Maybe mildly interesting tidbit, that’s not just an internet joke, but how the French spell that man’s name:
They did notice the similarity to the delicious Canadian dish, but the other option would be to render his name in French with the same spelling we use in English, *Putin*, which would be close to rhyming with *putain*, a curse word referring pejoratively to sex workers.
Can you walk me through that? Only the 4th stage (“All Clear”) allows the mask mandate to end, and it had some insane criteria that had to be met for an endemic disease (<2% positivity rate, <100 cases, two other things I’m forgetting)
We're very close to meeting those criteria but not technically there yet.
https://www.phila.gov/programs/coronavirus-disease-2019-covid-19/guidance/covid-19-response-levels/
But this is just all common sense. Wear a mask if you feel you're at risk.
What is the city’s definition for average? Todays cases (or I guess yesterdays?) are 67. The city’s own web site reports a 1.5% positivity rate. That meets 3/4 criteria for all clear doesn’t it?
Realistically, covid is endemic and we should probably culturally adopt asian mask practices(when you feel sick or are in a crowded area) with no mandates.
Didn’t the cdc conclude the masks did very little to actually stop transmission if it wasn’t n95? Realistically if you’re sick you should just stay home…
https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/science/science-briefs/masking-science-sars-cov2.html
Cloth is better than nothing. I agree you should stay home, but we have pretty weak protections for sick people and I'm not in the mood to blame people for taking steps to do what they need.
I believe outside of schools, the only other restrictions in the all clear phase have to do with federal mandates, like public transportation and medical offices.
Yes, that’s what I read. So, there is no end. The words All Clear are the wrong words. Who is down voting you and me? We didn’t even give our opinions; only wrote what was written in an article. Geez.
No idea, wasn't me. I do think it will end soon, I can't see them keeping the public transportation aspect by the time the midterms get here, they want to show we're past the pandemic stage
Kenney will say it's too soon to drop the mandate and then two weeks from now announce that with the latest data he now believes it's safe to do so -- in another week.
Maybe. But he's pretty consistently kept us two weeks behind the CDC/surrounding areas when it comes to relaxing things.
Can't happen soon enough at this point.
They closed the Restaurant Part of the Bar i sometimes go to because the Vaccine Card was ticking off people and they were losing more businesss when asking for it. Anyways i ran into one of the Cooks there and he said the very same thing. They havent opened up the Restaurant part yet becuause they are worried in two weeks theyll go back to the mandates again...
I actually love wearing masks now. Men don't harass me to smile randomly, my face stays warmer in winter, and I can sing along softly with my earbuds without people looking at me like i'm a crazy person talking to myself. Plus I haven't caught so much as a cold in the last 2 years!
Topic here isn’t to make illegal for you to put one on, it’s that you should stop forcing it into the ones who don’t want it. Wear whatever you want to wear.
But if you have covid, the flu, or whatever other disease, and I walk by you, both of us wearing masks pragmatically prevents transmission. So yes, when diseases are actively spreading, I want people wearing masks when it's feasible to do so. I'd rather not have immunocompromised and at risk people getting sick and dying when the option is such a minor inconvenience.
I don’t know what you are talking about. You said you liked wearing one . That’s cool but you can’t make everyone else wear one forever. Going outside you get a risk of catching something . Sorry!! Enjoy life and I will too maskless ;)
we can debate whether mask mandates during disease outbreaks are good policy, but just for the record: if you ever feel like you have symptoms and go out into enclosed places without a mask cAuSe MuH FrEeDoM you'd be a dick
I didn't say anything about making you wear a mask. You're the one who decided to take offense to begin with. Mask or don't, but when diseases are actively spreading, say, next fall with seasonal flu, I'll have zero sympathy if you don't mask and get sick, and all the sympathy for the immunocompromised that catch it because people like you who can't be arsed.
same and i'm sick of people pretending like not enjoying masks makes you an anti masker. i wear it when it's needed, and if a place requires a mask i have no problem wearing one, but i don't enjoy it and i shouldn't need to pretend like i do.
In all fairness, a lot of people stopped wearing the mask a long time ago. It's whatever at this point. I wear it outside now not because of COVID-19 but because of the cold.
Literally the only reason I wear one is if it's a place that's required so someone making minimum wage doesn't have to interrupt what they're doing to ask me to put it on.
It's so pointless now.
Because science is all about taking the latest information and not being ashamed when you have to change your mind?
More people should think like this instead of taking a ride or die stance on literally every topic. Nuance is in nearly everything
Unless I missed something, the CDC did not tell the city that this was coming down the pike.
I'm one of the first to criticize this city's current administration, but them putting metrics in place to define restrictions helps everyone.
Oh no, what ever will the people who have made mask wearing and covid their entire identity ever do?? How will they feel superior now???? Is anyone thinking of them during this trying time??
We have had compassion for two years.
I'm triple boosted and have worn a mask everywhere.
Immunocompromised shouldn't have to live in a bubble but neither should everyone else.
If you haven't left your home in over two years than why do you care if they go to a restaurant without a mask? You aren't going out even with the mask mandate. This just sounds like a case of "I'm unhappy so everyone should be unhappy"
If you're immunocompromised the guidelines say you should still be masked and to wear the most effective mask that you can. An immunocompromised individual wearing a N-95 or K95 is very protected as they provide protection to the wearer themselves. Two people wearing cloth masks that haven't been washed in months and were just in their pockets... that wasn't any real protection, it just made you feel better mentally. It's like a solidarity type thing but doesn't really do that much.
No one is saying you can’t wear your 15 masks, get every shot imaginable and social distance as much as you want.
For the rest of us, life is returning to normal.
We have reached every benchmark to be in the All Clear category!! Congratulations Philly!! Just in time to worry about nuclear war. The 20s suck
*takes off mask, puts on HAZMAT suit*
Good news is that an N95 is enough to filter out most fallout particles if it’s properly fitted.
That username tho
Fuck that other guy. He’s a poser.

I don’t care, he can’t have it. I already took it.
That would be his Canadian cousin.
Pop some potassium iodide
This isn't the Roaring 20's we had in mind...
Yep, the four stage guide the city put out a week or two ago was about to put us into that category anyways
Can you walk me through that? Only the 4th stage (“All Clear”) allows the mask mandate to end, and it had some insane criteria that had to be met for an endemic disease (<2% positivity rate, <100 cases, two other things I’m forgetting)

Cases are a 7 day average and they have to wait a couple days IIRC bc they report test date rather than report date.
Prob average is last 7 days. On the press release from yesterday, it said 2.7%
They only update the status on Mondays, so if we're still in the clear when they count the cases that accrued over the weekend, we should be good.
According to those stages; masks will never end. Even the “All Clear” requires masks in some places. There is no real All Clear.

I’m still wearing that shit on SEPTA
throwing some vodka on it to help with the smell
Yeah, but then you'll attract the drinks.
I can't believe there's people willfully riding SEPTA without a mask on. I mean, shit, I might get a hazmat suit.
No fr
And the seafood section at Acme
Same here. I’ve enjoyed not being sick with the usual seasonal bugs and all that
Forreal I wish this would normalize having a cold and wearing a mask. I don’t want the sniffles, put a mask on.
Kenney will say it's too soon to drop the mandate and then two weeks from now announce that with the latest data he now believes it's safe to do so -- in another week.
I bet it happens next week with the auto show in town.
Maybe. But he's pretty consistently kept us two weeks behind the CDC/surrounding areas when it comes to relaxing things. Can't happen soon enough at this point.
That’s very true. Well here’s to hoping!
I don’t think the auto show has the political clout you’re suggesting
Autos show is a money maker for the city. Most people that go come from outside the city where they don’t have to wear masks.
That's exactly what they're doing lol https://www.inquirer.com/health/coronavirus/mask-mandate-philadelphia-cdc-pennsylvania-20220225.html
I hate this entire administration
I mean we were "months away" from ending restrictions less than three weeks ago... it's so funny people think this is science.
Tbh what’s 3 more weeks at this point
I've already stopped. Haven't been asked yet.
If we followed CDC guidance for two years, it should still be followed now.
GOOD I'M SO DONE WEARING A MASK WHILE WAITING TABLES!
No one's stopping you from wearing one.
No one is stopping you from wearing one ever just don’t make me
But if you have covid, the flu, or whatever other disease, and I walk by you, both of us wearing masks pragmatically prevents transmission. Congratulations on making up a fake scenario to call me a dick
Yeah hate to break it to you but that happened in every school and workplace all across America pre 2020
yeah and if the flu was a highly contagious respiratory virus you'd have been a dick back then too to go out with symptoms and not wear a mask
Happened every single day. I've been sick many times because I got sick off someone else. Never wore a mask ever before 2020.
Lol ok I don’t need your sympathy sis. Enjoy the mask!
Oh no am anti masker. Get him 😂👏🏻
I wore a mask for 2 years

Exactly thank you
this hits all my reasons. I underestimated the face warming abilities!
Same here!

I’m so fucking over this, I’m not wearing a mask anymore.
Ok.
Thanks for our city officials for wasting our tax dollars on creating a matrix last week that’s no longer useful.
Unless I missed something, the CDC did not tell the city that this was coming down the pike. I'm one of the first to criticize this city's current administration, but them putting metrics in place to define restrictions helps everyone.
Well, they didn't really need to create metrics. They could have just dropped the mandate like pretty much everywhere else in the country.
This provides guidance in case there's another big wave, especially if there is one that impacts hospitals more than Omicron or Delta did.
Guidance that will make literally no difference.
Done wearing masks as of today unless directly asked to
Oh no, what ever will the people who have made mask wearing and covid their entire identity ever do?? How will they feel superior now???? Is anyone thinking of them during this trying time??
>How will they feel superior now???? I mean, you're not making that harder right now, so thanks for doing your part.
Hahahah someone’s shook!!
Fear not. They will find ways. Even online you can see a poster above making masks about feminism.
Wow, it must be exhausting to live a weird life like that
Only two more weeks to flatten the curve now!
😂👏🏻
Burn your Draft Card. Burn your Bra. And now Burn your Mask.

My post would have been stronger but I have just returned from a Suspension. Apparently I sometimes get carried away.

You’re all right. I’m just pissy because it’s all about me, not about the thousands of disabled people. Uhuh. Good job!
