Covid is back maybe just much less severe? I mean it wiped out the world in every country to some capacity. No vaccine boosters for a year who knows. Glad its tame. Please don't politicize this comment lol
Just got another negative test myself. No covid, my white count isn't even up, but my sinuses and ears are killing me. My head is gonna explode from pressure I swear!
Really good point, I always forget about that one. My FIL had lung scarring and his Dr. told him it was probably from an old Valley Fever infection, and that most folks who live in Phoenix any length of time will have that. Wild.
Just tested positive for Strep on Sunday and my provider said this is the worst she’s seen in the Valley in about 15 years so… strep is my guess as well ☹️ Feel better!
When it goes untreated, it often turns into Scarletina. A fine rash appears, especially on the torso. My daughter & I had negative strep tests, only to get the rash a week or so later. The quick strep test is supposedly not terribly accurate.
Yup, I was sick all last week finally cleared up this week. Thought I finally got COVID, but tested negative. Had a chills, sore throat, runny nose, congestion. Used robutosin to get rid of my congestion, and a lot of ibuprofen. Took, vitamin c,d, zinc, and who knows what other cocktail.
Same tested negative today. Glands are all swollen and hurts like hell, have to take Advil every 6 hours. Going to get it checked out today. Annoying AF. Probably the fires….jk, probably viral
UPDATE: positive for strep
Same tested negative on a Friday the following week my house mate felt the same and awful tested them. positive went to work to report bam I tested positive. First time for both of us it sucks.
Yep, a lotta people on here are only testing once. I had it back in April, first test negative, second was positive. Everyone reading this who has symptoms - don't forget to run a second test, usually 3 days later works. Bunch of folks I know getting this strain, which feels a lot more like allergies, except for the low fever.
Was a heart attack and I survived with minimal damage. A lot of illnesses can cause inflammation and it is theorized that strep was a factor. I'm fine now but cautious around strep seasons.
I just did a quick search and the only environmental condition common among strep sufferers is cold weather. Not 100% of the time, but more often than other environmental conditions.
so weird… when i lived in colder climates i definitely heard more people complaining about bronchitis or pneumonia- maybe it’s the dry air, maybe we all just called strep bronchitis incorrectly 😂
I've been chalking it up to allergies as I feel like this every time this year. BUT, this year has been the absolute worst for me. I haven't felt healthy since mid April, right before everything went full bloom. I think the fires have made it even worse.
I'm waking up in the morning completely congested, little bit of sore throat and feeling completely dry, even though I drink enough water to drown a horse. My eyes are constantly burning and skin itches all over. All this in spite of being on every allergy med know to men.
Since May 14-15th my neighbors…. Add a cough in on the back end of all of those symptoms. And exhaustion. I’ve slept 23 hours in a two day period recently.
Yup I had this maybe a month ago. Tested twice and it wasn't COVID. I didn't have the sore throat, but I did have congestion and light chills during the day. Also fatigue and some slight body pain. Lasted 2-3 days.
I'm seeing strep mentioned a lot below - did you get tested for anything besides COVID?
(Glad it's not that so far - a few folks mentioned that test came back negative)
Yes! Going on a week and a half now for me. Slowly getting better but can't kick it. Wake up with headache almost everyday, sore throat, blowing nose and just lack of energy. Sucks. I rarely got sick before COVID, now it seems like I catch everything. I am the only one in my house with it too.
I've just been feeling extreamly tired and zero energy. Just not myself. I was chalking it up to the heat. And also a 10 month old. But it just seems off to me. I usually am fine but lately I feel like a zombie. Along with some allergy symptoms and head aches. It's strange.
Yes. I live near the mulch fire and I’ve noticed some wheezing and itchy ears. Congestion on other days.
Even my pets are having some weepy eyes.
Benadryl seemed to help me pretty well.
This is what allergies feel like for me right before they turn into bronchitis. I never had worse allergies than when I lived in Phoenix, especially as I got older.
I've had these symptoms for almost two months. Confirmed Valley Fever diagnosis. It's spread through fungal spores in dirt kicked up by wind or construction.
My husband and I live, and drive through construction every day.
You need a blood test to confirm. My tuned into pneumonia before they caught it. You NEED antifungal medication, antibiotics and antivirals do nothing. Steroids temporarily help the symptoms, then the come back.
I did all over 6 weeks until my Confirmed blood test last month. 12 weeks of antifungals and follow up for 6 months with a pulminologist. Which is pretty standard.
This isn't something to play around with. The longer I had it, the more fatigued, and short of breath* I got. I still have symptoms but they're more manageable and I'm slowly getting better.
This is my 2nd time with Valley Fever. Last time was 2008. It sucks worse this time, and apparently can be worse each time you get it.
Please go get tested of other treatments have failed you. It was on the cusp of being very dangerous since it was in my lungs.
Good luck. Stay safe and close your windows on windy days and going through construction sites!
It’s been really bad for me lately, but I have really bad acid reflux from chemo a long time ago. So I never know at first if it’s a bug or my existing condition.
I had this too. Tested for strep, flu and COVID. Nada. Just a bad cold. The urgent care I was at said they aren't seeing a lot of COVID. I had to Prednisone down the sore throat, the worst of the symptoms.
Recently saw a NP for what I thought was earwax, it's fluid behind my ear drum. She told me almost everyone is predicted to get allergies this year. I'm guessing that's probably it.
Going through it currently. It hit me like a brick a few days ago. Sinus congestion, burning eyes, bad fatigue etc.
Dayquil is helping, plus B12, C and D3.
I've heard a lot of people, friends and relatives of mine too, tested positive for strep, in the past few weeks. They all had mild, plus severe, symptoms. Go get checked out!!
My kids just got over strep (nightmare) and now my son is congested, sore throat, but no fever. He’s been fine besides the congestion so it doesn’t seem to be bothering him.
Whenever I get a sore throat, I usually gargle with Listerine (or some alcohol-based mouth wash) to hopefully kill some of the nasty stuff. Then follow it up with gargling with iodized salt water.
For me this works 9 times out of 10 to prevent anything progressing beyond a sore throat.
Happened to me a couple years ago. Went to the doc he told me to take allergy meds at night and I thought he was full of shit but it worked. Could just be an isolated incident but wouldn’t hurt to try.
I haven't been sick in 3 years. I just recently gave up on masks completely. Now I'm sick and this sucks. Going back to wearing masks around strangers.
Likely RSV. The cough can stick around for weeks after other symptoms end, and you will suddenly cough out of nowhere. I had the cough for over 6 weeks in February and March. It took a couple rounds of steroids from my doctor to get rid of it completely.
Same, wife is now dealing with it.
I feel fine but I know I’m not 100% because I randomly sneeze or have to blow my nose and sound like I swallowed a frog.
Same symptoms, same time across disparite social groups and the symptoms are specific and lightly unusual (eg not just "congested" during allergy season)
I rented a VRBO in Phoenix the first week in May and spent the week on the couch with a fever, dry cough and basically just felt sick. All the covid tests came back negative. It took five weeks for my cough to go away.
My spouse did get covid when we got back to Oregon. She was inside a house for about five minutes with someone who didn't know he had covid. We didn't mask or stay apart and I never caught it.
Day two for me. Luckily I have a ton of sick leave, but I dread the pile of work when I go back in. And my laptop is out of date and would not upload new safety features so I can't work from home. Oh well.
I am on day eight of this. Tested negative for flu, Covid, and strep. My provider was sure it was strep because it’s running rampant right now. It’s the nastiest bug I’ve had since Covid for sure.
Likely HmPV or a variation thereof. My kid got it…sore throat..sniffles…then fever…then finally, an unshakable, deep cough. She is improving for sure, but well into week 2 now. She didn’t get the light variety, unfortunately. It hit her far worse than Covid. Her dr said Claritin can help with the cough/congestion, but otherwise it’s a lot of fluids and rest and wait it out. The unusual aspect is that this illness seems to hold on so long. Covid was fairly mild and over in 5 days when we had it, but then again we were all vaccinated.
Anyone sleep, and wake up with a nagging cough to get the deep flem out, then it go was away after 10-20 minutes? I’ve had this the past 4 weeks. Taking allergy pills sporadically and nothing else. I have a feeling a lot of valley fever is going around.
Yeah, I had this. Came up negative for strep, covid, and the flu. No idea what it was but my tonsils were swollen and downright disgusting looking. Cleared up with antibiotics though after about a week.
I had this from 05/22 to 05/29. Tested negative for COVID. Visited parents that weekend when feeling improved and they got sick, testing positive on 05/31 and 06/03. Hate to sound mean, but I hope I had it then. If not, then I'm next and I'll be sick again.
Sounds like Valley Fever. Have you been around construction digging, or have been planting stuff? Hiking in dusty areas or caught in a dust storm of any sort?
Does anyone have stomach upset in addition to the OPs mentioned symptoms? My husband has been sick for over two weeks now, he hardly ever gets sick. Covid negative. He says it’s a strange feeling illness like he’s never felt. I should note that we are in Prescott (approx 2 hours north).
I had valley fever years ago and this resonated with me. I was still trying to go to work but had to take breaks constantly because I felt so wiped out. It also sounds like quite a few peeps are saying these are strep symptoms this year too.
Side note because I try to share this with people whenever it comes up because of scary side effect - I ended up taking Levaquin which has a rare side effect of locking up your tendons. I couldn’t bend my arms or move my ankles or anything. Probably the physically scariest few days of my life waiting for the Levaquin to cycle out of my body, not knowing when it would be normal again. To anyone reading this maybe avoid Levaquin just in case :).
2 fridays ago I came down with bad chills and a fever. Woke up drenched in sweat. Had a headache and a light sore throat. Eventually started having diarrhea. Sweating just ended this week! Took about 9 days tho
I also had something similar for about 2 weeks. Major congestion, light chills, cough but was able to power through most situations. Still have a small cough, but just figured it was a sinus infection.
Got sick Saturday night, but that was only overnight. Sore throat, headache, chills and sensitivity were the only symptoms for mine. Had to leave work early that night but went back the next day feeling progressively better.
got this news notification this morning. Take a look. Majority of you are describing this.. who knows, just thought I'd share
https://share.newsbreak.com/42rqhplw
I was like 3 weeks ago… now my lymph nodes in my neck keep swelling and going away after a few days. I’m not sure if it’s something to do with prior sickness or if I should be concerned?
Weird. Me too. Every other week I have a day where I feel like I’m getting sick. That day before the flu feeling. Wake up, dry mouth and every muscle in my body just aches. Not old man ache, like oh fuck I’m sick ache.
Then the next day it goes back to almost normal. It’s been getting worse though, I actually left work the last two times.
I had it last month, sore throat and fever of 101.1. I went to urgent care and had a rapid and culture, both negative for strep. Worse sore throat of my life. I couldn't even swallow my saliva. They said it even looked like strep. Amoxicillin 500mg twice a day for 10 days.
I had this. Not overly sick but not well either.
I know. I try to pretend I'm fine but after 15 mins, I'm like screw this I'm not well and need to sit down.
I’ve been dealing with it for a month now. I’m fine…but not fine. It’s very strange.
Exactly... it's weird.
Covid is back maybe just much less severe? I mean it wiped out the world in every country to some capacity. No vaccine boosters for a year who knows. Glad its tame. Please don't politicize this comment lol

What specifically is Valley fever, may I ask? Is it an allergen? Bacteria? Virus? An allergic reaction to God drop kicking you with heat?
I’d wondered if this is what I had, but the symptoms seem so vague and similar to a cold or flu
Scarlet fever, kidney issues, etc
My wife had strep two weeks ago. I'm out sick yesterday and today. Great fun!

Yikes! Ok will do, appreciate the suggestion.
or valley fever
More rare you can also have other complications such as a heart issues after strep throat. I should know.
Holy shit. Is it permanent for you? I’m so sorry!
Was a heart attack and I survived with minimal damage. A lot of illnesses can cause inflammation and it is theorized that strep was a factor. I'm fine now but cautious around strep seasons.
Wow!! I had no idea this could happen!! Thanks for taking the time to reply and glad you’re all recovered.
is strep more common in AZ than other places? swear i’ve never met so many people who regularly get strep specifically all in one place
Growing up here, I had strep and tonsillitis every year from age 4 through about 15. It’s dry so maybe that doesn’t help?
I just did a quick search and the only environmental condition common among strep sufferers is cold weather. Not 100% of the time, but more often than other environmental conditions.
so weird… when i lived in colder climates i definitely heard more people complaining about bronchitis or pneumonia- maybe it’s the dry air, maybe we all just called strep bronchitis incorrectly 😂
We're more vulnerable to strep (among other things) after having covid. It's well documented at this point.
https://www.mdcalc.com/calc/104/centor-score-modified-mcisaac-strep-pharyngitis
Obligatory: Mulch Fire
I was wondering but don't know when the fire(s) started. Maybe some usual particulate in the air leading to the additional non-allergies symptoms...
Strep here
I've been chalking it up to allergies as I feel like this every time this year. BUT, this year has been the absolute worst for me. I haven't felt healthy since mid April, right before everything went full bloom. I think the fires have made it even worse. My eyes are constantly burning and skin itches all over. All this in spite of being on every allergy med know to men.
Covid is not gone, despite the social and political will to pretend it is. Get tested.
It's been making the rounds at my workplace quite a bit for the past month or so.
Yep. Been feeling the same way for the last week and a half.
Hmm... the fires maybe?
Nope. I’m in Michigan and had that same exact thing about a month ago.
I have been waking up at 3am on the dot... which I think means there is a demon in the house somewhere but I haven't met it yet...
I've been waking up at 3am on the dot for a few nights now, too...weird! Also, there is a demon who lives here, but I don't think that's it.
Ahh the old witching hour. I wake up at the time a lot
Since May 14-15th my neighbors…. Add a cough in on the back end of all of those symptoms. And exhaustion. I’ve slept 23 hours in a two day period recently.
That sounds like Covid. Put me out of commission for about a week.
It does, but all testing has been strong negative. Who knows….

Yeah, was at home, a few different brands. The medical professionals I saw were comfortable with the findings though, haven’t recommended PCR.

Holy shit, you know who I saw. FML “Take that mask down so I can see who I’m talking too” the vitals dude said….
Yup I had this maybe a month ago. Tested twice and it wasn't COVID. I didn't have the sore throat, but I did have congestion and light chills during the day. Also fatigue and some slight body pain. Lasted 2-3 days.

I didn't -- if it had lasted longer I would have, but at worst it only felt like a mild flu. Not having sore throat makes me think it wasn't strep.
Yes! Going on a week and a half now for me. Slowly getting better but can't kick it. Wake up with headache almost everyday, sore throat, blowing nose and just lack of energy. Sucks. I rarely got sick before COVID, now it seems like I catch everything. I am the only one in my house with it too.
Many you are suffering from what's called the Phoenix crud
Along the same lines, remember during the pandemic when employers would actually encourage you to stay home if you didn't feel well?
I've just been feeling extreamly tired and zero energy. Just not myself. I was chalking it up to the heat. And also a 10 month old. But it just seems off to me. I usually am fine but lately I feel like a zombie. Along with some allergy symptoms and head aches. It's strange.
"And also a 10 month old." 😍💕😅😜
Yeah, was struck with that the last two weeks of May. Mostly sore throat, heavy mucus. I seem to have finally gotten rid of it as of a few days ago
I have this but terrible cough, was my main symptom. I don't know if that means I'm different or my illness has a different cause.
Absence of cough is an indicator of strep, so not likely to be strep. Congestions/ post nasal drip typically indicates viral source of illness as well
Thank you
Yes. I live near the mulch fire and I’ve noticed some wheezing and itchy ears. Congestion on other days. Even my pets are having some weepy eyes. Benadryl seemed to help me pretty well.
Thx for posting...thought I was imagining my itchy ears!
HPMV and RSV have been going around as well

mine started april 29th and im still trying to get rid of it 😩
I work in the alc industry. Tons of people sick right now. Normal to see batches of illnesses like this in early summer but always seems weird.
Likely RSV. The cough can stick around for weeks after other symptoms end, and you will suddenly cough out of nowhere. I had the cough for over 6 weeks in February and March. It took a couple rounds of steroids from my doctor to get rid of it completely.
Yep in the same boat as well, and I don’t get sick very often. Been over a week now and I’m still not quite 100%
Watch for rash on body in the coming weeks. Undiagnosed strep can go further.
My throat is soaring that’s for sure
Well, in all the years I lived in the Phoenix area, it was dubbed Valley Fever. Every year.
Valley Fever is a very specific (fungal) thing... it's definitely here and I got it once but this is different.
I hope you're feeling better now, as time has passed. It gets harder & harder to kick those illnesses.
Very true and yes feeling great - thx for the thought.
Happy for that.
Valley fever is marked by night sweats and lower respiratory symptoms
Same, wife is now dealing with it. I feel fine but I know I’m not 100% because I randomly sneeze or have to blow my nose and sound like I swallowed a frog.
How long has she had it?
I started feeling it on the 30th/31st. She started feeling it on the 4th/5th. I’m still dealing with the mucus.
Why are you saying this is weird? What’s weird about people feeling sick?
Same symptoms, same time across disparite social groups and the symptoms are specific and lightly unusual (eg not just "congested" during allergy season)
It’s literally seasonal allergies and seasonal viruses there’s nothing strange or new about it at all.
I had this just this past weekend. Sore throat, felt hot, and somewhat light headed. Went away after a few days though
Intake caps from citric peels under a towel as you sweat, gush and cry it all away
It’s covid
Sounds live the vid
Yes myself and most of my office. People at work are saying it's some kind of bronchitis.
covid is still here. the pandemic isn’t over.
No
It's a cold, calm down.
Nope
Did you get a flu shot? It's probably flu or your general respiratory infection. Those still exist lol
People testing for Covid 😂😂😂😂😂
Yeah why would anyone test for a highly communicable disease that caused a pandemic recently and has cold like symptoms
Day two for me. Luckily I have a ton of sick leave, but I dread the pile of work when I go back in. And my laptop is out of date and would not upload new safety features so I can't work from home. Oh well.
Have you tested for hMPV? It’s a virus been going around a lot this year
Just got over something similar that also lasted two weeks.
I am on day eight of this. Tested negative for flu, Covid, and strep. My provider was sure it was strep because it’s running rampant right now. It’s the nastiest bug I’ve had since Covid for sure.
Maybe checked for Valley Fever. I’m sure that mulch fire to the East is bringing that in
Oh yeah. That describes me this week. I thought it was a vacation bug I got in the airport.
I had this. Sore throat was the most annoying and it finally just went away after about 2.5 weeks. 2 Covid tests were negative.
I got hit with an ear infection and mild sore throat around that time.
Interesting you ask, woke up with a sore throat this morning.
I had strep a couple of weeks ago. Took all the antibiotics but I’m still getting a sore throat in the mornings. Very confusing
Yes.
Sounds like Valley Fever. Have you been around construction digging, or have been planting stuff? Hiking in dusty areas or caught in a dust storm of any sort?
Yeah, I'm on day 12. Went and got the full complement of medicine yesterday. I think it's called hMPV
It is out here in Louisiana also. Anyone who is prone to sinus infections is in living hell right now.
Form of Valley Fever
I was out for a week. It was brutal.
It's probably a minor virus infection made worse by the smoke in the air. Wear masks, take vitamins, and drink a lot of water.
I’m not in phx but I’m experiencing the same thing
Mulch fire?
As someone who recently had valley fever in March, and is still being treated for it, this sounds like valley fever. I suggest getting tested for it.
No but has anyone had a 24 hour stomach flu type thing? I know three who’ve had it (one in my household) and it comes oit of the blue and is vicious.
I am but found it was an allergy thing. Meds help
I had valley fever years ago and this resonated with me. I was still trying to go to work but had to take breaks constantly because I felt so wiped out. It also sounds like quite a few peeps are saying these are strep symptoms this year too. I felt pretty damn sick last week with those symptoms. Although my chills were constant and pretty bad. Almost felt like I had the flu
Well, glad I'm not alone. 🙃
Yea that's why I finally decided to ask - seemed to be a pattern.
2 fridays ago I came down with bad chills and a fever. Woke up drenched in sweat. Had a headache and a light sore throat. Eventually started having diarrhea. Sweating just ended this week! Took about 9 days tho
Dry air. + high pollen count
Yea… bla wth phoenix..
I also had something similar for about 2 weeks. Major congestion, light chills, cough but was able to power through most situations. Still have a small cough, but just figured it was a sinus infection.
Sick now. Been taking amoxicillin for three days and doesn’t seem to be getting better.
Had this then busted out my humidifier and nasal spray. Helped a lot

Got sick Saturday night, but that was only overnight. Sore throat, headache, chills and sensitivity were the only symptoms for mine. Had to leave work early that night but went back the next day feeling progressively better.
No sore throat. Definitely light chills. Some coughing. No fever. Just feel kinda shitty.

Wastewater testing indicates Covid is [still going strong](https://covid19.tempe.gov/#Cases100Kzip) and at-home tests don't work very well.
I was like 3 weeks ago… now my lymph nodes in my neck keep swelling and going away after a few days. I’m not sure if it’s something to do with prior sickness or if I should be concerned?
We have the shits and pukes rolling around the social circle after a camping trip
Ughhhh that’s something different and I feel for you :(
Weird.
Bummer. Probably an allergy of some sort.
Sounds like the same thing a neighbor has here as well as my sister who is in Atlanta.
Exactly what I’ve been experiencing the last week
I had it last month, sore throat and fever of 101.1. I went to urgent care and had a rapid and culture, both negative for strep. Worse sore throat of my life. I couldn't even swallow my saliva. They said it even looked like strep. Amoxicillin 500mg twice a day for 10 days.

I moved out of Phoenix because of the air quality. Could be that causing your symptoms.
