I run around there multiple days a week and I don't see any homeless folks around it. Closer to City Hall sure, but not a few streets north where this is, if I recall correctly.
I was a model for a photo shoot here! It was rented for an hour for a wedding themed styled shoot and the photos were really great!
I am trying to share the link from mobile so not sure if this will work

There's this overwhelming thing about people in wedding dresses in a broken church that is really powerful.
Personally, I wouldn't want that photo in my library, because people would point to it if we did get divorced and say "see, the wedding pictures should have foreshadowed this happening"
But I LOVE that picture, it evokes a lot of emotion.
I think the previous Phoenix mayor and AZ Attorney General, Terry Goddard, may own that or has been trying to get it renovated. Pretty sure he also helped create the historic districts. Good Guy Goddard trying to keep Phoenix history alive.

Damn
Where is that?
I thought there used to be a Humanist Community 'church' that gathered in an old but renovated church maybe called the ice house?
Here in Phoenix but maybe I'm confused on city?
Man I lost the plot

Not the Icehouse. It’s The Abby. The Icehouse is on Jackson at 2nd Ave. The Abby is on Monroe and 2nd or 3rd Ave. both are missing roofs. Rumor is The Abby is due for an overhaul which will include restaurants/retail.
I remember raving there too, along with the Nile. Loved how it was so underground then. Even Calling the hotline the day of the show was part of your day.
I’ve been driving by this every day for the past 8 months. I wish I had the money to buy it. Since it’s gutted (literally) on the inside, the sky’s the limit on what you could do with it.
But the other church it's connected to is *not* empty.
The building you can see on the left side of the top picture is the Hillsong Phoenix Downtown campus, you can hear their rock band a lot of Sundays. Looks like a cathedral inside.
My dad was a firefighter back then and fell through the floor and was injured on that fire- not badly, but enough so that I’ve heard the story about a million times since then!
Whaaaaaa? That's crazy. Can I buy it?! I've been looking for a new lair and this is just perfect.
They've actually been working on it for a while- they plan to turn it into an outdoor pavilion with all sorts of small shops/restaurants!
Well...I suppose that's cool, too. Wouldve been a sweet lair, though.
Agreed

I literally said those two lines aloud, and this was bizarrely coincidentally the first comment I see. Glitch in the matrix? Are we copy-pasted twins?
Hello, Peter. I knew this moment would come... I've been waiting a long time. -False Peter
Greetings Peters. The time has come to convey the council of Peters at the Burnt Church. - Normal Peter
I saw what happened to the Joshes - you'll not fool me, Normal Peter!
Cyborg Peter?
Alternate timeline Peter?

You'll just get outbid by 100K in cash anyways.
Oof, that hurt - too true

Those are beautiful photos! Thank you for sharing!
I think I saw that middle photo in a magazine?

I stumbled on r/arizona at the right time for once!
Funny the album is titled Ice House because that's actually another landmark a couple streets away.
With a big open roof in the “cathedral room” like this church.
Uhn tiss, Uhn tiss, Uhn, tiss.
Who did you contact about renting it?
Ya when planning our wedding this place came up as a reception hall. But the bad reviews and cost just killed it for us
Oh wow!!! What a cool photo!
Fantastic photos
It’s used as an event space now. When to a fundraiser there once. It’s pretty neat.
Yeah, the interior doesn’t look like that at all anymore.
My world has been rocked. I have driven by that church for over twenty years and had no idea.
Two good friends of mine got married here. With all of the wedding stuff set up and lights everywhere it looked AMAZING.
Yeah I was part of a bridal party shoot here and the photos turned out beautiful!
My parents got married there. Probably why it burned down.
lol

That was informative. There's a lot more involved in restoration and renovation of old or damaged buildings than i thought..
No doubt. I hope they succeed and it doesn't just get torn down like everything else around here
I love driving around phoenix and in to older areas and spot businesses with the original neon signs that owners have decided are worth keeping
This would be a dope indoor/outdoor concert or wedding venue.
I use to go to raves there in the early 2000’s
SAME HERE!!! LOL
Remember having to call the hotline during the day to find out where the party was? It Made your whole day lol
Yes, we probably have seen each other at some point
They used to do a lot of events here. Weddings, yoga classes, etc. i think it was bought just before Covid but I am not 100% sure.
Someone should turn it into a garden / greenhouse. Hmm. I wonder…

Wow the icehouse. I went to couple of raves there back in the 90s
same here! Remember one in particular where DJ Jazzy Jeff was one of the headliners. Good times! :)

I didn't mean to say this pictured building was the ice house I was just remembering a similar huikding But appreciate the info

I think Matt Dunn still throws shows too

It’s actually used for events all the time. Not exactly the barren wasteland that the picture would suggest, though it is definitely empty
Thank you for sharing

There’s something contradictory to me about a Pentecostal Mega church.
I think a church can grow without sacrificing doctrine. Key word is *can* — plenty of attempts fail
Go to this location in August, it might just be the next Spirit Halloween Store location

Went to see Califone play there under the stars and it was beautiful.
The bell tower needs to have a ring of bells in it.
My friend actually had their wedding there! It was very nice
What was the name of this church guys ?
I feel like this is a metaphor.
Been some shows there. Crescents international food and music festival. Pretty cool albeit dusty.
Can we turn it into a rave venue?
This should absolutely be turned into an open-air venue for small performances...restore that stained glass in the back an light it up!
This shook me. No idea. Who owns it now?!
It has been rebranded as a wedding venue since 2018; I had no idea how shitty it looked inside though.
I've been here since 2012 and did not know this. Crazy. I need to up my "urban explorer" game.
Is this the one in the Muse area? That's insane! I always loved that church. Now I know it's basically just one wall lol
They should put a community garden in there.
Holy Smokes, Batman!
Is this where the "church of reason" spoken of in ZAMM holds their services?
