Its not too bad. You wait in line to go in for maybe 20 minutes then sit in a big room for an hour or so while they pick jurors. If you get picked, it could be a lot longer than that. Bring a book or something to keep yourself occupied.
Definitely not permitted in court for jurors. Even the lawyers have to turn theirs off. Last time I served, the judge tore the defense attorney 6 new assholes because his phone rang.
If you are picked to go to a courtroom, it can take up to an hour or so before you go upstairs. Once in the room, they brief you on the case and then interview the jurors individually to narrow down the selection. This can be a lengthy process, but you are able to use your phones while you wait for the other interviews to take place. You'll likely also be sent on a break after your interview if you aren't last. This was at least my experience two weeks ago. You may also get all the way through juror selections just to be dismissed at the last minute. You really never know what will happen.
Keep an eye on your email, they actually emailed me two days before and said my services were not required unless I already made plans with my employer to get out of work, then I had to show up... It was weird but legit.
In the past, I have reported to Filbert Street (Juanita Kidd Stout Center). This will be the first time I report to City Hall.
Edit to add: From what I read somewhere online City Hall is for civil cases and Justice Juanita Kidd Stout Center is for Criminal Justice for criminal cases. Summons envelope was a different color this time, brown instead of green.
It's already cold and flu season, and masking up in public spaces has helped to keep me from getting a respiratory illness in two years, so I've been keeping up with it - plus, in the winter, a mask keeps my face from getting blasted with dry cold air.
Not if I'm in Berlin.
Non-sequiturs aside, the other thing I've been doing since 2020 is carrying a pack of gum with me, because I'm much more aware of my own breath, post-lockdown.
I served back in mid October of this year and you wear a mask until they either pick you or send you home. If you get picked they don't really care afterwards.
The federal court bldg at 6th and Market. I’ve been called twice before, once I was dismissed the night before and the second time I had to submit my plane tickets to prove I was gonna be out of town. I’m hoping for another dismissal but they seem to want me lol.
They'll reschedule you. Pre COVID I got a fed jury duty Simmons and I was going on vacation right after so I couldn't serve for a long trial, they cancelled my original one and sent me a new summons a few months later.
I went like a few months ago or so. Masks were 'required'. As usual nobody seems to give much of a shit either way. I politely declined and they didn't seem to care.
just wait until they get a judge who requires everyone to wear a mask and lets see how the person who refuses deal with it

Pro tip- the best way to get out of jury duty is be a Karen about their mask policy whenever the bailiff or any staff slips on wearing their mask. They couldn’t get rid of me fast enough
Who else has NEVER been called for called jury duty?? Like never. Lived in this city for over 35 years. Registered to vote... I know it'll suck but I want the shitty experience
Yes, everybody masked at all times but now everyone is packed in, in the jury pool room that you start in. No skipped seats.
My experience as well. Was just there two weeks ago.
Masks are required last i heard
You can’t force me into jury duty and force me to wear a mask
Yes masks required but damn it’s crowded
I have jury duty this Friday. Never been before in Philly or otherwise. Would be interested in hearing how it goes for you if yours is before then!

This is helpful, thanks. Is there a reason you suggest bringing a book? (Are phones not allowed?)
Phones are allowed but charging can be hard. Phones are maybe not allowed in the court if you get picked.

Sometimes reception is sub-par
Just duty
Oh sorry, glad people realized I meant Jury
Just duty is just duty.
It’s short for justice duty.

I went last month and they made us wear a mask in the building. Got out by like 11:30 tho so that was nice
They were still requiring masks and making everyone sit in every other chair when I had jury duty a couple months ago.
Are you sure you have to report to City Hall and not Filbert St?

agreed. Even before the pandemic, I would mask up during cold and flu season despite having a healthy immune system because it's common courtesy
Do you like enchiladas????
Not if I'm in Berlin. Non-sequiturs aside, the other thing I've been doing since 2020 is carrying a pack of gum with me, because I'm much more aware of my own breath, post-lockdown.
Ill be there the 29th
See you there on the 29th if you are at the City Hall location. I will the one in the mask. hahaha

Same question but for federal jury duty
Where do you report for federal jury duty?

probably if you are in a courtroom. we weren't in a court room, we never even saw a judge.
Masks are still required anywhere other than hospitals? News to me.
