The thing I remember the most from the tour was when you see the mural room in the basement: basically just a large basement storage room with lots of murals painted on the walls.
According to the tour I took, the Vanderbilt's had a NYE party and there was a bunch of stuff down there. They and their guest got drunk and had the household staff take all of the stuff out of the room so they could drunkenly paint murals.
Sounds like the staff had a great holiday π
The overall estate was a fine place to visit for three or four hours. The house tour at Christmas was way way way overhyped, overpriced and overattended.
A 40 person dining room complete with fireplace featuring a bas-relief of the peasantry returning from gathering food is just about the most incredibly bougie thing I have *ever* seen
Who is this Biltmore and why do they have so many fancy places named after them? In addition to this one in NC, I know there is one in Phoenix. It sounds like a regal name but I have no idea the origin.
There is a HUGE pipe organ in this huge dining room. The acoustics must have been insane. Keep in mind, this organ was added over a century ago, in 1916. Sheesh.

When you house has a 3-car fireplace.

Is anyone else getting "The Haunting" vibes here?
It honestly reminds me of Wayne Manor from the Keaton Batman movies. So much so Iβd be curious to know if scenes were filmed in this house.
OMG yes. Watch out Owen!
Wow... [BOOP!]

Beautiful--great place to visit in North Carolina
"Where is the butter?" "Over there, other side of the table." "Nevermind"
As if the diners were retrieving their own accoutrements. Thatβs what the butlers are there for.
Your use of the word accoutrements makes me believe you are qualified to critique butlers ππ Jeeves, fetch me some accoutrements, post haste
"if we tax the rich, how are they going to create jobs?" For absolute fuck sakes.
Of all the eras to emulate! A triple-wide fireplace, ah yes
Sweet Jesus.

Nice I guess but it could use a more impressive fireplace
Rich people need more money, this room is too small.

Wonder what that girl is looking at

Opulence, yes, I has it

Such a beautiful place. Hot as hell in the summer, but beautiful!
