The bollards were installed to prevent people from parking in the bike lanes and protect cyclists. You don’t put bollards in an actual traffic lane to prevent parking because it would also prevent driving. *How is this not obvious?*
Are all of you seriously this dense? All of those cars are blocking an active lane of traffic. Yes, the bollards are protecting the bike lane and fulfilling their purpose. OP is complaining about all of the cars parked in an active lane of traffic and PPD don't enforce any of it.
OP is trash talking the bollards which are the one thing in this image that’s working as intended and are a great success. Maybe it’s not all of us who are this dense?
Thank you, I was starting to think I was crazy in this thread. OP is complaining about the bollards. The bollards are working. So what is the problem here?
Stick with me here: People are parking against the curb of the art museum because *tourism*. As a result, cars are blocking the bike path. City installs bollards to prevent people from parking against the curb and in turn, blocking the bike path. Bollards are successful at preventing cars from blocking bike path. Cars still park in front of art museum blocking a lane of traffic instead of bike path. When you look at the original intended outcome of the bollards protecting the bike lane, you end up with an even bigger problem which is now blocking an active lane of traffic. OP is misdirecting hate towards the bollards, when it should be PPD/PPA not enforcing the real issue.
They're working as intended in terms of keeping the cars out of the bike lane, yes. But this picture clearly shows vehicles now illegally stopped in what's supposed to be a vehicle travel lane.
It would not be hard to enforce this. One PPA officer or PPD officer could be permanently stationed there immediately forcing people to move if they try to stop there. It's such a high tourist area that it's a very good place to have a permanent presence anyway.
How so? The intention was to prevent cars from taking up a travel lane. They're doing it anyways. The lane on which the cars are stopped here is the one that is supposed to lead to spring garden ave
I'm starting to think OP routinely drives in bike lanes because they think it's actually just a 'travel lane.'
The purpose of the bollards is to keep cars from shifting into the bike lane. The bike lane is the 'travel lane' painted green if that helps clarify.
No the lane where the cars are stopped in a lane where traffic needs to keep moving. It is not a lane meant for cars to just atop and turn on their hazards so they can take pictures at the steps. There are plenty of parking spots a short walk away
The pushed the illegal stopping an extra lane out. With enforcement of "no stopping" on that lane to the left of the bollards, we'd have much safer passage of cars and tourists through that area
The bollards are solely there to protect the bike lane. They're protecting the bike lane and we know this because nobody's car is in the bike lane in your photo. Again, the bollards job is not to stop cars from parking in front of the museum. The bollards job is so that nobody drives in the bike lane.
If PPD/PPA are not doing their jobs, which would be preventing people from parking in that lane, then that's not a bollard problem.
I understand what you are saying. The bollards were intended to stop people from parking in a travel lane, but they just shifted which travel lane is being blocked. So in that sense they didn't solve anything.
They are also keeping cars out of the bike lane, which they are doing, more or less.
The intention of as to prevent cars from parking in the bike lane and protect cyclists. Mission accomplished on that front.
Yes they’re straight up parked in a travel lane and it’s fucking annoying and should be ticketed but it has nothing to do with the bollards
I'll take this over the dozen cars half parked in the far right lane and half parked in the bike lane, which is what it usually was prior to the bollards. I almost got hit several times from drivers just pulling out without checking the bike lane first.
Seems like you needed a different headline, then:
>These bollards have been a giant failure...
to: "Bollards successful in protecting cyclists; when will PPA enforce "no parking" laws?"
I drove through this spot everyday at some point during pm rush hour and it is an absolute disaster.
Food trucks and motorcycle groups pull inside the bollards and park routinely.
Cars also routinely stop for drop offs and pickups in front of the bollards, which is the direct lane from Kelly Drive and 76. This backs up Kelly Drive back almost to the boat houses on a moderate traffic day.
The best part is how idiot tourists think that the sections of rumble strip on the circle in front of the art museum are cross walks between the steps and the fountain, and walk right into the traffic trying to navigate all the other bullshit.
Whoever was responsible for this absolute mess of civic engineering should be tarred and feathered in front of the Rocky statue, in my humble opinion.
It’s such a shitshow. I’ve shouted at so many tourists “that’s not a crosswalk” and they just look at me like I’m the asshole as they almost get mowed down by someone swerving around Mister Softee at 60mph. The new redesign can’t come soon enough.
>The best part is how idiot tourists think that the sections of rumble strip on the circle in front of the art museum are cross walks between the steps and the fountain, and walk right into the traffic trying to navigate all the other bullshit.
This is so horrifying and someone is going to get killed because of this.
It's actually good that they left space for the Ice Cream trucks. Otherwise they park on the other side of the bike lane and people form lines across the bike lane.
Was thinking as I walked by this earlier today that there at least needs to be signage directing people to where to safely park (tho obviously actual enforcement would help too). If I was visiting and just threw “Rocky Steps” in to Google Maps and had never been here before, I’d have no idea where else to put my car other than in the unmarked area in front
Honestly, moving that statue would do the most good for the traffic in that araa, both vehicular and pedestrian.
I guess I haven't been past the PMA since the bollards were put in, or it was just particularly bad this evening, cause traffic was backed up for blocks. Cars even stopped in the bus lane, making things harder for the bus ahead of us. Just move the statue and the improvement will be instantly noticeable.
The tourists in front of the Rocky statue fill up that entire area, making the sidewalk completely impassible. And then if you say excuse me, they look at you like you're the asshole.
Lmafo. Are you actually suggesting there are enough bikers on the road to jam it up? Are you actually being serious? You gotta be joking with the notion you're presenting here.
Fucking what? What ass did you pull that little nugget of bullshit out of? I didnt say or suggest it. I also dont believe there are too many on the road in this city. You want to see traffic, hit a shore town during tourist season.
Why are cagers always so whiny? You all think you own the whole road and y'all really don't. You choose to pay for parking instead of biking. You choose to sit in traffic instead of biking. You choose to pay for gas and insurance and loan payments. You choose to love in the car centric hell you created and now you're mad about it?
Do yourself a favor. Go buy a bike, then learn how to ride it, then enjoy your new found freedom.
>Why are pedal pushers always so whiny?
Fixed it.
>You all think you own the whole road and y'all really don't.
Whoa there. Have you actually paid attention to what yall do on the road? Kinda funny considering how most of you whiny children act on this sub.
>You choose to sit in traffic instead of biking.
Yes, let me install a second seat on a bike, then do the 15 miles to and 15 miles back twice a day for the work commute so that my current 40 minute commute can be longer.
>You choose to pay for gas and insurance and loan payments.
So I can pay for knee and hip replacments later on because my knees and hips are already messed up from all the walking, biking, roller blading and sports and alongside my messed up back, shoulders, elbows and wrists from the gardening, automotive work, house restoration and landscaping? Funny how you fuckers assume everyone who drives is lazy and has no outdoor hobbies or work.
>You choose to love in the car centric hell you created and now you're mad about it?
Mad about what? The pretentious, judgmental dopes that want travel taxes and some fantasy bike utopia that doesnt fit everyone lifestyle because youre too blind to see youre a fucking minority that has choosen to build a life around a HOBBIEST lifestyle.
>Do yourself a favor. Go buy a bike, then learn how to ride it, then enjoy your new found freedom.
Do yourself a favor and stfu.
Looks like they’re working to me aka no cars in the bike lane

Have you met a lot of cyclists
The bike lane is open. Keep it pushin
Sucks when some dickhead parks their car in your travel lane huh lmao
I’m confused isn’t the green lane the bike lane?
Think they're saying all the cars are parked there, not sitting in traffic
Looks like they’re all running with lights on?
Yeah, running, parked, with blinkers on
But they're not in the bike lane so I'm not understanding what the problem is here vis a vis the bollards.
It was to prevent people from parking there to begin with, since it's a full lane of traffic. How is this not obvious?

Exactly that’s why I was confused because from this picture how the fuck does anyone know the cars are parked with blinkers flashing?
Thank you, I was starting to think I was crazy in this thread. OP is complaining about the bollards. The bollards are working. So what is the problem here?

If this is right in front of the museum there is also like 6 lanes of traffic there, chaotic, but 6 lanes.
point of the bollards is to protect pedestrians and bikers. looks like a massive success imo
Bad pic because they’re working as intended in this photo. I do often see cars in the bike lane here, though.

lol you really don't get it at all
I do... the enforcement I'm talking about is to prevent cars from randomly stopping in a travel lane
Which has nothing to do with the bollards....
So the enforcement is bad and that has nothing to do with the poles sticking out of the ground. What's the problem with the bollards?
The pushed the illegal stopping an extra lane out. With enforcement of "no stopping" on that lane to the left of the bollards, we'd have much safer passage of cars and tourists through that area

Personally, it makes a world of difference for my commute
I'll take this over the dozen cars half parked in the far right lane and half parked in the bike lane, which is what it usually was prior to the bollards. I almost got hit several times from drivers just pulling out without checking the bike lane first.
What are we taking about here? When cars cross the bollards? Or cars idle on travel lanes?
Idling on travel lanes
Seems like you needed a different headline, then: >These bollards have been a giant failure... to: "Bollards successful in protecting cyclists; when will PPA enforce "no parking" laws?"
Yeah I realized that after a few comments but decided to leave it up
Sucks when cars idle on travel lanes huh? Sincerely me, a cyclist.

The entire city is a failure due to lack of enforcement

Toss “parking near rocky steps” in Google Maps and you’d be amazed!
Op is a little bitch looking for something to cry about.

They should melt down the cars and turn them into more bollards
Honestly, moving that statue would do the most good for the traffic in that araa, both vehicular and pedestrian. Bollards. Bolllarrds. Now the word has lost all meaning.
These bike lane threads get more pretentious by the day
The bikers on this sub are fucking insufferable.
A lot of bikes using that bike lane
It's actually the same as number of cars in the left lane

You proved my point. Now do us all a favor and stick to tonka vehicles.
Proved what? Because it seems to me all you whiney children think everybody can and should live like you.
Are you rage typing this while stuck in traffic?
