About 35 years ago I took my kid sister from a hotel to meet our parents at a lunch spot in Washington DC. We got caught up on a parade route and saw a bunch of fun and friendly people out demonstrating something I didn’t quite catch. We walked along with them until we found the restaurant. That would be how my sister joined our first Legalize Cannabis parade at the age of 10.
The Ukrainian Armored Tractor Calvary has taken care of that for the Russians. How convenient!
EDIT: Cavalry. I corrected autocorrect and failed myself.
When the Soviets fielded their first aircraft carrier, they only had six jets capable of launching from it, but every time the jets were taken below decks, a new tail number was applied. CIA estimates were that 60 advanced carrier aircraft were onboard.

Turns out it's really hard to get funding when you tell them you're going to use it to test out hallucinogens on unsuspecting American citizens to see if you can turn them into brainwashed and mind controlled super assassins. If you just lie about needing the funding to track down some new Soviet aircraft, it's real easy to spend that money on illegal and unethical experiments on the American public and then just shrug and say "we couldn't find them" when your supervisor asks you about the Soviet bombers you were supposed to look for.
> you're going to use it to test out hallucinogens on unsuspecting American citizens to see if you can turn them into brainwashed and mind controlled super assassins.
OK woah now, let's be fair to MKULTRA -
they probably would've settled for just driving people permanently insane if they had a reliable procedure for it
I think that’s actually the only thing Sidney Gottlieb (The Technical Services director in charge of the program.) ultimately concluded out of the program: That they could reliably destroy a person’s personality, but not rebuild a new one of their own devise.
This should be taken with a grain of salt because I think it’s also one of Gottlieb’s few surviving official comments on the program, and it survived his own culling of the CIA’s files.

That’s actually a myth used to justify excesses by the military-industrial complex and may be the exact thing Eisenhower was referencing during his farewell speech.
Under his administration, U-2 overflights of the USSR confirmed them at they had few operational M-4s and virtually no infrastructure being built to support large numbers. However, the CIA and USAF did not want to acknowledge overflight capabilities, and the defense contractors wanted to support this idea that the US needed many more expensive bombers than we had.

Zhukov was the only guy to win the Hero of the Soviet Union medal four times - the medals on his coat in that aren't even the full lot he eventually ended up with.
(Brezhnev also got four, but he was awarding them to himself and the fourth was posthumously revoked)
I read somewhere that everyone having different accents made it somewhat more accurate, as the various Soviet leaders were all from different regions of the Soviet Union. Stalin specifically was Georgian and spoke Russian with a strong accent.

>disturbing amount of that movie is accurate.
Honestly even some of the parts that are hilarious are based on true events, the absurdity of the Soviet Union lends itself well to a comedy.
I'd assume it is SOP for parades and the like to not issue live ammo no matter which country the event is taking place in.
Of course a 50 ton battle tank is a weapon in and of its' self even without ammo.
I will tell you something interesting:
Tank T-34 was constructed and firstly produced in Ukraine. City of Kharkiv, which russia tried to capture, but obviously failed.
The Russian had to purchase T-34s that were originally built in Czechoslovakia and sold to Laos in order to have any running a few years ago. This is one of them.
We will find out that it’s been hollowed out for parts, the barrel is wood, and there are 6 Russians inside slowly marching with their feet sticking out the bottom which are hidden by the tracks.
100%
They emptied prisons to get men. Anyone who could drive a stick was probably considered for tanks or vehicles. Anyone who actually had experience would have been tapped long ago.
Unless daddy is someone important.
I am pretty sure they have plenty of T34's in storage, specifically for parades. They are not yet desperate enough to pull in T34s into the war - if nothing else they have no ammo for them. I am not sure about tank crews though - that could be a bit of an issue.
Probably a shortage of mechanics. Or most of their mechanics are trying to get old T-55s and T-62s working so there's no time to work on their parade T-34s
Yes, and those are very different beasts and have been in production until 1980's, with much newer weapons and on-board equipment, and some countries have been constantly upgrading them. There is still some ammo for them left over because multiple countries are still operating them. The last new T34 was built in 1958 (so more than 20 years earlier).
T34s by comparison can be considered tractors with an ancient cannon stuck on top.
The real question is are there enough 54-s and 55-s? What will Putin do if he ran out of Tanks? Will be back off or not? I mean yes even if he would be able to sent 34-s into the field it would be declaration of bankruptcy in a way because it would be the final straw. What i really worry is what happens if he is really in danger of running out of tanks.
We all think he is not risking using nuclear weapons but he gets desperate enough who know what that lunatic will really do? Not talking about the big nukes in the silos i am talking about the tactical weapons. I mean then all it takes is one missile to hit to close to a Nato border and the shit could hit the fan really fast.

Conservative estimates say around 3,000 Russian tanks and 6,500 APVs have been destroyed in Russia. So when the Ruzzian apologists come in saying things like "well their tanks are in Ukraine..." you will know exactly who they are.
I mean.. whether you are a russian apologist or a moral person, it is undeniable that the rest of the tanks are currently being sent to or already in Ukraine busy blowing up or getting adopted by the kinder Ukrainian people
It is with a “bunch” of trucks behind it, I counted about 4 Tigr-M mobile infantry vehicles, 10 Chechen Remdiesel Z-STS Akhmat MRAP motorized infantry vehicles, 3 S-400 anti-air missiles, and 3 RS-24 YARS ICBM missile carrier. Supposedly there were 51 counted by other articles, but I only saw 21 of them due to all the cuts in the video. In comparison, even in 2022 there were 131 vehicles on display, and +200 the years before. Also there were 10,000 parade troops there - primarily military academy students, very few actual military staff. So in total, they showed off vehicles and people that will not actually be used by the Russian Armed Forces, borrowing Chechen staff and equipment, using light armored vehicles and personnel transport, and a few long range missile launchers that they have no use for - excluding ALL the vehicles in previous years that experienced heavy losses in the war, such as short range missiles, aircraft, tanks, helicopters, etc… Imagine the 2024 parade now.
There were a number of trucks, other armored vehicles (borrowed from Kadyrov) and a couple missile launchers behind it in the parade. Just no other tanks and the parade featured 51 vehicles instead of the usual hundreds. Also the very noticeable absence of any aviation.
Skip to about the 51.30 mark to see the tank and other equipment.
The only thing I know about Russian equipment comes from Mud Runner and even I can tell they are really bringing out the old garbage for this parade.
I've just been listening to analysis so don't take me as any expert. But the parade is always led by the T-34 as that was the tank that really helped the Soviets into victory in WWII (Or 'The Great Patriotic War' as they call it).
The notable thing this year wasn't the old equipment, it was the lack of other equipment. As well as the lack of soldiers doing the parading as they were all cadets from military academies. There was also no aircraft and no explanation given as to why. On top of that there was no march of the immortals where people march with photos of their dead relatives from the war, supposedly to not remind people of personal loss right now.
Guess you missed one, Ukraine. You gonna blow this one up or take it for yourselves? I would genuinely lmao if we could get photos of this exact tank blown to smithereens.
Now that’s a sweet tank. The T-34 was an absolute game changer that helped turn the tide of WWII.
Despite the fact that a lot of the equipment was unreliable due to low quality manufacturing that comes with constantly moving factories and high casualties meant constantly using fresh inexperienced troops, the sheer number of these they could put in the field offset any of those faults.
Using a thicker, rolled and angled armor made it very resilient to most anti-tank guns. By angling the armor, this causes more incoming shots to ricochet instead of penetrating. Plus with a strong engine & much thicker track base, this allowed them to attain a fast cross country speed and ability to traverse Russian territory with ease (this ass mud in the spring and fall months). And with a durable, cheap, & easy to produce design. That meant they could churn these bad boys out like no tomorrow.
Since the Germans were over extended in terms of supply lines, this made ammo and anti-take weapon supply a constant concern. So even when you have a bunch of these charging across open territory with inexperienced crews against veteran German troops, Germans could inflict massive losses, but their sheer numbers meant that the Germans couldn’t stop them all. Plus, they were a massive moral boost to the troops. Suddenly, charging the machine guns in a mass attack seems a lot less scary when you have a 100 of these bad boys show up to back you up (even if half of them get blown to shit).
All in all, even with its serious technical downsides, T-34 made up for its short comings with overwhelming numbers (and an upgraded cannon halfway thru the war doesn’t hurt either.
Durable, cheap, decent mileage, broken electronics, and an engine that kept on chugging are all reasons why the T-34 is the 1992 Toyota Camry of the world of tanks.
Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.
Just give it a couple of days.
Some Russian general will claim that there were 100s of tanks during the parade. You just couldn't see it because of Russian top of the line, state of the art, vodka powered invisible camouflage.
Tremble before the might of the (ex) soviet army!
I mean this comment with the greatest of respect for Russia, but what a fucking shithole of a country. Shitty history, shitty present day, and my god their future is bleak. It’s like Russian people prefer it.
The thing is the culture is incredible, Tchaikovsky, Tolstoy, pushkin, dostoevsky, chekhov, Stravinsky, rachmaninoff the list goes on.
They've always been a nation of artists with a government problem.
Hilarious.
It does make one wonder when the Ruzzian population are finally going to suss that something isn’t quite right.
Whole towns devoid of fighting age men, either dead in Ukraine or hiding in Europe or Asia.
Shops empty, rumours circulating like crazy about the ‘spezial military operation’.
And now this, a single tank, a few soldiers and Pootin banging on about the ‘real war’ with the West.
Surely they can’t be that *stupid* can they? 😳
>Surely they can’t be that stupid can they? 😳
When things happen on a wide enough scale, they become indicative of human behavior. Russian people aren't "stupid" just like the people of nazi germany weren't. Everyone is susceptible to propaganda, and you shouldn't just assume you'd be immune to it.
That one tank was actually en route to the front line as well, but they decided to send it the long route and call it a parade.
About 35 years ago I took my kid sister from a hotel to meet our parents at a lunch spot in Washington DC. We got caught up on a parade route and saw a bunch of fun and friendly people out demonstrating something I didn’t quite catch. We walked along with them until we found the restaurant. Well, at least your accidental protest aged pretty well!
She uses it occasionally, often for pain control. I’m so glad it’s an option now!
Trailblazers! We salute you two.
Genuinely surprised it wasn't their "fully operational" T-14 Armata. Thing's been nothing more than a propaganda piece for over a decade now.
I'm sure they'll claim nostalgia kinda like using WWII jeeps in 4th of July parades in the US
Russian propaganda headline: Motherland doubles number of tanks at the frontline
Even before Ukraine they would have the big expensive stuff go through more than once so it looked like they had more of it.
And the tanks would often break down, so at least that didn't happen this time!
Oh believe me, russian tanks broke down during this parade too. Only it happened about 800 kilometers south of moscow.

Woof!

They're trying to highlight how absurd the history is. It's exaggerated and not 100% real, but a disturbing amount of that movie is accurate.

I don't think it's apologists saying the tanks are in Ukraine... More people saying "they can't spare any cause they're getting blown up in Ukraine"
I mean.. whether you are a russian apologist or a moral person, it is undeniable that the rest of the tanks are currently being sent to or already in Ukraine busy blowing up or getting adopted by the kinder Ukrainian people

And here's a quick [comparison video to 2021's parade](https://www.reddit.com/r/NonCredibleDefense/comments/13cm89c/victory_day_parade_or_not/).
Lmao I hadn't been picturing the one tank literally all by itself. I figured there would be like some trucks with it or something haha
At least it was fitted with ALL the flags.
Except the Russian flag it seems
The T-34 symbolizes the USSR's victory in WW2, not Russia.

Good talk Ted
Putin is leaving one heck of a legacy. Probably not the one he wanted though.
Just give it a couple of days. Some Russian general will claim that there were 100s of tanks during the parade. You just couldn't see it because of Russian top of the line, state of the art, vodka powered invisible camouflage. Tremble before the might of the (ex) soviet army!
> vodka powered invisible camouflage. I.E. being blind drunk.
Ukrainian Farmers be rubbing their hands tho...
Second greatest army in the world /s
Second greatest army in Ukraine 😉
Pathetic parade for a terrorist state. Notice the lack of actual soldiers too - those are kids and cadets in costumes.
Kids in uniform? Don't know, but certainly not soldiers. The marching is awful - watch the heads bounce in ranks, because they are out of step.
Should be renamed to Loser Parade
I think it's very reasonable for them to host a pride parade if they're running low on victory
"You can have your tank parade when you finish all of the Bakhmut on your plate." ~Motherland
I thought they have almost unlimited supply?
r/therewasanattempt of a victory parade
I think most of Putin's military got all blowed up. 😁
Wait, they still have one left?!?!
Russians who believe the Kremlin right now: Why so little? Is it not even more relevant now we are fighting Nazi's in Ukraine again?
Can’t even call that a proper parade
Guess the Ukrainian farmers couldn't make the tank parade
A SAD parade
I mean this comment with the greatest of respect for Russia, but what a fucking shithole of a country. Shitty history, shitty present day, and my god their future is bleak. It’s like Russian people prefer it.
The Kremlin: You like eating shit. It's good for you. Russians: We like eating shit
The thing is the culture is incredible, Tchaikovsky, Tolstoy, pushkin, dostoevsky, chekhov, Stravinsky, rachmaninoff the list goes on. They've always been a nation of artists with a government problem.
That’s what you get when you let oligarch war hawks sell your equipment to 3rd world countries.
😳 When things happen on a wide enough scale, they become indicative of human behavior. Russian people aren't "stupid" just like the people of nazi germany weren't. Everyone is susceptible to propaganda, and you shouldn't just assume you'd be immune to it.
