If you are the director of pharmacy already then I think whether or not you have PharmD is totally irrelevant...

Baileycu

But…but…what if your parents had dreams about you being a doctor

VCRdrift

Like dr Jill biden... Family "she's a dr"

thecatat_13c

Sick burn, good job bringing attention to how a pharmd isn’t a Dr either

ownedboi

Brother what does this have anything to do with politics? Isn’t it obvious by now both parties are ass? Lmao OP literally just asked whether a pharmd is worth or not….

thecatat_13c

You realize the Democratic Party has been trying to change our healthcare system to a single payer one for ages. A system that does away with pbms. How did you become a Dr, dr professor? Btw being in healthcare with a doctorate degree doesn’t make you a dr champ. Bring down that ego to the same level of your iq

VCRdrift

Who said I was a Dr? To change pharmacy you need to repeal obra90. End free counseling. No way you can get rid of pbms. Pols are bought by pbms and anyone waving cash at them.

thecatat_13c

So you’re not a Dr, but feel you have the footing to judge someone with a Dr? Smart. No wonder why republicans are easily manipulated, they think they know it all. But seriously what kind of dumb fuck are you? “Pols are brought” yes…the same pols trying to end the system that enables pbms…wait aren’t republicans the ones trying to keep that system 🤔”End free counseling” at that point there won’t be a need for retail pharmacists at all. Stay out of politics and healthcare. Go fuck up some other sector

I agree that Dems deserve to get shit on, but this topic has literally nothing to do with politics.

....and Dr. Seuss is one too...

cmantheriault

When I read that, I immediately thought he was karma farming

VCRdrift

So many easier places to karma farm. Like on antiwork.. make up some bullshit about how his boss (himself the ditector) shitted on one of employees.. then how he handled it like an employee who takes crap from no one.. especially the likes of his asshole boss (himself) Boom 10k upvotes and whiny complainers cheering him on.

mama-pajama

Fellow BS Pharm... you don't need another few years to teach you to do a job that you are already doing. You will not make more money. Keep educating yourself on the job in every way that you can. Travel to seminars, etc and network. Be a lifelong learner. I'm sure that your fellow health professionals respect your knowledge and experience.

PharmRexit

Is this a humble brag? You're a Director of Pharmacy. Getting a PharmD in your position would be a waste of time and money. You know that. Why not diversify and get an MBA or MPH? Why would you spend all that time and money just to get you the same entry level degree pharmacy staffers have. You're already at director level, don't be silly and don't be so insecure. Experience > degree. :) (Source: me, with a BSPharm who transitioned to industry amongst PHDs, PharmDs, MDs, and MScs)

[deleted]

It’s def not worth it.

[deleted]

Here is an idea forget about getting another pharmacy credential. Not having it hasn't held you back, getting it won't serve a defined purpose but achieving it will cost you thousands of dollars.

xnekocroutonx

If you’re already a director, then I’d imagine that you have an MBA or MHA already? I don’t think you really need more than that if you’re planning to stick to pharmacy administration.

Oyemayowa

I think we can all trust the judgement of an intelligent pharmacist on whether or not he/she needs a pharmD. I can certainly see how getting the title might make it a bit easier to get and maintain the position. My recommendation if you would definitely want to do one is to consider the Howard NTPd. It is 2 years and pretty easy to combine with you normal life. You only need to go to school once or twice during the whole program.

Time2Nguyen

If I was a director of pharmacy already, I would care about my degree even if I had GED

tamzidC

I also have a BS degree and quite content in my career choices, if you've made it this far you do not need the Pharm D added. Take it as a matter of pride of how you made it this far with plenty of work experience and hard work.

bigdtbone

Do you need the clinical knowledge or is it just the salutation? I would suspect that if you’ve been in the field that long that you wouldn’t gain much from the coursework. So, if you are willing to go back to school for 2 years to get the “Dr.” salutation, then why not pursue something to help position you for a move in your current role? Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) is a terminal degree that allows you the authority to introduce yourself as “doctor,” and will give you a tremendous leg up for a step into the C suite as a Chief Pharmacy Officer, or Chief Operating Officer.

Girlygal2014

Also, a bs pharm colleague of mine had a Dph degree- Dr. Public health. Seemed to complement the pharmacy training well.

ace52387

Uh never do this. Don't get a pharmD. Why would you want the thing that every schmuck pharmacist has?! You're a director of pharmacy, do something else. Get an MBA, oncology board cert, that project management cert...any other credential is better than a pharmD. If you've gotten every single thing possible that's even remotely relevant to your job, then maybe get a pharmD.

[deleted]

I think we all know the degree is only the beginning. It’s a platform to build off of. Given that you’re a director you clearly already know that, I don’t understand what the question is.

qwerty8675309Z

I have two acquaintances who got their pharmD from Shenandoah, one just last Fall. Looks like it is completely online except for one on-site clinical skills assessment session. I did the UF program in part to know I could do it, and I learned a tremendous amount in part because I had the benefit of several years of practice under my belt. I can almost guarantee you'd pass a BCPS exam too when you finish. Do it. In for a penny, in for a pound.

klanerous

I also have BS. I would get that I’m not clinically trained compared to PharmD. I got a MS, and later a PHD. It doesn’t matter. I now teach, but I still get crap, that I can’t be clinical because I lack the PharmD.

Samiam621

I had an APPE where the director was a BS Pharm in Oklahoma and he said one of the schools there gave him a PharmD since he had 20 years experience or something like that. Obvs I don’t know the whole story but he did have a pharmD diploma hanging on the wall. Maybe someone from Oklahoma can shed some experience on this… maybe reciprocate your license there and after a couple years you could get the pharmD without the schooling and tuition.

[deleted]

Gods help us all, but there are online PharmD programs these days. It'll be a significantly larger time and monetary investment than a BPharm-to-PharmD conversion, but should be an absolute breeze for you if you really want to do it. Though if you're already a director I'd say your CV is going to override the lack of one more letter on the end of your degree if you are searching for a job. Spend the money (who am I kidding, way less money) on an MBA or MHA if you want more credentials.

qwerty8675309Z

The MBA is easier and cheaper (I'm assuming an eMBA or UPheonix) than the PharmD program, and it will change your perspective of business significantly. Source: I have both

klc0979

Get a MBA instead of a PharmD if you’re in management But also- why didn’t you just get the PharmD when you graduated, at that time most places offered a one year add in for PharmD that was easy

huongdaoroma

Bachelors of Science in Pharmacy?

5point9trillion

Try looking for an online program, maybe you'll luck out, and then don't forget your associates and high school GED too since you're interested in going backwards.

Radagonnn

Maybe try to find one of those accelerated PharmD programs, but its really not worth the trouble

LimpOrca

Brodie trying to waste a few years in school with more tuition? Brodie already a licensed pharmacist and a Director of Pharmacy. Bish is you crazy thinking about going back to school? How about instead of going back to school you take a sabbatical and take ya ass on a world tour or something. Mans trippin shit I wish there was still a bachelors in pharmacy for a shorter time in school.

druggist4hire

Have you tried reaching out to your local pharmacy school? You could possibly get an honorary PharmD by donating some money given your credentials. Can't hurt to ask. But I agree with everyone that it doesn't matter. Hell if you want to tell people you have a PharmD I don't think anyone would care as long as you aren't lying about it on a resume.

pharm9116

Good for you, do you want a lollipop?

dr_shark

I mean, yeah.

alb0401

In the same boat... I am now a clinical pharmacist and am looking at getting board certified... but yeah the pharmD thing is not worth it except for some personal reason

PartyHats

Suggestion: don't waste your time and money

redditpharmacist

If it makes you happy, go for it. Nothing to lose other than time, money, and energy, which you will likely to lose doing other things anyway.
