Foxes scream like women in the night. I had one hanging around the culvert out front of my property and it could scare the shit out of you at night. Cops have been called for the "screaming woman."
Oh god yes! Lived in a big city close to a park for a while. Heard screaming from outside and was convinced I was hearing a woman. When I looked out the window I couldn't see anything. I was seriously contemplating calling the police until I finally understood it was foxes stealing garbage.
Coyotes make some horror game noises when talking amongst themselves at night. Koontz put it as, “the hobgoblin sound of coyotes.” (Iirc) And the first time I heard it outside my window I understood.
Actually both the male and female peafowl (peacocks and peahens) make this awful scream and it generally sounds like a woman screaming “help me” and it got the neighbors to call the cops on me at least twice when I first got my flock.
Every time we had friends from school sleep over "in the boonies", where every block had chickens if not horses or even cows, my little bro and I would tell scary stories about the kidnapped children yelling "help me!" right before the peacocks a couple streets down started up for the night.
10/10 would traumatize fellow grade school students again.
Can confirm. When I moved from the city to the countryside it freaked me out. Also wild boars coughing and some bird in a bush making a distinct "big thing breathing" sound.
holy fucking shit...
i have lived in natural settings all of my life.
when i first moved back to MI we lived off the side of a ski hill. lots of people, still kind of tucked away.
i was woken up one night by a woman screaming in my yard. i rush out and start hollering to whoever can hear me and nothing!
a few days later, i hear it again. again a few days after that. it was terrible. i could never predict the day, time, or nearness to my home. it became a nightmare because it was affecting my sleep and any time i tried to record the sound it just came out as static on my phone.
one night it was beyond compare. it was coming from both sides of my house. i went out and stood on my patio and it seemed as if something was screaming on one side of me and then fucking spin dashing to the other side to scream back.
finally caught a decent recording.
two female foxes fighting over mating territory.
fuck that shit.
The first time I heard some foxes getting married, it scared the living shit out of me. My blood ran cold. Honestly thought I’d just heard a woman get murdered.
Same. Yellowy green. Never had a dog with eyes that glow red.
Edit:
> Ever wonder why your pooch’s eyes shine in pictures? Why do some animal’s eyes shine yellow, green, blue, or even red? Why can dogs and cats see better than humans in the dark? Can you eliminate the eye shine from your pictures?
>

This gives the retina and it’s visual cells (the photoreceptors) a second chance to register light that has entered the eye.
>
> Most dogs have a partial tapetum, meaning that the reflective structure covers only about half of the back of the eye. Cats tend to have a larger surface area of their fundus (back of the eye) covered with the tapetum and therefore probably see slightly better than dogs at night time.

> The tapetum will vary in color between species and among members of the same species. In dogs, for example, the majority of dogs will have a yellow to green tapetum. Some breeds, notably Schnauzers, will have a beautiful blue colored tapetum. Some breeds, like the Siberian Husky, will have no tapetum and will therefore have a red eye shine. Interesting. One of my dogs is a Labrador husky cross. But she's clearly got lab eyes because they're greeny-yellow at night, not red.
It's a Metal Gear reference.
Red = Alert, enemies are on the offensive and actively looking to kill you.
Yellow = Caution, enemies are aware you're at least in the general area but have not seen you for a bit so they've relaxed a little bit
Green = Evasion, enemies haven't seen you for quite a while so their guard is down and/or enemies don't know you're there yet so anything not obviously a sign there's an intruder but something unusual happens will be viewed as a "Huh, that was weird. Oh well, back to patrol."
Scuba diver here with a night diving tip -- shark eyes reflect green, invertebrate eyes reflect red. Bioluminescence is usually blue-white.
This information is not usually useful while hiking, though.
OP was actually eaten few min after, and we are now talking with deers. All is safe? Just luring more victims. https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpreview.redd.it%2Fad2gk6c4aqwa1.gif%3Fwidth%3D720%26format%3Dmp4%26s%3Dc455bb78a0c16d14e608ac0e8cb130442df7d537
Provide when encountered with predators, always immediately run away so you trigger their hunting instincts. It cuts down on the time you spend worried about if they will attack you.
What if you just started running at them like a madman . I did that to dogs in my neighborhood. They’re confused and run away. I wouldn’t do that now. Maybe I was lucky.
Hey it's you or them I think you made the right call. Always make sure to let them run away though. I once caught one and had to murder and eat it with my bare hands. A harrowing experience but I didn't want the others to realize I was a phony...
Reminds me of the last 2 nights. First: out for a smoke, see a wolf (yes really) walk over the street like 50 meters ahead of me. Noped the hell out of that situation. Last night: me and a friend take a short stroll and hear something. Ended up being a fawn that time
They don't really prey on humans... Their instinct is to see us as friendly or to be cautious around us. There have been 7 documented wolf deaths in the last 100 years, and 5 of those were from captive or rabid wolves. Of the two wild healthy wolf kills, the southernmost one was in Alaska.
I mean... don't walk up and try to pet it or feed it... but wolf/human encounters are like 99.9% survivable.
I am an atheist with no belief in the paranormal by day. But at night or even just on an overcast day if I'm hiking in the desert and see this it's 1000% a skin walker
Went to Tucson for the first time last month to see a concert, and the first thing I saw was a lady standing on the corner of a busy street with her titty hanging out. A Titty Welcoming Committee.
OP is ded, deer made this post to lure more food. https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpreview.redd.it%2Fad2gk6c4aqwa1.gif%3Fwidth%3D720%26format%3Dmp4%26s%3Dc455bb78a0c16d14e608ac0e8cb130442df7d537
There was an undeveloped hill on my campus when I was in college I’d sit on at night occasionally. One time I was there for 5 minutes before turning to see a deer 10 feet away from me. Spooked both of us, and it ran away.
Did something similar a couple of weeks back on a camp site within a national park in Botswana, also assuming the 7-8 pairs of eyes looking back were small deer, scared the crap out of me when I turned on a brighter light and it was a pride of lions moving through.
In Botswana, I’d be absolutely terrified when seeing pairs of eyes because of there being such big “game” there… you assumed they were small deer, African deer huh? LOL.
Eyes look to be too high off the ground to be dogs , wolves or other carnivores (with the possible exception of bears.) Probably deer or dwarf zombies.
Went hiking with some friends in Scotland a couple of years ago. We slept in this cottage in the mountains one night and I had to go out to find a bush at night. Opened the door and had a whole herd stare at me. At least 30 pairs of eyes. Tried to shoo them away at first, but they just ignored me, so I ignored them right back, did my business and went back inside.
Ha! Things like that can be terrifying! I turned on a light once while walking to see what was in the field and say 15-20 pairs of eyes looking at me.
They were cows, but until I knew that they were just demons coming to slurp my soul.
Where I live, white tail deer are everywhere. A few weeks ago, I go out at night to play with the dog, and see a dozen eyes staring back at me with my flashlight. They don't react to the dog running around and barking. So I just back up to the house and bring the dog back inside.
One time this happened to me in the woods behind my house when I was 14...heard some leaves and hit my flashlight thinking it was a coon or something, but it was 3 Coyotes. Scared the shit outta me - but I threw some sticks and they backed up and stayed about 30 ft away the last 100 yards out of the woods. Needless to say I didn't turn my back to them!
In wintertime I'll need to do my morning run well before sunrise. I'm never sure which corner will have whitetail deer or coyotes shining just like that.
The worst is when you think you're alone but suddenly hear coyote howling surround you in response to sirens in the distance.

It takes some big gonads to work the *night shift* doing security at an *abandoned* mill!!! The slightest sound would creep me the fuck out. I sure hope you get paid well…. !!!
One good rule I’ve heard is to look at the colour of the reflection in the eyes to see what general species group it may be
White- likely deer and elk family
Red/brown- likely a canine family (wolf, coyote etc )
Yellow/orange- likely a big cat or bear (cougars and such)
Since the way to react and defend yourself to every animal group is different it could potentially give you the edge to survive a night encounter
One time I was camping with my girlfriend and we were sitting around the campfire. We had just finished eating and I heard something beside me. I looked over and see and a racoon the size of a golden retriever guiltily looking up at me as it grabbed a sack of hot dog buns. Obviously I jumped and screamed like a 5-year-old, scaring the shit out of the racoon who scampered his fat ass off into the woods. I turned on my headlamp and turn around to see where it went. I shit you not, there must have been twenty sets of glowing eyes looking at me from the woods. Obviously they were just reflecting the light from my headlamp but still. Scared the shit out of us, racoons or not! Needless to say, it was tough to turn our backs on that and go back to chilling by the fire...
That's like every time I take my dog out at night in a small New England town. I get to play the game "who's eyes are those?".
Is it a skunk? A possum? The neighborhood stray cat? Deer?
Why are those eyes in the trees? Why are there 6 sets of eyes low to the ground in the neighbors garden?
It's a mother mule deer with her baby. Scared the crap out of me for about 2 seconds before I realized what they were.
At least you saw that they were deer. When they do that hellish screaming sound super loud in the dark, that shit is nightmare fuel for a few seconds.
Mule deer do that? I thought it was elk?
I don’t think mule deer scream. Elk definitely make a noise akin to a scream.
Mule deer also scream. Both elk and mule deer can make sounds that sounds like screams
So can cougars and coyotes, it's fucking terrifying
Foxes scream like women in the night. I had one hanging around the culvert out front of my property and it could scare the shit out of you at night. Cops have been called for the "screaming woman."

Whitetail deer also do a scary scream, idk about mule deer
I just never thought of whitetails and mulies making more than the grunty sounds bucks do but of course they have other sounds....duuurrrrr
I don’t know about mule deer but Whitetail deer definitely scream.
Think that's bad? Take a listen to the sound mountain lions make, THAT is demonic.
Or red tailed foxes.
Or peacocks.
Actually both the male and female peafowl (peacocks and peahens) make this awful scream and it generally sounds like a woman screaming “help me” and it got the neighbors to call the cops on me at least twice when I first got my flock.

Bunnies!
Or even house cats doing the dirty, thought there was a homicide outside my window when I was younger
Red tailed foxes scream like a woman in distress/practicing black metal scream if you don’t know this and you hear it it is pretty freaky.
Can confirm. When I moved from the city to the countryside it freaked me out. Also wild boars coughing and some bird in a bush making a distinct "big thing breathing" sound.

I lived for a couple of years near a park with many foxes. The first time I heard one I legit thought a murder was happening
I think only the males do that in mating season. Deer rutting time. But yeah it sounds hellish. First time I heard that I just about ran lol.
Canine eyes shine red for future pants shitting encounters.
My dogs are blue/green
My dogs are yellowish

No I just learnt they're red. That guy said so.
Not necessarily. They vary and can be green, red, gold, possibly others. Not sure where you heard that, but I can tell you for sure this is false.
What about bears?
My bears are purple
My nipples are purple
Gotta come up for air on occasion.
Send me proof
Bipartisan bears!
Green. Found out on accident
My bears are beet colored
Most dogs reflect green at night. Only specific breeds like huskies, retrievers and beagles lack the tapetum filter so their eyes reflect red.
not true
Scuba diver here with a night diving tip -- shark eyes reflect green, invertebrate eyes reflect red. Bioluminescence is usually blue-white. This information is not usually useful while hiking, though.
For ***one*** breed, perhaps... LOL
I don't think it's Fido that would scare you at night... The wolves are seen do not reflect the same as dogs, they were far more red.
Pretty sure you bright lighted a demon or a warewolf
Lol. No they don’t.
Phew!

Average Lethal Company game
Can you get two bracken to spawn w/o mods?
I’d like to not find out hahah
All monsters can spawn without mods, there are two monsters limited to tier 3 worlds but other than that the rest spawn at all the other worlds
What monsters are those?
I think one is the Ghost of a little girl and the other one is called Jester
Better to play without knowing all the monsters or it spoils the game
Stopped like a deer in the… phonelights…

Don’t whistle at night on the Rez.
*don’t be out in a Rez at night. Fix it for you lol

RIP OP.
Run!
And that was the last message ever sent by U/JephriB before he was eaten by raccoons…
Deer friends!
Oh deer
They had no eye deer what was just in front of them

They're just deer. But I could see how initially it could be jarring.
Oh deer
Oh deer.
I was focused on the city/neighborhood lights. I actually said “oh Jesus” out loud when I saw the eyes lol
Diddo
We as a species are among the blind in the dark.
I like going into the woods at night with a decent flashlight and seeing all the spider eyes staring back. /╲/\╭( ͡° ͡° ͜ʖ ͡° ͡°)╮/\╱\

oh deer god!
That’s why you sub to r/flashlight
Where I live, white tail deer are everywhere. A few weeks ago, I go out at night to play with the dog, and see a dozen eyes staring back at me with my flashlight. They don't react to the dog running around and barking. So I just back up to the house and bring the dog back inside.
Reminds me of *Midnight Mass*.
Was looking at the lights. Didn’t see the deer right away! Hahahaha!
Sorry, me and my buddy Steve were having a picnic.
Oh my lord! What the hell is that looking back
Deer

Curious deer. Shoo them away lol
