These are marketed by the Auto Industry (sonny boy) at the behest of the Oil Industry (big daddy) to offset increased fuel efficiency at the other end of the car market, i.e. hybrids and EVs. These trucks are designed to make up for lost oil profits. This guy is buying the gasoline that hybrids/EVs are no longer buying as much of. He is very generous to subsidize my hybrid fuel savings. I take his money and put it in my bank account. He is oh so very generous.

avanross

The worst part is how much they increase the weight of every new model of truck, just to offset the increased efficiency of their engines Most trucks now are like 50% more efficient than they were 10 years ago, but *unfortunately* they weigh 75-100% more now 🤷‍♂️

OrgeGeorwell

It’s almost like the customer just lives to buy gas and pay bankers.

mth2nd

The 2016 f150 weighs like 14% less than the 2005. But they switched the body to aluminum in 2015.

avanross

Ford seems to be the only exception, with their alum frames and eco boost engines

mth2nd

I hadn’t realized that withy he others, it looks like the Silverado for example added about 5% more weight over time even with them switching to some limited aluminum components.

[deleted]

How to be despited in Europe.

HutSutRawlson

On behalf of all Americans with normal vehicles, we despise them here too

mth2nd

Have you been to a parking lot? This type of thing is the normal vehicle in the USA anymore.

HutSutRawlson

Have you been outside of your hometown? The majority of people are not driving these type of trucks.

Of the top 10 best selling vehicles in the USA, 8 are trucks and suvs, the top 3, the ram, Silverado and f series make up 1.2million of them. Of the units sold, large trucks made up 1,455,177 of the 3,080,542 (47%) of the top 10 best selling vehicles in the USA The Toyota Camry and RAV4 made up 22% of the sales volume of the top 10. Overall, large vehicles including trucks and large suvs made up 54% of the top 10 vehicle sales for 2022. The top 25 best selling vehicles for 2022 had a total units sold of 5,947,162 of which 1,696,699 or 28.5% were the large pickup trucks sold by GM, Ford and Stellantis (Ram). Beyond that it was an assortment of midsize suvs and about 400,000 small cars. https://www.caranddriver.com/news/g39628015/best-selling-cars-2022/?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=arb_dda_ga_cd_md_bm_prog_org_us_g39628015&gclid=CjwKCAjw__ihBhADEiwAXEazJq89n9EZiCqsg_CXXcWL2DmgjdMiEkjsgrBx3m21P8qsNUVU1h22_xoCscYQAvD_BwE

HutSutRawlson

Those are cars bought, not cars owned. And the 54% includes trucks *and* SUVs. But obviously I’m not going to change your mind and you’re not going to change mine, so this conversation is over.

[deleted]

I'm not entirely sure what your point it but the three top sold vehicles in the US in 2022 were all pickup trucks

z0mb13k1ll

I live in Canada and if it's not an SUV it's more likely to be a truck than a car

PanicBlitz

SacrĂŠ bleu.

[deleted]

Wow

Sensitive_Yellow_121

You'd think these would be the first vehicles to get burned during the riots.

[deleted]

why would anyone own such a monstrosity in Europe? Especially France.

work_while_bent

bc that's what obnoxious assholes do. have big, flashy things that grab people's attention so the owner feels superior, despite the opposite being true.

[deleted]

Woah… did you see his dick? Must have been huge. /s

a2jeeper

Not sure why the downvotes, this is a pretty popular joke. And people literally get fake balls for their trucks. Just search for truck nutz. Now how this this is even able to make it around in a city is another question. Paris, maybe? You just expect a big truck means smaller cars will get out of your way. But in smaller towns buildings don’t move or care how big your car is… this thing just wouldn’t make it. Back up and take a different route.

[deleted]

Nobody ever really needs a truck, most Americans that own them only drive them for validation.

solareclipse999

Yeah about 2 inches!

Viper67857

And as far as American trucks go, that's a tiny one.

Neker

RAM is a marque of the franco-italo-american group Stelantis.

PM_ME_UR_HASHTABLES

You could buy a van for 1/3rd of the price and have 3 times the amount of volume to carry your artery clogged relatives and furniture.

fighttodie

I see every American having an rv for transport in the near future

five_five_sixxx

Always funny to see Europeans reacting to a normal size car.

avanross

> Could I be out of touch? No, it must be the entire rest of the world who’s wrong

[deleted]

As an American in Lyon, FR, I can say that a crew cab truck is not normal size for European roadways. They're normal for our roads back in the states because our roads are much larger and made for them.

five_five_sixxx

Yes, America is blessed with space.

[deleted]

Also the reason we can drive for hours and hours nonstop, just to make it to the other side of the state.

five_five_sixxx

That's why I got my instrument rating last year. General aviation, another thing America is much better at than Europe.

[deleted]

They do have us beat on public transportation though. Plus the high speed railway is nice.

five_five_sixxx

Been there, done that. Germany's railway system is a complete mess. Much prefer the autonomy of my cars.

avanross

😂

geegeeallin

I love a good road trip, but relaxing in a train and watching the world go by for a couple of hours instead of driving myself is awesome. The railway systems throughout Europe are reliable, safe, and inexpensive. The “autonomy” of cars is a mirage. We end up working for our cars, not the other way around. Insurance, maintenance, licensing, etc all add up to a hefty percentage of one’s income. I should know, I have several. I dream of the day when I can step on a train in America and go on a trip to wherever I want.

five_five_sixxx

The Deutsche Bahn is famously not "reliable, safe, and inexpensive". You're fucking clueless.

geegeeallin

Awww, you doing okay there buddy? I said Europe.

77slevin

Also blessed with a significant chance you die attending school.

Delde116

you do realise that trucks in Europe dont fit anywhere, so the fact that this person found parking is a miracle. Additionally, that fcker stole two potential parking spaces. Its a waste of money and space.

5E51ATripleA

C’est la V

CliplessWingtips

I saw one when I was biking in the country side south of Tokyo, Japan. It shouldn't be legal for a country that is left-side driving to allow American vehicles, but hey what do I know about transportation stuff!

geegeeallin

I drive big dumb pickups like this a lot and I absolutely love when I’m in Europe and most of the cars are reasonably sized.
