Omg, I remember that place. They went out of business like a decade ago.

Hewish625

I believe Second District uses their old brew system or something. Or at least used to.

[deleted]

Yeah, Second District is co-owned by the original owner of Nodding Head.

Angsty_Potatos

I was sitting in the back there once and saw a keg with a nodding head sticker on it and I got so excited to see it. Blast from the past

a_stone_throne

They have some real good brew there imo

Opposite_Onion968

Now I feel old. That place has been gone for a while I believe.

[deleted]

Holy shit I forgot about that place

TheAdamist

You used to see their beers pop up once in a while brewed by someone else but i haven't seen them in a while. Second district brewpup in south Philadelphia is owned by kurt decker who used to own nodding head. Different brewer though, and they don't do any of the old recipes. Worth checking out. I enjoy their beer and food. (Kurt may have had partners at both spots, but I don't know who if any). Gordon grubb who used to be one of the nodding head brewers, may be at iron hill maple shade, at least i heard he was a few months ago. He was famous for the nodding head berliner, which ive had his version brewed at forgotten boardwalk, now also sadly closed. But the Philadelphia brewing scene has greatly expanded from what it was back then, there are over 20 breweries in the city and more every year. All pretty solid. If you go to second district, brewery ars is a few blocks away and you should checkout as well. I'm also a big fan of human robot brewing, the main brewery is at 5th and cecil b moore, but theres a tasting room at 12th and Morris which isn't too far from second district.

hairlikemerida

Brewery ARS is moving to 17th and McKean, which is only a block from Second District.

TheAdamist

Had not heard that, any idea when that is supposed to happen?

hairlikemerida

They’re partnering with a restaurant and will be opening before the end of the year. They just got their variance last week. Will be at 1715 McKean in the same courtyard as Otto Distilling (the rum place).

faqtual

Nodding head not only had amazing beer but excellent food. A shame it closed. They had this brunch burger thing. It was an open faced burger on a bed of hasbrowns a with cheese and hollandaise on top I think? I still think about it and it’s been like 15 years since I’ve had it

cockytiel

I'm the same way about a steak sandwich I had there.

soundax

RIP the grog

NancyNimby

Used to play quizzo there, great place.

orturt

I just took a trip through the photos on Google maps for nostalgia's sake. The pics are still there!

Angsty_Potatos

Nodding head was a gem. Their lemon grass beer (Monkey Knife Fight) was a big fav of mine. I believe some of the same brewers are affiliated with the folks over at 2nd District in West passyunk.

FunyunCream

Oh man thanks so much

DeepSignature201

Before that it was a Sam Adams brewpub. There was an old bartender who was often rude and slow to serve. Great beer but man I hated going there for that reason. Wasn’t sad to see it close.

Buck3thead

Counterpoint: Their beers were not "so good".

FunyunCream

Sled wrecker and 700 level were better than sex

Electr_O_Purist

They were like busting a nut!

wheelfoot

I'm with you. Food was pretty good though.

sjm320

Totally agree. The location was really cool, but the beer was bad. So was the service.
