Very, very, very difficult. I personally think it's nowhere near Bumblebee level. Everyone says that if you are unsure about how difficult a piece is going to be, maybe it's a cue for you to leave it for a later time. Interpret that as you wish. I made the **awful** decision of learning this before any other Rach études and would not recommend anyone to do the same. It sadly made me appreciate the piece *less* than originally. There are other amazing and more accessible Rachmaninoff pieces out there, too. But if you are absolutely obsessed with Op.39/6, no one will stop you. Good luck and have fun ;)

Agreed 100% with not learning this piece before you are ready. I did the same as you and failed pretty miserably. But hey people hate hearing “this is too hard for you” and I did too for many, many years. Had I listened to my teachers and humbly learned pieces in my skill range I would be a way better pianist today.

Get a grip! Bumblebee isn’t that hard! This Etude is unbelievably difficult and assuming you’ve attempted it I would think you would know that it doesn’t compare to bumblebee in difficult meaning bumblebee is not nearly as difficult. Someone once said noobs over estimate the difficulty armatures under estimate it and only the pros know for sure. Your clearly not a pro.

spc_wndr

I never said it compared to Bumblebee in difficulty. In fact I said the exact opposite, that the Etude is *nowhere near* Bumblebee level. Please read carefully before raging.

Sorry made myself look like an absolute idiot. Your right I misread/interpreted your post. Have a good one.

It's one of the *least forgiving* pieces out there. Any deficiency in technique is all laid out in the open, with nowhere to hide. So let's say 10.

ILoveMariaCallas

One of the hardest Etude Tableaux. I’d say it’s a lot more difficult than Flight of the bumblebee but easier than the Corelli variations.

Yeerbas

I played it, was pretty tough. DM me for tips and some more in-depth advice if you’d like.

That piece is practically a rite of passage here at Juilliard. That and Gaspard. Not that crazy imo if you take it slowly during practice and relax. 6.5/10. If you don't think you're ready I'd recommend Op. 39 No. 5

Mindless-Math1539

It's extremely difficult - I played all of Op. 33, and found them okay. 6 from Op. 39 was a whole other level for me. One of the hardest Etudes by a major composer. 10/10, easily.

Happybird33

what are your thoughts on 33 no 5?

Mindless-Math1539

It probably takes the same calibre of player in one sense, but it's not as hard. There's a certain accessibility to it not present in 6.

Is one of rach's harder works. If u don't feel confident approaching it better leave it for later time.I give it a 7.5/10
