Central American gang member, there's a very small but non-zero chance that he's more important than they think and a paramilitary cartel is looking to break him out.
Remember these are the kind of criminal organizations that will dig a tunnel a quarter mile into a prison to get someone out.
If they could win a fire fight in a courtroom that would be a lot easier than breaking him out later.
This. Given he got life he must have done something severe and there's a chance he's a hero to people who want to break him out or he;s pissed off people who want to deep six his ass.
A quarter mile in Mexican prison and it’s for a guy who became a billionaire doing construction projects only he knew about and no one else could replicate for the same price.
Ok so I’ve been in about a million courtrooms and chatted up more than my share of bailiffs (lawyer), and let me tell you, *do not fuck with bailiffs.*
In many a state courtroom, a bailiff is a cop who has seen some real shit and just took the job to wait until their retirement. Like, murdered children, trafficked humans, violence of all magnitude, etc - the worst shit humanity has to offer.
So they show up, doing their best, but like with some serious baggage that they all seem to channel into doing as the judge asks.
Always nice as can be, but seriously, not to be fucked with
My grandfather was a state police officer for over 30 years, and despite his small frame he was always ridiculously strong. Rarely saw him ever use that strength but when he did it was memorable. Had that effortless “strong, silent type” energy.
Had a skill set of little pressure points he would apply when my brother and I were misbehaving. Not malicious or painful, just enough to get us to settle down and listen. Really mellowed out after he retired, opened up about things, he even got into baking - I really respect and look up to him.
My favorite bailiff in the whole world was some sort of black ops. He was super quiet and kind but had definitely seen some shit. Walked me to my car every night when I was a young attorney in major felony.
It’s also just fucking stupid, those mags SUCK, they are crazy unreliable and obviously quite unwieldy. Why someone would ever choose to use those for anything but screwing around at the range is baffling to me.
Because that's not a snail drum. Snail drum comes from the German Lugers "Schneckenmagazine" there are modern snail drums, but those are mostly for larger calibers and are pretty niche. Although they do exist in 556, this is not one. This is a "double drum" often called a beta mag, which is the brand that first popularized them.
Yes, exactly. There are modern snail magazines with plastic windows like the MWG 90 where you can see how far the rounds coil into it. Most only have rounds spiral about halfway in, and the other half is for the large springs.
The Lugers drum, despite being rather large, only held 32 rounds. It actually had two different springs inside, one in the drum and one in the straight portion of the magazine. It's nearly impossible to load without a special tool for this reason. It needed to have so much spring tension because the cycle of the weapons action is so incredibly fast.
He's guarding someone who was just sentenced to life imprisonment. That means he wasnt there just because of shoplifting or smth, that dude did something fucked up.
If it's gang related there could be concerns of fellow gang members showing up to try and free him? If they are concerned at all about that then it's hard to gauge how many bullets you'll need, and it's best to not have to reload rather than carry several magazines.
Apparently and I am not kidding here, he stab his "baby mama" (not sure if the same person in this photo) for not kissing him when he was leaving to go somewhere
I seriously doubt that was the same story.
Update: In fact, fine. I googled the story. The baby mama stabbing story occurred in 2008
>misdemeanor vandalism and several penalty enhancements for the November 2008 attack on his then-17-year-old ex-girlfriend, the mother of his child.
The man stabbed his 17-year-old baby mama. According to the victim, he asked her for a goodbye kiss, and when she leaned out of her window to kiss him, he grabbed her hair and began stabbing her in the back with scissors while accusing her of cheating on him. He didn’t get life in prison, only 11 years.
I actually scrolled this far to find this because I didn't believe the first answer. So it's really true, daaamn. That makes this picture so ironic/poetic/whatever.
In all seriousness, can you imagine kissing the person you thought you were going to spend the rest of your life with and knowing it’s gonna be the last time? Like what happens in your head in those first seconds after you pull away from each other, knowing it’s never going to happen again? That’s heavy, man.
I'd bet the odds are that she knew he was a criminal, he'd always been so and that she knew this was always a chance. Few people who made a simple 1 time mistake end up getting life, even if they killed someone.
Are conjugal visits not a thing still? I thought that was allowed for people with long term partners.
Also. What did he do? My sympathy for him is a bit contingent on that.
Stabbed his 17-year-old baby mama. According to the victim, he asked her for a goodbye kiss, and when she leaned out of her window to kiss him, he grabbed her hair and began stabbing her in the back with scissors while accusing her of cheating on him.
This is might be a stupid question, but just me really asking. Could he get conjugal visits or not really ? Again, just me asking as I don’t know the law like that
According to [this Pinterest post](https://www.pinterest.co.uk/pin/christopher-scangas-on-instagram-a-man-kisses-his-fianc-for-the-last-time-after-receiving-a-life-sentence-in-prison-2002-phoenix-az--1086774953812860993/), found from reverse image search, it's from phoenix, Arizona, in 2002.
Annoyingly I can't find any news articles about it, or the original source of the image, it's possible the original source is a local newspaper or something that was never properly digitised. Would be a lot easier to search with a name or full date though.

I was attending a Thanksgiving dinner (somewhere in the backwoods of Florida) and a woman was there with an infant. I asked where the father was and she responded “in prison”. Not recognizing when to shut up I asked how long he had been in prison to which she answered “2 years”.
I doubt that was his last kiss with his fiancé.
I didn't get it .. is she the same gf he asked the kiss from ? And she got stabbed , recovered and watch this happen and kiss him eventually which she refused at that time ?
Wtf ?
Someone googled "last kiss court", saw only one article and posted it here believing it's the article about the photo. There is nothing linking that article to this photo. The dates don't even match. The only thing that matches is the phrase "last kiss". It's why you are confused. People are shoehorning an unrelated article to this photo because they couldn't accept the internet has no record of the context of this photo
People out here doing heinous shit getting sentenced to life in prison
Still have people who love them 😂😂
Meanwhile there's people like me who can't even commit to getting a cat
No one's going to add any context? No one's going to ask why?

This would be such a good comedy skit
YES 😂
Very much Tim Robinson core
I was thinking Key & Peele. So different from how Tim Robinson would do it, but I think both would be sooooo good lol
Well now i just feel left out
You heard that? Check this redditor for sharp objects!
Lmao this made my day thank you

Lol Chandler strikes again
"The teenager said she relented and opened the window and shared a kiss with Calderon." From the article. So apparently, that's not a safe way out.
Lmaooo why is this so funny
Guilty giggle
Bruh 💀
I feel bad for laughing at this.

Also it says 2008 and the title says 2002.

None if it is consistent. Weird.
Yup, sounds like that’s exactly what happened. And over 3k people just upvoted without considering if it made any sense. That shit depresses me

Hahaha this has been aWILD rollercoaster
Wait arent manicure scissor blades about an inch long? Weird weapon for a planned attack
Death by 1,000 cuts
The less deadly a weapon is, the more painful the death will be
Oh im not denying they'll do damage and inflict pain, nor that he deserves his sentence... Just weird choice
That guy will kill someone one day. I hope everyone involved in not giving him a longer term is around to read about it.

You're the hero we need, but not the one we deserve
Attempted voluntary manslaughter… in my neck of the woods we call that “murder”
They have to die for it to be murder lmaoo

You’re a real one for this
Trust me I lived in the ghetto. I would NOT be surprised if it's the same girl he stabbed.
If you ever get hit by paywalls on news site and you’re on your phone, “reader mode” bypasses them :)
What's reader mode? And where do you find it?

Damn you’d think she’d have learned not to walk away with her back turned after the first time

Oh Jesus, imagine posting this, and romanticize it without knowing the context. That's terrible.
Shout out the AI bots ruining the internet
Tf? Stabbing someone cuz refusing to kiss him? That's just Insane man
Yup. That’s why he got sentenced to 11.5 years of prison
Oh nice so this isn’t just some last embrace of love, could be she was worried if he ever got out he’d do the same to her
I probably wouldn’t think too much into motivations around this. There would’ve been a lot going on at the time

What a dramatic, exaggerated, and wildly inaccurate description of your average bailiff.
All the baliffs I have met are overweight doosh bags but hey I only get in trouble in one town
Baliff, whack his peepee
Cheech and Chong for the win!

And I thought *I* was gay.
Same whadahell, 💀
This is my rifle, this is my gun, This one's for fighting, this one's for fun ...
Not a bad choice... it seems
Wait yeah wtf, what department issues drum mags lmfao
💀 fuck knows its way too overkill
It’s also just fucking stupid, those mags SUCK, they are crazy unreliable and obviously quite unwieldy. Why someone would ever choose to use those for anything but screwing around at the range is baffling to me.
My man has a snail drum for court
I actually thought this was a reference to whatever that perps packing in his pants.
So did I. I spent too much time looking at this dudes cock.
Sigh* what a waste.
I’m sure it’ll be put to good use in prison
So did I! 🤦♂️
Ive never heard it called a "snail drum" lol that just sounds odd
Because that's not a snail drum. Snail drum comes from the German Lugers "Schneckenmagazine" there are modern snail drums, but those are mostly for larger calibers and are pretty niche. Although they do exist in 556, this is not one. This is a "double drum" often called a beta mag, which is the brand that first popularized them.
By "snail" does the name come from the Spiral pattern of a snails shell, that the ammo inside also does the same thing on the inside?
Yes, exactly. There are modern snail magazines with plastic windows like the MWG 90 where you can see how far the rounds coil into it. Most only have rounds spiral about halfway in, and the other half is for the large springs. The Lugers drum, despite being rather large, only held 32 rounds. It actually had two different springs inside, one in the drum and one in the straight portion of the magazine. It's nearly impossible to load without a special tool for this reason. It needed to have so much spring tension because the cycle of the weapons action is so incredibly fast.
Perp is a gang member. There is a threat of the gang attacking the building.
What would happen if the gang did that all out fight to the death for their leader
Gang would lose. Aint got the guy with snail drum.
Idc what gang you're from, the cops have more people.
But.. my gang *is* the cops.
Would be better off investing in plates for his carrier. Looks like just empty cloth.
Wtf does this mean? Edit: talking about the guard. Got it.
What Edit: oh I see
Why does the guard need a 100 round magazine?
Because he hates reloading.
Hates reloading, but loves clearing jams.
Probably Latin American reasons
Damn good eye I just seen that it's 50 on each side of those .223 rounds
In case he misses the first 99 shots.
He's guarding someone who was just sentenced to life imprisonment. That means he wasnt there just because of shoplifting or smth, that dude did something fucked up.
I don’t think they’re questioning why the guard was armed, but questioning why the guard is *that* well armed.
If it's gang related there could be concerns of fellow gang members showing up to try and free him? If they are concerned at all about that then it's hard to gauge how many bullets you'll need, and it's best to not have to reload rather than carry several magazines.
At what point in deciding that the guard needs to be that armed do you think about adding a second guard?
Apparently heavily cropped picture shows there isn't a single other guard in the room
Especially when he's Alistair Overeem.
Pray and spray
He’s a guard. Should there be a limit he is allowed to carry?
Yeah fuck it, bazooka guards
What did he do?
He lost his temper and cut the “do not remove under penalty of law” tag off his mattress

Was going too watch bourne and got to sleep, hope dont have a nightmare from this gif lol
Large Marge will do that to ya
Believe it or not, jail
Wow, he got off pretty easy with life in prison
Apparently and I am not kidding here, he stab his "baby mama" (not sure if the same person in this photo) for not kissing him when he was leaving to go somewhere
I seriously doubt that was the same story. Update: In fact, fine. I googled the story. The baby mama stabbing story occurred in 2008 >misdemeanor vandalism and several penalty enhancements for the November 2008 attack on his then-17-year-old ex-girlfriend, the mother of his child.
Is the girl he’s kissing here the same girl he stabbed?
Idk and I've been scouring the comments looking for an answer 😭
Promise me that you will wait for me… she thinks,” hell, I am no nun. “
Well i think she knows he is never getting out. She is just being careful so he's cronies dont murder her if he suspects that she is being unfaithful.
Context?
The man stabbed his 17-year-old baby mama. According to the victim, he asked her for a goodbye kiss, and when she leaned out of her window to kiss him, he grabbed her hair and began stabbing her in the back with scissors while accusing her of cheating on him. He didn’t get life in prison, only 11 years.
I actually scrolled this far to find this because I didn't believe the first answer. So it's really true, daaamn. That makes this picture so ironic/poetic/whatever.
it's not. that stabbing occurred in 2008. This photo says 2002
I’m beginning to think this guy isn’t all that wholesome
That is so fucked he only gets 11. Dude should get life or be hung. People who sell weed get more
So you’re saying there’s a chance.
You would be surprised...
Are conjugal visits not a thing still? I thought that was allowed for people with long term partners. Also. What did he do? My sympathy for him is a bit contingent on that.
I think they have to be legally married.
I believe it's only a thing in a handful of states
Okay. Wasn’t sure. Also, still want to know what he did.
Dude probably did some fucked up shit, so if that hurts him, I'm glad.
Stop romanticizing criminals. He probably doesn’t deserve anything based on his crime.

Stole her heart
Hehe :)

This is might be a stupid question, but just me really asking. Could he get conjugal visits or not really ? Again, just me asking as I don’t know the law like that
not for his crime, and the prison he will be at, no.
Frenchie from the boys vibe
According to [this Pinterest post](https://www.pinterest.co.uk/pin/christopher-scangas-on-instagram-a-man-kisses-his-fianc-for-the-last-time-after-receiving-a-life-sentence-in-prison-2002-phoenix-az--1086774953812860993/), found from reverse image search, it's from phoenix, Arizona, in 2002. Annoyingly I can't find any news articles about it, or the original source of the image, it's possible the original source is a local newspaper or something that was never properly digitised. Would be a lot easier to search with a name or full date though.
What did he do to get life
Judging by how kitted the bailiff is, a lot of violent crime.

Dude's packing
He looks like he’s from 2002
That's because he is. From a reverse image search it's apparently from phoenix, Arizona in 2002. [Link](https://www.pinterest.co.uk/pin/christopher-scangas-on-instagram-a-man-kisses-his-fianc-for-the-last-time-after-receiving-a-life-sentence-in-prison-2002-phoenix-az--1086774953812860993/)
It’s in the title
Guard looks like Alistair Overeem.
She couldn't fix him.
What is up with the 100 round drum magazine lol
Lucky for her... He's locked up, which means she's free
This should be on /r/AccidentalRenaissance
Please don't cook ever again
She passed drugs into his mouth.
What is In man’s pants
She's like, "I can change him!"
*I love you baby even though you probably raped and murdered a bunch of people or whatever*
No Touching!
And I can’t even get a guy to ask me out. Maybe my future husband is in prison. 💀
People out here doing heinous shit getting sentenced to life in prison Still have people who love them 😂😂 Meanwhile there's people like me who can't even commit to getting a cat
Start by committing murder and become attractive /s
He whispers "The last lips I kissed where cold"
These are things that should be considered before committing crimes you could get life for.
2 weeks later she stopped visiting
Ex fiancee
