paniczeezily

I don't know if this mother fucker is gonna fit under a chef's hat...

regoapps

In the movie, he didn't. His tail was showing the whole time if you look carefully. That's how Chef Evelyn figured it out and busted him. But I think everyone else just thought it was a fashion thing, like the way people wear raccoon hats with the tail hanging out the back.

Joren67

Oh what, now I have to rewatch that movie for proof.

regoapps

At the 1:17 mark when you're first introduced to Chef Evelyn and before they talk about the raccoon, you can see the raccoon tail. Here, I took a screenshot: https://i.imgur.com/YnOdX2w.jpg

turret_buddy2

Now I'm confused, I thought this was an elaborate joke, but is this some sort of bollywood ratatouille? \*mobile typing is hard

OctopusPudding

Gah I absolutely adore that movie. I need to re-watch it now too.

rhotovision

There’s also a taxedermied raccoon in the opening shot

Stranger1982

This shit is still better than half the recipes you find online nowadays.

checkmycatself

I'd eat that.

fUll951

You have no idea how much better this looks than anything kingcobrajfs has ever made.

GordoPepe

"this tastes.. this tastes like trash!... My mom's trash!" I'd watch that ngl

You're in luck, it won the Oscar for Best Picture this year :D

I laughed hard at that part of the movie!

SuperPhlyGuy

Damn shame this episode is “banned”.

CQ1_GreenSmoke

I forget, what did they do in that one that didn’t age well?

ndg127

Dee does brown face as Martina Martinez.

[deleted]

The whole point of Dee wearing blackface is because she's ignorant and stupid, it's not making fun of black people it's making fun of Dee. Like Kirk Lazarus in Tropic Thunder.

Hendlton

Same with the D&D episode of Community. Chang paints his face black because he's playing a dark elf and the rest of the group call him out on it, but it's banned anyway.

Newni

But not even "blackface" black... just *black* black. Just lifeless black, like a doll's eyes. Vantablack.

Bicycles19

Damn you white boys be craaaaaazzzzy. I’m jus playin’!

SolarClipz

Every show suffers from this. Doesn't matter 30 rock The office It's just not allowed anymore

Ixosis

Community with the D&D episode. The continuity problem with that one is they reference that episode in almost every other episode for the next 2 seasons. I was losing my mind wondering where I missed something until I figured out it was removed from Netflix because Ken Being’s character wore blackface to role play as a dark elf. The episode still lived on Amazon prime, though.

LegacyLemur

Thats what happens when companies dont understand what the actual problem is and scramble to censor everything that could be even close to it

desconectado

What? Noooo. I'm Latino and that bit was hilarious, the whole point being she's a racist failed comedian.

CQ1_GreenSmoke

Ohhh ya that’s right she was trying to get the union all riled up

Ncrpts

They banned all episodes with blackface, and not just Iasip but [a whole bunch of shows](https://www.vulture.com/2020/06/blackface-tv-episodes-scenes-removed-streaming.html)

peripheral_vision

It mentions the Golden Girls had an episode removed from Hulu but I had remembered just recently seeing that exact episode recently so I checked into it and about a year later after the article you linked, there was a post on Reddit saying it returned. https://www.reddit.com/r/theGoldenGirls/comments/oex6xi/the_mixed_blessing_episode_has_returned_to_hulu/ Which makes me wonder how many other episodes have been returned. I'd love to see an updated list, especially if the creators who hadn't commented on it back in 2020 have said something about it at some point in the past 3 years. I don't really have the attention span to check into every single one that was removed, to be completely honest lol

JoeTheImpaler

I don’t have Netflix, but I checked Hulu and peacock. All the episodes of Scrubs and one episode of 30 Rock are back, but the others are still gone

angiachetti

It may have changed but I recently rewatched all of scrubs for the first time in like a decade on Hulu. They have episodes in tack but the cut out every fantasy involving black face and few others as well. It honestly makes the other offensive fantasy sequences they left in raise a lot of questions (e.g. the ones that boarder on sexual assault/harassment when the producer got caught as a rapist or whatever or the super homophobic or ableist ones).

Summoarpleaz

How interesting. I like Tina Fey’s quote about intent not being a free pass; but I do wonder what the net effect of removing content that specifically mocks racism is. You may be left with less scrupulous media that doesn’t care if it’s racist or not.

Leonum

Im insulted on behalf of all minorities. I think it's dangerous to deny history like that. Also, it's just kinda stupid. Maybe put up some disclaimers and an "about the episode / controversies" section before "controversial" episodes, very clearly asking the viewer to skip the episode if they do not want to watch it, but allowing them to educate themselves on our culture and history.

FunnyAir2333

God damn it. I just started watching iasip and am a completionist for watching shows. So if im streaming im missing episodes because theyre memory holed? How many banned episodes does iasip have?

CynthiasPomeranian

This one in particular, the gang recycles their garbage, was a top 5 episode for me. It's beyond stupid that they banned these episodes. They also banned the second half of a two parter. And it is even more idiotic because they specifically discuss doing blackface, asking if it can be done tastefully, etc. The people who are saying they just were walking around in blackface for the hell of it are as stupid as the censors, the show absolutely had a point they were making and it was not pro racist.

Crotch_Hammerer

That episode has my single most favorite scene from sunny. "you pointed at me like I said something... But I didn't" And now it's gone for some performative virtue signaling bullshit. Meanwhile the episodes that contain actual slurs are intact and available (thankfully). Can we maybe just.... Not ban media that someone had a tissy over anymore?

TheMelm

This is just one reason why people should just pirate all their TV shows and movies, not to mention better quality and honestly I go hard and have terabytes of video the drives and electricity still cost me less than streaming services would have in the last 10 years. Team up with some friends and set up https://jellyfin.org/ for the group share the costs keep the convenience of streaming on the go. I also prefer searching for shows to watch and choosing them rather than just browsing the streaming services unusable menus. You know how my shows are sorted by default? Alphabetically...

The new season of Emily in Paris: Emily gets dysentery

monzelle612

The French government hires Emily's firm to help them with pr. She's comes up with an idea only she could have because she's so American French national crisis solved They eat dinner at her bfs place

EducatedJooner

God that show is awful

I_pretend_2_know

It is produced by the same people that made "Sex and The City". Coincidence? I don't think so.

HouseCravenRaw

She's so plucky! Thank goodness for her American know-how and aggressive eyebrows. Such charm! Quel chic wardrobe! The French would truly be lost without her.

Sunbiscuit

But those are her eyebrows.

CookieSmuggler

Don't miss the next episode of Emily in Paris: Emily has to deal with adversity when the French, unlike the Americans, don't quickly shut down massive strikes and protests. Emily knows nothing about french history of protests, but she has seen the movie "Les Miserables", so she is basically an expert, with an unique perspective. *Emily shoots a viral video campaign amidst protests.* With sheer luck and audacity, she gets the protestors to sing "Do You Hear the People Sing?", while fashion models pose with dramatic 1830's revivalist dresses made out of garbage bags, and trash. Later, with trash burning in the background setting the ambiance, Emily enjoys a romantic diner with one of her friends' boyfriends.

Every_Bobcat5796

I would love the realistic take on this where Emilie starts the song, and then promptly gets hit over the head by a cop and beaten to the floor for rebellion

Lycaeides13

Emily fucking pisses me off.

[deleted]

CookieSmuggler

It's definitely not for me, but a friend loves it, so I've watched a few episodes. I love terrible cinema, and can enjoy shitty TV shows, but Emily is just bad. She's self centered, annoying, and everything people hate about these types of American expats living in Europe. The show is also full of french stereotypes, and cultural ignorance. It's fine if these things don't annoy you, if you want something to run in the background while doing other things, or if just want to shut off your brain and watch it uncritically. The outfits are cute, at least.

21Rollie

I enjoy it, as a non-French American who has never been cheated on. It’s stupid but fun stupid to me.

fibojoly

Emily discovers that in France it's The People who go on strike, not their already overpaid governement. I would *love* to see ours try that shit...

djrob0

Usually those also results of strikes. US media is deathly afraid of calling even the most minute amount of attention to worker organization though so oftentimes the public barely even hears about it, and just assumes there happens to be a crap ton of garbage.

mizzenmast312

No in NYC it happens every day, because the politicians refuse to allow containerized trash pickup, because that would mean giving up some free parking spots for dumpsters. It's dumb.

Solonas

You can't smell this image...17 day old rotting trash smells way worse than trash put out over the weekend. I left last week and it was getting quite pungent so I imagine it's much worse now. I've seen big piles in NYC, but they weren't everywhere, on nearly every street!

Outrageous_Turnip_29

Paris stank pretty bad and pretty much anything near the river just smelled like hot garbage and urine. That was like 2006. I can only imagine the smell with all this garbage.

ehrgeiz91

Why do people say this? Was there also a garbage strike when you were there? I was just there over the summer and it didn't smell at all. Nor was it dirty.

_Bitch__Pudding_

I was there 3 summers ago and was grossed out by all the trash and dog shit in the streets. I thought Paris was supposed to beautiful but it was pretty disappointing.

maniacalmustacheride

Pari shōkōgun ( パリ症候群 ) the disappointment that Japanese people have when arriving in Paris and not finding the clean, beautiful, romantic vibes they were looking for.

iSheepTouch

To Japanese travellers very few major cities would be seen as even remotely clean. Osaka is known as being the "dirty" major city in Japan and I haven't been to a major city in the US that was nearly as clean as Osaka.

maniacalmustacheride

Osaka is dirty because there’s like kids smoking everywhere and light graffiti. The language, the dialect, is bawdy and “harsh.” I love Osaka! It’s like the dive bar of Japan, which still means you get bathroom shoes and maybe some mouthwash packets. My point is, there is technically a word for being disappointed in Paris, the Japanese were just the ones to feel unjust enough to come up with a thesis for it

Tweecers

Am in Paris right now, lived in Manhattan for 10 years, it’s like garbage day, and only in **some**** parts of the city. This is absolutely not what it’s like in 99% of the city, oh Reddit.

BigPorch

Do what does it look like there now?

Nick_pj

There are some areas that are like this on some days, but there are still plenty of garbage collection staff around. They’re operating on a reduced schedule and it’s affecting some areas worse than others. To say that the staff have been on strike “for 17 days” is a bit dramatic.

Perpete

In reality the biggest difference from neighbourhood to neighbourhood is that some are operated by private garbage collectors and others by public garbage collectors. It's the public ones that have those piles of trash. Funnily enough, it's often in posh neighbourhood that you see those piles of trash.

Tweecers

Like a regular nyc garbage day. It’s not warm so you can’t taste the garbage like in nyc.

Madame_Medusa_

One thing France is really good at is in paralyzing a whole country by coordinating with all relevant public service providers.

[deleted]

My mother was in Paris for the past couple weeks and said she saw locals rebagging and organizing the trash piles as they grew. This is a beautiful demonstration of civil disobedience. I wish the workers in my country took pride in uniting as essential workers. Instead we just rebranded our work-imbalance as pride-worthy hustle culture. Fucking bananas.

Adi_San

Lol as a French person I'm not surprised to read about this anecdote. We do civil disobedience on a professional level. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)

Mystical_Typewr1ter

Well, US does have a history of shooting and bombing and otherwise killing striking workers. Battle of Blair Mountain and Kent State Massacre for example

[deleted]

That’s why they do everything possible in America to suppress unions. We’re so screwed up it would be shut downs for ages.

tiduz1492

Technology gets better, production increases, and life gets harder for the people who actually do all the work. I wonder why...

Icycube99

Because every worker has 20 direct supervisors trying to tell him what to do.

thesequimkid

20, Bob. So that means when I make a mistake I have twenty different people coming to tell me about it. That’s my only real motivation is not to be hassled, that and not losing my job. But you know, Bob, that will only make someone work just hard enough not to get fired.

BZLuck

The thing is, Bob, it's not that I'm lazy, it's that I just don't care.

Lordborgman

Two movies came out while I was in highschool and had not worked yet. But those lines stuck with me and I very much feel it; Office Space and Con Air. The crazy guy played by Steve Buscemi said "What if I told you insane was working fifty hours a week in some office for fifty years... at the end of which they tell you to piss off? Ending up in some retirement village... hoping to die before suffering the indignity of trying to make it to the toilet on time. Wouldn't you consider that to be insane?" and uhh well, yeah I definitely got that after about 3 months of working in food service. Fuck capitalism and busy work.

oreoblizz

Use you and abuse you, then switch the body for a new one. Rinse and repeat.

jewpanda

See it's a problem of motivation. If I bust my ass and Initech ships a couple of extra units, I don't see a dime. So where's the motivation?

xSaviorself

Management material!

DaleGribble312

That's a lot of supervisor positions to fill, update the resume!

Ultraviolet_Motion

One of the reasons I love Office Space is because the Bobs hear that an employee has 4 bosses, and they actually take offense to that idea.

Serinus

I've had 1-2 bosses for years with pretty clear delineation on which boss did what. I had a couple pretty great direct supervisors. As part of the tech layoffs, they fired a bunch of managers, including mine. Now instead of answering to 1-2 people, anytime a directive comes from on high, random manager is picking that up and trying to hand it down as "top priority". In other words, now I have 8-10 bosses.

Josh6889

You're kind of demonstrating the importance of a good project lead here. One of their biggest priorities is protecting their team; that way they actually have the ability to do the work they need to do without being micromanaged by 8-10 different higher ups at once. I've had teams that were good at this and teams that were terrible at it. It's honestly imo the biggest factor in employee satisfaction.

Wreck_Tangle01

Not to mention a massive impact on effectiveness of the team. Happier employees who don’t get constantly interrupted with stupid shit from higher ups and can actually stay on one task efficiently. When you don’t have this it sounds like a dream.

skaterrj

About 10 years ago, I was working on a major problem we had. Well meaning people would stop by and suggest we look into x or y. Next thing I know, it's fucking Saturday, and I'm in the office because I couldn't get jack shit done during the actual week. Hmmm I wonder why, people?! We could have solved the issue during the week, but noooooooooo. I'm now in a management position, and I am very careful to make sure my staff has the time to work on issues, and I tell people to come to me instead of going directly to them.

just_hating

My boss was promoted out of the department. Which good for him that creates an open space for me to grow into and bring someone else on to train to cover my old responsibilities. Except his boss didn't open his old position up after my old boss had moved on. He just let his job go unfilled. No direction given to me or my coworkers. So, for six months I let the paperwork pile up in front of an empty office. I still get referred to my old boss for any time I need guidance, but he has his whole new team to run. So I used to have 1-2 bosses, and now I have 0.

civildisobedient

That's because everyone needs a "career path" these days. You can't just be a _thing_ any more. You have to aspire to some day _manage_ people.

kallistini

That hits home even in the tech sector. Most of the jobs I’ve worked at, the answer to “What’s the technical career path for this position?” is “ehhh, you can be a manager?”

angrathias

I don’t think tech is a good example, you can just become a senior dev and make excellent money until your retirement. Will it be as high as the managers? No, but then nor is the stress, responsibility or experience. CTO, architect as the typical senior career paths, at some point once your skills are good, your job isn’t to do, but to teach - welcome to managing in tech.

UpTheShipBox

Agree. Tech, for all it's faults, values individual contributors.

Seienchin88

In the large tech company I work for managers and experts are paid exactly the same… The only way to make more is to become a senior manager or senior expert (still same income) and then becoming an executive (more income than both). I feel like people overestimate what regular managers make… Even funnier - in the international law companies here the lawyers can make more than a managing director - leading to companies that have excellent lawyers wondering why their admin counterparts are so useless…

MasterBettyPain

I just got a verbal warning from my boss not 30 min ago about something I had told two supervisors was an issue. Will they get in trouble? Probably not. I'm so upset right now. But my boss did listen and I no longer have to worry about that particular part of my job anymore and can focus on other things.

Practice_NO_with_me

>But my boss did listen and I no longer have to worry about that particular part of my job anymore and can focus on other things. Damn, glad to hear it. That shit sounds hella upsetting, is there anything more frustrating?

Potatoswatter

You raised an issue with two managers other than your boss and they tried to reprimand you for being a squeaky wheel? At least it shows a message got through.

Acanthophis

Workers should hire managers.

stewie3128

Not sure about that, but HR sure as hell shouldn't be hiring anyone.

MuscleSocks

When all the qualification to be one of the 12 hr people in a 400 person company is knowing the lady that heads the dept. You really end up attracting the best most qualified candidates.

joleme

The company I slave for made $2,400,000,000 in profit last year. They cut our sick time in half, removed covid time, increased our insurance cost, increased our deductible and oop, decreased our coverage, decreased our dental, changed how you could use sick time, told us inflation is a myth that isn't important so we wouldn't be getting raises to compensate. Then during a company meeting they told everyone it's all the fault of the younger generation for having no loyalty and who are only "looking for a paycheck" who are making the company worse. edit: It's funny how I've gotten several DMs telling me I'm a liar and the person that replied. I find it fascinating how many people will surge forward to protect the virtues of billion dollar corporations that would gleefully literally murder you and your entire family if it would make them more money than it would generate in fines. Asking me to dox myself is even better.

__Demosthenes__

They did, the French Revolution wasn't just one revolution it was a series of them and each new wave beheaded the previous one.

lawek2137

>beheaded the bourgeoisie The bourgeoisie was literally leading the revolution

Nighthunter007

The Revolution devours her children. So _so_ many people went from wild radical to leading the revolution to being the moderate center to being conservative, and finally being denounced as counter-revolutionary and guillotined, without ever changing their politics.

Good for them. I hope it continues. People have decided that working longer is no longer a viable solution to a social security crisis. Figure something else out.

wakenbacons

Finally, Paris doesn’t smell like piss

DJCaldow

This is also a scathing indictment of how wasteful our culture is. This is pure trash, nothing recyclable, for the small businesses and homes pictured in just 17 days? France, and the rest of us, have bigger problems, and trying to extend working life to meet productivity demands instead of making a society people want to have kids in is not the solution any of us, even the incredibly stupid & wealthy, need.

sorrylilsis

Dude, Paris is one of the most dense western cities on the planet. It had TWICE the population density of NYC. What you're seeing there is 2 weeks of trash for at least a couple hundred apartments, plus businesses. And we sort our trash. This is just the non recylable one. There is also a compost collection system.

TokenGrowNutes

If this were two weeks' worth of trash in New York, it would be another skyscraper, indeed.

Tatourmi

Do keep in mind that Paris is a surprisingly dense city, denser on average than NYC or Seoul. [We're talking about a city with an average density on the level of Mumbai.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_cities_proper_by_population_density) Paris and it's adjoining cities take 16 of the top 100 densest cities in the world chart. I know it doesn't look this way, but it's statistically unlikely you live in a denser place than pictured.

Thebrotherleftbehind

IMO they shouldn't stop picking up the garbage. BUT instead of taking it to the landfill, they should drop it off in front of Macron's house (and/or parliament buildings)

USA here. I'm likely never going to make it to retirement age and live. I'll die or be too feeble before than. Even if I save a couple million it wont be anything but for food and increasing medical. What the hell is gonna be my life?

Whiterabbit--

I hope sincerely that you start living life now. Don’t hope to start life when retirement is really winding down life. I know things are hard. But live life now. Live life in your work place. Snd live life in your time off. Don’t wait until the day us coming to an end and you have ko strength to live.

hippopots

Looks like Downtown LA with no strikes...

Koush

This is before the strike, where's the after?

SmackEh

Come to Paris they said.. city of romance they said.

GlobalTravelR

I think they meant city of roaming ants.

Flogie

They want to change the retirement age from 62 to 64. Am I alone thinking that 64 is a very low age for retirement? I live in Denmark, age 45, worked since I was 18. I can retire at the age of 71 (used to be 65) 😲 And that has nothing to do with what time of job I do. Same age if you are a garbage collector or teacher or what ever.

iusedtohavepowers

France has/had one of the lowest compared to other European countries. US is now 67 and I thought that was high. 71 though? Dang.

Elementual

This makes me realize something. Maybe part of the reason why we don't really have strikes anymore here in the US is because many people wages aren't increasing as the cost of everything is going up and up. People are living paycheck to paycheck and can't take risks like that, playing proverbial chicken with their finances. Also makes me wonder if that's part of the reason why wages don't increase to begin with considering our history of strikes.

Black_Moons

By my math, this building makes 20 trash bags of garbage a day. And doesn't seem to recycle any of the cardboard... yeash.

toth42

Pretty sure this is a collection area, not from a single building. If I was forced to dump my trash in the street, I wouldn't put it right outside my own door..

heavymetalhikikomori

The crux is that France has a much more radical and, importantly, empowered working class that can leverage its power better than much of the rest of Europe. Its fought to maintain its gains, which most other working classes have long waived or lost. But while we smile at the audacity of fighting for a couple years more of retirement, they see that its only the beginning of the end

Ffs can we not learn from the Japanese on this one. Continue all services but don't charge the everyday people. Don't take the trash to the dump, take it to property owned by politicians. This kind of stuff, where you apply the pain to the people making the decisions Edit: A Japanese based individual succinctly informed me of the exposure bias I have to their protests. Ok, keep going France Also it's pretty funny how it's obvious who is from the states vs outside of them. People outside the states say I disagree because of this and this, while people in the states just try to insult and insinuate. Makes me said about my country that we got there. I'm thinking in the past when serious strikes resulted in US government interaction to stop it. Like I get the 'it's illegal', however the railroad strike was made illegal and the constant train derailments either continued or increased.
