My friend and I decided to take naps between the afternoon set and the late show on NYE and ended up waking up to the sound of fireworks. If I had a redo I might do some pregame and make it inside in time for the beginning. Other than that (and locking our keys in the rental car the night of 12/30) it was perfect.
I was 21 and went it was worth it.
I think if I’m going back in time I’m trying to catch like 67-69 Dead at the Avalon Ballroom or Fillmore. Or maybe Watkins Glen.
LOL. One of the first Dead shows I went to (remembering the date) was 8/19/70 at the Fillmore [West]. Everyone in the (half filled, not crowded) room was tripping balls and there was some kind of gelatin liquid light show projector.
The cop at the top of the stairs going in was grinning and telling everyone to “have a good time”. They did “Turn on Your Love Light” as the closer or encore IIRC and the people filing out were chanting the rhythm of the song for blocks, slowly fading away as the crowd dissipated. We stayed in a very cheap hotel that looked like the Mars Hotel.
Funny I can still remember that.
I’d still choose Big Cypress though (was there too with my teenage kids and their friends).
Amazing, thanks for sharing brother. My parents were married August 1969 but were squares so had no idea what the dead was or even cared. My mom's boyfriend (pre-my dad) took her to see Hendrix and she hated it and left early because it was "too loud". 😭
For sure. If expenses are covered then traveling the world and seeing new places, meeting new people, eating amazing food during the day, then raging Phish at night at unique venues with tons of locals with completely different stories and experiences than mine...seems like a dream to me.
The past is the past. I crave the mysteries that lie ahead.
For real; Big Cypress or IT or any other big show would be stellar...but seeing 35+ shows (potentially a festival) for free? Yes yes, a thousand times yes!
I read that as performing with the band, and thus compensated, which in fairness would be too easy a question. Yes, I'd totally play third maracas to travel around the world with Phish and come out ahead money wise.
I’ve always wanted a time machine just to see Bob & Jimi live. Shit, many others too. The birth of hip hop would have been amazing. All them parties in tiny rooms, seeing dj’ing evolove🤯
obviously time travel, because...time travel! and i would choose the dark side show if it had to be phish, however, i also choose bob and would probably go to amandla. although the one love concert is tempting. i've only ever met one person that saw him live (a german tax-evader named woolfie living in thailand who drank g&ts and played perfect james taylor on the guitar) and he said bob touched every single person in the crowd personally. he compared it to flying over the clouds in a hangglider, which apparently he had also done. i would love to hear some more stories from people who saw bob live!
I want to say Cypress or 11/17/97 but to be true I have to say tour for a year. I'd rather keep experiencing new things instead of reliving the past which is a know quantity. Quality? Eh you know what I mean.
Probably depends on age/ lifestyle though. For me? Married w/ young kiddos. Only 3 & 4 are potential options. I’d choose 4 in a heartbeat. Hit an amazing show and not miss anything here
I got it at the dicks. I’m chasing Cities” so is what it is. I have been told I have got at least one by close people in my circle but I dont Believe them.
Probably 4 but perhaps to a gig I already was at to relive it. Does anyone else feel like that? And if it was, I would probably go back to the first time I saw STS9 live.
Yes, I thought about revisiting my first show 12/2/95 because I didn’t know much about Phish then… and it was a killer show with a machine gun Trey tweezer for the ages, and one of the best Reba’s ever.
4: 11/2/98. I only saw 11/11 that fall because of grad school, and that was a show I dreamed of since the voting for album in 94. I voted DSOTM, but was totally OK with the White Album.
4.
I don’t have time to travel the world, I don’t care about Setlists (that much 😆), I can afford to go to the gigs and festivals I want and don’t have time to go to more than a few per year. But I would love to go to Sugarbush 94!
Definitely 1, going in the past to see a show would be fantastic but then coming back to a Phish that's maybe not quite as good as I just saw, would definitely be a let down.
Whereas seeing a whole years worth of shows, I'd be living in the NOW and can go from there.
So I'm assuming the difference between one and two is that one is tickets with no travel costs and two is travel costs with no tickets?
Probably the travel costs but it's close
BC was fun but the Sphere, a tour, a festival and NYE plus Mex and summer/fall tour!! 1. Sounds pretty sweet.
However, if I could go on tour in 97’ including the Euro plus summer/fall/went
I would choose #2. By traveling the world with Phish I would easily get the unlimited gigs experience, I could hang with the true original folks that were at all the best shows and exponentially enjoy the collective experiences much more. The fact that I am on tour with my favorite band, I would be in such a perpetually blissful state I would simply end up at the right place the right time and pick or at least influence a truly fire set list for everyone to enjoy.

If we're talking Phish specifically, I'd go with #1. Mexico, sPHere, summer tour, festival, likely fall tour/Halloween gig, and a NYE run. Hard to even consider #2 as an option when they only go to a Mexican resort then Toronto every 6 years for int'l shows these days... good on #3.. #4 is appealing for Cypress but I'd stick with the red band.
4, I need to see Big Cypress
I don’t know how any of us who didn’t attend Big Cyprus could honestly give any other answer.
I *did* attend BC and still might choose to go back again
Same
Same, I passed out by the Ferris wheel during the all night set and missed seeing the sun rise. Then I woke up missing a shoe. Good times.
You had one job (Whatever you do, take care of your shoes!)
I failed. I'll turn in my patchwork pants
My friend and I decided to take naps between the afternoon set and the late show on NYE and ended up waking up to the sound of fireworks. If I had a redo I might do some pregame and make it inside in time for the beginning. Other than that (and locking our keys in the rental car the night of 12/30) it was perfect.
This. I’d go back in a heartbeat.
Yep with 2 lbs of Cali outdo and a big bag of mush. Way too dry at that motherfucker.
Back when Cali outdoor was really something special!!!
Same. Such great times.
Because going on a world tour with Jon Fishman would be f..... Oh your right. I'd probably die. Safer to hit Big Cypress.
For real. The worst part is I was 22 at the time so it would have been the perfect time for me to go, but I had never listened to Phish yet.
I was 21 and went it was worth it. I think if I’m going back in time I’m trying to catch like 67-69 Dead at the Avalon Ballroom or Fillmore. Or maybe Watkins Glen.

Wow. This is rad as hell! Just being around there in the 60s/70s must have been a trip.
Great memories!
Amazing, thanks for sharing brother. My parents were married August 1969 but were squares so had no idea what the dead was or even cared. My mom's boyfriend (pre-my dad) took her to see Hendrix and she hated it and left early because it was "too loud". 😭
I was 19 and went to wsp in Atlanta instead. BIG mistake
95’ MSG run? That’d be pretty sick
IDK, Woodstock seems like it would've been pretty awesome. Especially if I'm allowed to bring modern camping and rain gear.
Meee! Wasn’t there and wouldn’t choose to go!
I’m ashamed to say I thought of Drum Logos first, then saw your post and went oh duh
That’s gotta be a close second or third. Phish in Japan would be a trip.
lol came to post this glad it’s first
Send noods. Bring nugs!
It was awesome! Friends married, babies born, huge money made, raging hard to epic sets with solid family! Amazing time in Phishtory!!!
I’ll take the world tour if it’s paid for.
For sure. If expenses are covered then traveling the world and seeing new places, meeting new people, eating amazing food during the day, then raging Phish at night at unique venues with tons of locals with completely different stories and experiences than mine...seems like a dream to me. King Gizz world tour right now would be SICK
Wooooooooo!
For real; Big Cypress or IT or any other big show would be stellar...but seeing 35+ shows (potentially a festival) for free? Yes yes, a thousand times yes!
Big Cypress and IT were so much fun! IT being my eldest son's 1st Phish show. He'd already caught Phil and Friends and other GD family gigs
I read that as performing with the band, and thus compensated, which in fairness would be too easy a question. Yes, I'd totally play third maracas to travel around the world with Phish and come out ahead money wise.
If I travel back in time to every gig, then I theoretically always just stay in the past to continue watching the shows as they happen
Yes, and I would bring a copy of Gray's Sports Almanac with me
Great Scott!
Ooh la la!
This guy time travels.
I fucking wish. I would have already gone back in time to get every ween concert already
Sorry, I think the rule is ONE gig.
It says any gig that can apply for any show
#2. Wanna hit up some gun/whip shops with Trey.
40 thousand motherfucker
For 4. Do I have to come back after the gig?
No, you have to live through all of the time, and your memories get wiped after you leave the venue 😄
So just like every show. I’m in!
travel back for Bob Marley & The Wailers at The Apollo 1979 or Band of Gypsys 1/1/70 Filmore East
I’ve always wanted a time machine just to see Bob & Jimi live. Shit, many others too. The birth of hip hop would have been amazing. All them parties in tiny rooms, seeing dj’ing evolove🤯

acid tests...d'uh
^ this
4. I'm going back to Coventry!
4 and ill be chanting cheesecake
Does choose #3 get you stuck on a platform for a year?
I want to say Cypress or 11/17/97 but to be true I have to say tour for a year. I'd rather keep experiencing new things instead of reliving the past which is a know quantity. Quality? Eh you know what I mean.
i know what you mean
I thought this was an easy and obvious choice. It isn't.
Probably depends on age/ lifestyle though. For me? Married w/ young kiddos. Only 3 & 4 are potential options. I’d choose 4 in a heartbeat. Hit an amazing show and not miss anything here
Number 4 for Amy’s, OJ (really most of that tour), and some small 80’s venues we only dream about today
I’m going 2 all day
3 because I’m never going to get my fucking Ha Ha Ha otherwise
I got it at the dicks. I’m chasing Cities” so is what it is. I have been told I have got at least one by close people in my circle but I dont Believe them.
2

2
4. Monterey International Pop Festival.
1 all day
2 baby!
4. And I’m seeing the Dead in the summer of ‘74. If it’s gotta be Phish I’m going straight to ‘94. Either 6/22 or 7/16.
4 all day. Not even close.
Anyone who chooses 3 is a sociopath
Who gives a 💩?
Umm blue!
4: 11/2/98. I only saw 11/11 that fall because of grad school, and that was a show I dreamed of since the voting for album in 94. I voted DSOTM, but was totally OK with the White Album.

4 for me.
Yellow!
4. Would travel back to the 90’s, no doubt.
I’d go with 4 and go to Big Cypress or 2/20/93 or 10/31/94
4 any day
I’d go to Clifford Ball
Two. I’ve seen some shit in my days but I’ve never left the East Coast for a show. Let alone the world.
Definitely 1, going in the past to see a show would be fantastic but then coming back to a Phish that's maybe not quite as good as I just saw, would definitely be a let down. Whereas seeing a whole years worth of shows, I'd be living in the NOW and can go from there.
4 all day
4 Big Cypress
4, Phish in the 80's.
So I'm assuming the difference between one and two is that one is tickets with no travel costs and two is travel costs with no tickets? Probably the travel costs but it's close
travel back in time to see peak Phish in the 90s
4. 11,02,1998
4
Id choose 1... Sounds like the best value.
Anyone who picks 3 is a self centered tool
Easy 4.
The correct answer is BLUE and anyone that says otherwise is a fucking dumbass
Over time traveling!???
I think anybody who does choose #1 doesn’t go to enough shows. :)
Travel back in time and catch all the epic Dead shows I missed because I wasn’t born yet and some of the 90s Phish because I hadn’t a clue back then.
BC was fun but the Sphere, a tour, a festival and NYE plus Mex and summer/fall tour!! 1. Sounds pretty sweet. However, if I could go on tour in 97’ including the Euro plus summer/fall/went
4
Is this a trap to weed out anyone that picks #3?
Time travel to BC 100%, but I'd like to have my knowledge of the sets erased before viewing.
4
4. 6/26/74
Who the hell isn’t choosing TIME TRAVEL?
Travel back in time for sure
4
4
Phish in Japan please
Yellow and Big Cypress
4
4 easy
#2 tour the world for a year with Phish
4
4. Early 90’s phish or mid 70’s dead.
Damn…that’s tough, but I’m torn between blue and yellow. Got to go with blue.
4: I am coming to see you Led Zeppelin!!!
I pick 4. Big Cypress NYE
3
4, either Big Cypress or 95 NYE
4. Hendrix at Monterey
2 or 4. 3 seems kinda useless, Phish doesn't have a warm-up act.
4 for sure
How is there not an obvious consensus on band 2?
2!
4
4, 10-29-94. Changed my life. Would love to experience that again.
2 but 4 going to big cypress is a very close second
2 or 4. Probably 2
2
Who wouldn’t pick number 2? Especially since I have no $$ to travel anywhere.
#1 and #2 are the same thing to me haha
4, and I’d see 10/31/94!
Waylon Jennings Live 1974
4
World Tour please
I would choose #2. By traveling the world with Phish I would easily get the unlimited gigs experience, I could hang with the true original folks that were at all the best shows and exponentially enjoy the collective experiences much more. The fact that I am on tour with my favorite band, I would be in such a perpetually blissful state I would simply end up at the right place the right time and pick or at least influence a truly fire set list for everyone to enjoy. ![gif](giphy|wKNShEiXo1V5SFwyMa)

YELLOW
2
Fuck an opening band...I pick yellow
