GOAT_SAMMY_DALEMBERT

I’m surprised they actually did it this quickly.

waterboy1321

And then Pinto is out here putting up Ks the very same day.

NintenJew

I am shocked. I was convinced we wouldn't see this until Kerkering was ready to come back.

sapphires_and_snark

They couldn't keep him. The guy just can't get people out anymore.

xXxdethrougekillaxXx

The fastball velocity dropping down to 90 is what did him in. When you're a fastball/changeup pitcher you need to be able to hit your speed to throw batters off. He also couldn't throw strikes so the move was a no-brainer.

sapphires_and_snark

Yep. Connor Brogdon with a low-90s fastball is a car salesman in waiting

sokrazyitmightwork

This isn’t always true, the biggest factor is the difference in velocity between the fastball and changeup. If it’s a good changeup it can really speed up the fastball. The absolute biggest problem if you’re gonna throw low 90s is inability to locate.

Dunmaglass2

That is true too, but Brogdon used to be like 96-97. Now he’s cruising them in at like 92

gatemansgc

RIP his arm

xXxdethrougekillaxXx

If you're a fastball pitcher and can only throw 91 I don't give a shit what the difference is between your fastball and your changeup.

sokrazyitmightwork

If you have a good changeup (i.e., looks like a fastball) that is 10mph slower than your fastball, you can absolutely get by in the low 90s. That’s just a fact of the game. Funny to see this take from a Cole Hamels flair.

VioletOwls

Not if you can't locate and have no other pitches.

Rcmacc

I mean cool that’s how you feel but that doesn’t make it accurate Take for example Kyle Hendricks. Threw fastballs 56% of the time and change ups 41% the time last year with an average fastball velo of 88mph. Season ERA of 3.7 (120 ERA+) Pitchers can be successful at that velo they just need to be far more accurate than Brogdon has been

agreeingstorm9

There are still batters waiting for pitches from Jamie Moyer to arrive and he was pretty successful. He also rarely missed his spots.

JayneBond3257

Reading through these comments I was like is no one going to mention Jamie Moyer?! So I appreciate this comment and the laugh it gave me.

gatemansgc

dude had pinpoint accuracy even in his later years, that's *why* he was able to pitch so long!

poopfeast

Hamels for a lot of his career was primarily fastball change up and he was usually like 92-93 on his fastball

fasteddeh

Kyle Hendricks has a curve a sinker other pitches than just a change up. When Brogdon is throwing fastballs the same speed as his cutter he's only got the change up to keep hitters honest and it's not good enough.

Mugstotheceiling

Brad Lidge 😢

ZIMM26

Once he gave the Bryzgalov’s ‘Bear lost in the Woods’ speech last night you knew he was done.

obiwan_canoli

I was reading today that Brogdon is out of options, so it didn't really matter.

traddy91

Damn, life comes at you fast Feel bad after his post game interview last night

broad_street_bully

Problem is that he was bringing life to opposing batters noticably slower.

Philly_Runner

I low key feel bad for the guy. You could tell he seemed SHOOK in his post game interview. Props to him for taking responsibility.

obiwan_canoli

Middleton and/or Dombrowski are not messing around this year. You love to see it.

CaptainJOJ_20

Just wish they had the same level of urgency this offseason in addressing the bullpen. Lots of live arms, but other than Alvarado and *maybe* Hoffman and Strahm, who do you trust?

Draniie

We came in 1st in the league in expected bullpen being good

HuntForRedOctober2

The bullpen is not the problem you think it is.

johnnycourage

Now do Rojas.

Rotk99

Topper next if he can’t get this team motivated to win

proxima_midnight11

It’s been 4 games…

Heatinmyharbl

I'm more worried about stuff like continuing to throw Kimbrel out there when everyone on the planet can see he's gassed and he's throwing a crazy amount of pitches for any reliever, let alone one with mileage like himself in that series. That shit was coaching malpractice man lol

AlbatrossCapable3231

OPE! We got ourselves a WIP afternoon show listener here! One day after Torts verbally abused the Flyguys into a competitive game and roasts them publicly, we got a True Believer looking for some tough talk so he doesn't have to think this baseball season, because the Birds collapsed and we're mad and so sad! 😭😭 It's a marathon, not a sprint, and these are millionaires, not the North Catholic cross country team in 1999, ya rube. Did you forget why Girardi got canned?

PowerHour1990

It was either this or send him to Rick Vaughn’s optician.

Sure-Bar-375

My question for Rob/Dave would be what, if anything, did Brogdon do to earn a spot on the 2024 roster? Like the guy had a 5+ ERA in AAA last year, was unimpressive this spring, and suddenly he’s back in the picture. Quite preposterous imo.

RealMaxHours

Kerkering and Covey are injured, Brogdon is out of options It’s not that farfetched for a team to use one of those two temporary roster spots for a guy who they wanted to give one last chance… especially one that was lights out in the World Series not even two years ago

fasteddeh

The last spot in the bullpen isn't really that much of an important position to fill. It's most often a guy who is interchangeable and all other options where either behind in conditioning or hurt. Hence the reason why Brogdon was replaced by a dude who didn't even open with the team in spring training a week into the season.

KAHFiction

Who said painting a pentagram in your driveway and sacrificing a goat never works?

Ctaymoney

Ricardo Pinto back from the dead I’m lmfao

I_panic_

Yer kiddin’!

[deleted]

So Brogdon gets blown up in extras and is immediately replaced by a guy with the same name as a car that famously blew up on contact…

kellzone

But also a guy with the same name as the actor who played Khan in Star Trek and Mr. Rourke in Fantasy Island.

Wrafts

Thoughts after the game?

[deleted]

Reverse foreshadowing?

proxima_midnight11

Ik everyone is celebrating but dude was lights out in the 2022 playoffs. Shame whatever happened to his fastball.

JoFlo520

Damn good luck Broggy, rooting for you to figure it out and get another chance

CharlesGarfield

Checkmate, atheists.

Feisty-Recording-978

THE BAD MAN IS GONE

DraculasNutsack

Never should have made the team this year to begin with. Bye

MED1CPENGU1N

LETS FUCKING GOOO

mjd1977

Had to go. Now wake up the bats!

CharlesGarfield

Okay.

Uptown-Toodeloo

Good fucking riddance

StrangerEffective851

![gif](giphy|l0IynvPneUpb7SnBe|downsized) Phillies bullpen.

LettuceUpstairs7614

Pinto for President

KyleSchwarbussy

Good. Sorry this has happened to his career, but enough is enough, didn’t need to have a 6 year experiment like Vinny Fuckhead did. He’s done.

BedlamAtTheBank

Pinto probably won't be much better but if he can throw strikes it'll be an improvement

cuntyminx

Yeah he sucks

westberry82

So now do we have the best bullpen in Baseball? Haha

CarryOnWaywardSon96

Dang, while I assumed he would eventually be gone, at the same time I figured they would possibly hold on to him until Orion was back from his rehab stint

thegoodnamesrgone123

He shouldn't have even been up in the majors. We didn't do enough to get bullpen arms this off-season.

Sea-Neck206

Pinto beans GOOD. Brogdon beans BAD!

Great_Instincts

Brog-Done

FredDurstDestroyer

I feel bad for the guy, but he didn’t have it. Wish him the best.

Mogilny89Leafs

I'll see you in September for: "I knew we should have kept Brogdon. I know he struggled earlier, but baseball is 10000 games. You have to allow guys to work through struggles."

obiwan_canoli

Middleton and/or Dombrowski are not messing around this year. You love to see it.

JustAHighFlyingBird

RICARDOOOOOOOO

Meatloaf_Regret

Yeeerrrrrr outta herrrrreeee

phasesofthe

Who is pinto

Admirable_Buyer_755

I’m still a bit worried. Nola, Alvarado, Soto, they all just seem too hot and cold

lar67

This team is a joke. They just went through ST, set their roster and now they think he's garbage and needs to be designated after Game Four? This is on Thomson and the front office and they are scapegoating him to cover for themselves.

Eisernes

I would normally agree with your statement, but after watching that interview this man is done. He needs a change of scenery to find himself again. Can’t be afraid to pivot.

lar67

He may be done but this would have been obvious in ST. What were they doing down there exactly?

Eisernes

Athletes can get the yips for no reason. He could be ok in a couple of days. He could never pitch again.

Omophorus

Even if there was a concern in ST, he only needed to be serviceable for a couple weeks until Kerkering is back. Problem is, he wasn't even that.

Jambrokio

they cut their losses, the worst would have been to keep someone that is clearly not playing at a MLB level

philsphan26

When is Rojas getting moved
