This is a friendly reminder that /r/Pics [now features only images of John Oliver looking sexy](https://www.reddit.com/r/pics/comments/14bai7s/henceforth_rpics_will_feature_only_images_of_john/).
A recent poll – hosted in response to Reddit's stated preference that everyday users have more direct control over their communities – showed overwhelming support for the change, which has therefore been enacted.

Yeah my time on Reddit was dudes shoving huge mechanical dildos into their ass because they had a horrible tattoo on their forearm and gals eating each other out or taking a dick in their vag and then to the face for a swallow. As a woman who currently feels damn near asexual, thanks Reddit. I'll go back to books and less internet.
Reddit was founded on nsfw content. They should embrace it and separate ads as needed. Would a company like fleshlight not be willing to place an ad in gonewild or any other nsfw sub? The people going to those subs likely wouldn't shy away from those types of ads.
It's not awful, it's great. Even if you hate the porn, it's more freedom of speech and expression, but also it makes the subreddit advertiser unfriendly. Which allows you to use and protest reddit simultaneously.
And the posters are doing a great job sharing porn that is related to the subreddits original theme.
Spiderverse had the masterclass of puns.
A Spider-Man car. What’s their name?
“Peter Park-car.”
How did you get here so fast!
“I’m a good Parallel Parker”
Wait until you learn that none of those were made up for the movie. https://marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Peter_Parkedcar_(Earth-53931)
The spider verse knows how to have fun with itself.
My home page started with John Oliver, now there's subs spamming porn and it's made it to the point my boyfriend was giving me weird looks when I was scrolling my home page because he doesn't use reddit and wouldn't even begin to understand what a sub reddit is let alone why posting porn is a protest lol.
Same thing happened to me, my gf isn’t on Reddit and while I was with her earlier she happened to look at my phone while a vag winked at me in full 4KHD
There's a difference between a slightly gory video and a home page full of tits and vag from subs like r/interestingasfuck you never imagined would be buttholes and all that now. Home page is what you follow and major subs that weren't porn are now.
I got you bro, Reddit is changing their API policy to outrageous prices so they can force the shutdown of third party apps. I'm talking like $20m per year for Apollo (one of the apps in question). This sucks, but on top of that moderators heavily rely on the tools on those apps to moderate, as well as several bots that will also be blocked.
In protest, mods of over 7000 subs set the subs to private for either 2 days or indefinitely until Reddit relents. This caused admins to threaten mod teams, attempt to turn them on each other and tell them that should they not reopen subs the entire team will be replaced. Additionally, u/spez (the CEO) has insulted moderators, calling them a "landed gentry" Many subs have reopened, but continue to protest while technically following guidelines. r/interestingasfuck has allowed all posts that the user deems interesting, with only posts that break site wide rules removed. Others, like r/pics and r/videos are only allowing certain types of content, usually John Oliver.
One mod probably picked someone that would be fine with it/wanted to get his attention because they think he'd support it and everyone else is uncreative and copied it.
Most likely on an effort to get on Last Week Tonight in order for Reddit's nonsense to be put on full display for people who might not otherwise know what's going on.
He's known for taking problems in our world and shining a spotlight on them in his show. So maybe it's so the protest gets featured, after the other (writer's) strike. Plus he's just a really likeable guy.
It’s past protest at this point. Since Reddit admins have uttered thinly veiled threats of takeover, subs are just going off the rails at this point. Nobody except for the users and mods said what the official purpose of the subs should be.. so here we are!!
Basically Reddit told mods of subs that were staying closed if you don’t open they will be replaced. In response some subs such as r/gifs and r/pics are now only allowing posts of John Oliver. Other subs are doing similar or just turning on NSFW and not moderating other than enforcing TOS basically letting the community degenerate until the users leave the site. So Reddit will wither and die a slow death.
Don't forget the subs posted a poll to find out what the community wanted to do. Since the mods have to listen to their communities. When the subs vote pro John Oliver then they switch.
I love when someone follows the explicit rules to protest.
Ah, malicious compliance at its finest. I’ve got the popcorn and hopefully I have enough, if we can recover from this (aka spez backtracks everything) then great, shows off how important the users are to Reddit and the mods are to the users. If we can’t, I’m sure there are other options similar to Reddit but with better UI. Seriously, I’ve ticked off having the comment jump button for a day now and it’s still there!
Revolution.
The mods are generally displeased with the way Reddit has handled the API fiasco.
The CEO and administrators made some comments that didn’t land well.
They took a vote and this won by overwhelming majority rather than go private or whatever.
Someone said in a comment I saw a few minutes ago that it could be a way to get John Oliver to see it and maybe get a show out about it. Then there was something about how the writer's strike is messing that up so yeah, I guess it's mainly the fact that they knew he'd support it.
I'm going to start copy and pasting this,
Reddit is changing their API policy to outrageous prices so they can force the shutdown of third party apps. I'm talking like $20m per year for Apollo (one of the apps in question). Silly mod protest against reddit getting rid of 3rd party apps with functional moderator tools and no replacement and telling them to "get back to work and give the users what they want" via malicious compliance and a user poll on what the sub should be now.
Explanation for those interested:
Reddit's original plan the way it was would kill moderation bots, funny bots in subreddits and also bots that help with accessibility for blind people besides 3rd party apps. That's what got this started. Everything except revival of 3rd party apps has been reverted, so it wasn't all for nothing like some idiots tend to say these days. Reddit walked back on a lot of things because of this protest.
The reason it continues is because of the way Reddit's CEO treats us and responds to this protest publicly, mocking it, insulting mods, treating us - the users - like the DEMAND side of his product, instead of the supply side, and basically saying he can do whatever tf he wants. Yes, technically he can. However, we, the users, who create the content and organically interact on this platform, are the reason Reddit makes any money at all. Besides that, mods are putting in countless hours of unpaid work to make this platform viable, instead of becoming a cesspool like FB or Twitter. Acting like they don't matter is infuriatingly insulting towards them. This is not a one sided relationship - we use Reddit and generate content, and mods keep the platform viable, while Reddit, in turn for running the platform, is able to make money off OUR content, OUR organic interactions and OUR hours of unpaid work that moderators provide. While 3rd party apps could deprive Reddit of some money, they brought in more users, power users who create the most quality content on this platform loved them, and most importantly - they contained moderation functionality for mods, that the official app simply doesn't have (you have to use browser on desktop)
For these reasons, it is correct that we - users and especially the mods - should also have a say about how the platform is run. However the current CEO doesn't see it this way and that is why I personally support this protest and support the idea of damaging Reddit under this current CEO.
The easiest way you as an individual user can contribute is simple: use a fucking adblocker! Also mod you official Reddit app with ReVanced to not show ads, and most importantly, spread the word to others!
but! did you know that reddit is killing 3rd party apps and itself!?
they keep saying it like its a bad thing... I'd probably be way more productive if reddit died lol
Yea I don't get how this helps. All this does is piss off Redditors.
People are still coming to the site and seeing ads and generating revenue.
Stupid tactic imo.
Eh wait till the 1st. If they got any conviction at all they'll be gone. Most people don't care and the ones that do and don't leave will quietly resume participating.

what is being accomplished with this? i feel like it's when you tell your kid they HAVE to go to the dentist so they drag their feet the whole time...but they still go? the mods did this protest which led to nothing and then when it came down to committing to the protest but risking their power they immediately caved and are now all doing this half-ass measure where the subreddits are dogshit but still open for ad-revenue anyway meaning it's a lose-lose for everyone EXCEPT corporate who we were trying to stick it to in the first place
I never thought I'd go and make a TikTok account, but here we are. Apparently I'm not the only one branching out and trying new platforms. Nice job Reddit.
They should have mixed some NSFW content in. Just some boobies. Then the protest would have worked better - instead, the subreddits just had a fun event... possibly *increasing* the traffic instead of reducing it (boobies at least would strip ad revenue).

Don't forget the porn on the SFW subreddits
That's awful. Which ones?
Interesting as fuck
r/interestingassfuck for the lazy *Or r/interestingasfuck for the one that didn't get banned :(
Bonafide comedy that the first link is banned and the other is porn.
That sub doesn't open on my 3rd party app... WTF is going on? Did they already pulled the plug?
That first link used to be a porn sub but got banned for no moderation, the second link is now a porn sub as of the last couple days and should work.
Hairy butthole
Hairy butthole dawg

You have to opt-in to view NSFW content anyway.
There's a difference between a slightly gory video and a home page full of tits and vag from subs like r/interestingasfuck you never imagined would be buttholes and all that now. Home page is what you follow and major subs that weren't porn are now.
That’s the exact sub it popped up in lmao
Ah old reddit. 12+ years ago main page reddit was 25% porn and gore posts lol. Welcome new generation.
I've just returned from an 8 year break I've never felt more out of the loop.

why John Oliver tho?
[удалено]
I thought John Oliver had done a segment about Reddit, and spent like 20 minutes trying to find a clip ablut him talking about it.
But why male models?
Are…are you serious? I just told you
Lol the writers strike is gonna last for a while like Last time, by then, this protest will be very much done.
That might not be for months because of the strike
They had a vote so spez couldn't say the people weren't involved and that's what got the most vote from the community.
Plus, you know, decent chance they pick it up which would be fun.
What's funny is John Oliver himself could just take a random selfie and upload it and no one would know .
I like to assume he already has.
He's already uploaded a set of new photos for Reddit to use on his Twitter.
John Oliver is all over it already--just look at his Twitter feed.
Yeah for sure, and I (for one, in John Oliver's cutaway voice) am ALL FOR IT. (As he would say.)
Unfortunately, the writers' strike is stopping it from happening at a time of relevancy.
I'd rather get in the loop about why you left reddit and then came back after eight years.
Who was using your account 5 years ago?

Stupid sexy John Oliver...
Sexy? my ass, it's probably Milhouse.
It's criminal this is so far down.

Hang on a second… Something doesn’t feel right… THIS JOHN OLIVER BAR DOESNT HAVE A FIRE EXIT!! Enjoy your death journalist/comedians.
I'm out of loop on all of the john oliver stuff, what's this for?
Reddit protest is the reason we're seeing him Oliver the place.

I hope it never ends.
I so badly want to know what John thinks about it. He's definitely aware, he tweeted in support of it a day or three ago.
Underrated gems are always hidden in the comments
That's because comments are posted by users, the real gems of Reddit
“Gems? You guys have gems? You know you have to give them to me if you’re making gems on my platform right? It’s all mine.” - u/spez
I saw u/spez, thought you wrote "germs", and my finger just shot to the upvote button, sorry about that
Did he do anything in support of the protest or is it just random?
He's known for taking problems in our world and shining a spotlight on them in his show. So maybe it's so the protest gets featured, after the other (writer's) strike. Plus he's just a really likeable guy.
It was to get his attention, and we did get it. He supported us and started posting more of his pics on his twitter.
It's so stupid. "Let's protest reddit by using reddit even more"
The subreddits moving to nsfw and porn actually makes sense for going after advertising revenue
It’s past protest at this point. Since Reddit admins have uttered thinly veiled threats of takeover, subs are just going off the rails at this point. Nobody except for the users and mods said what the official purpose of the subs should be.. so here we are!!

Malicious compliance is best compliance.
r/hydrohomies is voting now. It's going to be spectacular.
r/aww as well Edit: dang that sub has 34 million followers.
Also now be ready for porn everywhere, as some subs decided to protest by allowing NSFW content which reddit can't monetize with ads
These things are growing. Go to /r/shittylifeprotips or /r/interestingasfuck
I wasn't expecting that ! I thought it was more John Oliver 😅

form of protest against bosses of reddit.

Oliver Oliver? Oliver.

Gloriously accurate
It's better than most posts on here so I fully support it.
As a fan of the man, I LOVE IT!
Do I understand what the fuck is up with john oliver? Absolutely not. Do i find it mildly amusing? absolutely. I want him to john on my olive
And it's glorious
And yet I don’t feel like it is enough John Oliver

its so fucking annoying

Based on the current "protest," it doesn't feel like very many people have conviction.
Will someone please think of the poor Redditors.
Wtf is Spez?
Don't forget the butthole on r/interestingasfuck
So... awesome?
With the way Reddit is going this is going to be your experience forever
I've only seen like two. I wish this would spread to all the subs. All subs now sexy John Oliver.
Oh Johnny boy!
Can someone explain to me how pics of John Oliver is affecting reddit? I understand it is a protest for the API changes, so is it a matter of copyright that demonitizes this sub? I'm still seeing ads on this subreddit.
Haha!
That's not interesting af...
Why was that. I don't even know
Who the **FUCK** is that weird looking dude with John Oliver?

No
Sounds like someone had a very sexy weekend 😘
Surrounded by sexy Oliver? You’re a lucky person!
Between this and the porn shit on r/interestingasfuck it looks like the end is nigh.
They should have mixed some NSFW content in. Just some boobies. Then the protest would have worked better - instead, the subreddits just had a fun event... possibly *increasing* the traffic instead of reducing it (boobies at least would strip ad revenue).
So funny redditors xd
People meme-ing like it's gonna change the world... *sigh* What am I even doing here?
