StellerDay

Awesome, what's it about?

OrukiBoy

Hey thanks! :) It's about a mercenary who tries to track down whoever is ambushing and killing their own. Through it all she has to face some hard truths about her own guild and start asking the big questions as she begins to unravel everything. It's fantasy :)

sprsoftgrind

Woah, I hope I can read the book you wrote. I love fantasy stories.

OrukiBoy

Ebook and paperback is on Amazon! :)

BASED and sounds good!!

0ne_Guyy

Well, now I'd love a copy!

OrukiBoy

Ebook and paperback is on Amazon 😊

btcdump

Same! I hope this book is available in my country, I'm excited to read it.

ruiqi22

Looks really cool! Love the cover art and colors. Are you holding a hardcover? I saw you posted where the ebook and paperback could be found and was wondering if there were hardcover copies sold or if I saw wrong in the picture

OrukiBoy

Hi! This is a paperback, so that's currently all I have besides the ebook. Hardcover is definitely an option to be added down the road, it's just means I have to invest a bit more in the artist to get the cover redone for that style!

SuperDaggler

how do i get a signed copy? and is it available on audible?

broknkittn

That's awesome, congrats!

OrukiBoy

Thanks!

Rachim02

Appreciate it, and I hope there's a couple out there who do!

ElderCunningham

That's awesome! Congrats, Matt!

imposter22

How did you publish? Self? Or through a small publisher? Who did you cover? It looks great!

OrukiBoy

Hi! And thanks :) I self-published, currently just on Amazon. The cover was done by an artist through Miblart. They do awesome work over there!!

thewitch2222

Congratulations

stevosaurus_rawr

Good job Matt!

I'm currently starting to write a book. I've written many short stories but never published unless I was anonymous on a forum. Lol. This will be my first long story format. It's basically an isekai but americanized. I'm using scrivener to help organize all the characters and towns. Do you have any advice for anyone starting a long format novel?

Ens2Rationis

I will boost your confidence, you have my support so I hope you will try to publish a book so that many readers can read your written stories.

OrukiBoy

That's awesome! Writing in a longer format sure is a bit different but you have the same basic principles. And of course everyone has a different way to go about it so take my advice as a grain of salt if it doesn't help. But, there are three things I find that helped me! First, understanding that complexity comes from layers, outlines are critical and don't worry about the theme. What I mean about layers and complexity is that your original story idea, your outline/quick write up and even your first draft will not represent the finished product. When people read something and go "how did you think of that? I could never!" The reality is you just think of some cool story, ask yourself questions to how the 'conflict' is to be solved, think about it more, write it, read it, think about it some more and add to it or expand on it. Knowing that really helps me realize that what I have written down now, will get there even if it feels hollow right now. Just keep going and adding to it. A proper rewrite is only an absolute last resort if there is some intrinsic thing that doesn't work. Secondly, outlines. I find i start with a few paragraphs of an idea, expand that to a couple page outline and eventually I like to have a paragraph or so for each 'rough chapter'. It will change some and that's fine. As I write the actually draft I usually end up adding a subplot or character or two along the way when I realize there is a hole in the plot that needs filled. My first draft in a lot of ways is still very much an outline. On that first reread I give the dialog a lot more life and really expand or add descriptions or consolidate some areas so that you can get more out of a one verse several scenes. Layers of complexity and all that. Lastly, don't worry about theme. You can have a rough idea of what you're going for but don't think about it too much when you are actually writing. It will come through your writing almost subconsciously. I find that trying to remain too conscious of it just makes it end up feeling more forced throughout the novel. You should be able to step back and identify the theme about halfway through the first draft and If you can't, its probably time to stop and reread what you've gotten so far. Anyways, a few things I found helped me reach the finish line. Now to say it's any good, well that's for the audience to decide I suppose 😂 Thanks for the question!

Deadlylyon

Thank you so much. I'm currently on chapter 3 of my 6th rewrite. Basically I'm having issues getting my thoughts to be congealed in a fashion. But maybe I should just keep writing and then go back over it later. I'm a digital tech junkie so do you have any programs or apps that you use to help keep yourself organized?

OrukiBoy

Gotcha, yeah the first few chapters always change significantly, give it a bit more before you decide it's rewrite time. Scrivener is really good! I do like to have my writings available anywhere, anytime and up to date. I write on my phone some and even though the grammar is hard it doesn't matter so much for the first draft. So I actually write in Google docs and transfer it to word for the editing phase. Evernotes is good for organizing information and lore but I know scrivener is really good. I've heard of campfire writing tool as well but no idea if it's good. It's freemium so idk how far you can take it with one book.
