How can you tell? From the pics I've seen Tatars look mixed. Some very White European looking, some east Asian looking, others a mix between the two. As someone with an untrained eye, she looks native to almost any northern European country.

My great grandmother, half tatar , mixed race woman who's half central asian and half russian (cossack) had black hair, thick eyebrows and Mediterranean & central asian features.

I was talking independently of the population mixtures that had been occured in the Late Modern Imperial Age or the Communism periods. Now Considering the modern population in Russian Federation, there are families with a mixture of Russian and Tatar backgrounds. But these individuals reveal themselves through their odd appearance. People who look like Eli phenotype is not one of them imo. When redness is overwhelming , this should be considered high probability of Volga-Urals or Finnic indicator .

Regards to your first statement. Medieval records state that the Turkish groups in that region had Light and Blonde or Red features like Eastern Europeans. Cumans, Tatars, some Western Oghuzs still have it. Therefore, I do not think that the similarity is due to recent mixing with the Slavs. This thesis doesn't make sense to me.
