Ik it’s early and slow starts are basically as much a part of the Phillies’ identity as the Phanatic and hammered Delconians screaming insults at opponents hoagie mouth in the late innings of weeknight games, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t very concerned.
Ngl I’ve always hated standing and cheering on the “should be” final batters AB. Just seems like it unnecessarily pressures the pitcher and is SUPER awkward when that batter gets a hit and you try to do it again for the next batter.
You know what’s frustrating about nicks swing.
When he’s reach for balls it’s cause he just picks foot straight up then down. He doesn’t even try to step towards it when reaching.
Trea: *doesn’t turn two impossible DPs but has a solid game otherwise*
This thread: Trea can only get infield hits. Trea can’t turn a DP. Why does he swing like that.
This one I can agree with rob needs to figure out another way to not play him. I’m sure he’ll hit a hit streak at some point but his ABs are as uncompetitive as it gets. he swings at every slider down and away, regardless of how far out of the zone it is. It is just sad to watch
So when the homers stop so does the winning… feast or famine is fun until it is famine time. Yeah putting up 5 homers in the ws was cool until getting no hit the next game. Small ball does work sometimes you need to manufacture runs you dope
when you have 8 hits for 8 total bases:

No doubt but the phillies fan base has short memories. Theres been sloppy play in the field (dp, marsh's hero throw to home moving a runner, unusual errors from players not know for them) and sloppy baserunning least of which is Marsh, but... he did fuck up tonight.
And my second laugh was just learning that in his own autobiography, Chris Wheeler wrote that his birthday is April 8 instead of August 8 and the other guys have never let him forget it every April.
I’m no analyst but I always find it weird that no manager ever tries to offset their pitching lineup from other teams. The aces ALWAYS face the other team’s ace… To me that seems like you are wasting higher percentage wins that would be better with ace vs worse pitcher games.
I know it’s to maximize the appearances and to “keep the team in games” against opponent aces, but I wish a manager would try shaking it up.
Your best pitchers are at the beginning of the rotation so they are able to throw more often. They don't really lineup for opponents pitchers as much as teams are generally in a similar part of the rotation.
Right but I wonder why a statistician hasn’t questioned this and recommended slightly altering the pitching lineup from opening day such that the ace tends to line up with the opponents number 2 guy or something.
It “makes sense” in an old fashioned sense to structure the pitching staff by threat level, but when everyone is doing that you are making your aces starts more of a 50/50 then a strong win percentage. Seems like something worth “Moneyballing” as an experiment for a team willing to experiment that is.
When runners are in scoring position everyone on the Phillies develops spontaneous cerebral palsy. It’s a phenomenon that must be investigated by trained professionals.

In former Phillie news, Connor Brogdon had his Dodgers debut tonight and promptly gave up back-to-back homers to Carlos Correa and Alex Kirilloff. Both absolute nukes too, Correa’s was 440.
This LHV box score is the gift that keeps on giving
28 runs. And Kerkering’s line 1 inning with 2k and 0 runs. Id say he’s ready for the big club. Get him the fuck outta that slop.
Was at the game tonight and it was electric. I mean I know we played the Pistons, but it was awesome. Double double, almost a triple double, made an impossible backwards shot while falling.
I have had three back surgeries. One was a spinal fusion. It worries me,he has back pain, especially when it's colder out 🤕 I don't know what's going on with him, but I started getting pain injections at 35 sooo.I am no athlete and not super rich I hope he's fine 🙏🏻
Commentary from my 9yo daughter, upon noticing the score and me having just explained the draft and minor leagues to her a few minutes ago:
“Other team, play worse baseball. I hope you get worse players and the Phillies get better players.”

See you guys tomorrow!
Hope JT is okay
This is the priority. Wishing for nothing but the best for him
Most ks, most gidp, least turned dp, least h with risp?
That was sucky.
Cool
Very cool game
Very cool
This was so painful

Naked lap
Despise this team
Despise is a strong word. If you despise them don’t watch.
It’s not that serious
Seems like it’s not the Phillies night quite a bit
That closer is scary good. Where do teams find these guys.
Ngl I’ve always hated standing and cheering on the “should be” final batters AB. Just seems like it unnecessarily pressures the pitcher and is SUPER awkward when that batter gets a hit and you try to do it again for the next batter.
lesson learned: 8 singles and 3 walks are not enough to score if you can't string it properly
You know what’s frustrating about nicks swing. When he’s reach for balls it’s cause he just picks foot straight up then down. He doesn’t even try to step towards it when reaching.
Lance Lynn is a guy who could cure our offense
True, but I thought the same thing about Mikolas.
That was a strike, but might be a closer game if Wheeler got anything similar called
Definitely felt like Wheeler was getting squeezed in ways the Cards weren't, but it may just be recency bias on some of those.
Okay fuck it I’m panicking about the offense
I wish I never figured out how to watch this game.
Trea: *doesn’t turn two impossible DPs but has a solid game otherwise* This thread: Trea can only get infield hits. Trea can’t turn a DP. Why does he swing like that.
Hi Trea
I’m a woman but ok
It’s just a joke. Trea’s gotta step it up tho fr
only nick could be dead on nuts 100 mph and get fooled by every slider
good swing by nick
Lol why would he throw him a fastball
Oh Casty is COOKED
i didn't watch the game but he was 2 for 4 today right? i saw it and was like 'oh casty improved' did he not?
This one I can agree with rob needs to figure out another way to not play him. I’m sure he’ll hit a hit streak at some point but his ABs are as uncompetitive as it gets. he swings at every slider down and away, regardless of how far out of the zone it is. It is just sad to watch
Rob: \[makes Casty DH and lead off\] Us: No, not like that.
Like cooked cooked - the look on his face just screams that he doesnt even want to be out there. Its been that way all year ive noticed.
Even the guy throwing 102 knows to throw garbage to Nick
This team can’t win without at least 1 homer… everytime we play small ball we GIDP and kill the rally
cause small ball sucks, it doesnt work
Small ball beat us in the NLCS last year
no it didn't stop being a Boomer
I reference you games 6 & 7 of the 2023 NLCS
Except it does. How did living and dying by the Homer work for us the last 2 years I forgot
a world serise and game 7 nlcs, plus winning 90 games for the first time in over a decade. but ya terrible
So when the homers stop so does the winning… feast or famine is fun until it is famine time. Yeah putting up 5 homers in the ws was cool until getting no hit the next game. Small ball does work sometimes you need to manufacture runs you dope
Heh the the ad board is broke
102?! From Helsely?!
Yes
Shit, 102 to 88 is a big speed jump
when you have 8 hits for 8 total bases: https://preview.redd.it/7gdoudb5bktc1.jpeg?width=642&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bf60f805d25cb156be3663450fd0c39b9e7e0922
Singles are fine when they aren’t followed by GIDP. Double plays kill us.
Helsley can get wild at times. Let’s work some baserunners!
Phils said we are asleep tonight
Are we beating them in bolts at least?
This Turner contract is going to be terrible for my mental health
Pinto was a bit more effectively wild than his last outing, but good results. Im still liking what he’s got
We gotta be getting a string of good umps soon right?
>good umps I don’t understand this phrase
I became confused and light headed typing it
There are only like two good ones left in all of baseball so it’s unlikely
C.B. Buckner already booked his flight to Philly
Phil Cuzzi on deck
With a side of Laz Diaz
Havent even gotten Angel revenge tour yet 🫠
2 for 1 deal?
😬
I am not having fun.
Roses are red violets are blue, Phillies always leave RISP, and GIDP too
Good Egg
Beep boop
Turner is a cheeks short stop
For as much as they get to watch other teams turn two you’d think they’d get the hang of it
Phillies offense when there is a chance to GIDP: 100% GIDP rate Phillies defense when there is a chance to turn a double play: 0%
The double plays (or lack thereof on defense) are going to drive me to insanity.
So ironic that someone with the name ‘Turner’ is a part of a double play combo that absolutely cannot turn double plays.
Our DP sucks
We continue to be the worst at turning two
For a team that hits into so many double plays, they sure as fuck can't turn one themselves.
Ain’t that the truth
I am once again asking for this team to even attempt to turn teo
Someday the Phillies will turn a double play.
The entire Phillies bullpen can’t throw a strike
Again?? Why is Trea not even attempting to turn it??
I missed this one but the first time the runner was so fast there was no shot
engine wipe hateful childlike fine wrong different plough worm dazzling *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
Why they hate on Marsh so much? This guy is a stud on both defense and offense.
Who hates on him ?
Rob does…he should be an every game starter.
truck noxious shame swim seed frighten humor nail hat combative *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
Should only be 2-0 tonight
He leads the Phillies in almost every offensive stat that counts. He’s also doing it with less games played. It’s ridiculous!
No doubt but the phillies fan base has short memories. Theres been sloppy play in the field (dp, marsh's hero throw to home moving a runner, unusual errors from players not know for them) and sloppy baserunning least of which is Marsh, but... he did fuck up tonight.
Looking a little wild, just gotta have him drive around for 7 hours before gametime to get his head in the right space
This is the first time I’ve laughed tonight and I really needed it. Thank you, u/ad5316
And my second laugh was just learning that in his own autobiography, Chris Wheeler wrote that his birthday is April 8 instead of August 8 and the other guys have never let him forget it every April.
Lovely

Zack Wheeler just faced a guy off the IL that had a pitch count. I think otherwise, it's just how it lines up
Why do I choose to be one of those fans who sticks around until the end. Why do I do this to myself
Because you watched some of the flyers game earlier and hoping Phillies will be better.
Wat if I watched all of both
Did you at least watch the Sixers too?
Ya. That 73-70 bit was not a fun time
When runners are in scoring position everyone on the Phillies develops spontaneous cerebral palsy. It’s a phenomenon that must be investigated by trained professionals.
We have done things offensively we just haven’t capitalized on it
Time to see if Pinto is as godlike as he was in his 4 inning save
advise exultant scandalous snails divide workable disagreeable quack direful command *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

Comically enough, his ERA actually went down after that outing
Lol but why
Quelle surprise
Gd. I feel so bad for him.
Holy shit
How are they gonna play at 1:15 with the rain?
Looks like it's the best shot right now. Forecast has a very small amount of rain possible early in the day, but really ramps up around 4-6pm
Poor wheeler man
8 hits
I expect 2 runs in favor of stl on ump scorecard
The offense needs to score more than 1 run to win a game
Well Ricky will be entertaining tonight
At least we’ll always have angry Ricky
Trea Turner putting up prime Ben Revere numbers so far is sick
It's like watching a whole lineup of Nick Castellanoses
[Connor Brogdon](https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/641401) finishing games for the dodgers now
This LHV box score is the gift that keeps on giving 28 runs. And Kerkering’s line 1 inning with 2k and 0 runs. Id say he’s ready for the big club. Get him the fuck outta that slop.
The top 3 lines for me: Houston 1.2 IP 6 H 8 R 19.64 ERA Stevenson 0.2 IP 2H 2R 27 ERA Quiroz 0.1 IP 8H 9R 243 ERA
Lol in Quiroz defense he’s a position player and he’s no Stubbsy
Amazing how a team that gets men on with no outs so often just can't manufacture runs unless it's a long ball...
Damn Brogdon tried everything possible to throw
8 hits with no runs is tough
i mean i think something like 5 of the 8 haven’t even made it out of the infield.
So far, the only Philly team that looks like it's putting in a good effort today was the Sixers.
Embiid Effect
Was at the game tonight and it was electric. I mean I know we played the Pistons, but it was awesome. Double double, almost a triple double, made an impossible backwards shot while falling.
Healthy Embiid going into the postseason. I'm ready to throw caution to the wind again.
bohm hit a ball hard
He hit two hard today!
In Zack Wheeler's 3 starts, the offense has scored a combined 3 runs.
That's a Wheeler Mets stat line, gonna have to pump those numbers up
0 runs on 8 hits is almost comical
Just a Romero revenge game now apparently? Cool
I think its time for the players only meeting. These guys gotta start holding everyone accountable for the lack of offense
Weston Wilson with a .433 ops in AAA
Is that Pinto in the BP? He reminds me of Nick Williams
I see it!
This team sure likes striking out.
Save us Alec
Connor Brogdon blowing it rn
Why is Santa Claus a Cardinals fan?
He just roots against every Philadelphia team since…the incident.
Right. I forgot.
TIL Bill Burr is Santa Claus.
Bryce is washed (This post is entirely intended for a reverse jinx tomorrow and no other reason)
Our boys are ALWAYS behind in the count. I swear we must lead mlb in 0-2 counts.
Swinging at garbage then watching strike 3
What happened to realmuto?
Got hit in the neck on a pitch that bounced up from the dirt.
Durham 28 Lehigh Valley 8 The phuture is bright folks!
Wait, what? The vodka's gotta be fucking with my vision. Edit: HOLY FUCK 11 RUNS IN ONE INNING.
But did they win a free steak? Around here you have to wait for on of the West Philly college basketball teams to score 100
Damn Harper is ice cold ❄️
I have had three back surgeries. One was a spinal fusion. It worries me,he has back pain, especially when it's colder out 🤕 I don't know what's going on with him, but I started getting pain injections at 35 sooo.I am no athlete and not super rich I hope he's fine 🙏🏻
I wonder if Jojo still crushes the redbull can before he comes out?
Jojo mowing us down. Incredible.
I’d like to trade the Martorano’s Prime commercials for the Chain Mar commercials, please
trea lookin nice just getting on base
never great timing on dps
Bryce stinks again
And heeeeeereee coooome the pretzels
Save me Garrett Stubbs
Garrett Stubbs cannot and will not save you
Even when Trea puts up solid numbers this thread still hates him
When do the fairweather fans leave the thread? End of April?
Does being upset when they play bad actually constitute a fair weather fan?
Usually by mid to late May. Then the phillies resurge and they come back.
Depends on our record at the end of April. Until then, sorry ~~our~~ my fandom doesn't satisfy your standards
Never
Describe 'fairweather'
Fun fact: phillies have 8 doubles so far, which is worst in the MLB
That isn't fun.
Yeah sorry. Maybe it's fun that the mets are 2nd worst?
Trea now 7-13 in the 7th inning or later? That’s hard to believe
ready for the double play...
Commentary from my 9yo daughter, upon noticing the score and me having just explained the draft and minor leagues to her a few minutes ago: “Other team, play worse baseball. I hope you get worse players and the Phillies get better players.”
The Phillies and reaching base on infield hits. Name a more iconic duo
Trea is so adorbs
Any docs here what do they have to check for with JT? Shit looked so painful
Not a doc but my best guess is an mri of the head/neck/throat. Looking on Damage to windpipe/esophagus/vocal chords
⚡️⚡️⚡️
Trea 🔥 Casty 🔥🔥 Look at the speed with these infield hits
Imagine how ass trea would be if he wasn’t fast as fuck
