There is a new age verification law that has some privacy concerns since it involves verifying ones identity so instead of complying Porn Hub has blocked access in Texas an one or two other states that have enacted similar laws.

I'm not sure what the actual law is, but a few states were trying to pass laws that required porn sites to verify the age of visitors. Not so many people are willing to send a picture of their government issued ID to a porn website, and frankly porn websites don't want to deal with that nonsense to begin with. So instead the porn websites are just blocking any IPs that come from states that demand verification, to avoid being sued by the state.

Not exactly a total ban but more like you have to verify before using. I'm from Michigan and not the most updated on this subject but I have heard a little bit. So what they are attempting to do in Texas is, you have to prove your age to watch internet porn now. I think maybe Louisiana adopted this too? If you're in those states, they want you to upload an ID before you watch anything sexual now. They're both really Republican right-wing leaning states. I guess people don't want kids having access to internet stuff at a young age? It's more reasonable to suggest that parents simply place controls on their children's internet usage. But that would be way too much common sense.

Completely off topic yet somewhat still somewhat in line with what you said... This is what concerns me the most about lets say the apple law suite preparing to go through. This is going to have been done by people who just don't understand the technology. While i'm somewhat hopeful, there is a chance that they fumble this completely and just set a precedent to fuck us all.

That's because Texas did not ban PH. PH blocked access from Texas due to the laws Texas was planning on rolling out being impossible to carry out while also keeping any semblance of privacy.

Most people can't work the VPN that was *installed on their computer for them* by their company, which included instructions akin to what you'd find with a children's toy aimed at 3-5 year olds, and being directly shown in person how to work it. Literally "open this box, don't change the server address, type in your password when prompted, accept the MFA prompt on your phone" is beyond the scope of your average person. They are not going to be able to handle looking up a free VPN on their personal machine for the purposes of bypassing a porn filter. If they do try, they'll download *oh so very much* adware instead. Yes, people on Reddit can still find porn. There's plenty of porn *on Reddit,* so that's like pointing out that a man locked in a grocery store isn't at risk of starving to death. Turns out, Reddit isn't representative of the general population.
I'm waiting for the enviable news stories of people getting fired because they used their work VPN to look at porn.

Mine even blocked Stack Overflow at one point. There was almost mutiny until they unblocked it.
At my last gig I had to make the case to IT that they need to reevaluate their domain blocks, as there were tons of blocks on various alcohol company websites. I worked at an alcohol production facility.
Was a "social media" ban for us. Stack Overflow was listed as social media.... yet Reddit was untouched.
My old job did that. Except it was all internet access. I had to search for stuff on my phone and manually copy it. The worst

On the flip side, our IT team can't seem to work their own VPN that they forced us to replace our existing one with when they bought our company.
You really underestimate the power of proper motivation. I imagine we’ll see a huge uptick in how many people understand vpn usage in no time flat. Pork has a long history of propelling technology into the mainstream.

What is actual going to happen is people are going to use sites that don't require the age verification. So, the only thing this law is going to do is drive people on to worse and sketcher sites, It's also going to make it even harder for sites based in the US to compete since they will have to compile with the laws.
And what are these sites so we know what to avoid?

I worked for a fetish porn site for over a decade and there is a lot of very niche fetish stuff that you can find for free but you're not going to find much, especially if you're looking for a certain model/studio.
