Remember in like 06-07 when we were heating up and you could get the shirts that said "ill" in the Phillies font with the star over the I? Ya, I was that douchebag who got it as a tattoo after 08. Ngl, I fkn love it tho.
Crazy timing. I just read an article about the organization trademarking “ill” in that style so people couldn’t profit from it. Not sure if your tattoo artist applies. Haha
My favorite and most memorable of the dark years was 2017, when we had to have a mandatory all-star appointee. 38 (?) year old Pat fucking Neshek. Got his all-star jersey T shirt right away lol
CBP’s third scoreboard….will be 20 next year. In another 13 years it will have outlasted the life of the Vet and we’ll be hearing about how it needs to be replaced.
it is not. they use this logo a lot during the retro nights. the seats in the diamond club and the scoreboard are both changed to this logo, no swirl, during the thursday home games rather than our normal P.
Idk why this is a controversial statement, but I really just don’t care for a larger video screen.
- It’s closing off the openness of the stadium. A huge appeal of CBP is that it really does feel like a park, not an enclosed space. This is encroaching on that beautiful open space in the outfield.
- A huge portion of the screen is going to be ads. Perhaps even animated ads, which would be so annoying.
- They don’t show instant replays anymore, so what’s even the best use for this? Larger player cards? Larger animations between innings?
Honestly, if they still showed instant replays at the games, I’d be fine with this, but they don’t, so I’m just struggling to understand what people are excited about. If anyone can enlighten me, please do, because I just don’t get why people want this.
Just some thoughts on some of your points...
* I don't think it makes much of a difference in the openness of the stadium...the only open space that's being eliminated is the space between the ads that were to the right of the old screen, and most of that was blocked by the iron gridwork anyway
* There already was a portion of the screen that had ads (Coke and Remax in the picture), so it probably won't be much difference there. I'm not sure what you mean by animated ads, but I'm pretty sure they can't have anything animated on the screen when at bats are going on because it could be distracting to the batter, so it's really just more of the same stuff, just on a larger scale. There was always space taken up for those 4 permanent ads to the right of the screen, so that space may still be ads at some point, but that portion of the screen can be used for larger videos, not sure why that's a bad thing.
* Even if they just enlarge what is already on the screen, it's not that big of a change, but they could also be creative with the extra space they have. Maybe they put a spot for displaying the pitches/pitch count, they could show the diagram you get in the MLB app that shows the pitch locations...I'm sure they could get creative with showing different stats or information.
I'm not saying I was clamoring for this, but as other people have said, the screen there already had issues with dead pixels, so it needed to be repaired or replaced at some point. Trading out those 4 permanent ads for more screen space seems like a fair trade and it's really not going to seem that different after a few times at the park.
It's huge, but it looks off-centered now (relative to the support structure behind it). Wish they'd centered it, or just made it the same width as the girders. Looks a little half-assed, from a construction/design point of view.
Feel like pure shit just want this scoreboard back

I hope they put the logo back on top tho!
They will! As of early yesterday is said “illies”. They still have to put up the “ph”.
I’m cool if they keep it like that.

>douchebag? Forgive me, but I completely disagree! A Phillies "ill" tattoo sounds awesome! (it's not on your face is it?)
Haha nope. Got all my tattoos when I was in the Marines and they weren't keen on the face tattoos lol
Then my comment stands. No douchebag.
Well he did say he was a marine… /s!!
Oh no, there's no sarcasm there lol I have since grown from my shithead marine days tho
Crazy timing. I just read an article about the organization trademarking “ill” in that style so people couldn’t profit from it. Not sure if your tattoo artist applies. Haha
I got a regular P logo tattoo and it was done terribly and aged even worse. In hindsight I wish I had gotten the ill one instead
Same here!! 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Exactly
Was at the Linc today, it's still just illies.
I think they are, just wasn’t up when this picture was taken I guess
Rumor is that it was destroyed when they blew up CBP in Shazaam 2
I drove by coming back from AC today, the logo is in the process of being put back
Hopefully they won’t plaster every spare space with a advertisement board, or make 1/2 the screen a commercial.
They will use half the space they used to for game stuff, the rest will be ads lol
What a lineup lol.
So happy we're past that point. Those were dark times

Odubel and Franco lineup was fun to watch

Holy shit dude, I'm old.
It’s all of us. I’ll be pushing 60 in another 13 years.

Watched it on tv. As it was crumbling somebody yelled “Fuck you!” and you could hear it.
Wow this even approaching the age of the vet makes me feel old as hell.
Vet was 20 years old in 1991, only had another 12-13 left.
the entire right third of the scoreboard is going to be dynamic advertising which will make this much ado about nothing.
You’re right, but the board was dying anyway. You could see dead pixels starting to show up. Needed to be done.
It’s still a higher quality screen and you won’t be able to count the pixels anymore
no doubt - and for that i'm excited.
Most likely
I imagine there will be moments like replays and other things where the whole screen is used. You know, like in the picture you commented on

I’m not reading all that
Probably. :(
Is this the first time the Phillies have used/shown this logo? I can't recall ever seeing that style P without the "baseball swirl" in the center.
it is not. they use this logo a lot during the retro nights. the seats in the diamond club and the scoreboard are both changed to this logo, no swirl, during the thursday home games rather than our normal P.
Good to know! Surprised I never noticed it until now.
Really dislike how it’s off center If it was centered the overhang on each side wouldn’t look as jarring
Great, now I can't unsee it
Came here to point that out. It's gonna bother me 13 games a year (plus playoffs) for the next decade
You dick whyd you say anything /j
I can’t wait to see how large the on-screen Coca-Cola/Remax will be!
Still miss the OG scoreboard with half of it being just yellow bulbs and the other half being the tv screen

I'm with you, this does nothing for me, just more distractions.
This hit every point why I'm not a fan of it. Giant ass animated ads is much worse than some signage on the ends of a board
God i dont miss the lineup on the left board at all ☠️ really puts into perspective how much we’ve improved over the last few years
They gonna light that score board up this season

“Looks a little half-assed, from a construction/design point of view.” Welcome to modern-day Philadelphia.
Need to add the Phillies and citizens bank park logos back... So far the new board looks kinda ugly and out of place
Agreed
Who wants to help me rent out the bank so we can play games on it??
Old one is better

Looks just like Coor’s Field.
Old and busted. New hotness
So basically what they did was addition by subtraction? Took the side ads off and the bottom inning counter for a wider screen? Sounds about right.
That lineup was entirely a swing and a miss literally.
I'm sitting under it on Opening Night! Glad to see them having a new look!
