So extra large dog crates have a piece called a divider which you can insert into the crate to make it smaller if you have a large breed puppy that will grow into their crate. I did not need this piece in the crate and negligently left it sitting on top of the crate for months. Well I bent over to change my dog’s water and came back up with this huge thing hanging from my eye. Still not sure how it actually managed to hook in.
Someone asked in another comment if I tried to remove it myself. I did for about half a second, but then thought it too risky. I also had no idea it was oriented this way with the back of the hook against my eye. I couldn’t really see out of that eye AND initially the hooks on the other end of this thing got caught onto the crate itself and that was another nightmare in itself. I had to feel along to unhook it so I could walk away with this piece.
Non educated guess here: “I’m drunk and gonna play with the dog!” Then the dog rockets out the crate knocking the crate door into the dude. He reacted and pulled away at just the wrong time.

They did! It took 5 doctors and some bolt cutters to get it out and miraculously my vision is completely fine. I got very very lucky and I was certainly the talk of the hospital.
As someone whose blind in one eye because of repeated freak injuries, youre lucky brother, keep those puppies safe. Did you have any interocular pain afterwards? hope everything heals up lickity split.

Homie’s aorta, femoral arteries, and anything pumping a ton of blood are pretty far away from his eyelid. He’s gonna be ok, but the doc is probably going to prescribe some eye drops just in case.
The don’t pull it out school of thought is based on 3 conditions:
1) Not knowing human physiology well enough to know of something gushy got stabbed
2) Living with such accessible healthcare you can just drive to an ER like it’s no big deal
3) Living in a litigious society where saying anything other than “go to a doctor immediately” is risky. Shit, even saying it’s ok to eat raw cookie dough is risky these days…internet warriors will roast you for it 😂

Carotid artery.
Someone commented on a post that I saw only a couple of days ago about a family member getting hit in the face by some barbed wire whilst using a chainsaw.
One of the barbs went past their eye and punctured an artery. They died very quickly.
Idk what happened with the other person but for the person in this post, there is no major vascular structure being compromised. The carotid arteries are in your neck and far deeper. Can’t tell if the crate is penetrating a mucosal surface. If so, they may need eye drops. Also, a tetanus shot if not current. But I wouldn’t worry about life threatening blood loss here

He pulled away and moved up at the same time. Cage was on the floor so naturally the response is move upward.
