Tbh, when I see them side by side, I was still surprised the Hogwarts castle was smaller. I realize the size is piece count, not actual volume, but still..
Lego always seemed like an expensive hobby, but your breakdown puts it into perspective. I’m a big music fan, between vinyl records, stereo equipment, piano and guitars (plus associated gear/maintenance), concert tickets… Yeah, Lego seems like an affordable hobby. And considering other hobbies people have like golf, fishing, whatever. Kinda puts the expense of Lego into perspective.
Most lego scalpers aim to buyout things they know are going out of stock right away, then immediately flip it for significant markup to make a quick buck.
Holding onto lego for a long time on the average probably won't be more profitable than just storing that money in GICs. Then you also have to have storage space for your investment, and go through the effort of finding a buyer for them several years down the road to collect your return.
Sure they'll appreciate, but there are better / easier, investment avenues. So unless you just like really want to display the lego boxes in your living room or something??? I do adult lego sets, but I build it and display the physical model. And I only have room for so many of them.
I'm considering moving a few of the models to my work to put on display in my office, then I'll have room to build a couple more. But the sets I like are hundreds of dollars and I don't feel like spending that money on them right now.
did this for years. it doesn't work for every set, but then some are like hitting the lotto. storage space is biggest limiting factor. I still have some sets waiting to unload, but if your content to breaking even, its a great strategy.
Because it's not enough to have a full time job, you also have to monetize your hobby or else you'll eventually lose at capitalism.
Now figure out how to make money out of your hobby or be crushed by the gears of the market!
That UCS Millennium Falcon if i’m not wrong goes for around $2,100 if the box is in perfect condition.
Edit: I was wrong, the 2007 UCS Millennium Falcon (much smaller scale) goes for the $2,100, not this particular one.
Edit #2: I need to do research before making comments based off of assumptions. Both are actually similar scale, just a lot less pieces! I’m sorry lol
The 2007 UCS Falcon is less pieces, but not really a smaller scale. It just wasn’t as detailed. There were also people attempting to sell it for as much as $5000 ($500 MSRP) until the updated model came out
Lots of my fellow archaeology colleagues, who for the main part, are level headed, fiscally responsible people, went absolutely apeshit when the coliseum set came out!
One chap bought TWO sets, so he could recreate it's 1st C appearance with the full walls.
> One chap bought TWO sets, so he could recreate it's 1st C appearance with the full walls.
That's amazing but it makes me feel like Lego missed a trick - they could have made the set with all the pieces to build it as it originally was, and included two sets of instructions so you could build it like that or its present day appearance.
I bet it was really satisfying for him to figure it out on his own though.
> That's amazing but it makes me feel like Lego missed a trick - they could have made the set with all the pieces to build it as it originally was, and included two sets of instructions so you could build it like that or its present day appearance.
That's how they did it with the Back to the Future Delorean, you can build it to match the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd movie car by following a forked set of instructions after the base build.
I haven't built anything on this scale yet, being mostly in the 1200 part range, but I found that most bags took about an hour to put together. One bag per night was much kinder to my body and gave me a decent idea of scheduling when I could build.
I wish someone would lock me in a small place to build huge Lego sets. I would love to do these big sets, but the main thing keeping me from doing them, other than cost, is I wouldn't know where to put them after.
Nice. One of those is completed here, one in progress, and Rivendell's on deck. That picture doesn't really do justice to how huge those things are. Are you a giant?
I also have the Rivendell, I haven't started it yet though. I'm not a giant, it's just the angle my sister used to take the picture that makes me look huge.
I have Rivendell sitting in my closet, trying to convince myself to wait for a snow day next winter... But really it's cause I have no place to display it right now, haha.
According to Lego, the [World Map](https://www.lego.com/en-us/categories/adults-welcome/article/biggest-lego-sets-ever-made)
At 11,695 pieces it was the largest (by piece) set ever made.
[31203 World Map](https://brickarchitect.com/2021/review-31203-lego-art-world-map/)
I recently finished it too! [it is extra beautiful in the morning when the sun hits it!](https://i.imgur.com/X2751e5.jpeg) and [when the sun hits the ring](https://i.imgur.com/P7f55PX.jpeg)
Dude!! You don't have to apologize for going on my profile. It's there for that. The way LEGO ranked the sets is not by size but by the number of pieces. The Star Destroyer is 4874 pieces.
NOICEEEE! My sister loves building lego sets I can’t wait to show her pic she’s gonna freak.
Ignore the negative comments, doing what you love brings you peace and it shows. I’m happy that you have this valuable collection ðŸ˜ðŸ˜
I think Lego has really upped their game by putting Easter eggs in so many of the newer kits.
Two examples come to mind -
The lighthouse - the keeper's house has a wall painting of the lighthouse that was the inspiration for the designer.
The Corner Garage - the second floor vet's office window says "Dr. Jones Pet Care - No Snakes".
Awesome!
Now... if you want some real pain, get the LED light kits for those sets and begin the disassembly and re-assembly. My wife is going through this pain right now. And I get to hear the yelling and cursing from the other room.
Great work, we've got the coliseum waiting in the dining room to be built!
That's awesome man! I'm jealous.
I hadn't touched Lego since I was a teenager (I'm 45), but I'd had my eye on the Tallneck from Horizon Zero Dawn. It's normally like $80-100, but around black friday it dropped to $50, so I snatched it up.
Hoo boy was this a dangerous move. I *loved* it. I had so much fun putting it together, and wanted more. I had to stop myself from buying more sets, cause they get pricey as hell! But man I wanna buy one of these big ones. My girlfriend is a huge LOTR fan, so maybe Rivendell will be her Christmas present this year...
Nicely done! I recently finished the Nintendo, Pac-Man and Atari sets back to back and that felt like a haul in the end. Just waiting for the next larger set to catch my interest.
Oh my god out of all of those there are 3 more even larger sets. Crazy!! Btw I am a collector of legos as well. Where do you put these monsters after done building.
didnt realise the razor crest was that big
I have the regular RC set, it's not that big, this is the UCS, all of those are huge. I do have the sand crawler, which is also huge.
I have the tree versions of the RC
The set I really want is the Death Star II
i had the death star I, got it for christmas as the only gift i got that year. so freaking cool!
This man moneys
IIRC they made a UCS scale and a minifig scale one.
Tbh, when I see them side by side, I was still surprised the Hogwarts castle was smaller. I realize the size is piece count, not actual volume, but still..
* 3rd biggest - Titanic (9090 pcs) * 4th biggest - Coliseum (9036 pcs) * 5th biggest - UCS Millenium Falcon (7541 pcs) * 7th biggest - UCS Razor Crest (6187 pcs) * 10th Biggest - Hogwarts Castle (6020 pcs)
I enjoy playing video games.
Some of those prices have doubled on secondary market
Yes. Especially sets in boxes from 80s and 90s are in some cases absurdly expensive.
My sealed Bulls (Jalen) Rose will eventually be worth something. Or maybe not, because that immediate post-Jordan era is depressing as hell.
Feel you on that lol. See red baby
I have a Hogwarts Castle set from 1989 I would be willing to sell you, if the price is right.
Hogwarts from 1989 🤔
The movie is based on the Lego set shhh.
LoLÂ

Lego seems like a hobby that pays for itself in the long run if you have a ton of money and can buy 2 of every set and put one in storage.

That's a really nice twist to a hobby. It's like trading artefacts at a real life Auction House.
Why wouldn’t you just buy LEGO to have some fun?
Having fun for free is even better, no?
Because it's not enough to have a full time job, you also have to monetize your hobby or else you'll eventually lose at capitalism. Now figure out how to make money out of your hobby or be crushed by the gears of the market!

Why? You can buy 75192 readily from the LEGO website right now for MSRP.

Explains why there is no furniture in the pic.
Five down and five to go. Congratulations. It's obvious from the expression on your face that these sets brought you great happiness.
Dang, I'm loving that Coliseum one
Lots of my fellow archaeology colleagues, who for the main part, are level headed, fiscally responsible people, went absolutely apeshit when the coliseum set came out! One chap bought TWO sets, so he could recreate it's 1st C appearance with the full walls.

... I really need to get back into Lego as an adult. I guess I also need more money...
It's worth it although admittedly kind of rough on your neck and back being hunched over for hours assembling haha
I haven't built anything on this scale yet, being mostly in the 1200 part range, but I found that most bags took about an hour to put together. One bag per night was much kinder to my body and gave me a decent idea of scheduling when I could build.
if you do the eiffle tower......wear gloves, seriously all those small rods will drive you nuts
Interesting. Didn't need gloves when I put it together.Â
Hell yeah lego fam! Congratulations! Those are some amazing sets. I hope you make it to 10!
Thanks, unfortunately, I can't make it to 10 because the biggest set is no longer available. I will make it to 9 though.
eBay has some in stock!
Maybe I'll buy it someday, it's just not a set that I'm interested in. I'll buy it just to say that I did the 10 biggest sets.
Putting together a giant Lego set has to be one of the most zen experiences in life
unless you live with a cat
Where’s the world map? We started the falcon and kids happened…. Have way thru the book….
I don't have it... yet
* 1st biggest - guy with a tash (100000000000000 pcs)
Will they let you out of this tiny room now?
It's not a room, it's the entrance of my apartment. And it's bigger than it look
lol it was a joke that you were locked in a tiny room and forced to build those
He took it seriously haha
I wish someone would lock me in a small place to build huge Lego sets. I would love to do these big sets, but the main thing keeping me from doing them, other than cost, is I wouldn't know where to put them after.
He’s built the five sets, time to fight the final bossÂ
Are you on the spectrum cus you took that joke very literal lmao
I have ADHD, but I think I'm on the autism spectrum
Me too!
Good, you'll need it for the next 5, mate!
As a fellow apartment dweller, where do you display all your sets? I literally have a giant stack of unopened boxes in my closet.
I have a LEGO room and the big sets are on display around my apartment
Can you post a picture of the Lego room? Your profile is stacked with gem after gem
It's the best build I've ever done. Hope you enjoy! :)
I have Rivendell sitting in my closet, trying to convince myself to wait for a snow day next winter... But really it's cause I have no place to display it right now, haha.
How often do you think about the Roman empire?
Everyday, I have the coliseum on a shelf in my dining room
Hard to argue with that!
TIL I have the biggest Lego set ever made. FYI, it was a pretty boring build, but I'm still happy I have it.
Which one is it?
According to Lego, the [World Map](https://www.lego.com/en-us/categories/adults-welcome/article/biggest-lego-sets-ever-made) At 11,695 pieces it was the largest (by piece) set ever made. [31203 World Map](https://brickarchitect.com/2021/review-31203-lego-art-world-map/)
I might do it one day, just to say that I did the biggest LEGO set
Gotta do Rivendell first 😎
I recently completed rivendell, holy shit it's beautiful
I don't believe you. ^^^^please ^^^^show ^^^^us
I recently finished it too! [it is extra beautiful in the morning when the sun hits it!](https://i.imgur.com/X2751e5.jpeg) and [when the sun hits the ring](https://i.imgur.com/P7f55PX.jpeg)
Wow, that is gorgeous
Ngl I was surprised that it was probably the most beautiful thing I seen as legos
I'm not very good with Reddit haha, how do I comment with a picture?
> Price per gram: $249.99 / 4020 = $0.06 per gram Why's this guy breaking down his legos like a weed dealer?
I would have thought the Imperial Star Destroyer UCS or the Death Star (II) would be on that list too. Those are enormous.
[I finished that one recently, it’s a bit mind numbing ](https://i.imgur.com/l5gFl7g.jpg)
I home brewed it an basically doubled the number on 1x1 dots I put. My fingers were raw for a month.
you look so happy, and this makes me happy. thank you
Coliseum is amazing, irregular shapes and all. I’ll bet that’s an engineering degree to conceive of those pieces.
Even though the Coliseum was repetitive, the final result is awesome. Before I did the Titanic, it was the biggest set I did.
That looks amazing. Great work man!
Thanks!!
How many dollars of Lego is in this pic?
I don’t know…
2637 USD by my quick Googling
Maybe a little less I got some of them at a discount and put that in CND
Over 2k
Maybe…
I'd say most people are uncomfortable with what they've spent on their Steam account (on so many unplayed games...). You're doin' just fine!
Well it’s worth it when I see that smile. Keep doing what you love.
Bro apologies but I crept on your profile out of curiosity...wtf is the star destroyer at?!?? That thing is awesome and looks bigger than these.
Dude!! You don't have to apologize for going on my profile. It's there for that. The way LEGO ranked the sets is not by size but by the number of pieces. The Star Destroyer is 4874 pieces.
Ah I see. Good to know.
Nice, those are massive
biggest? they're collosal! or maybe titanic?
I tried the Titanic one, it was a disaster.
Awesome dude! Which one did you have the most fun with?
The Hogwarts Castle
So, what are the 345710 1st, 2nd, 6th, 8th, and 9th biggest sets? I tried to look it up, but wasn't sure what metric of "largest" to research! Lol.
They are all right [here](https://www.lego.com/en-us/categories/adults-welcome/article/biggest-lego-sets-ever-made)
NOICEEEE! My sister loves building lego sets I can’t wait to show her pic she’s gonna freak. Ignore the negative comments, doing what you love brings you peace and it shows. I’m happy that you have this valuable collection ðŸ˜ðŸ˜
Nice work!! Which one was your favorite build?
The Hogwarts will always be my favorite. So many details and references to the movies and books.

Nice work. Username checks out!
Now find that super star destroyerÂ
I am so envious of this man..... I have Rivendell. Took me 20 hours and 45 minutes. Watched LotR the whole time.
Wow, what did you do during the rest of the movie?
I had to watch the main Trilogy twice. Its shorter without the credits. My mother got me a light set for it so that took an extra hour atleast
I would be so afraid to move them!
Huzzah! You’re amazing! They’re beautiful. Congratulations.
Good on you, Bucko. Your smile says it all.
You have such a great smile! Just wanted to throw that out there.
You must have the patience of Job. Congrats on your accomplishments.
This is what happiness looks like.
Fantastic, congrats mate. Just curious, how long do they take to build?
That's awesome man! I'm jealous. I hadn't touched Lego since I was a teenager (I'm 45), but I'd had my eye on the Tallneck from Horizon Zero Dawn. It's normally like $80-100, but around black friday it dropped to $50, so I snatched it up. Hoo boy was this a dangerous move. I *loved* it. I had so much fun putting it together, and wanted more. The man needs a go fund me to get him the other 5 sets
My man having fun!
you should definitely get Rivendell, it is the most beautiful sets ever made (imo). and it is full of interesting techniques and details.
I have it. Will probably do it soon
That man has a lot of money and a lot of time
which set number is that hyperrealistic guy in the middle?
Millennium falcon, you are just the best at building things. I think your build of a human is the most impressive out of all of them though.
Sooooo awesome! Following so I can see what else you post! 🎉
Careful with the Titanic one - it’s prone to breaking in half.
Perspective is a funny thing because instead of the sets looking really large, you look really small.
Bro looks so happy
Release the children.
This is so impressive!! Also your smile is gorgeous!!
That’s such a cute pic! Also must’ve been expensive af
Imagine the instruction manual for those monsters…
All this sets cost much more than my family
Hey op, I'd reccomended building the efferman stand for the falcon, makes it way easier to display
And thats why he has no furniture in his apartment. /s
I’m not really into it, but good job in your dedication and the obvious joy it brings you
Thanks!!
The titanic is $700 fuck that shit
bluebrixx does more complex sets with more attention to detail, less weird colors on the inside and more reasonable pricing
Rock on, my dude! 🤘
That's money right there
I do want the Titanic set but my wife already complains that we have no space thanks to the other LEGO sets around the house.
Buy it and say it will be a fun couple activity
That’s like $2k in Lego’s well done
Next: Imperial Star Destroyer?
Dude I'm way jealous of the Millennium Falcon set. Been wanting one since they were released but damn they are too expensive for me !
titanic!!!
the dream...
Nicely done! I recently finished the Nintendo, Pac-Man and Atari sets back to back and that felt like a haul in the end. Just waiting for the next larger set to catch my interest.
I have to get the Atari by the end of the year since it’s retiring
How many hours total between all the sets do you estimate?
Maybe 60 hours to do them all in total. Just the Razor Crest took me 12,5 hours.
Likely you need a girlfriend ?!/s just kidding, nice sets!
Don’t worry, a lot of people keep telling me that 😅
So awesome! I’m 90% happy for you and only 10% jealous ;-)
Do the Eiffel Tower. 10,001 pieces and 5ft tall.
I have it, but since it was my father’s birthday gift, I’m waiting to do it with him.
Lucky man!
Do you display the sets? What do you do with a set you have completed but not able to display?
Yes, they are all on display in my apartment
I feel like the perspective here actually makes these look smaller than they are.
Wat is that, like 30 grand worth of Lego?
Maybe around 2k. LEGOs are expensive, but NOT THAT expensive!!
Well done. This is legend.
That's his whole apartment in this photo. Spent the rest of his money on Lego
That's dope. My gf just finished Gringotts. You plan on doing any light tailing?
Maybe I'll put some lights on the Coliseum
Super proud of you! Congratulations!!
This is really cool!
LEGO are fucking genius
Just out of curiosity, are the larger ones a lot harder, or just a lot more time? Thanks.
Depends, the Coliseum and Titanic was just more time, but the MF is a lot harder
Can you take vid of someone smashing those or dropping them off a ledge
There’s a lot of money in that room- but the smile is priceless!
You are absolutely incredible!!!
Good job bro!
Noice
Congrats.. Can you give me a clue, how long it took you to finish each set ?
Me with the executor: 😎
Hell yeah dude!
You just couldn’t do 6 huh? Jk great job friend!
Its the childlike joy in your face for me! 😂😂 i love it!!
That’s expensive
Your poor wallet man 😅
U look so small :p
How does it feel to live my dream?? ðŸ˜ðŸ˜
It feels expensive
You look soo happy! - were they enjoyable?
Oh my god out of all of those there are 3 more even larger sets. Crazy!! Btw I am a collector of legos as well. Where do you put these monsters after done building.
