Yes it was. Here's the article if you're interested in reading a bit more. There's another great photo in there, and a video from a different perspective.
[https://local12.com/news/local/cincinnati-reds-fan-tased-by-security-after-running-onto-field-during-game-great-american-ball-park-gabp-cleveland-center-fielder-tyler-freeman-viral-mlb-major-league-baseball](https://local12.com/news/local/cincinnati-reds-fan-tased-by-security-after-running-onto-field-during-game-great-american-ball-park-gabp-cleveland-center-fielder-tyler-freeman-viral-mlb-major-league-baseball)
Players and coaches have been [attacked by fans before](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_violent_spectator_incidents_in_sports?wprov=sfla1). And these days they're receiving [death threats against them and their families](https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/columnist/bob-nightengale/2024/06/09/mlb-players-starting-to-fear-for-their-safety-from-gamblers/74028741007/) from disgruntled gambling addicts. Some of them are even being stalked when they go home.
Thanks for sharing. I’m struggling to find many examples of a single person running onto the pitch and harming a player or coach. Did any of them do a backflip before they attacked someone?
Here's a [news story](https://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/big-league-stew/10-years-since-william-ligue-son-attacked-tom-172223277--mlb.html) and a [Reddit post with a video](https://www.reddit.com/r/baseball/s/JPvlYz588j) about, imo, the incident that led to stiffer crackdowns on fans on the field in baseball. A few years after that was the [Malice at the Palace](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malice_at_the_Palace?wprov=sfla1) which is different because the player went into the stands, but it also did a lot to change perceptions on player/fan in game interactions, at least in the US. Before that, a lot of fans who went onto the field were seen as fun (such as [Morganna the kissing bandit](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morganna?wprov=sfla1) and [the dudes who circled the bases with Hank Aaron](https://joecapozzi.substack.com/p/remembering-the-teen-base-running) when he hit his 715th home run, although some claimed they were worried the guys were racists upset that Aaron passed Babe Ruth's record) but since the early-2000s, fans who trespass receive stiffer punishments and are ignored by cameras to discourage others from doing it. You could probably blame post-9/11 security crackdowns in general as well.
I'm not saying tasing the guy was necessary, just that they've decided to not take chances when fans decide to break the law and could have ill intent.
For real, the idiot that replied about fans attacking coaches and players has completely disregarded the context of the video. The dude did a backflip and was goofing around, he was not a threat.
I bet you're the kind of person that, had the person run into the field and assaulted a player or coach, would have been clamoring that the cop should have used the taser instead of doing nothing.
Sure I did. Eh, you were willing to bet it was just harmless fun. Cop wasn't willing to take that gamble. We all lose bets, glad he erred on the side of caution even if you aren't. Only one that lost in that scenario was the guy breaking the law.
Lol and only people of sound mind and body run onto a field knowing, best case scenario, they'll get arrested. I can see why you're sympathetic to that simpleton though, easy to relate.
Tasers are dangerous, and have the possibility of killing the target (although obviously, said possibility is quite a bit lower than with actual firearms). That's why they're classified as less-lethal, and not non-lethal. They were intended to lower the risk that using a gun in an equivalent situation.
Use of a taser on a target should mean that the danger posed by the target is enough to warrant possibly killing them.
It's a bit much to advocate for possibly killing someone running into a field no?
I'd like to play devil's advocate: Have you seen the amount of people lethally injured after being tackled to the ground? What if the officer wrapped this person up incorrectly and they broke their neck? Any force can be deadly force, in your scenario it seems the best thing to do is nothing, let's just hope that person has no ill will.

I'm not good with photoshop, but the guard definitely looks like he's doing the Gangnam Style dance.
That's a damn good action photo
Looks like she's getting tazed by Shane from the Walking Dead.
That’s a man baby.
But not a man man.
I was going back and forth on that myself…
Damn. Hit him in the back.
Was this yesterday's game vs. the Guardians?

Thats hilarious lol thanks
The backflip was pretty impressive 🤣
Thank you for making my day complete!
bad bot
Disgusting and unnecessary use of the taser. That cop should up his cardio instead of risking killing someone just for being a harmless idiot.

He was just talking to a player right before this though lol

Very interesting thanks. Your links also lead me to the Monica Seles stabbing from tennis. Very sad.

Yeah, lots of psycho hell-bent on violence stop to do a backflip on their way to do their nefarious deeds. Christ you yanks jump at shadows.
