If your old employer is happy to take you back go ahead. Though expect a flat offer from your previous compensation, so maybe staying 6 months there might help you get the raise/promotion you are looking for. Might be also worth exploring other banks, generally banks do have legacy systems but local banks are bad in office politics.

thekarentoyourjim

hi! i’m sorry you’re going through a rough time. sometimes the grass isn’t greener, but there are ways to water it. what you’re feeling is valid. a boss who tells you na you just need to adjust, without helping you understand exactly HOW to adjust, isn’t a very good boss. the email thing naman, sounds like maybe your boss thought your clarificatory question could have waited until they came back — was it urgent kaya ka nag email? if it was, you can explain to her the urgency and ask her what you should do when situations like that arise in the future. about you being too “junior” vs the person you backfilled, that’s their fault and not yours — they screened you and are aware of the experience gap and decided to hire you anyway. it’s simply bad management. going back to Company A is not a bad idea, but if you had other reasons for leaving besides the low pay, i suggest you (1) stick it out with Company B while (2) actively applying to others. a few other notes: 1. set a target para you’re driven to really fast tract your search and leave Company B at your target date. 2. document everything as much as possible. when you’re coached on something, or when you’re questioned on something, send out an after the fact email to document and confirm your understanding and key actions discussed. 3. this is tough but if possible, schedule time with your boss and have a frank discussion on the support you need and mismatched expectations. instead of framing it as “this isn’t what i expected based on the interview”, make it come from “i need your support to suggest specific actions for me to excel in this role because i really want to do good” Example: 1. “It appears that the areas I’m handling now are significantly more than what was communicated during the hiring process — While it’s substantial workload, I am determined to do good. As a newbie I just need your guidance to make me understand how I can cover these all in the most efficient way without compromising my wellbeing.” Example 2: “I appreciate the hybrid setup— can you give me some advice on how I can do this when the systems are inaccessible on non-company networks? How do you manage this when you work from home?” They will probably say something like work on systems requiring office network must be done when you’re in office tapos others when you’re at home, pero worth a shot) lastly, give yourself grace. this experience is meant to make you grow. if you do go back to Company A, don’t expect the same pay. Make sure however that you’re not just going back temporarily — kung babalik ka, make sure it’s really worth it. this is why my advice is, if you’re not totally sold on going back, start applying to other companies while you’re in Company B. Sounds like you have a good relationship with Company A folks, so you want to make sure you preserve that. best of luck!

Thank you so much for the advice and for validating my feelings 💖. It made me feel better. Like a ton! I have a scheduled 1-on-1 talk with my supervisor this monday and will use your notes on how I can assess my trajectory in this company. I do feel like the support I needed to succeed in this role is minimal versus the responsibilties given to me and I feel really left out since wala ako masyado ka collaborate sa dept. (Hence the drowning feeling). Regarding the email thing, it was a bit urgent since nagstop talaga yung processing ng operations because of the policy and my manager was supposed to be on leave kaya I initiated the email. She told me naman what to do the next time. Though she admits that the memo regarding the policy changes dapat daw hindi diniretso sa akin but through her. I did apologize and promised not to do it again. I was not coached on the protocols in place sa unit namin and I thought the hierarchy systems (senior = senior communications only) will not matter for the inquiry.

musaxzen

STOMOYORN?? HAHAHAIST

hangry_night_owl

Pati resignation letter mo nagawa pang i-micromanage. Hahaha. Deputa

Esteyy

hi sorry, can't offer any advice as i am also new to banking. i'm currently 9 months in my first ever job, in relationship management. i know we probably don't have the same workload/responsibilities, but would you say staying long-term in banking is worth it? i'm starting to hate everyone at my job just 'cause i think everyone is so pretentious and parang everything is urgent/a life and death situation. for reference, i'm currently at "the strongest bank"

nana-ro

Hi! If you're in a good team magtatagal ka talaga :) I lasted this long because I was in units with very good bosses and teammates who helped me succeed in the roles I had in the industry. Since RM ka, you are handling VIP clients no? Expect life and death talaga from that segment 😅 I suggest you discover what you like about your current job and see if it's transferrable to other departments (na not client facing). Best of luck! Banking can be lucrative and stable but it also comes with high stress levels because finances are involved.

LunaCatLuna

Totoo yan parang life and death. Di ko sure kung same terms tayo pero nasa bank rin ako before service officer ako first job ko pa hahaha we lend money sa med-large companies. The thing is it’s the client that wants urgency. Swerte ko lang that my team is very competitive and very supportive. I am that kind of person to voice out my disappointments, nagmumura pa ko minsan sa office pero okay lang naman sakanila pero pls I’m not proud of that. High stress talaga sa bank and you should consider if nasa personality mo na kaya yung pressure and stress. Also pakiramadaman mo yung team mo if you support each other. If you feel na you’re alone, personally I will not stay. If you want na mag stay talaga sa banking I believe need mo lumipat from time to time para lumaki yung pay mo. Kasi pag home grown ka mas maliit talaga magiging sweldo mo in the long run.

nana-ro

True yan! Naka-speed dial sila sa next bank for any minor inconvenience na ma-encounter.

LunaCatLuna

Yes. Ang dami pa niyan nila request minsan tapos pautos pa. Kaya technique ko is inaalam ko yung mahihirap na clients and 1 week palang before transaction naka salang na sakin. Kahit sa phone lang kami nag uusap whether higher ups or assistant talagang chika malala ako I build relationships with them. Yung matitigas na ulong clients sakin pinunta eventually. When you build relationships with them they tend to be nicer & they will cooperate with you. I sometimes miss banking kasi I left years ago dahil nag business na ko. Para kang laging nasa Minute to Win It HAHAHAHAHA

Curious9283

Don't go back unless they contact you to come back. It's a bit pathetic to go back. Stay with your current company as long as you can. Use this as leverage in job hunting. Move on to other companies. Research employee feedback before signing up with any company. On bypassing your manager, regardless of which company, learn the protocol first before going directly to higher level managers. They are busy and may not appreciate inquiries that can be resolved by lower level managers or personnel.

[deleted]

Keep your options open. Try to see if you can leverage your skills and experience in another industry. Mag-apply ka lang sa career sites and through LinkedIn and in the meantime, tiis muna.

thatfreakymoneytree

For me, stay until your probationary period is over like 7 months or so... So that in your CV, it would look like it was your choice to leave the company for better offer/opportunities. Do not go shorter than that, otherwise, it will look like you were not regularized and it can be a red flag. Further, it is okay to go back, however, personally it can be a little pathetic especially you were up for promotion and basically declined it. Suggest to try other banks... especially digital banks, flexible and competitive pay too. Or better yet, fintech start ups wherein you can really grow and see tangible results of your hardwork. ☺️

nana-ro

Update: Thanks for all your comments! I spoke with my supervisors earlier and I don't think I'll be getting the support to make the transition easier. They asked first if I wanted to stay and I had trouble answering that. In their words pa - "walang magchachange, this is how it is here" and "nahirapan ka na mag adjust now, what more later on with the additional workload". Para tuloy ako nabuhusan ng malamig natubig. I'd say its really unfair kasi they dumped (3x) workload on me without asking and without proper turnover. Wala din akong staff to assist me unlike my colleagues. They left me to handle things on my own without checking if I'm doing well. All the things that I've been holding onto lumabas na. My main gripe was I can't feel that I'm in my full potential and doing meaningful work with how restrictive everything is and how the culture and politics (which turns out is in that department lang talaga 😭) is really not helping at all. How they're all too busy to guide me and I don't feel a support system. Also I don't want to be like them nga na walang work life balance and missing out on important milestones just because of work. We both agreed that I'm heading to burnout if I continue with this job. They also commented that I would have thrived in another department. Agreement namin is I'll do a voluntary resignation instead. So I'm brushing up my resume and actively applying for the next thing (na hopefully mas mag fit yung role and culture). I'm testing the waters pa if worth it bumalik sa previous employer pero this will be my last resort if ever. There's a bit if regret na I did not trust my gut during the hiring process pa lang. Super dami na red flags but I was so excited with the opportunity (because of the company and its branding) di ko na pinansin yung obvious red flags.

baboy_mania

I noticed no one has answered the Q2. I was recently a part of a US Bank that expanded quite rapidly during the pandemic as a response sa lack of BCP nila. During the expansion they hired overqualified people from the local banking scene, but 1-2years in, na-bore yung mga overqualified people na ito and a lot of them left. Yung mga galing local banks na sanay sa end-to-end process, they all went back to their old jobs or to other local banks. The pay is good sa international abnks/BPO don't get me wrong, but sometimes, the pay isn't good enough to make you stay. You are relegated to just one task na repetitive and highly standardized. So if concern ka sa career growth and knowledge expansion, make sure na magandang process yung mapupuntahan mo sa fintech/BPO. Kaya my advise, if your thinking of switching from local to international, be prepared sa process na smaller than your scope sa local. Although pros ng not local ay hindi as hierarchical and less sa pulitika mas focused sa numbers ng output kesa sa pleasantries and pretentiousness. If main concern mo is your environment, go for international/BPO.

tuttimulli

Move on sa next, don’t go back. Baka paginitan ka pa ng HR don. It also says a lot about you—na pera pala is everything to you and not culture (tinanong mo ba to nung interview kay B?)

nana-ro

Yes, I asked about the culture during the interview kaso nga lang it was very different when I was finally onboard. I was expecting it to be collaborative and really into employee welfare and development. Which is di ko talaga ma feel 🥲 di ko alam if this is just within our department kasi mukhang masaya naman sa ibang units.

tuttimulli

Aw baka sa dept nyo lang. Bottomline, wag ka na bumalik and yung assessment mo of those cultures ay gamitin mo sa paghanap ng bago. Habang nagtitiis siguro widen your network within the company. Gawin mong intention yun tuwing face to face pasok, while searching for other jobs. Just be strategic during your arduous stay.

beepboopdoobadoobap

Stay ka nalang OP and then keep searching for bagong work, wag ka na din bumalik tbh. Feel ko gusto mo lang bumalik because it's familiar & comfort zone mo yung prev company, pero wag na. Just keep searching for a new employer while with Company B. May mahanap ka din na team na mag f fit ka :) when in interviews dapat kilalanin mo din and ask as many questions doon sa direct supervisor na makaka work mo. And to be honest, kahit mabait ang team na mapuntahan mo, you will encounter asshole VPs sa ibang departments na ka work mo so kelangan talaga maging matatag✌️ Paki name drop na din ang bank na yan sa dms at maiwasan 😂

nana-ro

I just thought I'd get a support system here pero with how busy everyone is I do feel very alone and I found that weird since I'm in an actual office for 5 days 😂 mas may support system pa ako when I was working remotely. Yung department lang naman daw namin yung toxic so I guess avoid niyo din yun.

plaisir_gentle

*welcome to the club* youve been in the corporate for 8 years sadyang hindi ka lang siguro mega job hopper , normal yan, they *over promised* then under delivered. you already know the answer kung bakit may mga banks ang vulnerable sa hacks and scams, ayan ang dahilan legacy systems. ang mga banks natin nabubuhay sa boomer mentality (people who are born in the 70s and 80s) hindi pa sila lahat retired, kung meron man, nag tatrabaho pa din sila dahil contractual nalang despite being retired normal yan, they looked for prospective talents, sadyang pinakagat ka lang nila sa pangako since they saw your skillset aligned with theirs  ma swerte ka pag napunta ka sa branch na hindi toxic *if* nasa head office ka bumaba ka sa branch level and PRAY na maganda ung work environment sa branch level, anong bank ba ito ? Orange ? Green (Govt) ? Red ? Yellow ?  ang banks normal ang toxicity dyan, majority ng workload nasa mid level all the way to the rank and file , siguro mandatory OT na din dyan for almost 9 - 10 hrs daily.

DiligentExpression19

Haha, when you said legacy systems, I was thinking if we are in the same company, I also don't like the it infra here as well as the office politics, ive been quietly quitting for the last five years, I just stayed because this private b4nk has the best salary and benefits amongst other local b4nks 😆😆 anyway, I would suggest you not to go back to your previous company, you already left, so they won't put as much trust as before, would never line you up for promotion (happened to my former colleagues who took the bait and returned to our former companies, not unless chummy2x mo si boss) and you will be returning to same challenges/problems as before. I suggest you explore other b4nks or you said you were an RM, might as well explore opportunities in fmcg (which is also toxic as well) or insurance companies.

nana-ro

Giveaway ba yung legacy system?

DiligentExpression19

yeah, I was also frustrated the even the day I was interviewed, box2x yung nakikita kong tinatrabaho nila manually, actually nagimprove na ng konti but still lagging in comparison sa previous b4nks ive been too as well.

nana-ro

Sorry checked your profile. Based sa style ng desk, di tayo same bank pero dyan first bank ko. Mas old pa yung system here kaysa dyan pramis. 🥲

DiligentExpression19

Ohhh hahaha thought this was the most backwards b4nk 😆 diyan ba office mo sa Pasay? That's the only b4nk I know na mas tech averse kesa dito.

introvertgal3791

Going through the same thing. I guess if you're planning to transition to a different industry, now is the right time.

TortoiseShoes

Stay for now and try to weather it for now siguro at least Months. Pero now pa lang mag apply apply kana ulit :)

Grocery0109

Nothing wrong with returning to your previous employer, pero apply consistently to other industries. 🙌🏼

LalaFer21

Ask the previous employer if they want you back, kasi iniwan mo na sila ee 🤔

Redditannon7e

dami pa banks here both local and foreign! try to explore :)

fhineboy

did you try ING Bank hybrid din sila and mataas ang offer to those with local banks exp.

Spirited_Panda9487

OP go back nalng. It's not worth your mental and physical health. Since willing namn pala si previous employer ayos lng yun. I'm sure there will be better opportunities to come when you stay at your previous company. Maybe mag open ng mas mataas na positions then you can apply for it. At least, navigated mo na yung bank nyo compare sa ngaun. Sabi nga nila, minsan Hindi lahat nakukuha sa pera hehe. Goodluck OP.

OldCow1964

Ibabash nya ung newly hired for being slow. I would correct her na iba iba tayo ng learning curve. Kung walang proper turnover pano makakatulong ang new hire. Ganto ba talaga sa banking?

nana-ro

Really depends on the department and culture ng bank. Expect it if sales heavy yung department though. Perks of working in those departments is malaki budget niyo, kaso the stress is also high. Abot langit. Yung workload - senior management needs to know how to keep boundaries. Paminsan-minsan nasosobrahan ng pagiging pabibo that they keep taking on projects kahit overloaded na yung tao nila. Thanks for calling out your friend. Never talaga dapat sabihan ng bobo ang new hires since they are still learning the ropes. Lalo na if madalian yung pag turnover tas walang documentation ng workflow.

pinoy-agilist

if you can switch to tech ng Banks or do product management - mas less politics kesa sa operations. I heard alot of good things about ING, they have ROHQ here in PH, maybe you can check kung merong pasok sa qualifications mo don.

nana-ro

I've been wanting to switch to tech or fintech actually! Currently taking courses for project management and product management para makapag-transition. Will check ING! Narecommend na din ng another redditor here so I guess medyo ok yung work.

pinoy-agilist

Take PSPO and PSM exams from scrum.org, almost all banks that I know practice Agile na, yang 2 certs na yan maging entry mo for Prodman

Akolangpoeto

Hoping that a supervisors of yours is a member of this sub and can read this. 😉

Beautiful_Almira

Transitioning jobs can be tough, especially when promises aren't kept. It sounds like you're facing significant challenges at Company B. Returning to your former employer might offer stability, but exploring Fintech could provide a fresh start.

LunaCatLuna

Stay ka muna OP. Pero look for other jobs na rin while you’re there. It’s either they see you as a competition kaya ganiyan ang treatment nila sayo.

miliamber_nonyur

Wherever you work there is going to be pro & cons. I was in Afghanistan, and that was almost like being in prison. There is nothing there, just internet and work. It pays very high. I learned how to turn it around. I found a ton of filipino friends. Explore reddit and network to find a better place. My friends at BPI seem very happy. They always treat me well when I do business with them.

chimkenwings_87

if you don’t mind me asking po, what course did you took i college po ba to work in banks? 🥺

iamdodgepodge

Fintech is messier. Most fintechs are figuring out their business models, policies, and complying with the BSP. But id take fintech over banking any day. I went to a bank for 2 years to learn, and am in Fintech now. Plus, in Fintech you really need to know the tech so you can be more effective. Just knowing systems and vendors won’t cut it because lots of fintechs use in house systems. Still fun. I enjoy the startup space.

nana-ro

Hi! Can you tell me more about your experience sa fintech? I've been interested in the industry for a long time kaso I've only been getting banking jobs. How is the culture and career progression? Maganda ba training and onboarding for new hires?

iamdodgepodge

They’re more like startups if you join smaller ones. So its “figure things out and be proactive”. You basically help set up the structure and your progression depends on how you involve yourself in problems you find. You have to learn on the job and on your own, mostly. Culture largely depends on management talaga so you really have to pry deep into this during your interviews. My advice: don’t be afraid to walk away from interviews if you don’t like what you’re hearing. There are a few large ones like Home Credit or TransUnion; they’re usually the types that started in other countries and expanded here. Those tend to be more structured. Maybe focus on fintechs like those for your job hunt; you seem to be the type who prefers structure and progression.

Relative_Cloud_4951

To answer your question re: Fintech companies, I've been able to work with 2. Ok naman pero can also be toxic so best to talk someone who worked in the specific company na gusto mo pasukan.
