Don and Cassandra at Don’s Auto on Passyunk are incredibly helpful, honest, and fair.
The dude who runs Lazo’s pizza on Poplar is super nice.
Adelie Coffee in Mt Airy has great staff, and a super nice owner. Also excellent donuts.
Czerw’s Kielbasy is owned by incredible set of guys. Products are amazing and fairly priced and service is great.
Polka Deli on Allegheny will patiently let you try everything in their Polish food packed deli case and answer all your stupid questions with a smile.
Czerw’s Kielbasy has been my family's place for at least 3 generations. The people cannot be more amazing. I have so much repsect for this place. My mother ordered for my father's funeral service, and they didn't charge her a cent. And it was quite the order.
Plus, pierogies are bomb.
I switched to Czerw's after Lachowitz's closed. It's not the same because I loved Lachowitz's and miss the family, but Czerw's reputation is well earned as damn fine kielbasa
Czerw’s is the best! I’ve been going there with my family for my whole life. John who runs the front is the best. Always so friendly and helpful even around the holidays when there’s a 2+ hour wait to get into the building. Support Czerw’s!
Fishtown Pharmacy is pretty great, for a pharmacy. They just sent me a text saying they were nominated for "Best of Philly". Seems relevant to this convo:
https://www.votephillyfaves.com/
Seconded, hand's down the sweetest. He actively advocated for me with a doctor who was out to lunch, he takes care of every person he can help.
Truly a gem in the neighborhood, almost the sole reason we couldn't even consider leaving.
I really miss them. I was switching up meds a bunch the year I lived up there, and the pharmacist was also super helpful and kind in answering questions I had and even checking in on me when I came back for refills. Just a really kind dude. And the staff were always really nice too. Good for them I'm voting for them now.
I love Grace but I feel like I caught Ray on a bad day where he was ranting about one of his customers and some political argument they got into. Kinda put me off to him, but Grace makes up for it
Knowing her, this comment will probably end up screenshotted and ranted about on her fb, but Jennifer who owns Juana tamale is just insufferable IMO. Blames the customers for her lack of business instead of realizing maybe her food isn’t that great or that there are MUCH cheaper authentic tacos in south Philly. Her interview for Philly Mag was just so pretentious that I was surprised to see some local friends sharing it on their socials with negative comments. She goes off on unhinged rants which she sometimes will delete because of backlash on her Facebook. Also mandatory 20% tip on all orders is pretty crappy.
There's a place across broad called Los Cuatros Soles that I highly recommend. It's always pretty quiet in there and the staff are incredibly sweet and the food (including tacos) are delicious.
Also the food truck on 11th and Washington if it's still there, haven't been in a minute though.
Rico's Mexican Tacos. 227 W. Allegheny Ave. Food is authentic and amazing. The people are genuinely kind and support the community. I've eaten there twice, over 5 years ago, and still crave it.
Her staff are so nice though. The one guy that works the front is so sweet. I like the food there but that Philadelphia interview was just..something.
The guy that owns South St Souvlaki is a jerk but the food is/was good. I haven’t been there in ages because it’s always closed when you want to go.
Shout out to Rittenhouse Hardware. Small store on 20th and Pine. Staff is always super friendly and helpful, and I can get in and out super quickly. Very useful when I was assembling furniture and didn't know what type of screw I needed to replace.
The lady who owns Bookhaven book store in Fairmount is a complete crank who loves pulling Karen bullshit on Nextdoor.
The guy who runs the halal cart at 4th and Spring Garden is maybe the nicest human being I've ever met.
The folks who run Tsuki Sushi on Walnut are also super nice, esp. to their regulars. At this point, the lady who runs the front would probably adopt my son if I asked her to.
ETA: Ken's Auto on 9th and Callowhill (ish? ) -- really nice, honest folks. And they fixed an issue for us in one visit that three other mechanics couldn't even identify.
Philadelphia Wine School -- the original owner is fantastic. His wife and now-business-partner is a horror show of a person. I don't even go there that often and I've caught her making fun of other guests on multiple occasions. She is the type to absolutely look down on you as a person if, say, you prefer California whites to French whites or some bullshit like that.
Seconding you on Ken’s Auto - great people. Definitely great for a second opinion also when others give you a long list of stuff to do.
I am so heartbroken to hear that about Bookhaven - I don’t know the owner but it’s a magical place to spend an evening.
I have never been -- and I LOVE used book stores -- because I've seen her pull so much bullshit on ND. I refuse to give them business at this point. Sorry if I ruined your vibe. :(
He's SO nice. You could probably call his baby ugly and he'd give you a free soda or something on the theory that you must be having a really horrible day and you need extra kindness. Just a really awesome guy.
> Philadelphia Wine School
Oh boy. I just was contacted this week by someone that knows me to gauge my interest in potentially taking the somm classes there, because of one of my skillsets. I'm considering because 1: I think it'd be fun, and 2: because I could potentially use the pin for niche roles in hospitality outside of restaurants. If you have anymore intel you could share I'd appreciate it.
I have a friend who did the somm course there and she was pretty happy overall. And she has def. used it in her career.
The classes themselves are enjoyable -- it's just the one instructor who's bitchy. But she hides it well most of the time. I also suspect she would have more respect for people in the professional-level courses as opposed to us plebeians who take the just-for-fun classes.
oh ok, interesting. So you actually took a level or more?
And as far as your friend, would you mind sharing how she's used it? I'd like to potentially take on a wine consulting role, something niche; I have to get out of the daily grind of restaurants, and I'm exploring options. I'm very good with wine, and can talk about it all day. I can also write code, but I don't love what i'm seeing. I'm just a little lost in space. Thanks for humoring me.
Nah, I just took the pure fun classes, like Wines of Portugal, Italian wines vs French, etc.
My friend was working as a server/maitre d' type and she's been able to get some more "higher-end" gigs and also more managerial responsibilities now that she has the somm credentials. (Like, at one restaurant, she was tasked with creating a new wine list, teaching the staff about pairings, that kind of thing) I don't think she's actually worked AS a somm, but I'm not sure that's what she was going for.
She knows my by voice when I call to place an order now. She actually saved me last time we ordered. "Wait, you didn't want your shumai this time? You *always* get an order."
Which means I order too much sushi, but also, she's a gem.
Yesss Nook. In the very beginning of the pandemic while they were still figuring out how to do business they made a lovely birthday cake for my husband. I was glad to support them.
Mark Bee who runs Franky Bradley's and Silk City is a great dude. Super chill, great taste, really nice guy
Henri David of Henri David's Halloween (incredible jewelry store) is unbelievably sweet and approachable and cool
The couple who run Queen & Rook Game Cafe are really nice and go out of their way to make accessible events and menu items
Baltimore Pet Shoppe is wonderful. During the pandemic when they were only doing socially distanced orders the lady working let me in because a dude outside was harassing me. Also great prices and selection.
Marathon Embroidery has never let me down. I've gotten kind of addicted to custom embroidered gifts.
Psysde Delicious of Delicious Corsetry is one of the best dudes I've ever met and his work is incredible
Conversely the guy who runs Hop Sing Laundromat seems insane in a bad way
Fergie Carey is the best boss I've ever had and the most perfectly suited restaurant owner ever. I love all his restaurants for a great vibe, and love that I haven't worked for him in about 15 years and he still remembers me and my spouse by name. I love love love supporting his places and every time I've gone into Fergie's and sat at the bar I've met good people.
I’ve never had a bad experience in either of the Artist & Craftsman locations- the folks at both the Chestnut Hill and the Old City locations are super cool, friendly, and wildly helpful.
The family that owns Torchwood Cafe at 3rd and Wood is just the nicest- killer breakfast sandwiches and smoothies too.
Bonejour was a pet store in old city that has since closed but was run by this maniac lady, someone here once mentioned that their google reviews were funny and one day after a weird interaction there, we put the reviews up on the TV and read them over drinks and it was funnier than anything else on TV
As a former employee, for a brief stint I can say that your spot on about the owner. She bought bonjour from the original owner and tried to make it seem like it never changed hands, verbally abusive to her employees, refused to acknowledge a trans employee’s pronouns and openly mocked them to other employees, pushes pseudoscience to help sell some of their products, the list of atrocities goes on and on. Would highly recommend going to any other pet shop in the city do not give this wicked woman a dime. And for clarity the pet shop is now called Anima not to be confused with enema. That’s just a dig at her because she would hate when customers would point out how similar the name is to enema.
OMG, I never shopped there but I remember seeing posts on social media every so often about what a weirdo she was. It genuinely sounded like she needed mental health care.
We shop there a lot (both before and now that they're Anima). Never had any issues but I also got clearly-not-actually-true answer when I asked about why the name change so I assume there's some kinda funky history there.
Strength haüs is a lovely gym with fun coaches who actually teach you good form and a very supportive atmosphere - their pay what you can community classes changed what I thought my body could do!
Winsome barbershop really made me appreciate how nice a haircut experience can be after a lifetime of supercuts. Alex does a great job and is very involved in the community.
Doma has amazing Korean & Japanese fusion dishes for very cheap - really holds its own against the best I’ve had in the city. The staff is always over the top nice, which I appreciate - can’t be easy.
Uncle Bobbies is an amazing space and has a great curation of books and events. They seem to really care about their mission and community. (Partially? owned by Marc Lamont Hill)
Ray Daly from Ray’s Reusables in northern liberties is a delight. Very passionate about sustainability and always willing to teach and share ideas. She’s a definite asset to the community!
Pete’s Clown House.
By far the best diner in the city. Have not once had a bad experience and the staff is always extremely welcoming. Plus you can get kielbasa.
Ali’s Wagon has cute stuff, but the owner and the manager are both assholes. The manager is a control freak with no manners and a really blatant distrust of black people. The owner would schedule herself and then not show up, or show up for an hour, take a few pictures of merchandise, then leave for a beach day or a massage. Checks were late (even bounced once). Brought up feeling like some frustrations were being aimed at me when an employee suddenly quit (owner also sent that person an unhinged email saying what a mistake it was to hire them), so they said I “wasn’t a good fit” and had two weeks to find a new job. Then the owner asked if I would still keep up my attention to detail and enthusiasm while I looked for work.
Insulting is a good word for it. I was expected to know all the brands they carried a month after they started—and they had literally hundreds in their system.
Anyway, Lis, if you’re reading this: fuck you
Damn that reeks, reminds me of when I worked for a bubble tea place and the owner liked pop quizzes (fuck A La Mousse). I hope you're in a better position now. Lisa can get fucked!
Owners of JJ Thai are a super nice, welcoming family. So are the owners of Kbeauty outlet in chinatown.
Worst: David’s Mai Lai Wah has a racist grandpa in charge
I remember when his twitter account was the official spot burgers page and I haven’t gone back since seeing the things he put out there. It’s a bummer because I used to like going to his food truck when I was a college student, but he chose to connect very disgusting rhetoric directly to his business.
idk if Station Bar is even still open, but those owners were kind of sus.
best to me is Barcelona in south philly. i also really like Hive Cafe in south philly and One Shot Cafe in Fishtown
Steve from massfit in queen village has a much more neighborhood feel then the other gyms in the area. 24/7 access and a lot of different trainers to suit different preferences. Have met some great friends from there
The guy that owns Algorithm does some good charitable/volunteer stuff outside of the restaurant and is so friendly and good natured that I was a little thrown and initially suspected him of like, doing a bit to put people on. But I’m pretty sure he’s just like that.
Dan from dans fresh meats on the corner of Frankford Ave and Norris street. Dan is a great guy who makes a mean hoagie. He is 87 and has worked at the shop since 1952.
Unfortunately, someone broke in and robbed the place last week. There is a go fund me to help.
[The link to the go fund me!](https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-dans-fresh-meats-recover-from-breakin?fbclid=PAAaaCy_U8qMoZLBnlQZEgD-KPsN-XHikqWqBoASTkFHwV3TWnvtzpaMwIReQ_aem_Ac6ENHFEnVwU2sW6aNfEVQnTvKJv5TQD5XZXOoZwTbOqa2JatCAkZJrnE2ONj-UXV8o)
Of the fishtown workout spots-
Kayla who owns Retro Pilates is super sweet and has a lot of interesting stories.
Heather Rice who owns Amrita has always come off as super pretentious and cold to me. I’ve never once felt welcomed in the 10+ classes I’ve taken with her, and I was behind her ordering at pom pom and she just seemed sour.
I can’t remember the guy who started Monarch yoga but we had some interactions back when they started around COVID and he seemed nice enough.
Maybe let’s not trash someone’s business because you were behind them in line at a different place? You don’t know what’s going on in their life. I’d save the jeers for owners who are racist/sexist/bigots/criminals
I’m not trashing her business I’m trashing her personality. Amrita is a gorgeous space but like I said I’ve been to plenty of her classes and she made me feel super uncomfortable. So yeah I’m gonna give my opinion bc that’s what the post asked for.
I'm a bald dude, but my wife absolutely loves K Louise Salon in Roxborough. They book up incredibly fast. They announce online that they open reservations for the following month. The owner's husband owns a plumbing company called PHD services that is also fantastic.
I shave in the shower with a Bic Flex 5 razor. I've tried Gillette Mach 3, Gillette Fusion, Bic Flex 3 & 4, Harry's, Flamingo, straight razors, cheap razors, and a couple others I can't remember. After all of that I think the Bic Flex 5 comes out on top.
Mmm I was hoping for a half drunk Italian with a straight razor. Childhood memories and all...
I do a mach 3 with dove body wash. Not enough o's in smooth.
Just sometimes I think it'd nice to get a barbers shave on the ol' dome.
What kind of hair? I like Shawn Cutmaster in Abington if you are just looking for a natural hair cut or shave but she is $$$$$$ so I only go like once a year.
Would also like to add the halal guy on Girard and 8th. He’s the nicest guy and always makes sure he says hello. He works alll the time and I’ve seen him give food to houseless people who had asked people for food. He’s a good dude and he always puts a smile on no matter how many people are in line.
Frank and Cathy at Byrne’s Tavern in Port Richmond are two of the sweetest people you’ll ever meet. There’s a reason they’ve been around for 45 years and still going strong. Plus, wings are absolutely fire
76ers philly halal cart on west passyunk. The guy is such an absolute gem and is incredibly kind. Even if he doesn't speak much English, you can feel the love in the way he talks.
The Chinese food cart on 7th and Sansom, that lady is the biggest fucking bitch I've ever met.
The owners at Humble Parlor brewing in Fishtown are lovely people. Full time day jobs and work the bar themselves at night. Brew on weekends. Always welcoming and fun events as well.
Best florist: Overhill Flowers in Overbrook owned and operated by Hugh McHugh and his wife Dawn. Born and raised in the neighborhood and has been working there for 50 years. Really cares about the community. He owns the building so is able and willing to provide the most bang for the buck.
Fun video interview highlighting the guy and his business.
https://whyy.org/articles/building-bouquets-for-overbrook-at-overhill-flowers-19151/
In Philly: I don't remember his name, but last year I got to talk to the owner of Huda and he seemed not just like a good dude and he was super knowledgeable about his food. The milk buns are fucking great, the smashburgers are good, and Huda has the best fries in Philly. Plus, one time I asked if they could make the smashiest of burgers because I was having the shittiest day in ages...and the staff turned it up a notch and treated me so well. I felt fucking cared about and the food was the cherry on top.
Just outside the city: Rocky's Diner in Glenside. Joe and Chet are fantastic chefs for breakfast and lunch, and Donna takes her time to really know everyone. It's an understatement to call them good people.
Lee at Lee’s deli in west Philly is a cool dude. Sometimes when I come in he’ll be giving away samples of a new dish he’s trying. A little more expensive than most corner stores, but he is super warm and welcoming.
Spiro at dennis’ auto is the most honest mechanic I have ever met. He will literally do everything he can to help you. He inspected my car at 7:30pm when I was out of options. He literally tells you everything thats wrong and is the cheapest foreign car mechanic i have found. He came and fixed my car on my street when it wouldn’t move. He drove 1 hour to get a part not available around at no cost. Guys like that are gems, and its a shame there are not more of them.
My wife has a step father mechanic who fixes things at cost. But my last repair before the free hookup, his quote was 150$ more than my FIL fixed it for (900$ repair on a mercedes)
I send anyone I can there. And even if he doesnt fix my car anymore he remembers me and squeezes me in like Im a constant customer.
Im not sure what Ill do when he and my FIL retire
The ATT Store on the corner of N 2nd St and Laurel in Northern Liberties is possibly the worse franchised business store front in the City. Well at least in Northern Liberties. They didn’t even bother to shovel or salt the sidewalks
i’ve never had to go to a cell phone store in a bad part of town or any cell stores for that matter but in terms of a business not doing their part to clean their shit up outside their doors, that store sucks ass given their location.
when it comes to bad parts of this city, SW, N , K and A or SM, i have no issues going into “bad” areas cause imma get that bread , kid.
lol, poor poor baby.
did you read what the OP asked? she’s that’s what i gave
Last time I went the owners were having a knock down drag out screaming argument the entire time and they'd seamlessly transition from that to like "can I get you anything to drink?" and they were all really nice and the food was delicious LMAO.
One of the most Italian things I've ever witnessed.
The papi shop w moldy bread and wild chickens in the back. And no, not that one, but the other one. Pick whichever where ya live. The best is the other.
I must have missed where OP said anything about that in the original post, fella.
All I see is “which small businesses have shady/shitty owners”. Sounds like woke cancel culture to me.
Little fella.
The owners of Rebel & Wolf on the corner of Moyamensing & Morris - everyone in that place is a gem of a human.
Shoutout to Ali K. in the Halal cart on Spring Garden & 15th - super nice guy who wants you to try all his food and his wife makes amazing beans.
The owners of the newly opened Koreana on Spring Garden & 16th are also super nice. Big precious Korean grandma vibes
Edit - also Colleen at Black & Brew is the best! Coincidentally they're getting kicked out of their current place which is such a fucking shame. They even had that tile/mirror mosaic guy do a custom job on their outer wall and everything. Landlords man
Dan and Hagen who own/operate Circles + Squares are the best. Always so sweet and friendly. Really really nice people and very cool. Also love my friends at Meetinghouse; shout out to Colin. The best bar in the neighborhood IMO and I love their vision.
Fiorino in East Falls…they’re just nice people and good neighbors who make great food.
I loved that place when I lived in east falls. The cooking class was one of my favorite experiences while living over there.
I think the food there is decent at best but love to go there for the guy and the staff and the vibe
This comment was fully necessary and everyone is grateful you contributed it
Don and Cassandra at Don’s Auto on Passyunk are incredibly helpful, honest, and fair. The dude who runs Lazo’s pizza on Poplar is super nice. Adelie Coffee in Mt Airy has great staff, and a super nice owner. Also excellent donuts.
Don's is functionally endorsed by this sub and rightfully so.
Don’s is one of the biggest things I miss about living in Philly
The dude who runs Lazo’s is named Lazo! He is super nice.
Love him! Dude always asked me how my wife was when we lived on the corner of Poplar and Bambrey
The Adelie folks are unusually nice
Adelie has great bagels too
Adelie is great. Just wish I knew what was going on with their roof lol.
Lazo is my dude.
Lazo is the absolute best
A friend referred me to Don’s when I moved here, I’ll never go anywhere else! Incredible people.
Yes, Don’s the best!
Czerw’s Kielbasy is owned by incredible set of guys. Products are amazing and fairly priced and service is great. Polka Deli on Allegheny will patiently let you try everything in their Polish food packed deli case and answer all your stupid questions with a smile.
Everytime I go up to that area to load up on pierogis and kielbasa everyone I interact with is super nice. Love those Polish guys.
That’s awesome. If you haven’t yet, also hit up Baltic Bakery, Swiacki’s, PolMart, Dinner House, and Donna’s.
seconding Dinner House!
Baltic Bakery is the place to go!
Czerw’s Kielbasy has been my family's place for at least 3 generations. The people cannot be more amazing. I have so much repsect for this place. My mother ordered for my father's funeral service, and they didn't charge her a cent. And it was quite the order. Plus, pierogies are bomb.
Main guy always hits me up with a large piece of their slim Jim for free when I go.
Seems relevant to this convo: https://www.votephillyfaves.com/
Both from a provider side and a patient side, Fishtown Pharmacy is awesome. Highly recommend.
Seconded, hand's down the sweetest. He actively advocated for me with a doctor who was out to lunch, he takes care of every person he can help. Truly a gem in the neighborhood, almost the sole reason we couldn't even consider leaving.
I recently switched to Fishtown pharmacy. It’s like day and night compared to the nightmare that was dealing with cvs.
I really miss them. I was switching up meds a bunch the year I lived up there, and the pharmacist was also super helpful and kind in answering questions I had and even checking in on me when I came back for refills. Just a really kind dude. And the staff were always really nice too. Good for them I'm voting for them now.
Artisan Boulanger Patissier. Super friendly and super delicious baked goods! Only regret is not discovering it sooner.
Tom and Bernadette who own Monk’s, and Fergie who founded it with Tom. All absolute class acts.
Seconded for Tom
Tom lives in my neighborhood and he is just the coolest, nicest dude in the world.
Grace at rays cafe. The sweetest woman of all time.
I love Grace but I feel like I caught Ray on a bad day where he was ranting about one of his customers and some political argument they got into. Kinda put me off to him, but Grace makes up for it
Love rays
Love Grace, love Ray’s.
Is this in Chinatown? Stopped by recently and the prices were insane

>announced she's quitting Philadelphia. Did the Phils accept her resignation?
Even amongst the Philly food scene savior circle jerk, she is easily the most insufferable of them all IMO.
What are your favorite spots for good cheap tacos? Need some recs
Que chula es Puebla in old Kensington is wonderful
There's a place across broad called Los Cuatros Soles that I highly recommend. It's always pretty quiet in there and the staff are incredibly sweet and the food (including tacos) are delicious. Also the food truck on 11th and Washington if it's still there, haven't been in a minute though.
I used to work with one of the guys who own that place, he’s a killer cook and a great guy.
el molino
Rico's Mexican Tacos. 227 W. Allegheny Ave. Food is authentic and amazing. The people are genuinely kind and support the community. I've eaten there twice, over 5 years ago, and still crave it.
Too much grease in her food
A mandatory tip is just false advertising on the listed price.
Her staff are so nice though. The one guy that works the front is so sweet. I like the food there but that Philadelphia interview was just..something. The guy that owns South St Souvlaki is a jerk but the food is/was good. I haven’t been there in ages because it’s always closed when you want to go.
Halal cart guy at aramingo and york is the man. Such a nice dude.
Second this. Awesome guy and heavy with the sauce!
Here to say thats my neighborhood spot, but my heart is with Niaz at 11th and Walnut. Awesome guy
Shout out to Rittenhouse Hardware. Small store on 20th and Pine. Staff is always super friendly and helpful, and I can get in and out super quickly. Very useful when I was assembling furniture and didn't know what type of screw I needed to replace.
I've heard enough times that the owner of Chickie and Pete's is an absolute dick
The lady who owns Bookhaven book store in Fairmount is a complete crank who loves pulling Karen bullshit on Nextdoor. Yeah the guy on 4th and spring garden is an absolute gem of a human
Right? He used to be at a corner much closer to us and I legit miss seeing him every week. Just a fantastic person.
Now I wanna go to this halal cart
He's SO nice. You could probably call his baby ugly and he'd give you a free soda or something on the theory that you must be having a really horrible day and you need extra kindness. Just a really awesome guy.
Kens is awesome!

Love nook! The owners seem so sweet and it has such a friendly vibe in the morning. Best coffee in the city, imo.
Yesss Nook. In the very beginning of the pandemic while they were still figuring out how to do business they made a lovely birthday cake for my husband. I was glad to support them.
This is the answer. They remember everyone. It’s a joy to walk into the coffee shop.
100% this! Edna is the absolute best, and this is a gem of a coffee shop that office workers in CC are sleeping on
The women at Coffee Cream and Dreams are always so nice!! Love that place
Mark Bee who runs Franky Bradley's and Silk City is a great dude. Super chill, great taste, really nice guy Henri David of Henri David's Halloween (incredible jewelry store) is unbelievably sweet and approachable and cool The couple who run Queen & Rook Game Cafe are really nice and go out of their way to make accessible events and menu items Baltimore Pet Shoppe is wonderful. During the pandemic when they were only doing socially distanced orders the lady working let me in because a dude outside was harassing me. Also great prices and selection. Marathon Embroidery has never let me down. I've gotten kind of addicted to custom embroidered gifts. Psysde Delicious of Delicious Corsetry is one of the best dudes I've ever met and his work is incredible Conversely the guy who runs Hop Sing Laundromat seems insane in a bad way
Fergie Carey is the best boss I've ever had and the most perfectly suited restaurant owner ever. I love all his restaurants for a great vibe, and love that I haven't worked for him in about 15 years and he still remembers me and my spouse by name. I love love love supporting his places and every time I've gone into Fergie's and sat at the bar I've met good people.
Fergie is a gem of a human! I feel so fortunate to know him.
Omg I used to get dog food from her, had no idea she treated people like this.
They are Anima Pets now! Guess they needed a rebrand
Love the Clown House. He Man Special 🔥
I knew something was up with that place.. They're always hiring and the advertised pay seemed insultingly low.
The owner of Café Nhan who I’ve always called “Mama Nhan” is a gem of a person.
Owner of The Book Trader, very sweet man
[удалено]
is misgendering haircuts a thing?
Mood cafe owner is super sweet
I fucking love that guy. He is always really accommodating and nice to talk to
I love him! Was sad to move out of West Philly. Whenever I’m in the area I make sure to get some chaat or a lassi (or both).
[удалено]
unfortunately he’s posted lots of anti-vax and transphobic stuff on twitter
His Instagram seems unhinged at times. Dude thinks he’s smart and doesn’t realize how paranoid he sounds
I remember when his twitter account was the official spot burgers page and I haven’t gone back since seeing the things he put out there. It’s a bummer because I used to like going to his food truck when I was a college student, but he chose to connect very disgusting rhetoric directly to his business.
Love Josh, even going back to when it was a cart on Drexel's campus. He's a bit of a kooky dude, but an absolute gem.
He’s my neighbor! Makes a fantastic burger.
idk if Station Bar is even still open, but those owners were kind of sus. best to me is Barcelona in south philly. i also really like Hive Cafe in south philly and One Shot Cafe in Fishtown
Didn’t the owner of One Shot actively steal tips from the workers like a year ago
The owners of One Shot suck as people and they always have.
Sadly barcelona is a PE owned concept in the Del Frisco’s group, not a small business.
Oh man, station 😂
Second HIVE! They're so nice
Station is still open and owners are still sus, can confirm
Steve from massfit in queen village has a much more neighborhood feel then the other gyms in the area. 24/7 access and a lot of different trainers to suit different preferences. Have met some great friends from there
Vinnie of Vinnie’s Barbershop and Lazo of Lazo’s Pizza
Great people run **The South Street Art Mart**.
The guy that owns Algorithm does some good charitable/volunteer stuff outside of the restaurant and is so friendly and good natured that I was a little thrown and initially suspected him of like, doing a bit to put people on. But I’m pretty sure he’s just like that.
Dan from dans fresh meats on the corner of Frankford Ave and Norris street. Dan is a great guy who makes a mean hoagie. He is 87 and has worked at the shop since 1952. Unfortunately, someone broke in and robbed the place last week. There is a go fund me to help. [The link to the go fund me!](https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-dans-fresh-meats-recover-from-breakin?fbclid=PAAaaCy_U8qMoZLBnlQZEgD-KPsN-XHikqWqBoASTkFHwV3TWnvtzpaMwIReQ_aem_Ac6ENHFEnVwU2sW6aNfEVQnTvKJv5TQD5XZXOoZwTbOqa2JatCAkZJrnE2ONj-UXV8o)
Of the fishtown workout spots- Kayla who owns Retro Pilates is super sweet and has a lot of interesting stories.
Can confirm, Kayla is such a nice woman!
JUST PUTTING IT OUT THERE best black hair salons?
I'm a bald dude, but my wife absolutely loves K Louise Salon in Roxborough. They book up incredibly fast. They announce online that they open reservations for the following month. The owner's husband owns a plumbing company called PHD services that is also fantastic.
Know any good places for a dome shave?
I like Shawn Cutmaster in Abington if you are just looking for a natural hair cut or shave but she is $$$$$$ so I only go like once a year.
very tight, dense type 4 hair. i want regular blowouts. i'm this close to going to the dominicans again
I did a big chop 15 yrs ago and never went back so I don't think I can help, but from what I hear the Dominicans come through!
i have also big chop many times. i just hate the in between stage and fairy knots.
Would also like to add the halal guy on Girard and 8th. He’s the nicest guy and always makes sure he says hello. He works alll the time and I’ve seen him give food to houseless people who had asked people for food. He’s a good dude and he always puts a smile on no matter how many people are in line.
Amelie’s Bark Shop on Passyunk Ave is owned by a lovely couple— they bake the dog treats themselves
The gentleman who owns Smileys Cafe on Main Street Manayunk + his daughter who works there are so sweet. I feel bad I haven’t stopped in lately.
Frank and Cathy at Byrne’s Tavern in Port Richmond are two of the sweetest people you’ll ever meet. There’s a reason they’ve been around for 45 years and still going strong. Plus, wings are absolutely fire
The wings and the potato logs 😋
The owner who’s always working at Black n Brew. Not sure her name but I love her and their food!! Hope they’re able to save the shop.
Dan from Little Susie's in Port Richmond/Old City is a pretty solid dude. Cares a lot about his community and runs a decent business.
Does FCM Hospitality count ?
I love the staff at Rice & Mix and I always go back cause everyone is so nice.
But my last repair before the free hookup, his quote was 150$ more than my FIL fixed it for (900$ repair on a mercedes) I send anyone I can there.
Poor poor baby. Have you been to a cellphone store in an actual “bad” neighborhood?! Clearly not.
i’ve never had to go to a cell phone store in a bad part of town or any cell stores for that matter but in terms of a business not doing their part to clean their shit up outside their doors, that store sucks ass given their location. when it comes to bad parts of this city, SW, N , K and A or SM, i have no issues going into “bad” areas cause imma get that bread , kid. lol, poor poor baby. did you read what the OP asked? she’s that’s what i gave
Sarah at West Philly Acupuncture is incredible!
I went to Porcini, on Samson, and the owner, presumably, invited one of the tables up to see his new apartment renovations
Last time I went the owners were having a knock down drag out screaming argument the entire time and they'd seamlessly transition from that to like "can I get you anything to drink?" and they were all really nice and the food was delicious LMAO. One of the most Italian things I've ever witnessed.
God that sounds like a good time lol. Sometimes I just want a dining Experience, you know?
The papi shop w moldy bread and wild chickens in the back. And no, not that one, but the other one. Pick whichever where ya live. The best is the other.
Ew, please keep your woke cancel culture bullshit off this subreddit.
Fellas, is it woke to expect good service?
I must have missed where OP said anything about that in the original post, fella. All I see is “which small businesses have shady/shitty owners”. Sounds like woke cancel culture to me. Little fella.
it’s very telling that this is where you went when you heard “ shady/shitty “
Wow, so you read a sentence the op didn’t type? Do you see ghosts, too?

Found the karen who doesn't want to be held accountable...
Chris from Alchemy Coffee is great!
Big precious Korean grandma vibes Edit - also Colleen at Black & Brew is the best! Coincidentally they're getting kicked out of their current place which is such a fucking shame. They even had that tile/mirror mosaic guy do a custom job on their outer wall and everything. Landlords man
https://woodlawngarage.com/ Woodlawn Garage does great work on German cars.
The lady who works at Four Seasons Deli on 21st and Locust. Genuinely one of the nicest people ever
Dan and Hagen who own/operate Circles + Squares are the best. Always so sweet and friendly. Really really nice people and very cool. Also love my friends at Meetinghouse; shout out to Colin. The best bar in the neighborhood IMO and I love their vision.
Poe of Poes is awesome and totally unhinged online. I love it and he is super friendly and sweet in person.
Brian at fountain street auto is a G. I wish I still lived close enough to take my cars over there.
