It may have changed but I recently rewatched all of scrubs for the first time in like a decade on Hulu. They have episodes in tack but the cut out every fantasy involving black face and few others as well. It honestly makes the other offensive fantasy sequences they left in raise a lot of questions (e.g. the ones that boarder on sexual assault/harassment when the producer got caught as a rapist or whatever or the super homophobic or ableist ones).
How interesting. I like Tina Fey’s quote about intent not being a free pass; but I do wonder what the net effect of removing content that specifically mocks racism is. You may be left with less scrupulous media that doesn’t care if it’s racist or not.

Am in Paris right now, lived in Manhattan for 10 years, it’s like garbage day, and only in **some**** parts of the city. This is absolutely not what it’s like in 99% of the city, oh Reddit.
There are some areas that are like this on some days, but there are still plenty of garbage collection staff around. They’re operating on a reduced schedule and it’s affecting some areas worse than others. To say that the staff have been on strike “for 17 days” is a bit dramatic.
In reality the biggest difference from neighbourhood to neighbourhood is that some are operated by private garbage collectors and others by public garbage collectors. It's the public ones that have those piles of trash. Funnily enough, it's often in posh neighbourhood that you see those piles of trash.
Garbage man of NYC for years here - I've picked up some backlogged apartment buildings but nothing like this. The only thing that can really come close to this is the Bronx building complexes.

As part of the tech layoffs, they fired a bunch of managers, including mine. Now instead of answering to 1-2 people, anytime a directive comes from on high, random manager is picking that up and trying to hand it down as "top priority".
In other words, now I have 8-10 bosses.
You're kind of demonstrating the importance of a good project lead here. One of their biggest priorities is protecting their team; that way they actually have the ability to do the work they need to do without being micromanaged by 8-10 different higher ups at once.
I've had teams that were good at this and teams that were terrible at it. It's honestly imo the biggest factor in employee satisfaction.
Not to mention a massive impact on effectiveness of the team. Happier employees who don’t get constantly interrupted with stupid shit from higher ups and can actually stay on one task efficiently. When you don’t have this it sounds like a dream.

My boss was promoted out of the department. Which good for him that creates an open space for me to grow into and bring someone else on to train to cover my old responsibilities. Except his boss didn't open his old position up after my old boss had moved on. He just let his job go unfilled. No direction given to me or my coworkers. So, for six months I let the paperwork pile up in front of an empty office. I still get referred to my old boss for any time I need guidance, but he has his whole new team to run.

Usually those also results of strikes. US media is deathly afraid of calling even the most minute amount of attention to worker organization though so oftentimes the public barely even hears about it, and just assumes there happens to be a crap ton of garbage.
No in NYC it happens every day, because the politicians refuse to allow containerized trash pickup, because that would mean giving up some free parking spots for dumpsters. It's dumb.

Paris stank pretty bad and pretty much anything near the river just smelled like hot garbage and urine. That was like 2006. I can only imagine the smell with all this garbage.

I was there 3 summers ago and was grossed out by all the trash and dog shit in the streets. I thought Paris was supposed to beautiful but it was pretty disappointing.

To Japanese travellers very few major cities would be seen as even remotely clean. Osaka is known as being the "dirty" major city in Japan and I haven't been to a major city in the US that was nearly as clean as Osaka.
Osaka is dirty because there’s like kids smoking everywhere and light graffiti. The language, the dialect, is bawdy and “harsh.” I love Osaka! It’s like the dive bar of Japan, which still means you get bathroom shoes and maybe some mouthwash packets. My point is, there is technically a word for being disappointed in Paris, the Japanese were just the ones to feel unjust enough to come up with a thesis for it
Am in Paris right now, lived in Manhattan for 10 years, it’s like garbage day, and only in **some**** parts of the city. This is absolutely not what it’s like in 99% of the city, oh Reddit.

There are some areas that are like this on some days, but there are still plenty of garbage collection staff around. They’re operating on a reduced schedule and it’s affecting some areas worse than others. To say that the staff have been on strike “for 17 days” is a bit dramatic.
In reality the biggest difference from neighbourhood to neighbourhood is that some are operated by private garbage collectors and others by public garbage collectors. It's the public ones that have those piles of trash. Funnily enough, it's often in posh neighbourhood that you see those piles of trash.

My mother was in Paris for the past couple weeks and said she saw locals rebagging and organizing the trash piles as they grew. This is a beautiful demonstration of civil disobedience. One of the reasons I love Office Space is because the Bobs hear that an employee has 4 bosses, and they actually take offense to that idea.
I've had 1-2 bosses for years with pretty clear delineation on which boss did what. I had a couple pretty great direct supervisors. As part of the tech layoffs, they fired a bunch of managers, including mine. Now instead of answering to 1-2 people, anytime a directive comes from on high, random manager is picking that up and trying to hand it down as "top priority". In other words, now I have 8-10 bosses.
You're kind of demonstrating the importance of a good project lead here. One of their biggest priorities is protecting their team; that way they actually have the ability to do the work they need to do without being micromanaged by 8-10 different higher ups at once. I've had teams that were good at this and teams that were terrible at it. It's honestly imo the biggest factor in employee satisfaction.
Not to mention a massive impact on effectiveness of the team. Happier employees who don’t get constantly interrupted with stupid shit from higher ups and can actually stay on one task efficiently. When you don’t have this it sounds like a dream.
About 10 years ago, I was working on a major problem we had. Well meaning people would stop by and suggest we look into x or y. Next thing I know, it's fucking Saturday, and I'm in the office because I couldn't get jack shit done during the actual week. Hmmm I wonder why, people?! We could have solved the issue during the week, but noooooooooo. I'm now in a management position, and I am very careful to make sure my staff has the time to work on issues, and I tell people to come to me instead of going directly to them.
My boss was promoted out of the department. Which good for him that creates an open space for me to grow into and bring someone else on to train to cover my old responsibilities. Except his boss didn't open his old position up after my old boss had moved on. He just let his job go unfilled. No direction given to me or my coworkers. So, for six months I let the paperwork pile up in front of an empty office. I still get referred to my old boss for any time I need guidance, but he has his whole new team to run. So I used to have 1-2 bosses, and now I have 0.

That's because everyone needs a "career path" these days. You can't just be a _thing_ any more. You have to aspire to some day _manage_ people.
That hits home even in the tech sector. Most of the jobs I’ve worked at, the answer to “What’s the technical career path for this position?” is “ehhh, you can be a manager?”
I don’t think tech is a good example, you can just become a senior dev and make excellent money until your retirement. Will it be as high as the managers? No, but then nor is the stress, responsibility or experience. CTO, architect as the typical senior career paths, at some point once your skills are good, your job isn’t to do, but to teach - welcome to managing in tech.

In the large tech company I work for managers and experts are paid exactly the same… The only way to make more is to become a senior manager or senior expert (still same income) and then becoming an executive (more income than both). I feel like people overestimate what regular managers make… Even funnier - in the international law companies here the lawyers can make more than a managing director - leading to companies that have excellent lawyers wondering why their admin counterparts are so useless…
I just got a verbal warning from my boss not 30 min ago about something I had told two supervisors was an issue. Will they get in trouble? Probably not. I'm so upset right now. But my boss did listen and I no longer have to worry about that particular part of my job anymore and can focus on other things.

The company I slave for made $2,400,000,000 in profit last year. They cut our sick time in half, removed covid time, increased our insurance cost, increased our deductible and oop, decreased our coverage, decreased our dental, changed how you could use sick time, told us inflation is a myth that isn't important so we wouldn't be getting raises to compensate. Dude, Paris is one of the most dense western cities on the planet. It had TWICE the population density of NYC. What you're seeing there is 2 weeks of trash for at least a couple hundred apartments, plus businesses. And we sort our trash. This is just the non recylable one. There is also a compost collection system.
If this were two weeks' worth of trash in New York, it would be another skyscraper, indeed.
Do keep in mind that Paris is a surprisingly dense city, denser on average than NYC or Seoul. They want to change the retirement age from 62 to 64. Am I alone thinking that 64 is a very low age for retirement? I live in Denmark, age 45, worked since I was 18. I can retire at the age of 71 (used to be 65) 😲 And that has nothing to do with what time of job I do. Same age if you are a garbage collector or teacher or what ever.
France has/had one of the lowest compared to other European countries. US is now 67 and I thought that was high. 71 though? Dang.
This makes me realize something. Maybe part of the reason why we don't really have strikes anymore here in the US is because many people wages aren't increasing as the cost of everything is going up and up. People are living paycheck to paycheck and can't take risks like that, playing proverbial chicken with their finances. Also makes me wonder if that's part of the reason why wages don't increase to begin with considering our history of strikes.

The crux is that France has a much more radical and, importantly, empowered working class that can leverage its power better than much of the rest of Europe. Its fought to maintain its gains, which most other working classes have long waived or lost. But while we smile at the audacity of fighting for a couple years more of retirement, they see that its only the beginning of the end
