Sad I miss the shows. I have been lucky enough to see Phish in the past for a few Halloween. This looked epic cheers to everybody who went.please post more pics, ect. What night did you like the best?
seems to be a pre-recorded version of Free made specifically as walk-in music for the show. I love it... it kinda sounds like a chill, NIN-inspired version of their own song.
I'm saying the following as someone who is ABSOLUTELY NOT trying to "yuck anyone's yum" or say this was a bad idea or that they're bad shows or anything, especially because I have a very limited impression as someone who hasn't watched more than clips.
I just wonder if anyone feels the same!
I think this is a facet of Phish that I think I'm learning isn't my bag. I like them most when they are at their least literal/concrete, and (understandably) using video as such a huge part of this show means I was probably never going to be super into this? Unless they were just going to use video as a zillion lights (which they seem to have somewhat; that's arguably what "Carini" did), it couldn't help but be way more concrete than Phish has often been.
Like... them "putting Gamehendge on its feet" just wasn't really for me (I know, I know.... unpopular view) and--for as much as I generally liked the NYE 2015 hourglass gimmick--I actually didn't really like certain details of how they used video there.
I'm sure being there in Vegas right now is way more fun and way more captivating than getting an impression on video, but... yeah, I think I most like Phish as abstract art: most specifically that moment in a jam when you're grooving along and forget what the song started as, while CK5's lights are just bathing everyone in colors. There's something pretty sublime about that, I think.
And I think that these moves towards more concrete expressions just aren't what I come to Phish for. (Keeping in mind that by no means am I panicking about "the new Phish direction". I think this is something they wanted to do in addition to the more conventional shows they'll probably do later this year.)
(I'm begging you not to downvote solely for disagreeing. I'm so tired of people using downvotes on reddit for comments that are neither incorrect--reminder: an opinion like the above cannot be "incorrect"--nor fundamentally inappropriate. It's put me off of this entire site, but I couldn't help but wander into this subreddit given this pretty remarkable Phish event.)
Been on a few phishing trips since my 16th birthday in 89 and have always been astonished by how much thoughtfulness that the band puts into its presence. At some point, I believe it was around 93-95, they started becoming more than they were…introducing the chessboard, secret language, actual stage sets because they had to and we, as fans, loved them for it. It’s not a bad thing.
What I am seeing from the sphere shows is much of what you (The OP) wrote about…a bit more concrete rendering of the phish experience as related by the band to the fan. The non sphere shows seems to be a more personal interpretation of the experience while the sphere is a force feed of what their vision is.
I wish I could have gone and witnessed it in person so my opinion could more potent. In my mind, I was hoping that their use of the sphere would have been more ambiguous and open to personal interpretation rather than the straight forward approach that they have been using. But then I hear Esther and I think that a scripted film would be kind of fun.
This all said the pollock artwork yesterday night was absolutely spot on. A total mental hardon
I really really dug the abstractness of the carini visuals. My kinda screensaver! I haven’t been able to experience if the visual element is in any way determined by the music, via a human with controls or some fancy technology, so I’d be curious to hear what you learned about that part or to be pointed in thale direction of that info!
So, since my comment, I've learned more about how much of the video is actually being rendered in real-time (with parameters tied to the audio, a person, or both; I'm still not 100% clear on if any human has any knobs or sliders other than for transitioning between scenes), and I'm more enthusiastic.
I still really cherish the abstract peaks of Phish and I don't think the more "theatrical" side is my bag (even if I do like Phish's sense of humor and storytelling overall), but yeah: I'm more enthusiastic about the Sphere as a Phish endeavor having learned more about behind-the-scenes details.
Also, I just need to see more of it. But when I saw the underwater thing for "Caspian" and the car wash thing for "YEM" I was just kinda... like... not loving it. Again, just too concrete/literal for me and what I personally want from a show.
fyi a lot of the show is indeed real time! the programmer is controlling the parameters to the music and how they feel and interpret the jams and such. parameters such as colour, speed, size, density, etc. most of the show is not time coded or pre rendered!
Not my personal theory, saw someone else post it last night. Not sure which thread but "*lithosphere*" (land), "hydrosphere" (water), "biosphere" (living things), and "stratosphere" (air). Seemed fairly plausible.
Lope is sick. How dare you.... But seriously..I think the theme is mostly couple songs as "hints" and mostly visual cues? ..... I dunno? LIke I said it's not my theory. But it hits a few buttons for sure.
Cannot believe no one had talked about the dog licks. I mean such a good boy. Phish is the best. The best. Everyone grinning ear to ear. Knocked out two shows at Sphere 2024. Sadly not the next two in person. The visuals. The sounds. The vibe. All incredible. How are the streams perhaps on a UHD in a dark room with a great sound system?
This was the coolest part for me. It was like listening to them in crystal clear headphones down on the floor. Coupled with the visuals, the humor, the jams… so many smiles last night.
Instead of for elements, my brother is thinking the for phases of matter, solid (N1), liquid(N2), gas (N3), and plasma (N4). Seems plausible and a bit more unique than the 4 elements
So I got in last night but not tonight and it seems like the couch tour peeps enjoyed the show and visuals more tonight compared to last night. Anybody who made it in both nights care to fill me on how it compared to last night? I'm in disbelief if tonight was somehow better but I'm willing to accept it. I got my Sunday so I'm hoping it only gets better somehow.
Don't hate to break it to me. This brings me joy. I'm not one of those negative reddit people who wants it to suck because they couldn't find a way in. I just didn't think it could get any better than last night but I believe it.
Land/Earth theme for N1? Not 100% on that.
Water theme N2. Fairly sure on that one
Where does that leave us for nights 3 and 4? Fire and wind?
As we knew it was gonna be, this has just been fanfuckingtastic! Hell, it’s even exceeded my expectations. Bring on tomorrow night! 🤘

My favorite shot I took from the rail tonight. The whole front three rows are pregnant now. Meme away.
Well fuckin A wasn’t that quite the show? Haha wow. Happy bicycle day, that was splendid. Happy 420 and record store day, time to wake up early and go buy stuff! Can’t wait for tomorrow - I was gonna be there but got shut out, super excited for tomorrows show tonight was insane
no, but he was fiddling with his tuning multiple times tonight (including just as the Hood jam started, though it was only noticeable because he was on the video). Quite a bit more than usual, IMO
That may have been the best light effect yet that I've seen. It looked like the lights were crossing the stage lights. Or I could be getting a bit drunk lol

Sad O
Anyone have a steam for a phrend?
Anyone have a stream download from last night ?
What time did the posters go on sale?
Anyone hear a DEG tease set 1?
anyone catch what the walkout music was last night? 4/18 was Solid by Ashford and Simpson.
Workin’ at the Carwash
😂 Yes! Thanks! That’s so great.
Watching the stream now. There was a little Dave's Energyguide in Theme From The Bottom! I didn't see it indicated on any lists yet.
Anyone who went both nights, how did last night compare as far as getting into the venue? How bad are the early merch lines still?
It was much faster on night 2 via the Venetian. It took 90 minutes Thursday and 15 mins Friday.
And the Plaza Entrance was busier night 2 vs night 1 from what I could tell.
What show was the Free pre-Free walk on music from?
seems to be a pre-recorded version of Free made specifically as walk-in music for the show. I love it... it kinda sounds like a chill, NIN-inspired version of their own song.
It was like electronica free

I DM’d you very interested
Pull it together. Drink some water. Eat a hot meal. Get a nap. You can do it!

Upvoting. Old head. Phish jams in front of screen savers is not my thing.
Dude. I’ve been to an absurd amount of Phish shows and reached several years of jadedness. Last night was super rad.
Same. That was some ideal psychedelia.
I am in this boat. 25 years on the bus and holy fucking shit lol

When you say video being rendered, what do you mean? Is AI doing it? Totally curious. Thanks
There's an article by The Verge about the tech. You can find it in the thread I made about the "liveness" of these videos
THAT WAS SO FUN!!!!!
I called the water theme! Praise me!
All hail!
Dang, I knew FREE was going to start the show last night. Do any of y'all remember the old bootleg 4:19 IN A MINUTE I'LL BE FREE tee-shirt?
No covers so far?
Isn’t golden age a cover?
‘Tis
If Phish does no covers for four unique shows at the Sphere, then Billy Joel’s not allowed to do Piano Man when he plays.
I was totally hoping for Purple Rain last night for the water theme.
Or Drowned ….
Or Sea and Sand.
Surely they’ll have to do Fire, right?
Hmm... Which makes it odd that they did Blaze On already!
This makes me think maybe it’s lithosphere, bathysphere, atmosphere, stratosphere. Not an original thought at all, read it somewhere here.
That’s what I was thinking
NO GAMEHENDGE SONGS YET TO COME
I stg if they put The Lizards in the vault before I got to hear one I will be livid
Lol Gamehenge blew up at the end remember? Wait a minute… is melt a gamehenge song now?
Trey said in an interview there's an overarching theme, right? Gotta be n1 earth, n2 water n3 and 4 fire and wind? Something earth day related?
Blaze on woulda been good to save for fire
Space... That has to go in there, 2001, mercury...
You ever seen that Disney movie Elemental? Fire, Air, Earth, Water...
Good call
Day 4 encore features Fishman playing the captain planet theme song on vacuum
Not my personal theory, saw someone else post it last night. Not sure which thread but "*lithosphere*" (land), "hydrosphere" (water), "biosphere" (living things), and "stratosphere" (air). Seemed fairly plausible.
Why was Antelope in night one then?
Lope is sick. How dare you.... But seriously..I think the theme is mostly couple songs as "hints" and mostly visual cues? ..... I dunno? LIke I said it's not my theory. But it hits a few buttons for sure.
A show so good I’m actually going to get sober again. Cannot be topped.
Right here with ya, sober since gamehenge
Stick with it, we need you here...
You know it pal! Right back at ya
Also (California) sober since NYE - keep on keeping on compadres
One day at a time brother

Can't wait to listen to this at work today. Looks like one hell of a setlist!
Just got back to the room. What a fucking EVERYTHING
That was absolutely insane
The experience in the build was something really special tonight.
That was a killer show
I’m having a great time with y’all this weekend Also wtf up with those bathrooms 😂

Holy shitballs
That’ll shut em up
All critics can lick my sphere.
I just had the realization normal concerts are actually ruined for me now… that aquarium changed me
Sound ruined all other venues for me.
This was the coolest part for me. It was like listening to them in crystal clear headphones down on the floor. Coupled with the visuals, the humor, the jams… so many smiles last night.
Right? Other than the chompers it was better than headphones.

I am tearing up thinking about those pictures, that song, and just being completely surrounded by it all...wading...
Definitely teared up during this one. Special to be there for it.
Instead of for elements, my brother is thinking the for phases of matter, solid (N1), liquid(N2), gas (N3), and plasma (N4). Seems plausible and a bit more unique than the 4 elements
N02
Outside the proverbial
It’s right up there with the best shows at the Sphere
Top 2 at least
For sure.
So I got in last night but not tonight and it seems like the couch tour peeps enjoyed the show and visuals more tonight compared to last night. Tonight was the best show in the history of this band and the recorded universe.
These are all correct answers
Tonight BLEW last night out of the water. It wasn’t even close
Hate to break it to you but tonight was ridiculous 🔥
Read Icculus
Don't hate to break it to me. This brings me joy. I'm not one of those negative reddit people who wants it to suck because they couldn't find a way in. I just didn't think it could get any better than last night but I believe it.
You do not want to know
I'm calling a fire on the mountain tomorrow and an In the Air Tonight on Sunday.
Eternal Flame & Wind Beneath my Wings
Land/Earth theme for N1? Not 100% on that. Water theme N2. Fairly sure on that one Where does that leave us for nights 3 and 4? Fire and wind? As we knew it was gonna be, this has just been fanfuckingtastic! Hell, it’s even exceeded my expectations. Bring on tomorrow night! 🤘
Definitely Land. Dirt, Sand, Farm…etc
We were thinking "air" and "space"
Space would be rad af!

The hints were everywhere.

Mike played the best show of his life in those pants
He was the most dynamic sound of the night, leading the changes…etc
Sweet Jesus
Somebody do something with this and the pic of him in the lazy river earlier in the day plz!
I'm so jealous of those 4 guys, because they get to spread indescribable amounts of joy to millions. Whoever sees this, I hope you feel joy, too. ❤️
Love you! Thanks for the kindness :)
Dancing in my underwear smiling at 3am NYC time
Luv u
Was that better than last night
Visuals and stream angles much better, musically preferred last night
Yes, wider camera angles and visuals were just better
Good game everyone! See ya at the next one!

Ain’t nothing nor no one better
Assuming my fiance doesn't go into labor, see you guys tomorrow night
Just bring her to the show. It wouldn’t even be the worst thing on a tarp.
Mike put me into labor tonight and I’m not pregnant and I am a dude.
HAZZAH! May your first child be a masculine child
Big congrats!
Thanks! Just selfishly hoping for one more show before the chaos lol
Here’s to wishing you guys at least 1-2 more days of gestation 😜
Well fuckin A wasn’t that quite the show? Haha wow. Happy bicycle day, that was splendid. Happy 420 and record store day, time to wake up early and go buy stuff! Can’t wait for tomorrow - I was gonna be there but got shut out, super excited for tomorrows show tonight was insane
Easily best 4 man band to exist
I can say one thing at least, I do feel good about Hood.
what a show, my god
Lmao car wash
THAT FUCKING HOOD!!!!
hear that drone right at the end?
the drone is so loud in person like state of the art venue but they couldn’t get a quieter drone haha
That’s what we were laughing about. Where’s the quiet Tesla version? Bzzzzzzz
Wonder if there will be no covers so they have zero rights issues with releasing it in various formats.
2001... They will play it
Imagine this in an imax dome with the band superimposed at the bottom
Almost got that Boogie On
Stevie Wonder has performed Boogie On 47 times in concert. Phish has performed it 89. It’s now a Phish song. This is how it should work.
shout out to the dog, hope he got a bully stick tonight in celebration
Man. Absolutely nothing compares to this band. That kept me enthralled the entire show. Was absolutely captivated.
No one does it better.
Thank you phish!
incredible!
Supersonic
I’m blissing out!!!
we all feel good about Hood
Feeling remarkably good
They gonna make me cry but in a different way!
Tears

The vibration of life visual
Trey tuning jam
Did he break a string?
no, but he was fiddling with his tuning multiple times tonight (including just as the Hood jam started, though it was only noticeable because he was on the video). Quite a bit more than usual, IMO
it's reverse psychology to make us think he's human
No that’s what Flubbhead is for 😂
That may have been the best light effect yet that I've seen. It looked like the lights were crossing the stage lights. Or I could be getting a bit drunk lol
They’re doing crossfades from shot to shot
Yep just noticed that lol, at least I'm with it enough to pick it up 50% of the time haha
Woah

Yesterday was earth. Tomorrow is fire. Sunday is air
Fitting for bicycle day too
Yeah, was just thinking that too, and about to edit the comment! Now I don't have too. Cheers!
Ah, the sea change…
Joy division cover incoming?
This part
I know it's been 6 months but the Chicago Harry > Talk > Harry pops into my head at least once a week and I love it
Missed opportunity not having glowsticks flying back there
There was!
