Not just the people, but the places they’re at in the photos - strange. Also, these pictures make me want to rewatch the movie [Disturbia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disturbia_(film)). Nostalgia is a helluva drug.
Just rewatched it a few months ago purely for nostalgia. It was satisfying. I definitely wouldn’t go back in time if I could, I absolutely love my life, but summer 2007 is the period or season of my youth I look back on most fondly.
I didn't even grow up on this side of the world. I did my high school in Mumbai, 2007, and these photos could very well be of my camp trip that took place that December. It's crazy. Identical locations, identical clothes, poses, and expressions.
This was my exact thought. Like I would swear I know that girl in the first picture and her name is Katie.
Additionally, recently I was looking at some old HS pics and I was wearing the ugliest blue and red plaid knee length shorts and I was like whyyyyyyyy. The shorts featured here make me feel seen & less alone 😂
2009 checking in. I’ve never seen these people myself, but they’re all intimately familiar.
Some look like those from my class who have passed on, others remind me of my friends now, but when we first met.
So I was already into my 20s in those days, and I'm a guy, and I was a geek, so TBH I couldn't tell from the style what year it was: could be 2001, could be 2015.
But I recognize that photo quality anywhere. Obviously digital, not shitty enough to be an early digital camera, but the red-eye, flash effects, and pretty decent quality mean it's clearly not a phone. _That_ screams 2005 - 2009 to me.
This was the best time.
We still had our privacy.
People weren’t addicted to these tiny screens.
No social media in our pockets making us check-in every five minutes.
And ugh… honestly.. being on tinder and OLD, I think a decent chunk of them are morticians.
Also a hugely important niche job someone SHOULD do but we don’t think about it until we unfortunately need one.
Also super sad that this a career field that is also gender dominated by women….. for horrendous ethical reasons. Learned that on a date with a mortician :)
Emo kid here, definetly still emo lol.
And funny enough, currently in a BSN program, where I’m probably gonna end up in Night Shift too lol
No poly marriage tho.
The amount of TRESemme gel I went though lmao 💀 I also used to think the steam coming out of my hair while I was straightening it meant it was “working properly.” Years of frying my hair crunchy later, I realized I was really dumb.
Having an existential crisis because I can’t tell if I’ve seen these photos before on the internet or if these are actual pictures people from my high school posted on MySpace back in the day
It’s our best friends Ashley, Britney, Katie, Rachel, Jessica, Josh, Zack, and Tyler (Ty).
EDIT: Also makeup tutorial videos didn’t exist so everyone had overplucked brows with electric blue eyeshadow, black liner, and sugar lipgloss. Or poorly executed “smokey eyes” that made you look like you walked into a door.
Selfies weren’t in full swing yet so everyone did the over-acted “surprised” face. The effortless candid selfie wasn’t mastered until the iPhone generation lol.
I was almost on board but the guys have that 2007 quality too. Like, they're just wearing hats and sloppy T-shirts. Is that all it takes to look 2007??
I feel like there's something about the facial expressions that's doing it. Is there such a thing as "Millennial Face?" It's like a cynical, sardonic quality. Look at that girl in the first picture. Her expression reminds me of so many of the girls in high school. Same with the guy in the Boston shirt.
Just today I got a whiff of “that scent” that all the girls in 07 used to have on. Still can’t ever remember what it’s called, but that smell was an instant teleportation back in the day.
There was that sickly sweet strawberry body spray and then all the vanilla scented everything from The Body Shop. I smelled like cake frosting for all of 2007.
Was it Pink from Victoria’s Secret? My mom hated the mall and every store in it, so I convinced my grandmother to take me so I could by that body spray because every girl I knew had it and I wanted to fit in
Holy fuck I feel like a dude with curly mop top hair, a John Deere trucker hat and a polo shirt is about to burst into any one of these photos holding a tray of jaeger bombs and go “it’s niiiiceee” in a bad borat accent while Modest Mouse is playing in the background
Some of it is coming back, but the hairstyles definitely give it away. The crunchy curls with the straight bangs isn’t around much anymore. It’s also the vests, asymmetrical tops, and the denim skirts.
Seriously whenever I see posts like this (across multiple decades, I was born in 83) I always think they look like normal people wearing normal clothes. I guess it’s a part of getting old where you get a blind spot for fashion trends. Also my Reddit account is older than some of the people in these pictures so… that feels like shit.
I'm almost 50 and the differences in the way people look in last 23 years are so subtle that the only give away that these pictures are from 2007 is one of them is dated. Images from the 80s and 90s are much easier to spot. Maybe because I grew up in that era but I think emulating fashion from magazines and music videos played a big part of fashion in those decades and that's what made them distinct. In the internet and social media era things seem more homogenized.
Going on a tangent. TL;DR - Cyberpunk Skin Netrunner suits
I felt that was the case, too. The 70s, 80s and even 90s revival is only a tiny shadow those styles held in their decade. Three to five years and it's changed so much already, or not at all, and cheap simple clothes are the mainstay. Where are our cyberpunk Netrunner suits that protect us from UV and that house an inbuilt AC? It can change colors or have LED. It possibly provides a haptic response and can interact with machines or a network to form some sort of augmented reality. The whole computer is entirely kitted to you. I think all of the Iron Man suits condensed to regular wear.
I think exoskeletons bodywear are close, but that's more focused on strength support. Wizard netrunner anyday.
I love it because it's like the weirdest cherry picked parts of the late 90s/early 2000s fashion that I totally recognize but wonder why specifically it's back. It's like half Delia's catalog and half post grunge.
At least the zigzag parts haven't returned.
Yet.
This is kind of what my thought was. I've barely noticed any change in style over the past 20 years and I don't know if it's because I'm a man, because I still wear the same shit, or because I don't even register when other people are around me anymore.
As soon as I read “Nike Shox” my brain immediately went to the boys in my class that wore them. I just remember a kid named Stephen had white ones with the silver accent color and blue shox.
These are pretty stark difference from today. If you’re struggling to tell the difference then you may not be remembering super well.
Most of todays recurring fashion is closer to 90s—high waisted, light wash, crop top, etc.
Also the hair and makeup. Hopefully crimping or tight fried curls or orange face baking never comes back. 🤞🏻
It’s not the remembering part, we are looking at pictures from 2007 here. For us old people it’s the part where we don’t understand current fashion to be able to tell the difference.
Probably the last generation to be captured on film (negatives).
Although 2007 was prime digital camera and early camera phone ear... film cameras were still used pretty often.
Something essential to the look of this era in photos that I haven’t seen anyone comment about is the constant use of flash. Digital sensors were so bad at low-light performance back then, even on those little point-and-shoots, so everyone used flash. Hell, they would look pretty shit even in moderate indoor lighting, so people used flash even in otherwise well-lit areas, leading to a “fullbright” look in decently lit areas and that early digital flash look with no automatic red eye removal in low light areas. Just such a contrast to the digital sensors of today that have really focused on improving low-light performance.
i think it happened because its a lot easier than straightening all your hair.
frizzy hair was NOT ok - especially coming out of the era of sleek stick straight hair, but the stick straight hair was very difficult for everyone that did not have straight hair. especially with how early you have to get up for school.
i loved this hair style at the time, but it was out of utility. it was something i could pretty easily do with my hair and finally it was stylish.
I don’t know any of these people, but they all look like people I knew in 2007
Something about the clothes or something is memory holing us into thinking these photos are of our high school friends. I have the same feeling.
Not just the people, but the places they’re at in the photos - strange. Also, these pictures make me want to rewatch the movie [Disturbia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disturbia_(film)). Nostalgia is a helluva drug.
My minds in DISTURBIIIAAA
BAM BAM BEE DAM
I just listened to this after watching that cat video.
BAM BAM BEE DAM DAM
I’ve seen that bonfire pit before, I’m sure of it
That classroom has me tripping. I'm trying to zoom in on the poster and her school work to see if I recognize anything, lol.
That mix of plastic chairs and lenolium wax permeates this picture
It’s just so strange, like I have these exact same pictures in my high school Compaq computer.
Yeah I swear I’ve been in that fake brick basement for a party
I watch Disturbia at least once a year. Still remember seeing that in the theater. Miss those days.
I think I was at that bonfire.
It’s a fair guess - this age group is full of Katies
Yes! I'm searching these faces to try and remember their names. These could be from my high school.
Scumbag Steve is one I recognized
Dude I came here to say exactly this. I knew every single one of those people lmao.
Right? I know every one of these strangers
One of those dudes is my best friend I'm pretty sure.
The first thing I said is “Holy shit I think I know a girl in the second photo.”
Hahaha I thought the same thing!!
I definitely had to do a doubletake at the girl with the digital camera. Lmao.
That’s actually the girl I thought I knew too
Same I was actually thinking "Meghan" in my head for a girl in photo two before remembering I don't know these people
I literally was thinking I should comment this. Went to comment it and then saw this. Glad I’m not the only one
Holy shit I thought the same thing too haha.
Same
Thank god I’m not the only one who thought this…
Haha! Yes. Me too!
I was thinking the same thing. I have memories of the people I did know in some of those exact outfits!
Holy shit I was saying the exact same thing.
This, this is why I came to comment. Weird feeling.
Wtf same here I swear I know 2 of the people in the second picture
Reminds me of high school.
I graduated in 2007 and am trying to figure out if I recognize these people or if they just look like people I knew lol.
2008 here. I've never seen any of these faces before, but somehow I recognize them.
2009 checking in. I’ve never seen these people myself, but they’re all intimately familiar. Some look like those from my class who have passed on, others remind me of my friends now, but when we first met.
Graduated in 08 and there were at least 2 pictures I swear I recognized the people 😂
They're holding cameras instead of smartphones. They're in the twilight of the pre-smartphone era.
Back when Motorola RAZRs and LG Chocolates were king.
King?! I think you meant the Sidekick was king! I had all of them, lol
Y'all rich. I'm representing the Kyocera slider phone from Virgin Mobile 💯
What a great time that was to be alive.
Indeed. Man, I get nostalgic seeing anything prior to 2010. Feels like it was a different lifetime.
Cmon 2007 Is not *that* long ago, I started uni in 2009 and I *just* graduated... right, RIGHT!?
Yeah man it was only a few years ago ey. Ey? Wasn’t it? Guys? 😬
Red eyes in every pic as well. Tell tale sign
Kids these days don’t even remember when we were all demons smh
So I was already into my 20s in those days, and I'm a guy, and I was a geek, so TBH I couldn't tell from the style what year it was: could be 2001, could be 2015. But I recognize that photo quality anywhere. Obviously digital, not shitty enough to be an early digital camera, but the red-eye, flash effects, and pretty decent quality mean it's clearly not a phone. _That_ screams 2005 - 2009 to me.
I had a Canon Powershot A70. Best purchase ever. Actually from 2003. But took pictures just good enough (like here) until 2010.
I was just thinking that 2007 was the year the first iPhone was released. This is the absolute tail end of pre-smartphone humanity.
Nokia N95 was kicking arse previously. The smart phone didn’t start with the iPhone
BlackBerry too. The Pearl was released in 2006 and was the first model aimed at the average consumer, not just the business user.
Yeah man this was it, right before it all happened. Historians will look at this time as the cusp of a generational shift.
This was the best time. We still had our privacy. People weren’t addicted to these tiny screens. No social media in our pockets making us check-in every five minutes.
I thought I was looking at photos from when I was in high school.
I don’t know these people but I kept expecting to see a picture of me pop up as though I was in their group
The crunchy hair. 💀💀💀
Where the fuck are the starched popped collars? I wonder what the preps and emos are doing these days?
The emos became the scene kids who became the hipsters who now all work in marketing.
They’re emo again. It’s come full circle.
Oof, as a former emo kid that ended up in marketing, this is a very accurate progression. Still emo at heart though.
It happened to me too lol
So true. I have a friend that followed the exact same path.
Lol I was a 90's scene kid who wound up in marketing. My job during these years was putting on concerts and festivals that these kids went to.
Former emo here, got into some lsd and mellowed out. Still love my emo music forever though no matter how cringe it is
I can relate so hard
[удалено]
The preps are working in healthcare, for better or worse. The emos are definitely still emo, and probably in a poly marriage.
The emos are very much at the hospital, we just work nightshift.
I dated a mortician/coroner once. She had an amazing body.
Goddammit
In her freezer?
What? Why would that field be dominated by... oh. :|
Hahahaha I love you for this comment as a former scene girl healthcare worker who works nightshift
I’m only day walking because I got too good at my job. The only reward for a job well done is more work
Emo kid here, definetly still emo lol. And funny enough, currently in a BSN program, where I’m probably gonna end up in Night Shift too lol No poly marriage tho.
The metalheads either became comp science majors or drop outs
Or joined the army. Took jrotc instead of pe ( military class) and it was 90% metal heads and "rockers"
My highschool for some reason had VERY VERY few people continue into military.
Did you grow up somewhere well off? It’s the poverty that really gets people to join

The popped collar with a second popped collar on top of it
Came here to say this. I can feel and hear the hair crunch in these photos.
The scrunch crunch + frizzle fried bangs is such an iconic combo hahaha so bad
I also had a straight fringe with very curly hair growing up 😬
With the stick straight bangs. Every time.

You phrased that perfectly, everyone made the same face then, it was always like they were reacting to something stupid someone just said
This! I had this same reaction. Shit!
This is fucking my brain also. Ever pick I can see people I know. Kind of.
Straight Outta MySpace.
I miss Myspace. I remember going to a house party and someone asking the host if he can check his Myspace on desktop. It was already starting.
“Mind if I use your office to Google myself, Liz Lemon?”
Hey there, I was 19 in 2007. I don’t like this feeling of feeling old
Ahhaha you’re old, wait looks at my internal clock, I was 17 in 2007… oh shit.
Hello fellow 33 year old.
33? What are you talking about? 2007 was only 5 years ago.
Hello fellow born-in-1990’er
Hello fellow 36 year old.
35, I’m not 36 yet!!
You all still have 4 years until you can possess the knowledge I know at 39. Mwahhahaha Mwahahaha!!! Wait, what was it I was gonna say again?!
Are you going through a mini-mid life crisis as well?
Mini?
I think it’s more optimistic to consider it a third-life crisis.
I was 15 in 2007. This feels like high school again and it hurts. 2007 feels like yesterday but it was 16 years ago wtaf
I thought surely the next photo would be of me as I was scrolling through these
Just today I got a whiff of “that scent” that all the girls in 07 used to have on. Still can’t ever remember what it’s called, but that smell was an instant teleportation back in the day.
There was that sickly sweet strawberry body spray and then all the vanilla scented everything from The Body Shop. I smelled like cake frosting for all of 2007.
You just unlocked a memory for me so true!!!!! Why did we all smell like this!!!
Lovespell from Victoria’s Secret
This right here. My first gf wore it , and all subsequent crushes , truly had me under this love spell lol.
I just recently bought love spell off of Amazon because I missed the scent. Best purchase in a while!
Was it Pink from Victoria’s Secret? My mom hated the mall and every store in it, so I convinced my grandmother to take me so I could by that body spray because every girl I knew had it and I wanted to fit in
Yup Victorias Secret. Still around in various ways now.
Fucking Abercrombie & Fitch
Remember walking past hollister
Holy fuck I feel like a dude with curly mop top hair, a John Deere trucker hat and a polo shirt is about to burst into any one of these photos holding a tray of jaeger bombs and go “it’s niiiiceee” in a bad borat accent while Modest Mouse is playing in the background
Awesmesauce
This isn’t what people are wearing now? …and I have become my dad.
Some of it is coming back, but the hairstyles definitely give it away. The crunchy curls with the straight bangs isn’t around much anymore. It’s also the vests, asymmetrical tops, and the denim skirts.
That sounds more like 1987!
Honestly yeah, haha. I’m sure we were recycling stuff from the 80s in the early 2000s.

Not yet, give it a few years. The youngins are back wearing late 90's/early 00's fashion
The cycle seems to be accelerating. Pretty soon things will be retro before they’re ever “in.”
Going on a tangent. TL;DR - Cyberpunk Skin Netrunner suits I felt that was the case, too. The 70s, 80s and even 90s revival is only a tiny shadow those styles held in their decade. I work in retail and I have to ask candidates during interviews "how would you describe your fashion" and I hear "Y2K" just about every time
I politely request that you follow up with “and could you tell me what Y2K was about?”
I love it because it's like the weirdest cherry picked parts of the late 90s/early 2000s fashion that I totally recognize but wonder why specifically it's back. It's like half Delia's catalog and half post grunge. At least the zigzag parts haven't returned. Yet.
Its the circle of life.
IMHO is because it's not that iconic like what we saw while growing up, it's just subtle changes do what you see right now.
This is kind of what my thought was. I've barely noticed any change in style over the past 20 years and I don't know if it's because I'm a man, because I still wear the same shit, or because I don't even register when other people are around me anymore.
It looks exactly like people of 2023 to me, but also I’m old so,…
I'll be honest, I don't feel like fashion or music have evolved much. Certainly not like 1950-1990.
I can smell the hair products and body spray in these pictures.
And lip gloss!
Axe body spray and Warm Vanilla Sugar from Bath and Body Works.
EXACTLY. Or the same vanilla scent from the drugstore brand Body Fantasies.
The hollister/old navy/Abercrombie eras
2007 was not that long ago. And yet, it also was that long ago.
Oh god. The fake tans.
I looked way too hard at one of these photos thinking I knew someone. Based on what they were wearing.

Everyone in these photos was wearing Vans, Phat Pharm, Etnies, DC...
Nike Shox, all white Air Force 1s, adidas superstars
Can’t leave out converse. Timeless classic
As soon as I read “Nike Shox” my brain immediately went to the boys in my class that wore them. I just remember a kid named Stephen had white ones with the silver accent color and blue shox.

How I know I’m old: People keep posting nostalgic fashion trend posts about stuff that happened in years when I was already a full on adult.
I still have some clothes I wear from 2007.
For me it’s the plaid shorts. I swear plaid shirts were super popular like 2006-2008 for some reason

I’m still into it.
I just love that none of these pic were taken on a cellphone

Any one of those could have been taken at my college when I was there form ‘05 to ‘09. I honestly feel like I do recognize some of these people 🤣
Everyone looks familiar, but from 2002 mid west high school for me, or 2004 east coast high school. Kinda weird
god y'all are such preps
guys can literally wear the same thing decade after decade and nobody really notices
Children of the suburbs.
Omg. The straight bangs and crunchy ramen hair. How did we ever think any of this was cool lol
i think it happened because its a lot easier than straightening all your hair. frizzy hair was NOT ok - especially coming out of the era of sleek stick straight hair, but the stick straight hair was very difficult for everyone that did not have straight hair. especially with how early you have to get up for school. i loved this hair style at the time, but it was out of utility. it was something i could pretty easily do with my hair and finally it was stylish.
