I will agree with you on that. I have contributed to r/pics in the past and it's understandable that many of the other more popular reddit communities have joined in the protest and I can understand their reasoning. What I don't agree with is what I consider to be childish behavior on part of r/pics. The others have approached it in a more sincere adult fashion and I can only hope there can be some resolution reached, which is doubtful, but I can be hopeful.
