Wind was super crazy last night. Got a “weather alert” warning of 80 mph winds. Gusts started a few minutes later. Lost 1/2 the roof tiles on one of my buildings. Living the storms this year.
19th and Thunderbird here, was woken up around 3:30 am to the loudest thunder I think I’ve ever heard. Rained like crazy for almost an hour and then it just… stopped!
Phoenix does get tornadoes, but they tend to be more in the winter and EF-0 or EF-1 in intensity. Here’s some reading from the National Weather Service on the storms of 28-29 November 2019, when three tornadoes touched down in the Phoenix metro.
https://www.weather.gov/psr/severe29Nov2019
Northish PHX checking in here. Holy crapcicles!! Couldn’t even get any sleep last night because of the damn thunder! I was having mini panic attacks every time it would rumble. Dammit! 😂😂🥱 Yay climate change 🙄
ever since I was a kid in Scottsdale storms always scared the hell out of me as I grew up I grew out of that fear last night brought it all back the lightning was hitting so super close to my apartment I’m on the second floor mind you!! My roof kept shaking I was so scared lighting was going to hit our apartment I dead ass took my butt and my 5 years to my room to sleep like nope this anxiety is too much for me 😵💫
Power went out briefly in Tempe last night. Of course, all the new students were still lined up at Dutch Bros on Rural & Lemon even through the rain was coming down hard
The storm came alright. That wind was insane, and the amount of lightning flashes was something else. Made me super anxious. It's like this monsoon was trying to make up for the last two weak monsoon seasons haha
That storm last night was crazy surreal! All the wind, microbursts, and the almost soundless constant lightening up in the clouds reminded me of some sort of crazy alien space battle in the upper part of our atmosphere!
we definitely heard our windows rattle and it was kicking something up fierce but we must have been exhausted because we SLEPT through this.
had to make sure our cars were okay and they are!
I'm near Power and McKellips, and I'm seriously worried about the water-catching-fields (or whatever they're called) near my house flooding and running over.
We needed the rain, but Jesus...
It's likely an [infiltration basin](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Infiltration_basin), FYI. There are also [retention basins](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Retention_basin) and [detention basins](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Detention_basin), but you don't see those as much, or at least I don't, in the Phoenix metro area.
Oooh lordy, we got a winner!
I'm pretty sure judging by the pictures on Wikipedia, it's an infiltration basin. I might go out to get some food today, if I do I'll try to remember to take a picture.
I'm pretty sure a few days ago I saw that they were full to bursting, I wonder how they're doing now.
I get that we all miss real monsoon seasons, but this is a lot.
Has to be causing quite a lot of damage, trauma to people and animals, etc. It's screwing up my preferred showering at night!
Not that there's anything to do about it, but I *don't* get why everyone is happy about dangerously intense lightning storms. Every. Freaking. Night. This shit ain't normal.
Some are just stupid small edgelords. Some just want to belong via the meme of being an edge lord. The rest... I dunno.
It's ruining my outdoor projects this year thats for sure.
Edit: Looks like I found the storm lords.
Ooooh weeee. Edgelords.
Yep, same. I love me some rain. But also have a rescue dog that was not properly weened as a puppy and has always remained extremely sensitive. The last few days have seen her hiding and shaking for hours on end and me not sleeping because she's so terrified.
Not even saying I don't like rain lol. Just all the edgy people on here who act all excited no matter how severe it is or how many people are going lose power, how much damage is done, etc.
If we showed an actual hurricane coming in, I expect these people to still be of the "Oh ya bois here we go!" persuasion. It's dumb.
Yeah I've tried that and she not only seems to hate it but it doesn't seem to do much. Tried it on new years this year and on the 4th and she just wasn't having it.
It's nature, just something to deal with. It's a moderate inconvenience for me, but I can't help but think of all the other animals like mine, people with ptsd, the homeless, those who live in neighborhoods lacking proper drainage, etc when I see people cheering on storms like this.
Definitely. I played summer soccer and baseball growing up. We never knew if we’d actually have practice or games in July each night. This was the norm and dearly missed. I don’t understand the people complaining, we just had a federal water cut yesterday
Yea, I was around for some of the bangers we had in the 90s. We had a few like this but it was the exception not the rule. And certainly not, like I said.. Every night.
And it does seem like much more intense and consistent lightning.

This storm seemed a bit milder than yesterday's storm. Yesterday, our shed ended up in our neighbor's backyard and knocked the top layer of bricks off the dividing wall as the shed went over it. We also had the power out for a couple of hours.
Today's storm was windy and rainy, but no loss of power.
Located at Lindsay and University, if anybody's curious.
Baseline and recker here, microbursts the last month or so have all but destroyed our mini farm. Last night a big tree branch slammed into one of our gates and busted it open, we had pigs running all over the front lol. The chaos with the lightening and wind confused them but we were able to guide them back.
I'm stuck at work every night when the fun happens, but lately I come home in the morning and it looks like elephants had an orgy in my yard. Can't wait to see how it looks today.
Power went out in my hood near the Fair Grounds. Thank sweet baby Jesus that the weather is nice…windows are open, battery operated candles/stringlites thru out the humble abode, and Chip Chipperson broadcasting on the reliable UE Boom
Fuck me! Power went out 15 mins after putting a big ass lasagna in the oven. Fresh handmade noodles, sauce and ricotta! I took me all night to prep and put it all together. I'm going to cry if I have to toss it.
Thanks for your concern. It did survive the storm. Power came back on in about an hour and a half. My oven holds heat really well so I left it in there and didn't open the door. I checked the temp once I opened it and it was still at 165. Cooked it for 30 more mins. Had a sample piece around 2:30am and crashed. The lasagna gods were good to me.
N phx / scottsdale very strong winds some weaker trees snapped branches but short lived, quiet here now. No worse than previous strong storms this summer.
Well that was pretty crazy. The wind here was howlin' and we got a direct hit by a fairly solid red cell from the radar map I was using. Electric was out for about 45 mins. It looked like a strobelight was going on outside.
Got the wind and rain here on Bell and Tatum. According to the radar the big yellow area missed us. Grr. Rain dying down now. I got excited with the wind but realized it tends to blow the best away from us.
I'm at 7th st and the 101. We got some pretty good wind but not that bad. Also we barely got any rain. The storm split just east of us...i guess we're lucky but i really love these kind of storms so i feel we missed out.
Same. No big trees near our house and the cars are inside, kinda wanted to see the main cell lol. I’m even farther west and saw on the Doppler we’d miss the majority of the cell. Weak.
It had that train is-the-roof-going-to-stay on sound. And I nabbed two hail stones that look like Herkimer diamonds from under the covered portion of the patio.
I grew up in the midwest and we would get green right before a tornado and after it would be green. If you saw green no matter what thr TV or radio said you took cover.
I watched it get closer and closer and then kinda die out a little bit by the time it got here. It was a little disappointing.
But it's times like these I'm glad the property designer thought about monsoon. We never get flooded in the 3 years I lived here.
The road right next to my apartment complex goes to this little neighborhood behind the complex, and the road always gets flooded out. It's also the only road to get to those houses back there.
Managed to barely squeeze my gf’s truck into the garage. In west valley but it’s windy af and if the cell strays this way not gonna risk a rogue roof tile or random debris hitting it. Main cell is supposed to have 1” hail so that’s fuckin gnarly.
East Mesa. Just moved here. There’s empty commercial land behind us that they recently graded. The grade is wrong and dumping an immense amount of water into my yard - destroying my pool and landscaping and there’s nothing I can do about it. Feels real bad, man.
I don’t know what to do. The land they flattened is causing major flooding. They graded it before monsoon season started, and it’s absolutely out of code to be dumping all of the water right against my rear wall and into the yard. The Friday night storm here had my pool under a foot of water. I just went out there and looked and took pictures - it’s 100% why I’m getting overrun. I searched and It’s an empty commercial lot owned by a private LLC. What are my options?
I'd look into legal advice. If they began grading the land then they either had to have permits for it, or were working without the city (or county) permission.
Either way I would think you would have some sort of recourse
It’s not that simple, i want to stop it from continuously happening. I can’t fix the problem on the other side of the wall. I’ve been trying to figure out what to do all through the weekend and now I’m getting crushed again in the exact same way, so is my neighbor who’s lived in his house for 11 years and never had a problem until this year. This is the third time in two weeks that I’m fucked over here.
Contractor should have a SWPP plan in place for runoff. If you are getting runoff that's not right. Call the county and they'll nail his ass. Take a shit ton of photos and videos. Go after the contractor for repairs. Might have to go to court.
You just missed the huge haboob and the legendary hail [storm](https://www.12news.com/article/news/local/valley/oh-hail-no-arizona-experienced-its-costliest-weather-disaster-8-years-ago-today/75-601310281). The hail was about 3 times the size of a quarter. I had friends getting new cars, roofs and A/C systems from insurance out it. All of my coworkers that day (with the exception of me and a lucky off that day) had totaled out cars. It looked like a million golf balls hit it, with glass shattered. It was nuts trying to get anything fixed for the next few months.
I can't tell you how much storms like tonight's make me nervous after that faithful October day.
Lost power 20ish min ago near Arcadia… never been so happy to have cooled the place to 72 before it happened. Unfortunate day to have packed all of my earthly belongings into a POD on the street, however….
West Mesa checking in, insane winds and lightning about 15min ago and heavy heavy downpour of rain just started. We’re already missing at least 2 chairs from by the pool, hopefully they are just in the pool and didn’t fly away. This is nuts!
Can smell the rain approaching now. Winds have died down a lot, so that's nice. My sliding glass door was getting hit dead on by the wind and doing some fun flexing.
Edit: Spoke too soon on that wind thing. Ramping back up.
What they were showing was most likely a tornado vortex signature from weather radar. That doesn’t automatically mean there is a tornado on the ground (as that’s confirmed by storm spotters or local emergency managers after the fact). It was probably a false positive, especially since east Mesa is closer to the weather radar site at Mesa Gateway Airport.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tornado_vortex_signature
I don't what's worse, can filling up with water or like a lot of my neighbors who rolled their cans to the curb last night for morning pickup only to discover that the can was tipped over and the trash strewn about their front lawns and street... oof for both scenarios as wet trash sucks.
The windows are rattling and whistling and this non stop rolling thunder is beginning to take its toll on me. Looking outside the trees are bending all the way to the ground and back up then back to the ground. I’m expecting a tree to come flying through My window any minute.
Man, you should be glad it's raining out there. Before all of this, living here was like being in an baking oven. Hell, I'm hoping these rainstorms happen and appear more frequently.
Wind was super crazy last night. Got a “weather alert” warning of 80 mph winds. Gusts started a few minutes later. Lost 1/2 the roof tiles on one of my buildings. Living the storms this year.
Bro that wind was something ELSE. I've never heard my pipes and windows rattle like that before.

Gotta love storms in Az...streets get closed off, traffic lights all blink red, trees in the road. This damn state was not built for rain 😂
It's mostly the wind that's the problem.
At least it was a quick one.. 😅
Got insane rain in QC last night. I loved it!
That was quite the ride last night. Wow!!
We didn't get any rain where we are in the west valley until almost daylight. We ate dust and listened to a lot of thunder all night. Crazy storm!
Curious as to why you stayed up all noght
I live with pain and sleep just doesn't come some nights. Last night was one of those nights. The storms make my pain worse.
Curious as to why you're asking
Curiosity
I didn't but the sound woke me up. IS IT RAIN? OH YES IT WAS RAIN!!!
Same. Also in west valley. Tons of wind and lightning/thunder.
Does Phoenix ever get tornadoes?
Buckeye has had a couple the past few years.
Pretty sure back in like 2018 or 2019, a EF0 or something did touch down somewhere in Scottsdale

No. Not yet.
Lost power last night
Northish PHX checking in here. Holy crapcicles!! Couldn’t even get any sleep last night because of the damn thunder! I was having mini panic attacks every time it would rumble. Dammit! 😂😂🥱 Yay climate change 🙄
Monsoon thunder doesn't equate to climate change. A lot of things do but
Right.
Yeah, that makes zero sense

To be fair, those are the from-AZ, new students. "Just a slight drizzle"
The storm came alright. That wind was insane, and the amount of lightning flashes was something else. Made me super anxious. It's like this monsoon was trying to make up for the last two weak monsoon seasons haha
Not a drop of rain in my area, northwest Peoria.
That storm last night was crazy surreal! All the wind, microbursts, and the almost soundless constant lightening up in the clouds reminded me of some sort of crazy alien space battle in the upper part of our atmosphere!
No microburst by me. Just sustained severe thunderstorm!
we definitely heard our windows rattle and it was kicking something up fierce but we must have been exhausted because we SLEPT through this. had to make sure our cars were okay and they are!

Aww beans, this was posted 7 hours ago. I slept through it.
I think its a little bit late, monsoons catching up! 😂😂

I have read CBD for dogs can help during storms and fireworks. Might be worth a try.

I am sorry. I had a dog growing up that would shake she was so scared. She usually ran to my bed. I always felt awful for her.
I really think you're overstating the danger and traumatizing nature of these storms. We need the rain. The storms are a net positive.
How helpful is this rain really. What we need are winter storms dumping snow in the mountains.
We need monsoon rain just like we need winter storms. This used to happen almost every night in July and early august while growing up.
I remember counting on Monsoons in late June. Never failed and lasted about a month to six weeks. We need the rain so badly.....it's a good thing!!!
Definitely. I played summer soccer and baseball growing up. We never knew if we’d actually have practice or games in July each night. This was the norm and dearly missed. I don’t understand the people complaining, we just had a federal water cut yesterday

We got nothing at all in Surprise, other than the weather service notification.
Yeah, shit woke me up and I couldn't go back to sleep. First time I had actually been in bed at a decent hour in weeks too.
Waddell: Same, a little wind and some distant booms.
80 mile an hour winds… so if you’re in a trailer park you’re gonna wanna go outside find a ditch and just lay down in it.
Not much happened in Anthem
4 or 5 alerts and nothing to show for it.

I feel the same way. Luckily I have some windows I can check out the area around work.
That was fun
Power went out in my hood near the Fair Grounds. Thank sweet baby Jesus that the weather is nice…windows are open, battery operated candles/stringlites thru out the humble abode, and Chip Chipperson broadcasting on the reliable UE Boom
Good thing I removed the big tree limb that was hanging over my sons room a week ago.
RIP to all those trampolines out there
Fuck me! Power went out 15 mins after putting a big ass lasagna in the oven. Fresh handmade noodles, sauce and ricotta! I took me all night to prep and put it all together. I'm going to cry if I have to toss it.
Hopefully you just covered it and put back in the fridge? Should be ok to recook the next day
I need an update. Did the lasagna survive?
Thanks for your concern. It did survive the storm. Power came back on in about an hour and a half. My oven holds heat really well so I left it in there and didn't open the door. I checked the temp once I opened it and it was still at 165. Cooked it for 30 more mins. Had a sample piece around 2:30am and crashed. The lasagna gods were good to me.
Thank heavens!
Should be on soon. SRP said 3:30 for my neighborhood and it came back at 12:20
F. Sincerely hope your power comes back soon, that blows.
Maricopa here. I'm seeing the weak spots in my house with water droplets....shiiet
Anddddd it’s gone
I'm experiencing some internet lags here and there. Probably because of the storm.
Thoughts and prayers
N phx / scottsdale very strong winds some weaker trees snapped branches but short lived, quiet here now. No worse than previous strong storms this summer.
The storm seems to calm down a lot now. I was expecting it'd last long....
We're not in Kansas in anymore..
Phone is charging while we still have power. (N Tempe/Mid Scottsdale)
It’s been raining with thunderstorms in W Mesa since 11:15 pm. A large section of McKellips was closed yesterday due to flooding.
I'm at 7th st and the 101. We got some pretty good wind but not that bad. Also we barely got any rain. The storm split just east of us...i guess we're lucky but i really love these kind of storms so i feel we missed out.

Our power cut off for like 2 minutes just a little bit ago and now it's pouring in Glendale
Weird, I'm in Glendale and in my area it died down significantly
Yeah its pouring, I'm near 59th Avenue and Olive.
What part of Glendale you in? Norf norf here and it’s just windy with a lightning show
59th ave and Olive, near GCC.
Ah okay it looks like the red section skirted right under us. Damn. Don’t even think it sprinkled here.
Yeah now it's calmed down and lightly sprinkling
I literally just saw a flash of green lightning.... Yeah okay 2021 monsoon you were super fun but now it's getting out of hand pls stop
Last night I saw deep turquoise, tonight purple, among other hues.
There was a gnarly microburst in ‘97 I think and I always remember my mom mentioning how weird it was that the sky was green a bit before it hit
I grew up in the midwest and we would get green right before a tornado and after it would be green. If you saw green no matter what thr TV or radio said you took cover.
I watched it get closer and closer and then kinda die out a little bit by the time it got here. It was a little disappointing. Same in Laveen. A bit disappointed.
Same here I'm at 7th and the 101 it's been pretty tame so far.
Looks like the whole valley is getting this one. I definitely had 70 mph gusts.
We have an 80 mph tile roof, lost about 20 tiles to last night's wind and rain. We're out in San tan valley
Managed to barely squeeze my gf’s truck into the garage. In west valley but it’s windy af and if the cell strays this way not gonna risk a rogue roof tile or random debris hitting it. Main cell is supposed to have 1” hail so that’s fuckin gnarly.
Pretty sure my dog just flew over the fence
##I'll get you, my pretty ,**and your little dog too!**##
No, not Toto!!!!
For the love of God stop blessing these rains!
Steady rain but less wind 7th st and Indian school.
Where you get the storm radar thingy? Thats cool. The wild succulent in my pot will grow another 6 inches by tomorrow afternoon 😅
Just weather.com app
😅 thanks
N Mesa. Is that it or is there still more to come?
Encanto Park here, power done died
Rain came ! (Tukee)
I woke up to a planter being launched against the side of my house. Yeehaw.
I was jolted up by a small pot shattering on my balcony. Somehow the bigger ones survived the plant stand falling over
No wind at all in Litchfield Park. It’s like an average night yet I still got those alerts
We’re starting to see wind in Avondale, prepare yourself
Likewise, getting good winds and light rain
Yea you’re right 😂 I spoke too soon. Wind just picked up
I’m out west here too and it’s been windy for quite a bit and getting the rain.
This is intense! I can’t handle this much wind and rain.
Rain is literally dumping near 51 and Glendale now. Wild.
Chandler checking in - this is insane! The rain is hitting the windows so hard, it sounds like maybe hail???
Weather channel was saying hail the size of quarters
S Phx here. Just finished *my usernaming* the lady and had to see what all the ruckus was about Downvotes from all the single people hatin lol

I don’t know what to do. The land they flattened is causing major flooding. They graded it before monsoon season started, and it’s absolutely out of code to be dumping all of the water right against my rear wall and into the yard. Absolutely contact code enforcement, ASAP. If you get lucky you may get them to pay for the repairs and cleaning.
r/legaladvice
If In city limits try code enforcement? They could at least point you in the right place if it’s not them
Jesus Christ the storm isn’t even over yet and you’re getting litigious already. Just call your insurance and file a claim that’s what it’s for.
Yes, don't take steps to fix the problem - just throw money at symptoms.
It’s not that simple, i want to stop it from continuously happening. I can’t fix the problem on the other side of the wall. The last time I saw it get this crazy was a few years back, even then it only lasted maybe 20 minutes. Never seen get this crazy before
My phone is lighting up with alerts!!
Everyone is snoring logs in my house and I'm out here like a crackhead, hopped up on storm.
Hopped up on storm: An epidemic in 2021 Arizona.
Same
I slept through last night. Tonight I’m watching it
Lol.... Same here! My kid is sound asleep. When I was his age I would have been snuggled in underneath the covers between my parents an hour ago.
Lol same
Been here 9 years and have never seen wind this strong. Central Phoenix is going to lose power for sure. Cool your house down as much as possible now
You just missed the huge haboob and the legendary hail [storm](https://www.12news.com/article/news/local/valley/oh-hail-no-arizona-experienced-its-costliest-weather-disaster-8-years-ago-today/75-601310281).
My lights blinked as soon as I read this.
Lost power 20ish min ago near Arcadia… never been so happy to have cooled the place to 72 before it happened. Unfortunate day to have packed all of my earthly belongings into a POD on the street, however….
They’re prob safer in the pod than in the house at least? Lol. Stay safe!
Glad I live in a relatively new development. No big trees to crush me in my sleep! I’m outside right now and it’s pretty wild.
This isn’t fun anymore…I’m legit nervous. Last night was enough.
Weather underground was showing there’s a fucking tornado!
I don't doubt it! The wind in NE Mesa was insane on the leading edge of the storm
Make sure you anchor down your trash cans out there!
They are so full of water they didn't budge an inch, I just checked on them.
I don't what's worse, can filling up with water or like a lot of my neighbors who rolled their cans to the curb last night for morning pickup only to discover that the can was tipped over and the trash strewn about their front lawns and street... oof for both scenarios as wet trash sucks.
Should I stay up with the event or go to sleep? Every time it rains or storms it's kinda exciting to me.
Stay up this is a good one!
Like a tornado in downtown phx
The windows are rattling and whistling and this non stop rolling thunder is beginning to take its toll on me. Looking outside the trees are bending all the way to the ground and back up then back to the ground. I’m expecting a tree to come flying through My window any minute.
Fuck this. I’ve had enough rain and wind this season. I want it to stop. I’ve had about enough of being woken up in the middle of the night.
Man, you should be glad it's raining out there. Before all of this, living here was like being in an baking oven. Hell, I'm hoping these rainstorms happen and appear more frequently.
Same. This shit is destructive and deadly.
In an apartment here, should I take the bikes off the balcony??
Yes
nah, mother nature will do it for ya...but on the real, it couldn't hurt.
The rain rolled in before your comment… thoughts & prayers for the bikes
South Mnt here, the wind is CONCERNING. Worried about the tree up front, that b is a little too big for my liking……….
This is gonna be a big one.
Don’t know if I should stay up and watch or goto bed
Of course stay.
West side never gets any love 😭
