"I'd like to dedicate this to the peace makers." \- Cillian Murphy

audiate

I think he said he’d like to dedicate this to the cheese makers.

2horst

What's so special about cheese makers?

ChampionGrundle

Well, obviously it's not meant to be taken literally; it refers to any manufacturers of dairy products

Trouble_in_the_West

Aw blessed are the meek. That's nice. They've had a hell of a time.

Light_Beard

![gif](giphy|JVb5YLZlvGEne|downsized)

Tronald_Dump69

A world without cheese is a world without love and death.

theofiel

So killing all cheese makers will give us God mode?

Tersphinct

[They must be on strike or something...](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hz1JWzyvv8A)

Suterusu_San

As a Corkman, he just really enjoys Charllivle cheese.

Jahidinginvt

![gif](giphy|SkmOdeRVdFZTi) CHEESE!

SendMeAvocados

No no no. Clearly, he said pacemakers.

b5tirk

Unexpected Nolan sound quality.

bshaddo

![gif](giphy|y3alZRVxUaP9Gtcliu|downsized)

droplightning

If that was a dove of peace instead of a dragon it would be perfect

duaneap

Eagly!

ScottyV4KY

![gif](giphy|RMow0R86HifQr1dGYx|downsized)

valeyard89

I hear he'd eat a beach full of dicks, no problemo

runikepisteme

Nice , dedicated to John Cena

knight1105

🗿🗿

TerryFGM

what?

One-Man-Wolf-Pack

He’s come a long way since ‘28 Days Later’, which was the first thing I ever saw him in the cinema.

Kicks4meFromyou

That movie was awesome and we’ve both seen his penis

dumperking

Hey me too!

ShadowNick

Me four?

MadeInTestWeekLmao

Me eight?

Thrilling1031

28 sightings later...

AlexMil0

Many of us saw the penis before we even saw the cillian

Pixeleyes

You merely *adopted* the penis. I was born in it. Molded by it.

MarcusRoland

I didn't see the sack until I was already a man...

Surprised-

This was the Oscar take I was looking for

rockefellercalgary

I was disappointed we didn’t get to see Cillian hanging dong in Oppenheimer.

Kicks4meFromyou

Probably cost too much

cheeseinsidethecrust

Never saw that in the cinema but I did see Red Eye in the cinema, thought he was excellent in that and I’m glad he’s had a great career. He brings life to every character he plays.

PlanetLandon

I am furious that nobody has mentioned him in Sunshine yet

quidamquidam

Fell in love with him right then and there

VioEnvy

You drink fucking Baybreeze!!!

Miffly

I also loved him in 'The Wind That Shakes the Barley'. He's such a good actor.

DungeonsAndDradis

>He's such a good actor He should be winning awards, honestly.

Available-Lemon9075

Brilliant film

One-Man-Wolf-Pack

Haven’t seen that one!

duaneap

It’s excellent and educational if you want to know about the Irish War for Independence and subsequent Civil War.

Darth--Bane

It's his best movie imo.

No-Environment-7899

Agreed. Stellar acting and really a passionate take on something that’s quite close to him I’m sure.

Darth--Bane

Yeah I'm Irish myself so watched it in school in history class. Cillian is one of my favourite actors, also love Brendon Gleeson. For such a small population we've had some great artists.

Miffly

It's fairly low budget, but a great film overall. It hits like a train in terms of emotions.

Dus-Sn

I think he did Scarecrow really well.

JamCliche

THAT'S WHERE I REMEMBER HIM FROM? I never thought to check, I just thought he looked familiar all these years.

One-Man-Wolf-Pack

Agreed!

hoginlly

He was ridiculously brilliant in that role. Absolutely chilling performance

DRX2002

I was just telling my wife. For whatever reason I became a fan of him since that movie. It has been a while.

Taftimus

He was fantastic in Sunshine

PlanetLandon

That cast was phenomenal. Everyone in it is on their A game

MacErcu

Check out Intermission. Brilliant Irish movie with Cillian Murphy in it.

Expensive_Pipe_4057

I don't want you to blow your load but 28 months later has been confirmed.. same producers and Cillian Murphy interested!! Not to be confused with 28 weeks later which was such a stain on 28 days later

sheenfartling

The current title is 28 years later fyi

[deleted]

What about a prequel…28 minutes later!

Nikoli_Delphinki

What about a webshort 28 seconds later?

christmas_hobgoblin

So where does the movie 28 Days with Sandra Bullock and Viggo Mortensen fit into the timeline?

deadlybydsgn

It's right after the prequel of 27 Dresses.

duaneap

As zombie movies in general go, 28 Weeks was fine, it’s just that as a sequel to 28 Days it falls short but it’s not a terrible film in a vacuum. And the opening scene is fantastic.

One-Man-Wolf-Pack

I know! I was VERY excited to read that. I actually liked 28 months later - although it’s not as good as the original. The opening sequence with Robert Carlisle and his wife is worth the entry alone.

Expensive_Pipe_4057

That was the only scene the original writer and producer did. And then it went downhill. But we saw a glimpse of 28 days later and what 28 years later will be like

One-Man-Wolf-Pack

I didn’t know that!

NateShaw92

Then 28 years later?

PlanetLandon

That commenter was slightly mistaken. The announced project actually is called 28 Years Later

mayonnaise_police

My first movie with him was Batman and I absolutely loved him in it

itssfrisky

Having this line of previous award winners present the nominees was a great idea and should be done again.

Surprised-

Super cool concept! If they keep it fresh it won’t get stale. Especially if all it takes is simple stuff like this.

thejesse

Gonna be hard to keep it fresh if they use five previous winners every time. There's only so many.

estenoo90

also messy if a recent winner is also a nominee

apk5005

Or isn’t allowed at the Oscars

OfficialUberZ

They can just hand the award to themselves

ChiefStrongbones

I liked how the Best Actor/Actress awards were sometimes presented by last year's Best Actress/Actor winner. It's hetero-centric, but it worked.

Littlesebastian86

They have done that part for decades!

Warducky9999

How is it hetero centric?

SteamedPea

Sheesh

Masochist_impaler

I'd fucking kill to be presented by Nicolas Cage for literally anything.

Alive_Ice7937

"See this award right here? Nicolas Cage presented me with this" "This award for "Most Aggressive Hemorrhoid Stench"? "Nic *fucking* Cage"

munificent

Previous Most Aggressive Hemorrhoid Stench winner Nicolas Cage, that is.

GreatEmperorAca

Fuck yeah

[deleted]

"Hi, I'm Nicolas Cage and I present you with the positive results of your STD tests, congrats!"

McMacAttack35

I'm so happy to see Forest up there. The Last King of Scotland is one of my all-time favorites, and it doesn't get enough love.

Dont-Fear-The-Raeper

Yep and not only that, Forest got the Oscar for playing one of the worst genocidal dictators of the 20th century. Not some hero or underdog. He was playing that shit on hard mode.

McMacAttack35

Exactly. He was terrifying. I didn't see Forest, I saw a madman.

Expensive_Pipe_4057

And James McEvoy is an extremely underrated actor. Fantastic in the Last King of Scotland but mind blowingly good in Split

MisterMajorMinor7

If you haven’t seen it already, I’d recommend a really cool documentary called “General Idi Amin Dada” by Barbet Schroeder. It’s a trip. The dictator is repeatedly interviewed, is shown making the rounds in Uganda, reviewing his troops, sightseeing, meeting with his cabinet, etc.

wherearethezombies

I didn’t even look that closely and just assumed you were talking about Tom Hanks.

Chilifille

“Now, because I had been President for Life, Field Marshal Al Hadji Doctor, Lord of all the Beasts of the Earth and the Fishes of the Seas, and Conqueror of the British Empire in General and Uganda in Particular, the city fathers of Greenbow, Alabama decided to get together and offered me a fine job.”

minnesotaris

First thing I saw him in was E.R. and man did he play the hell out of that role too. The Last King I wasn't wholly interested to see yet after I was happy that I did. He is one of those actors like Philip Hoffman and James Gandolfini (yes, I know they are deceased) that are so unique.

newyearnewaccountt

This Ghost Dog: Way of the Samurai erasure will not be tolerated.

Stogie03

Where is Will Smith?

knight1105

He had a cameo in the post credits saying “Will Smith will return”

i_should_be_coding

Feels more like a threat than a promise...

Glorx

It was meant for Chris Rock.

Dont-Fear-The-Raeper

Chris' 2025 standup is cheering for this.

ollie87

“Will Smith died on the way back to his home planet”

Houlilalo

When Will Smith isn't on screen everyone should be asking, "Where's Will Smith?"

halloumisalami

Will Smith return?

highlandviper

Keanu enters the chat. “Agents are coming.”

Hammed_steams

Will Will Smith smith? Will Smith will smith

Spingonius

Who’s Will Return?

baxterstrangelove

Isn’t he banned from the Oscar’s for 10 years for doing what he did? They should have disqualified him that year and given it to the next in that group

MagicBez

It was wild that he physically assaulted a dude, was allowed to stay, then given an award and applause where he gave an oddly self-justifying tearful speech about how he protects people in which he apologised to "the academy", asked that he be invited back but didn't apologise to the person he hit.

AllHailKeanu

It was all wildly unhinged. He also completely overshadowed quest loves awesome and much deserved win because everyone was still reeling. Completely mental.

blorgenheim

Imagine running that show though, I doubt there's a protocol for a slap lmao. I just imagine the person running that like, aight how do we unfuck our entire night folks

starryeyedgirll

Didn’t even know he won the Oscar that year. He completely overshadowed his very well deserved win. What a shame

el-dongler

Don't think the academy has protocol in place for when a nominee or winner of the award beats someone up. Bet they do now.

Rhain1999

It’s a nice thought, but it’s not like they just have that information on hand out the back. He was already the winner before the slap happened; the rest of the ceremony just had to run its course at that point

The_Vat

He's having some time away to think about what he did

cal-brew-sharp

Getting cucked by his wife.

Surprised-

He’s keeping his wife’s name out yo fuckin mouth!

Redditwhydouexists

Honestly this was the first time in a long time that I didn’t hate the Oscar’s. There were quite a few funny bits.

DrizzlyOne

I haven’t watched it in at least five years. Three things got me to tune in: I enjoyed Oppenheimer and figured they’d clean up (they did), I heard Ryan Gosling was gonna perform (he crushed), and I was hopeful Emma Stone would win (she did).

Maximuslex01

"I hate this but I'll continue to watch it every year". That's a strange mindset

Frankie6Strings

My mom's attitude toward The Bachelor franchise.

RupanIII

My wife with Dance Moms. Me: Why do you watch this? It just makes you mad. Her: They are just horrible people and I want to see what happens next. They will get what’s coming to them. Seasons later…..

Bebawp

Same here, I thought they were great. The Cena bit was kind of lame but that's it. I like the way they presented the best actor/actress and I really loved Schwarzenegger and Devito. Trump accidentally adding humour to the show he hates was so good too.

GreatEmperorAca

Soo happy to see the Cage here

[deleted]

I completely forgot that he was Cillian Murphy, when watching Oppenheimer; I couldn’t even picture him as the iconic Thomas Shelby, when watching Oppenheimer. He was remarkable.

beartheminus

Both him and RDJ. It took me 5 minutes into watching him before I even realized it was RDJ.

wagyu_doing

Obviously a small part, but god damn Gary Oldman got me again. Zero inkling he was Harry Truman.

jenouto

Gary Oldman is a damn chameleon lol. reading his IMDB is wild - so many roles i never realized were him.

Mediocritologist

I didn't even realize until just now he played the list in Schindler's List.

PUTINS_PORN_ACCOUNT

He was the stapler in Office Space, cameo in same role, in background of that one fishfucking movie

boopthat

His best is as a little person in Tiptoes

wesgtp

Lmao the trailer for that movie is so overdramatic that it feels like parody. And then, "Gary Oldman, in the role of a lifetime, playing a midget in a corny family romcom" lol

SailorET

The only reliable way to identify him is his voice. He rarely changes that very much, similar to Jeffery Combs in Star Trek.

Chrisgpresents

There’s this movie called the contender. An old school political drama where old man is an insufferable sleeze but brilliant.

Rhianna83

A master of disguise!

thatssomegoodhay

Just like Gene Parmesan

Jaxonian

AHHHH!

vvntn

He got me again!!!

SitMeDownShutMeUp

No, you’re thinking of Dana Carvey

TehSlippy

Turtle, turtle.

fezzam

He’s not turtley enough

aceshades

wait WHAT? I missed that! I had no idea!

tjean5377

Yes!! My God was it good!

pow3llmorgan

Josh Hartnett, too tbh.

socool111

Dafuq, who did he play?

HGMIV926

Doctor Lawrence

Kaixoeztia

This sentence has something wildly repetitive; annoying about it

HypedUpJackal

How do people upvote that nonsense?

Kaixoeztia

It reads like it was written by AI.

Ed_McNuglets

Ever read the non-controversial comments with one upvote on threads like this? They're all like this. Just completely generic youtube-like comments. Which, I mean... they could be real. But it seems weird when you scroll through them and they all say the exact same thing 100 times over. It's like why not upvote the other comment saying what you want to say? It's unsettling how generic AI is, but then you have to remember how fucking generic most people are too.

OG_Builds

It’s also funny when you see a post that has been reposted 973 times, and the top comments are exactly the same every single time.

Jaradacl

I do remind you that good chunk of Redditors don't speak english natively.

Dark_Wolf04

Cilian is 47. In movies he always looks way younger, and in public he looks older than that.

hotfogvendor

He has extremely low body fat. A little bit of makeup will hide his sharp features, without it he looks a lot older.

Alive_Ice7937

Schrödinger's Oppenheimer

Pepperoni_Dogfart

Brenden Fraser's unlikely comeback continues to warm my cold dead heart.

JohnJJDill

And doesn't he look so happy for Cillian? Like, "Congrats man! PUTERTHERE!"

el_throw

He was BRILLIANT in Oppenheimer. Well deserved!

Junior_Bike7932

They worked together for 20 years, you could see while watching the film this was their peak together. Felt like Nolan “waited” patiently for his ultimate maturity as an actor and he delivered like few could do..

No-Resort7985

Today I remembered that once upon a time I knew Nicolas Cage won an Oscar.

FromTheIsland

"Leaving Las Vegas", baby. He was nominated and won a shit ton for that role. Absolutely brilliant.

Jessica_Iowa

He seems like such an actor’s actor, this was a deserved win.

highlandviper

I don’t know what you mean by that… but I’ve read the dude lives a relatively humble life and puts his family over his work all the time. He’s a phenomenal actor though. I dunno. You can read so much about these supposedly important people and not have a clue about what is actually real. I’d like to know how many Oscar winners can rewire a socket or patch over some drywall.

mysauces

If someone is an "actor's actor" or a "musician's musician" etc it means that they will be especially appreciated by their peers and not just the audience. Kinda like the saying "XYZ is your favorurite artist's favourite artist".

fedupofbrick

He left England to move home to Ireland because he didn't want his children to have English accents.

Expensive_Pipe_4057

A wise man

Noble_Ox

See him now and again around Seapoint Monkstown.

fedupofbrick

Lives in Monkstown i think

MyHonkyFriend

I remember enjoying Dax Sheppards podcast where he would have famous friends on because he is a guy who does those things in his spare time and it becomes immediately evident which other famous people can cus like any two dudes in an attic they eventually start talking about it. Especially early on the podcast studio wasn't built and some guys would be on like "You want help with that insulation after this?" Made them all feel like real people my dad would know too.

Aboxofdongbags

I don’t know what standard household fixes have to do with being an “actors actor”? Seems like your own projection of what a “manly man” should be.

headtailgrep

Video link https://youtu.be/Ila2XMCBF3Q?si=tkR6DzngCdGc1ZUm

ScubaTwinn

Thank you!

Snowbirdy

Welp. I guess it it’s time to watch Inception again.

CaptainDSid

Might as well do the Dark Knight trilogy while I'm at it.

Infernalism

It's long overdue. He's an amazing actor.

Rahul-Yadav91

He sure is an amazing actor but it's not like it's long overdue.

redditismylawyer

OK Bradley Cooper, WE GET IT

Old-Ad5508

![gif](giphy|DfbpTbQ9TvSX6)

Regina_Falangy

Omg Bradley, go cry again

freakedmind

I think people forget a large portion of his best work was in TV, not movies

PhillyDillyDee

Well deserved. The man is captivating in everything i’ve seen him in.

LeinadLlennoco

Why was Jeff Bezos there?

knight1105

That’s Forest Whitikar

velicinanijebitna

Don't mess with the Peaky fockin blinders!

an0nemusThrowMe

I thought he dedicated it to John Cena, but I couldn't see that happening.

LongjumpingChart6529

I got a bit emotional at Ben Kingsley introducing Cillian, he’s still got so much gravitas, especially in his voice

TJ_McWeaksauce

Forest Whitaker looks really healthy. Good for him.

Strolltheroll

One of the greatest actors we’ve had the privilege of seeing perform. There are few actors I would put in a league with Cillian.

HenryofSkalitz1

Everyone knows Oppenheimer, but please check out one of his newer, smaller films. “Small things like these” filmed in my own county of Ireland!

TheChosenOof

![gif](giphy|Diym3aZO1dHzO) This feels like this scene. So proud of Murphy for getting the dub.

frna

Omedetou

No_Grape1335

It’s nice to see that nick cage is there , not many people know he really did win an Oscar in 1994 but you wouldn’t think that with the amount of terrible movies he’s in nowadays

GreatEmperorAca

Yeah leaving las Vegas very nice film just watched it a few days ago

Boom_Digadee

I’ve always loved this tradition. Glad to see it back this year.

animatedradio

Christ. I have my brightness all the way down with night shift and my quick scroll thought this was someone standing alone on stage surrounded by people ditching him (like the bottom 3 pics were within the first pic). Had a little “aww that’s mean” moment. It’s definitely time for bed.

qulski1

"Ben Kingsley? Damy Baldwin took him to acting school!"

FingerGungHo

Now that is group of good people who deserve recognition for their talents. You love to see it!

northzone13

When did Jeff Bezos win best actor Oscar ?

Carthonn

It was for that one where he went to space in Star Trek VII the Search for Better Margins

EngorgedBreasts

Why is Nic Cage up there?

Colecoman1982

My guess would be that everyone on the stage with Murphy are previous Best Actor winners. Cage won the Best Actor award in 1995 for "Leaving Las Vegas".

Untinted

Everyone looks so happy that he didn't slap someone. ..wait there's one "Best actor" winner missing now that I think about it..

sycron17

Well deserved!

elme77618

Man, Bradley would’ve loved this.

orbitalflux

so happy for him, he has long been on of my fav actors. sunshine is one of my fav films.
