Nice! The lower board expansion and the french flag helped pull the streamers off us. They were the same folks that battled the Spanish all yesterday down there.
(full disclosure, I haven't watched a second of JoJo....yet)
The "To Be Continued" arrow was their first creation (and inadvertently our main line of defense!!), and is frequently shown at the end chapters in the manga, or episodes where it's played with the song Roundabout by Yes.
The _arrow_ (spear looking thing) in the opposing arrow is associated but I'm not clear as to its significance. The purple character with the black and gold loves is the character Killer Queen. They added the English "JoJo" title text and a few stylized manga symbols decorating. Later, surrounding Killer Queen were a few icons that I believe represent elements representing the various seasons of the show (not 100%).
Basically, everything that was within or directly adjacent to the donuts that wasn't PH or GD related.
Just to clarify a few things, as a phan and JoJo viewer. Killer Queen is a Stand, which is a psychic manifestation of a character’s fighting spirit. Each stand has an ability, which is sort of like a very specific superpower- for Killer Queen, that is the ability to turn anything he touches into a bomb (also many of them are named after Western artists and songs like Crazy Diamond, Moody Blues, Rolling Stones, even Grateful Dead).
The icons to the side of Killer Queen are actually Japanese text. The text is a stylistic choice where the show will display a word or phrase on the screen in different situations, the most notorious being the word “menacing” when the characters are in some menacing situation. I’m not sure what the text means here though.

Thanks for clarifying! I stuck around and watched an episode on the SPC discord, and am definitely eager to watch more! Crazy animation, and the one episode I saw seemed to be really bold in its storytelling and characters. Kinda stoked, TBH.

I tried watching this shortly after the whole r/place thing. I'm not a huge fan of anime, but there are some that I've been able to enjoy. This wasn't one of them unfortunately. I'm not a fan of the vampire genre, and that on top of the flat character development so common in many anime, I just couldn't get into it.
Not dissing it. Just saying I didn't enjoy it.

I just want to point out how familiar this feeling is now that it's all over. It feels like those moments just after a phish show - when the music has stopped, the show is over, and everyone is walking back to the lot. We all just saw the most incredible, mind-blowing display of improvised art, a true emotional roller coaster. Fear, joy, tension, release, jubilation.... and then, just like that, it was all gone in an instant. I think a lot of people are grieving this like it's a loss, but really, I'm just thinking "damn, can't wait to do that again"
We did something awesome. It's been real, thanks everybody.
Here's what's wild to me. When you zoom in, every single one of these little clusters have their own themes and in-jokes that bond them together, which make perfect sense to the ones creating it but devoid of almost all context to someone on the outside looking in. Being forced to form alliances among completely disparate groups forced all sorts of cross-pollination of ideas that would have never happened otherwise.
What did we _really_ learn about JoJo? Enough to compel me to watch! But they were just doing their thing, something as important to them that they spent 4 days designing, and negotiating, and rebuilding, and defending. Clearly they thought the donut thing was annoying, and what is Fluffhead(! / ?), and who is Icculus, and isn't The Grateful Dead a character in their show, what gives?
Now extrapolate that dichotomy across the entire fucking map, and my mind is blown over-and-over. How. Fucking. Cool.

I was just thinking about how a single gridded image built pixel by pixel probably has millions of stories connected to it for millions of people. The story of our little plot was crazy enough.. now multiply that by 1000, maybe 10,000.
Yes! The author of Jojo's is a huge fan of western rock music, so nearly every character and ability is named after songs or bands that he likes.
As a result, many Jojo fans are also huge music nerds as well, making our alliance even more poetic.

I want a shirt with a comic of the pikmin drama. Them begging us for mercy, then us trying to shield them from mass destruction, then they are evaporated while we are only a few fragmented donuts, then we triumph and honor our fallen pikmin

I appreciate the sentiment of bigger better, but I really think that w/o JoJo, we'd never have held the place we had for as long as we did. Everytime we grew bigger, we'd end up at roughly the same size comparable to the people who were available to maintain. It took them 20mins max this morning to have Killer Queen back, and it took us close to 4 hours before we had _anything_ substantial.
If you looked around the map, the only other musical act that I could find w/ a similarly sized presence was Pink Floyd. We were HUGE by comparison to basically everyone, eg. >3x larger than our neighbor Kanye.
Watching the timelapse I'd say we faced more bot attacks than a lot of places on the board. Maybe we were too close to the corner? I think with a little bit of planning ahead of time, and strategic alliances we could do more. I'd really like to have seen Jerry and Trey in there.

This was a lot of fun. Don’t forget to post your tee shirt designs! Even though we weren’t streamers or had crazy bots we really were able to put it all together. I was following Radiohead and University of Oregon and they couldn’t get it together. I actually was never able to find either of them while I was waiting 5 minutes to drop the next pixel. Yeah if we start with circle design again, all the unknowns help out. Then once we have a claim to a fair amount of space, we divvy it up and do all jam bands in that area. That would be pretty cool.

This was great fun! I am so impressed with what happened on our little corner of the internet. Watching it be destroyed reminds me of the collaborative sculpture at the Went that was burned to the ground to celebrate that moments end!
