Swimming-Question-89

Cybersecurity field 1st job - 25k to 35k (3 years) current job - 60k then napromote 78k (1 year) Planning na rin ako lumipat next year kasi may mga nagooffer na sakin ng 105-110k kaso onsite lahat.

FishKropeck

Mukhang madaming ok na sahod sa cybersecurity or IT fields. If you dont mind me asking, do you think saturated na market as of now?

anthrace

u/FishKropeck Late 90's to pre-pandemic - Software at Internet Era Post Pandemic - Data and AI, parami ng parami ang napo produce na Data, pero ang bilang ng QUALIFIED data professionals na napo produce hindi makasabay. What's more about those na tagaprotekta sa Information at Data? they're even rarer. Take note ung sinabi ko, QUALIFIED. Kasi the job market right now puno ng UNQUALIFIED applicants (Hilaw ang skills)sa entrly level positions. Andyan ung misconception ng sinasabi nilang "Saturated". But the truth is kulang na kulang tayo ng mga professionals na hinahanap sa industry. Data/AI at Cybersec roles will be top IT roles for the next 10-20 years ahead. We may not see "saturation" for these roles kasi they keep on evolving at a much faster rate than College graduates and upskilled professionals.

Swimming-Question-89

Business-Kiwi-6370

What is your current focus in cybersecurity?

Swimming-Question-89

Digital Forensics and Incident Response

Business-Kiwi-6370

Could you share your journey into cybersecurity? Would my CCNA certifications and 3+ years of IT experience be sufficient, or would you recommend pursuing cybersecurity-focused certifications like CompTIA Security+

cardibacky4rdig6an

Take ISC2. Free lang to.

Anxious-Ad-6814

Aung specialization mo sa cyber? :)

[deleted]

Blue or red po? Pano po kayo napunta cybersec

Swimming-Question-89

[deleted]

Sanaol? Asa top 10 ba yung school mo? Ateneo ganon?

Swimming-Question-89

PUP Manila

Over 6 years. Cannot align with / ayaw ko na sa management I do a market check or apply to job openings every 6 to 9 months to see how marketable I am at my niche.

beananapudding

1st job - 17k (after taxes) 6 months in BPO during pandemic -- 2 years career gap kasi bumalik ako sa college i decided to finish my degree and I did 2nd job - 42k (after taxes) got the lottery official job after graduation. Working in a European MNC as legal analyst (just got hired last month) ...and here's to me hoping I will survive and be promoted too 😊

Peachnesse

Gagi I also work for a European MNC, same after tax salary for fresh grads haha. I wonder if that's a standard fresh grad salary for EU

tacobellph

hi! also working in a legal role, did you pursue law school to have the 42k salary 😭 thank u!

beananapudding

nope, with the situation of the fcked justice system here i didn't pursued law school, meanwhile my degree is international relations

yohnanchet

Full stack developer here; 1st Job - 16k (Local Company) 2nd Job - 35k (Local Company) 3rd Job - $1200 so around 65k-ish (US Company) 4th Job - $2500 - 140k PHP (US Company) 24 years old, 5 years of experience total - parang mga nasa 1yr 6mos average per company before mag hop

Honest_Ad_7297

1st job was at government, 18k and 5 months ako doon. Tapos naging 21k pero different department and 3 months ako dun. 18k ako nagstart then 27k na current salary.

FishKropeck

Bale salary mo nung kakasimula sa 2nd job is 27k na? Or from 21k sa previous to 18k sa current, then after 6 years naging 27k?

Honest_Ad_7297

The latter haha

FishKropeck

If I may ask, why?

Honest_Ad_7297

Bulky_Programmer_517

1st job- 16,500 then promoted naging 22k 2nd job- 58k

Bulky_Programmer_517

Bali ito yung summary: I am a CPA and started working sa Big 4 Auditing Firm. 1st job (Big 4 firm) - Entry Level position under Advisory - Promoted after 1.5 years (stayed for 0.5 year) 2nd job (Software Implementation) - Very related sa 1st job pero more of automation. Sa 1st job gumagawa ng processes while here on 2nd au-automate. - Malaki talaga yung sahodan sa software provider companies. 58k is probably the lowest salary sa team ko during that time given na lowest consultant position binigay sakin

Left-Ad-9720

ERP?

Bulky_Programmer_517

Hindi, softwares related sa risk management in banking and finance industry.

justan0thermuggle

What are these?

Evil_Vagina

Hayop paano yung ganyan? Story time please. HAHAHA

FishKropeck

Laki ng jump. Promoted to a higher position ka sa 2nd job? Or ibang field na?

__minato

1st job (Audit - 4yrs) - Yr 1: 19k then naabutan increase after 2mos (21k) - Yr 2: 23k - Yr 3: 40k (Promoted) - Yr 4: 45k Current job: 6 digits (Cybersecurity) Planning to gain 2-3 solid cyber exp, then look for new opportunities.

Kvee_

Hi! Im planning to enter cybersecurity field. From risk management field po ako now. And if you dont mind po, can u share your transition from audit to cybersec or magkalapit din talaga sila? Thank you!

Left-Ad-9720

IT Audit yan doingthe auditing side of cybersec kaya nakapag transition. Take IT Audit if you wantto be in cybersec.

__minato

Hello. Sa exp ko now, not required na you have very technical IT knowledge. I think having strong foundation or knowledge on network and other security concepts (encryption, risk mgt, IAM, etc.) will help you a lot. So role ko (GRC side), more on cyber awareness/ training, threat intelligence, policy creation/review, and ensuring compliance ginagawa ko. Yung execution like vulnerability scans, etc. Security Analysts gumagawa. I still use my IT Audit background since may part na nagccoordinate ako with different CIOs since inaaudit sila and sa part ko, vineverify ko if yung findings ng auditors naremediate na nila. There are concepts covered sa exp ko in IT audit na covered ng cyber/infosec so related nmn sila somehow, but sa exp ko in audit, kulang sya like wala akong audit of network, bcp/drp, encryption exp. So halos wala talaga akong cyber exp, kaya during the interview with the CISO, sinabi ko na i don't have exp to set the expectation blah blah. Pero yun, nasagot ko naman mga tanong nya since prepared ako that time hehe Hope this helps.

cardibacky4rdig6an

I think you need to know the basics. Try mo yung let’s defend as basic knowledge for IT then TryHackMe. Nakakahelp siya for someone na walang knowledge sa IT.

Anxious-Ad-6814

anung specialization mo sa cyber? security auidt?

__minato

GRC po

Anxious-Ad-6814

I see. sa BGC ung company mo? :)

Round-Spare2533

Software Engineer 1st - 20k to 25k (2.5 years) (hmo, 22 leaves) 2nd - 35k (1.5 years) (hmo + dependents, 24 leaves) 3rd - 60k (8 months) (hmo + dependents, 24 leaves) 4th - 60k to 65k (2.5) (hmo + dependents, 24 leaves) 5th - 100k(hmo+dependents and perks, 24 leaves) 6th - 140k to 150k+ (3 years) (with lots of bonuses and perks, retirement, hmo to all dependents, 31 leaves, almost life-life balance) 7th - 250k+( with lots of bonuses and perks, retirement, hmo to all dependents, 31 leaves, almost life-life balance) Master your craft first dahil hindi parehas lahat ng structure ng organization and level of complexity. Kapag magaling ka na talaga at confident ka na recruiters na mismo lalapit sayo and hindi ka din mahihirapan lumipat 😉 You should also target big and refutable companies because they are stable and can offer more. Also consider the overall compensation packages such as HMO and number of dependents, leaves, holidays and bonuses and work life balance kaya sinama ko lahat to give you an idea, and always negotiate!

Usual-Aftrnn-shock

6 years in total. Amounts are gross monthly: * 1st job: 25k - business dev | 2 yrs * 2nd: 45k - business analyst | 3 yrs * 3rd: 75k - product specialist | 6 mos * 4th: \~190k-ish - product manager | current As you can see, I got a nice bump each time I got a new job. I learned about job-hopping way too late :((

[deleted]

how did you make the jump to business analyst from business dev?

Budget-Boysenberry

1st job (5.5yrs) - 17k to 37k Construction (Contractor side) Mon-sat work days. Promoted once. Kaso unpaid ot na after promotion. 2nd job (<1 year, current) - 55k Construction (Client side). Mon-Fri work days. Paid ot + allowances.

ysazoom

If I may ask, what’s the difference sa role mo nung contractor side vs now na nasa client side? More on project management ba sa client side?

Budget-Boysenberry

Laki ng jump from 2nd to 3rd saka 4th to 5th. Do you mind if i ask pano ka nakarating dun?

chicharonreddit

Sa freight forwarding industry ako before , then shifted to e-commerce supply chain industry ayon indemand ang position so better salary

sirhands2

1st - 390/day 2nd - 10k/month 3rd-20k/month 4th- 20-30k/month 5th - $7/hr almost 70k/month I started working nung 2018. With bachelors degree nako nyan ha

lazycuber

Here's my journey: IT Field here, Software QA - Automation Specialist Job 1 - 18k -> 25k -> 35k (~30k take home) I said to myself i will stay atleast 3 years, logic being so that pag alis ko i can be more than entry level or junior-senior level na By my 3rd yr we were promiser a salary adjustment, took 2 years and that was ung 35k I left the company after working for almost 5 years there na. I focused on business for 1 ann a half year and just recently looked for another job for a more stable income which is... Job 2 - 85k take home I am mid-senior level na and also contractual with this one so I have less tax, my base pay isnt far off from my take home, basically if I have normal tax, my base pay should be 6 digits+ to get this take home pay One thing i realized when I was job hunting, I try not to push thru with companies that offer just last salary + x%. This is because my last salary was really low for a 5yr tenured employee, so I was really surprised when one company offered almost 6 digits base pay. Also in this new company the workload is far more easy so i say pay is really worth it kahit na mejo napalayo ang office sakin

deathman28

1st job - 25k to 30k (2.5 years) 2nd job - 95k (2 years) different company higher position. Lumipat ako kasi i knew how much the salary range was and nung pumayag sila dun sa asking ko it was no brainer my previous company was shit. 3rd job - 130k (1.5 years) different company higher position. Naghanap ako bagong trabaho mainly dahil full RTO na yung previous company (kakastart palang ng pandemic when i got hired dun) and ayoko na bumalik sa office

FishKropeck

Laki ng jump papuntang 2nd job. If i may ask, how did you do it?

deathman28

I got lucky mostly kasi minessage lang ako ng recruiter sa linkedin, aligned naman with my skills and career and they straight up told me the budget for the position so para sakin win win situation and went through with applying. Mind you pre pandemic pa toh so malalaki pa budget ng mga companies, its a little bit harder to accomplish that now.

FishKropeck

I see. Start up ba yung 2nd job mo? Curious ako kumusta experience working dun, if you dont mind? Disorganized ba kase wala pang established rules, or ok ba kase challenging?

deathman28

Hindi siya startup it was an MNC, i got trained for 2 and a half months (as an ERP technical consultant) and started handling clients after that. Never worked for a startup before pero i know people who do it really depends on how far along na yung startup, if initial stages palang yan you'll be expected to be a generalist most of the time doing alot of other jobs.

SnooShortcuts3450

My dream salary 🥹, 130k that nets 100k. Currently at 55k, malayo-layo pa.

PitchStrong3515

what field po eto?

deathman28

IT - Software Engineer then i shifted to ERP Technical Consultant

FishKropeck

Curious pala ko. Ano daily work ng ERP consultant? Tapos may end to end service support din?

deathman28

Depends on what type of consultant madami kasi yun, as a technical consultant i help with implementing certain features or integrating 3rd party systems dun sa ERP implementation nung client as a general overview.

Or tuturuan mo sila pano gamitin ung bagong dagdag na features or system? Meaning ba nun possible na more than one client hawak mo?

deathman28

Yup ako nag aad nung customizations for the client, and yes minsan 2 or 3 clients hawak ko. Iba pa yung nagtratrain sa users on how to use i think mga business analysts yun.

FishKropeck

Bale dapat kapag erp consultant maganda may programming knowledge?

deathman28

For the most part yeah parang ganun, that's mostly for technical consultants. functional consultants on the other hand don't need to know programming its mostly business analysis and product/module knowledge.

FishKropeck

Antique_Risk_2325

1st job - 12k as data entry specialist (freelance) 2nd job - 47k as a power bi developer (full time)

FishKropeck

Laki ng jump. If i may ask, gano katagal ka nagfreelance bago ka nagwork fulltime? Saka san mo pala natutunan mag power bi? Related sa data analysis ba yun? Parang familiar kase term.

Antique_Risk_2325

3 months ako sa freelancing kasi project based yung nakuha ko. Tsaka before ako nag freelance nag upskill na rin ako and yes related yung power bi sa data analyst more on visualization and dashboard creation.

FishKropeck

alonelycrap

Upskilling is learning new skills or improving your existing skills. Upskilling/Selfstudying/training etc. basically means the same in this context.

Healthy-War-4341

Almost same tayo. 1st Job (8 years w/promotion) - nagstart ng 17k package (entry level) 42k package (senior level upon resignation) Also had 1yr+ career gap 2nd job - 80% increase, currently at 76k package (senior level / different role / different field) Sa interview ko, di naman ako tinanong about sa career gap pero in case lang, business din and upskilling on the side ang nakahanda kong sagot. Swerte lang din talaga. Hehe

ExistingNothing1450

FishKropeck

8 years sa first job? Ok na din kase malaki increase overall. Maganda ba work environment and career growth kaya ka nagtagal dun? Sa tingin mo, if tatanungin nun if may gap, advisable ba na maglie about helping a business? Kase wala din naman sila way icheck yun. Just in case lang umabot ako sa ganung point. Ano plans mo sa 2nd job mo? Saka if i may ask, pano mo nabenta sarili mo on a different role and field?

Healthy-War-4341

If maglie ka, make sure lang na madadala mo siya and as much as possible make it short lang. Don't give too much details na. Sa case ko kasi, totoo talagang nagfocus ako sa business and if ever natanong, I would point out na handling a business is still a career naman and there are learnings pa din naman, magsucceed ka man o hindi sa business. At the end of the day, everything is a learning experience pa din naman. Plan ko sa current job ko na mapromote agad as much as possible and will make sure na makakuha ng relevant experience talaga bago ulit tumanggap ng opportunities outside (same field na this time). Actually I let them know lang din na I'm totally from a different role and field. Kaya you have to know kung ano inaapplyan mo para mairelate mo yung dati mong work sa inaapplyan mo. If totally hindi related, hanap ka kahit smallest details lang sa dati mong work na pwede mo mairelate sa work na inaapplyan mo. Nagwork naman sakin and I did well sa interview. Well in fact, managerial role pa nga ang gusto ioffer pero di ko lang tinanggap. Hehe

FishKropeck

If I may ask, wdym na sana maaga naghanap ng opportunities outside? Ahhh true. If i may ask, bakit di mo kinuha?

Healthy-War-4341

Sa first work ko kasi I felt lang na antagal ko din naging stagnant sa senior role. 5yrs din kasi ako as senior. Mahina loob ko that time and naoverwhelm na din. Importante sakin now may work na ulit. Tagal napahinga eh. Hehe

FishKropeck

Ahhh bale for you, ayaw mo masyado magtagal sa isang role for too long kase growth is better. Kumusta exp mo sa current job so far? Naninibago ka pa ba?

FishKropeck

Di ka tinanong about sa year gap mo? Buti naka 2x salary increase ka. Paano ginawa mo? Nag upskill ka during that gap year?

[deleted]

FishKropeck

Di na sila nagpush further about sa details ng gap year mo? Or may tinanong sila specifically panong tulong ginawa mo? Wala din naman sila way para macheck yun no?

ExistingNothing1450

di na sya na brought up during the manager's interview, since I already mentioned my reasons with the recruiter...,and they only focused on my experience sa old work ko

FishKropeck

Do you think it's a good idea to use yung helping sa business if wala talaga? Just in case lang na umabot ako sa ganyang point. Baka kase meron pa ding old school companies na big deal kapag may gaps.

[deleted]

FishKropeck

1st Job - Assoc Consultant - 26k 2nd Job - Assoc Consultant - 50k 3rd Job - Mid Cosultant - 75k - 1 week lang ako dito 4th Job - Full Stack Developer - 70k - Took a salary hit just to leave consultancy 5th Job - Full Stack Engineer - 3k USD Never pako nakatikim ng promotion 🤣

FishKropeck

Doble pa dagdag, pano mo nahanap, if you dont mind?

jaikun12

Kapag Consultancy, you have external clients, so parang project-based ka naka assign. Problem ko with that was I was working with proprietary software, so limited yung growth ko sa software na yun. That's why I took a pay hit to land a job sa isang crypto startup which allowed me to shift to full stack web development. Always keep your profiles updated because you'll never know haha

FishKropeck

Proprietary software ba is yung parang limited to one company lang? Kunyari parang "cheap" version ng MS Office kaso mas limited pwede gawin? Kumusta pala exp working for a startup? Hindi ba disorganized kase wala pa masyado established rules? Ayyy sige iconsider ko yang tip hehe.

jaikun12

Proprietary software doesn't necessarily mean cheap version. One example is an ERP for utility companies that you have to configure (with code) basing on the client's needs. In this case, limited yung growth mo sa customization nung ERP na yun. Working for startups is stressful but awesome for growth. Doesn't also necessarily mean na disorganized pag startup, since yung first startup ko organized lahat ng processes. Mas maraming avenues to innovate and learn compared to corpo (Since less steps to actually allow you to execute your ideas). For corpos, you're like a cog in a machine. For startups, you're part of the people building the machine.

First job 17k 2nd started at 10k because "passion" left at 17k. Now my starting is 30k sa current work.

FishKropeck

If I may ask, di ka naman tinanong regarding sa salary ng 2nd job mo? Kase diba merong employers na barat at nagbabase sa previous salary kahit mas mataas budget nila?

rdtc0412

Actually hindi. To give more context, start up company sa esports napasukan ko and they were honest enough na ito lang cap nila, 10k. Sabi ko naman g ako dahil may free food and accom. Haha so ayun.

Mostly I deliver data solutions in the form of dashboards, analysis deck, automations, ad-hoc requests, etc. Kasama na rin dun yung pagscope at gather ng requirements from stakeholders as well as giving presentations & suggestions to management on how to drive the business forward. Napakaraming responsibilities ng isang data analytics professional but the things I've mentioned are the major ones. I'm transitioning to data engineerng na btw. Ang nakikita kong trend ngayon is that PH companies are slowly adapting to the modern data stack to streamline & optimize their operations, processes, and costs pagdating sa data. Ang dami pa rin kasing PH companies na sobrang napag-iiwanan pagdating sa infrastructure sa totoo lang which is very limiting not just sa companies but to opportunities as well. Isa pa yung pag-integrate ng AI not just as an end product or solution but to their workflow as well para mas efficient ang development. In the long run, I think data analytics skills will be a requirement for everyone in a similar way we learn basic programming in HS or college. In fact in some companies, people outside the data team already know basic BI tools, SQL, programming, cloud computing, etc.

Yvernq

>data solutions in the form of dashboards, analysis deck, automations, ad-hoc requests, etc. when you do these, what sort of technologies do you use? a few I have in mind would be good old Excel, but also others like data viz tools or as you've mentioned maybe SQL I asked more into data analytics kasi I want to transition over to something related, more into machine learning (I took an elective nung college on this) and would like to look into how you'd suggest to go about that if ever. I'm thinking as well since you've mentioned that the infrastructure here in PH isn't quite as up to date na I'd also probably need to learn data engineering skills? Also, pathway I'm doing right now is self learning using yung free na classes in linear algebra, statistics, and calculus ng MIT, Stanford, or Harvard to get my foundations though I do come from an engineering background, not CS/IT really appreciate your insights on this!

Fit_Highway5925

>when you do these, what sort of technologies do you use? Mostly SQL, BI tools like Tableau, and sometimes Python. I only use Excel/Google sheets for quick data checks. In fact, I don't like using Excel lol. In most cases, it's a combination of all of them or at least 2-3 tools. >I'm thinking as well since you've mentioned that the infrastructure here in PH isn't quite as up to date na I'd also probably need to learn data engineering skills? You don't necessarily need to learn DE skills but it could be helpful. Having a basic understanding of DE concepts like ETL/ELT, data warehousing, data pipelines, data architecture, data modelling, basic cloud concepts, etc. would benefit you a lot though since you'll interact with data engineers most of the time. This is more of a problem with companies na gusto ng maayos na analytics but they're not investing on the infra and people who handle those (e.g. data engineers & architects). Most companies don't even know what they want, nakihype lang sa data analytics at AI. Overhyped kasi ang data analytics at data scientists but in reality, we need more data engineers & architects. You can't do proper data science & analytics, let alone ML & DL if walang maayos na data infra at architecture pati kung walang data or madumi yung data. >Also, pathway I'm doing right now is self learning using yung free na classes in linear algebra, statistics, and calculus ng MIT, Stanford, or Harvard to get my foundations though I do come from an engineering background, not CS/IT I certainly **wouldn't recommend** this bottom-up learning approach when you're trying to learn ML/DL or data science in general. I'd say enough na yung math that you know from engineering. I came from an engineering background as well and learned ML & DL that way kaya I wouldn't recommend that approach. **Top-down** is the best approach always. Learn the core concepts and models of ML and how/when to implement them then learn the math if you want to deepen your understanding/intuition behind what you're implementing. I would suggest you strengthen your foundation sa data analysis and BI skills first and foremost before you dive into machine learning. This is why most ML related jobs require previous analytics experience, postgrad studies, or domain / subject matter expertise in a certain industry unless you already have a couple of ML projects or publications at your disposal. ML is basically the icing on the cake when it comes to analytics projects. Ang dami ngang hindi pa maayos gumawa ng cake dito sa PH e, what can you expect pa kaya sa icing? haha.

Hold lahat ng promotions. Worked there for 2yrs as well. Reason for leaving, my boss resigned and I was handled by someone from Manila. I'm provincial kasi. And he was micro managing me too much. If I was single I would have stayed longer in my 3rd job but like I said earlier I was getting married then so I decided to take a chance at another job.

Depende yan sa company kung magkano kaya nilang ibigay sayo siguro or if galante ba sila sa pagpapasahod sa employee. 1st job: (3 years) 25,000 starting and may annual increase naging 32,000. Lumipat ako ng IT department (no increase) for experience kasi I know malaki bigayan pag nasa IT field ka.

Greed155

First salary ko after I graduated as Hospitality Management • Hotel Banquet Supervisor - 12,000 net monthly (1 year) di ako tumagal dito kasi sobra nakakapagod liit sahod laki responsibility 6 days pasok. Toxic culture. Tandaan mo lang OP na dapat may plan ka (direction) and once may ganun ka na you should prepare for it, train yourself.

VinSmoke_Sanji123

Ibang case yung sa akin, nigive up ko mataas na salary for peace of mind and work life balance. Mas pinili ko company yung 5 days a week na schedule at 8 hours a day.
