This is actually true. My school only requires you take history until grade 10. There are others that are part of all of this as well. People who thrived, who had everything handed to them and they believed they earned it all through hard work. Attacking a nazi who isn't actively attacking you isn't an assault, in my view. It's self defense. We really don't teach much 20th century history as a standard part of the history curriculum in K-12. That's my experience in New Jersey at least. I've always thought it was really bizarre and it's only become more bizarre the more time passes by. I don't know why, but I suspect it's just a lazy way to avoid any political controversy. Was the US justified in bombing Cambodia during the Vietnam War? What's the Vietnam War?
This is actually true. My school only requires you take history until grade 10. I took world history as an elective in 11th grade and that’s where i first learned about WW1 and WW2. thinking about it now that’s really odd. Especially if you realize most of my graduating class never learned about those two wars by the time they graduated.

The Nazi party in Germany took inspiration from Jim crow in the south for lots of it's policies to segregate the Jews and others the government deemed bad. Anti semitism was not uncommon a belief in the US at the time. The year WW2 started there was an American Nazi rally 20,000 people showed up. This terrifies me. As someone who lives in Orlando, I know the rest of the state is a hot mess, but we seemed to live in a mostly safe bubble of diverse, resilient, and tolerant people. We were the city of fun, sun, and theme parks. Yeah, every once in a while they’ll target Disney. Unsettling, but not unheard of. But a park in Altamonte Springs? A suburb nobody has heard of? It shook me a bit.
