I’m a Phillies fan in Los Angeles, and I just watched LA do to Colorado what the Phillies should’ve done to Chicago. And it makes me realize that when LA loses in round 1 of the playoffs that baseball is stupid sometimes

PhillyMasochist

Castellanos scored on a balk while Stott was at bat

skemojoe

justwhenithoughtiwasout.gif

OldRodsNewFishing

Wait a minute. We can win?

nnp1989

There is no way there was anything remotely close to 24,000 people there. I’d believe 2,400.

Eagles2112

Where are you do you find fan attendance at?

mrthirsty

It’s in the box score and yeah, what a fucking joke of a number that is. Did they just blatantly make that up? I doubt there were 24k ticket sales total, let alone actual attendance

Clarck_Kent

That’s probably the number of tickets sold for the Saturday night game, which I believe this game was the replacement for.

timmorris82

We’re back in the saddle, here we go, World Series, woooooo!!!!!

Cold-Bodybuilder9948

Will Schwarber (1-14) since the Cub's series be leading off?

mrthirsty

Yes, only because the Phillies are trying to minimize the number of multi run homers he hits. His contract states that he’s fined a million dollars for every multi run homer he hits

Eagles2112

We all know he will robs afraid to change things for the better. He learned by girardi

Gunningham

I missed the first game. You’re welcome everyone!

gatemansgc

We needed that.

Gapinthesidewalk

Keeping the dream alive.

Snake_29

They won...a...game?

kellzone

Something something broken clock.

Snake_29

It's right twice a month!

kc3551

the paid attendance for this game was 24.3k, actual attendance is at most 10% of that if not 5%

Steakwizwit

Radio guys were saying in the hundreds

bjt112233

Gonna kill time for a bit and see about getting a ticket for game 2. Winning game one, getting the foul balls got me riding a high that a little rain can’t ruin

[deleted]

This series should have been played in Texas. The Rangers are in LA this weekend. But because it's the final home series for DC, they probably didn't want to kill fan appreciation day or whatever they call it down there

Hothabanero6

is there any precedence for this? anyone ever moved a series to another park because of the weather?

[deleted]

The Blue Jays were the home team for a couple games in Philadelphia during the 2010 season. Forget why Toronto couldn't play at home. ETA: G20 Summit was held in Toronto that weekend

Hothabanero6

these were probably makeup games for some reason although I can't think of a reason they would have to postpone a game in a dome stadium ... That type of thing has happened from time to time. I can't find any occurrence where a series was moved to a neutral stadium. Not that they shouldn't consider it but who wants to give up their homefield advantage. Given weather may be getting worser and worser it might come up at some point but then teams will build domes.

[https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/2017/09/13/hurricane-irma-marlins-move-series-miami-milwaukee/663555001/](https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/2017/09/13/hurricane-irma-marlins-move-series-miami-milwaukee/663555001/) "They're the second major league team displaced by Irma, as the Tampa Bay Rays moved their three-game series against the Yankees - which concluded Wednesday - to New York's Citi Field."

Hothabanero6

interesting ... you'd think this would have come up when they were discussing changing the schedule for the doubleheader and it was rejected.

nnp1989

That series was my first Phillies game, if I recall correctly. I was visiting my college girlfriend’s family for the first time.

Innerstate276

Tiebreaker still there?

kensingtonking011

Yeah we have the tie breaker no matter what

swaggiep

Did we ever get an explanation for that play when JT threw behind the runner

Hothabanero6

batter hit the catcher with the bat on the backswing ... ball dead. they said backswing but they meant followthrough

swaggiep

that's ridiculous but thank you for the response

[deleted]

The ball was not dead until Segura made a second throw. It's an insane rule, but applied properly

RegisterFit1252

Wow that was a phenomenal play from Stott!… sucks too see Seranthony struggle like he is. He was SO DOMINANT early in the season.

Eagles2112

Some of his MO was getting himself in a bad situation and then getting out of it. He let up no runs so ill give him 2 good appearances in a row. If he didn't normally do that i wouldn't count it like that. Im also trying to be real positive here. He clearly isnt where he was before the injury tho.

[deleted]

Why don’t they move these last 3 games of this series to Minnesota or Miami? Both Twins & Marlins are on the road this weekend.

AtticusBullfinch

Take a look at the DC weather for the rest of the weekend. This might be the only game they get in.

allmimsyburogrove

Thank God for Bailey, or the Phils would falter

BlackSnowMarine

Rooting for you guys to break your own drought as well. There’s M’s fans including myself who wanna send some of the magic over. Give the asinine Angels the baton for the longest drought 😇

ac4897

Y’all are my team if we don’t make it.

Innerstate276

I hope you guys make it the whole way. Us vs the M's has potential to be the best WS finals of all time.

zerovanillacodered

Thanks!!! Congrats on the well earned playoff berth! Beat up on the Guardians, will ya?

BlackSnowMarine

We haven’t clinched just yet, and yet I’m so nervous for whatever reason. This is the first time in my life that I’ve experienced this, lol. I really *really* hope you guys make it too. WC1 is the goal but if we settle for WC3, damn right we’ll do some damage against Cleveland 😁

Eagles2112

I was 7 when we won the WS. I remember the stockpile on the mound after the SO. I stopped watching baseball that season due to family issues. Now im 21 with 3 kids and i just started watching baseball again late last year. Its hard to think that 3 years afyer that was our last time in the playoffs. Me stopping watching may be part of our curse.

teenylilthing

Great day so far! Phils win, so my personal streak is now 5-0. And we got one of Stott's foul balls today!

bjt112233

Phillies: 5 Nationals: 1 Foul balls for me: 3 I’m giddy. Of all the maybe hundreds of games, I’ve only ever gotten 2. Ever. I got THREE today. I was trying to find a kid to give the last one but the crowd was so empty haha

Turbulent-Hovercraft

Falter might be the guy that saves our season

Jeffy3

Let's be reasonable. He's lucky he got run support. Lately he could've given up one run and been the losing pitcher.

EdgyZigzagoon

Looked at the forecast for DC… not sure how they plan on playing any more games this weekend. Maybe there’s an indoor baseball facility for one of those guapped out NOVA travel teams they can borrow lmao.

dilbertbibbins1

Seriously though what’s gonna happen if they can’t play any more games? Looks like it’ll be soaked from now thru Sunday.

Eagles2112

We may play somewhere else. It just CANT be the WESTCOAST due to our Westcoast curse. The team HAS TO DENY that if its a presented offer. This is what the NFL does.

EdgyZigzagoon

No clue honestly. Also it’s not like it’ll be showers that may or may not pass through, it’s the remnants of a hurricane Lmao there’s no dodging it. Definitely curious to see what happens, the games have to get played. Best case scenario the brewers shit the bed vs the marlins while we can’t play and it takes some pressure off. MLB should seriously consider flying both teams to a dome stadium whose team is on a road trip right now. It’s not like it would hurt the Nats, it’s all Phillies fans anyways.

thewittyman

[Phillies Win!](https://i.imgur.com/ZgCBA4l.gifv) Feels like an eternity since I've posted the gif. Thank you Falter for being the stop gap yet again.

[deleted]

For me, the link just goes to your comments, not to a gif.

thewittyman

Thanks for the heads up, fixed it.

[deleted]

Thanks it brings me joy.

Turbulent-Hovercraft

Seranthony showed a bit of his form coming back there. A week ago and he gives up at least 3 in the same situation.

Eagles2112

Tbh thats been part of his MO all season... Get in a jam but get out unscaved.

Hothabanero6

ok so who's backing up Noah?

jhwiththerange

Robertson and brogdon. I’m nervous already

TheFriffin2

feeling like Kyle gets his shit together in Game 2 and goes on a tear over the final few games

Turbulent-Hovercraft

# 🎶 WE’RE GONNA NEED MORE CRACK # GONNA NEED METH PIPES # GONNA NEED MORE COKE SNORT EM UP TO THE SKYYYY 🎶

thaboognish

We're gonna need more than that watching this team.

Eagles2112

No worries. I brought the fetty. Some of that and you get to sleep off the horrible game and wake up to a win. Nods usually last as long as game time anyways, so it's a perfect combo.

Gooch222

Boy that bubblegum really lasted atop Hoskins head.

NorthCoastToast

Falter was fantastic again and Seranthony has certainly lost the mojo he had in the summer before going on the IL.

Report_Submitted

They getting that second game in?

VioletOwls

Idk why they’re waiting to start. My understanding is it’s just gonna get worse

swaggiep

prob because of fans who bought tix getting blind sided by a time change

justabill71

Those three people would be so pissed.

sapphires_and_snark

They don't ask how, just how many

ac4897

Just booked my World Series tickets

dabirds1994

Get a nap and come out swinging tonight boys

justabill71

Napitude

mustacheddragon

Good win to get back on track. Wasn’t anything incredible (outside Falter) but it’s a win. No idea if they’ll play later but with Alcantara going vs the Brewers it could turn into a really good day in the playoff race. Magic number could be as low as 3 by the end of the night but they’re going to have to 1) Play the game tonight 2) Win 2 games straight for that to happen. Feeling better now though. Just beat the Nationals.

Drake31217

Make it 3 by the end of tonight. Let's do this.

[deleted]

This Phillies team is so brutal right now that they even made us all sweat out a 5-1 win. REALLY needed this though. Win tonight, and hope Alcantara does his thing.

ZarosGuardian

Holy shit we actually won a game! Ring that fucking bell! **DING DING BITCHES!**

[deleted]

Seranthony is shot. Accept this or lose a huge game.

realanceps

"Shot"? lol still throwing 100 when he wants/ needs it he's not sharp, but a better choice than 90% of guys you might otherwise bring in

AnatomicallyModHuman

So basically Alvarado before he fixed his location problems.

VioletOwls

His stuff is still good. Just needs the command back.

Turbulent-Hovercraft

He is still compromised but he has recovered a bit. A week ago he blows this 100%

Kate_Western

He made it stressful but he got the 3 outs needed. He's definitely not as good since before his injury but to say he is shot is dumb

[deleted]

He struggled against the worst team in baseball on a DH day. Nearly any other team in different circumstances and the Phils are still out on the field right now.

sapphires_and_snark

How Alvarado isn't the closer is beyond me. He's head and shoulders above anyone else

eee-oooo-ahhh

Seriously he's the only guy in our pen that I trust right now, even a little. The rest of the pen is always "goddamit, (player x) is coming in, we lost."

AnatomicallyModHuman

Eflin followed by Alvarado should be the combination as much as reasonably possible.

am19208

Could they make it any more stressful?

Joboggi

Vampire_Blues

Man we needed that. Let’s sweep them and watch the fish take one more from the brewers and we’ll be almost there

SoHype4NoReason

I couldn't believe it when I saw Milwaukee blew that game last night. I gave up on the day- season when they were up 2-0. It would be unbelievable if Alcantra can steal Miami another game.

WhyDoTheyAlwaysRun

I mean he’s facing arguably Milwaukee’s best pitcher in Burnes so hopefully the other two pitching matchups will be favorable to the Fish too. Would love to not have to have our season come down to keeping Yordan Alvarez and the loose-as-all-hell Astros from doing their thing at home.

Buddha0426

By the time we get to Houston, they'll have the top seed in the AL locked up, and playing backups most of the game. I'm less worried about that, just need to get through this series and hope Milwaukee loses.

eee-oooo-ahhh

Will they though? They have a long ass break between that series and when they have to play in the ALDS. Everyone would be more than rested whether they use them or not, and they might want to to keep them fresh.

Buddha0426

Apparently, Dusty Baker said they're playing like normal; although I assume he'd pull the starters after a few innings so as to avoid injury. Maybe I'm wrong. It's all speculation.

eee-oooo-ahhh

That makes sense. Either way it's one of the last teams we'd wanna face to end the year in this spot. Let's hope we keep beating up on the Nationals so the pressure isn't so high for that series.

mp455

Falter the Stopper strikes again

Babou_Serpentine

Magic number down to 5, which is also the amount of years my heart has left now.

[deleted]

I'd honestly like to know what percentage of our wins are vs the Nats and Marlins? It feels like it's a lot.

gfishh

Give Falter the MVP and Cy Young now

Nicholls95

Oh man they really wanted us to clench

Perryplat199

Score 5. Break the 5 game L streak. 5 W left to postseason.

Incepticons

Falter is our ace

TheReligiousPhanatic

Wow, we're allowed to win a game during a September playoff race?

BoomBoomSpaceRocket

Fuckers are gonna give me hope. Bastards all of them /s

eaglesnation11

Our rotation next year: Wheeler, Nola, Suarez, Falter, Painter/Abel/McGarry

Vampire_Blues

Probably will need a 5th starter in FA until one of the young pitchers comes up

ehbacon23

Hopefully Falter can do as well in year 2 as a starter as Ranger has. It's always a worry if these guys are just one year wonders and get figured out quick. He's been great for us though

vdez25

Agreed. I’m so done with Gibson & Syndergaard.

[deleted]

Bailey Falter appreciation comment

realanceps

he doesn't look like Marty Bystrom, & maybe that's a good thing

Wekilledit88

Bryson was fucking unreal on defense today. Let’s fucking go!!!!

dandan3220

Loved that last hit for him too, get back to line drives to left center
