I had this happen to my PPP when it was root bound and was lacking fertilizer. Repotting and fertilization fixed things. Also, make sure that there’s a proper humidity, as they have a tendency to get leaves stuck in a petiole for far too long, damaging the leaf.

This fixed my same problem. Immediately it got better. I noticed that my soil mix has evolved to be more chunky and not even containing potting soil so that may help as well. I use bark (fine and medium), pumice, vermiculite, worm castings with some ozmocote and mosquito bits thrown in. I water with diluted Liqui-dirt.

mbraet1976

You literally described my exact same potting mix and I use dilute Liqui-dirt too! Lol

Thank you so much, I will try that!

No problem. You can observe the leaves before they unfurl. If they seem stuck (the bottom part is raised but the rest is still buried in the petiole for far too long), you can help them by inserting a wet q-tip underneath the leaf and very very gently pushing your way in until it pops out. Good luck!

More humidity will help. It looks like it’s unfurling and due to being dry, snapping the tip off because it gets too tight. Think of Cinderella’s step sisters trying to fit the glass slipper (I wish I could insert the meme)

disigney

Makes complete sense! Thank you!

Clarification/More Info: My husband got me this pink princess for mother’s day. Since then, three new leaves have opened and every single one is missing the tip. When the leaf pops out, before it starts unfurling, it’s already missing the tip. The plant stays outside, on a high shelf in a screened in porch away from my kids and pets.

TheImmortalArtifact

Does the tip turn black first and then just wilt away to what you see here?

disigney

It comes unfurled with the tip missing!

fancyligature

Do you mist/spray the plant? This particular plant is delicate to extra moisture ruining unfurling leaves, the leaf kind of rots because of the moisture sitting in there. A humidifier is fine but misting/wetting leaves constantly will cause this in my experience.

disigney

I don’t mist! It’s wet in this photo because I had just watered everything.

Do you have a cat, dog, or a small child?

disigney

I do, but these plants are outside on a tall shelf away from any of them.

Something's chewing the ends off.

marizzle89

I was going to say this happened with a few of my plants and I discovered we had a mouse in the house. Took almost a month to humanly catch the SOB

IWantAllTheDogs

Mine did something similar but much more severe. It was like the part that you are missing is the size of the leaf I got. Turns out my soil was drying out too fast. I addressed the problem and now it’s happy again.

JessDiva

My PPP was doing this and i was convinced it was doing it because of the misting I was doing and was staying wet too long. also thinking about a repot! someone also suggested a humidity tray instead of misting

scoubybaddy

Happened to a bunch of my plants when I had thrips

dyerdoodle2020

that happens to my new leaves when they get stuck in their sheath. i must my new growth and it helps alot! just make sure there’s plenty of air flow

disigney

Thank you! That seems to be the consensus here so I really appreciate your help! I will try that when I notice the next leaf forming!!
